Unacceptable

I purchased a song on the iTunes store, and I wanted to use it as my Ringtone on my iPhone. It didn't show up as a playable ringtone, so I used the "Create Ringtone" utility to make one. I then found out that I would have to buy this ringtone that I had created. That's right, I had to buy something I already owned. I almost stopped at that little injustice, but I swallowed my pride and did it. I then tried to put it on my phone, but to do so I would have had to sync, and all of my podcasts were on another computer. So, I emailed the file to myself and put it on that computer. Imagine my surprise when I was then informed that the ringtone was "not authorized for this computer".
In other words, I bought a piece of music, twice, and I can't even use it. I'd have to switch the computer that I sync my phone with, by re-downloading all of my podcasts on to it, and then never syncing it with any other computer, because that's where my ringtone is stored. You can forget that.
Enjoy my $2. I will not be buying any more music, TV shows, or music on the iTunes store. Furthermore, just as I praise the technical support I've received in the Mac store to many, I will be sharing how dissatisfied I am with the iTunes store. This is very unlike the treatment I have come to expect from Apple, and it displeases me greatly.
So what has your overprotective policy gotten you? It hasn't prevented any piracy, as I never had any intention of pirating what I had bought. It has prevented me from shopping with you again. I'll be heading over to Amazon, to see if they will sell me a product, one time, that I can actually use.

First, you're not talking to the iTunes Store here. We're all, with the exception of the Discussions Hosts (who have no influence on Apple policy) just your fellow users.
I had to buy something I already owned.
No, you didn't already "own" it as such. When you first purchase a track (whether via a download store, on CD, or by any other method), you buy the right to play it under certain circumstances which do not include using the track as a ringtone. The requirement for paying a second time for a ringtone is by demand of the content owners, not Apple. Those content owners consider a ringtone to be a separate product from a normal track usage and so demand a second payment for those additional rights. This is completely common across the industry and has been discussed many, many times, here as well as on a plethora of websites. Even after paying the double fee to the iTunes Store, ringtones are still less expensive than they are from almost all cell carriers. You might find this MacWorld article to be useful reading:
http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/09/20/ringtones/index.php?lsrc=mwrss
As to the authorization issue, did you try just authorizing the track and ringtone on the new computer?
Beyond that, suit yourself. If you want help getting the ringtone authorized, post back (and avoid the rants) and folks here can probably provide additional advice. Otherwise, I hope you're happy with whatever service you decide to use.

  • Verizon Crew Causes Outage But No One Can Arrive to Fix for 2 more Days! UNACCEPTABLE

I have tried every other method of contacting Verizon and keep getting nothing but excuses. This morning a crew from Verizon knocked on our door to access our backyard in order to finally take down an old unused pole that has been there for months. We of course let them back there although we hadn't called yet to complain about someone taking down the pole bc we are not the type to complain. For months Phone, Internet and TV were all working fine, no issues, and were fine this morning as well... that is until the crew working on the pole finished what they were doing, and right when they were finishing up their work everything went down, Phone, Internet and TV. We called and did a live chat complaint immediately bc we figured since Verizon had literally just caused the problem they could come fix it. WRONG, they tell us 2 days before a tech can come to FIX VERIZON'S OWN MISTAKE!!!! So a Verizon crew has the time to come ruin our service but after being on hold and talking to someone on live chat we are told they are too busy to get back.
I have a 3 year old, a 1 month old and my Husband is an attorney that often needs to work from home at night and file time sensitive documents with the Courts and this is unacceptable. Tonight he had to go to a family members house to file documents due by midnight tonight and that is where I am able to send this message from now. We would not complain if it was weather related or something out of Verizon's control bc things happen...but this was literally caused by a Verizon work crew in a Verizon truck and now the only answer we get is wait 2 days. UNACCEPTABLE. Due to this action we went from customers who never complain to posting on this just to get some relief and an acceptable answer.

  • I am trying to create a print ready PDF from a word file with unacceptable results.

I am trying to create a print ready PDF from a word file with unacceptable results.
The word file has a trim size of 6” x 9”. It has been set to mirror margins with the inner, top and bottom margins set to 0.75”, the outer margin is set to 0.5” and the gutter to 0.14”.
It doesn’t matter if I create the PDF from inside Word, or open Acrobat Pro 11.0.9 and click Create From File, while the resulting document size is correct and the odd numbered pages reflect the correct margins, the even numbered pages do not. This results in some text near the outer margin, as well as the page numbers being omitted.
Does anyone know how to correct this?
I just noticed that some of the odd numbered pages' text is also cropped. Apparently Acrobat is refusing to set side margins to smaller than 1" (@ 3cm).

I'm away from my printer, so I'll try it later. Even so, the proposed test is irrelevant. I operate a small publishing house and am trying to upload certain novels to Ingram, the largest book distributor in the world. The specifications I've set are the specifications they've asked for. Since they've said that the results I'm obtaining are unacceptable, and since they demand submission in PDF form, this renders Acrobat Pro for Mac completely unacceptable for anyone in the publication industry. As far as I can tell, Adobe has a serious bug here that it needs to fix—and at once.

  • I imported a COMPLETED book project into Aperture 3, only to discover that  the resolution of all the photos has been reduced to totally unacceptable levels

I imported a COMPLETED book project into Aperture 3, only to discover that  the resolution of all the photos has been reduced to totally unacceptable levels.  Any easy solution?
    Steps:
    1. I finished an Aperture 2 (Two) book project and tried to submit it to Apple for printing. At that point I learned (belatedly, obviously) that Apple no longer accepts books from Aperture 2. I don't know how I would have known to even ask if Aperture 2 had been sunsetted as far as book projects go.
    2. So I tried to download Aperture 3 ($79.99), only to be told that I couldn't download Aperture 3.5.1 because I was still running OSX 10.8.x. So I read current reviews for OSX 10.9.x, and ...
    3. Downloaded and installed the current operating system (about a 3-hours process for me).  OSX 10.9.2, here we are!
    4. Then I returned to the Apple Store, found, and purchased Aperture 3.  [For safety's sake, it would sure be nice to have a .dmg file I could copy and file away.  I lost a perfectly legal and good copy of Adobe's Photoshop Elements 3 years ago because I wasn't smart enough to make a safety copy, and when my iMac crashed (fried electronic components), I was left with a copy of the software that wouldn't run, and couldn't be verified as legit.]
    5. When Aperture 3 finished installing, I found and imported my COMPLETED Aperture 2 book project, which import seemed to proceed nominally -- the right number of pages, the right content on those pages, that sort of thing -- until I started looking more carefully at the pictures themselves.  All of them, about 300 of them, have been imported into an Aperture 3 book project in such a reduced resolution that they are fuzzy at the size the book will be printed.  Screen-capture of just one example (at 100% viewer setting):
I don't know what to do at this point to correct the problem, short of going through the entire book project, copy the custom captions (since those go away when you "delete" photo content), delete the photo, re-insert the photo, and paste back the custom caption.  Lather, rinse, repeat - ~300 times!  An estimated 2-3 hours of additional work.
Or does anyone in this community know either (1) that I did something wrong in the Aperture 2-to-Aperture 3 import (I don't recall being offered any options or choices in the process); or (2) that there is a wholesale one-step solution to my problem?
BTW, I tried to edit my "Product" info, but OSX 10.9.x is not in the pick list.  I am running OSX 10.9.2
    <Re-Titled By Host>

Frank, thanks for your note.  I wrote "COMPLETED" because I had gone to a lot of effort to get the content of the book precisely as I wanted it. I would fully expect to see my level of effort and care matched by functional competence in Aperture 3 to render the book the way I created it.  Too much to ask?
And yes, I upgraded the Aperture 2 Library first.  [Not ALL my tens of 000s of pix, because I use Lightroom selectively for photo editing. But Yes to the Aperture 2 Library.]  That step took a number of minutes, but seemed to work fine (no error messages of any kind).
Then I opened the existing book project in Aperture 3, which followed some "magic-box" process that took a minute or so.  As I said, when that step was done, by all appearances the book was ready to submit for printing - until I examined the photos a little more closely.  You did see the blurry example I included, didn't you? That is what each and every photo looks like.
Text-box content appears to have been rendered pertectly, for the record (including captions).
So, ... is this result something you have heard of before?  Do you know of a one-step solution?  Or am I looking at an extended picture-by-picture fix?

I downloaded the newest version of firefox today 8/16/11 and now I cannot use Evernote (nor does clipmarks work from before) this is unacceptable. How do I return to the earlier version of firefox? If there is no way to do this, then I will have to use internet explorer so I hope you can help me with this. Thank You, Carol Roberts

Until Evernote updates their add-on to mark it compatible with Firefox 6, you can use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/ Add-on Compatibility Reporter] to try re-enabling it yourself.
You can also downgrade to a previous version of Firefox from [https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/ this archive], but please be warned that some old versions of Firefox have known security bugs that are fixed in later versions. • Since I put Mountain Lion on my MacAir my PowerPoint and Keynote Presentations freeze up when I am presenting.  This is so unacceptable when I have 75 - 500 people I am presenting in front of.   I can no longer use my presenter tool either.  Is there help

Since I put Mountain Lion on my MacAir, my Power Point presentations freeze up when hooked to an LCD projector.  I can no longer use my presenter clicker tool that moves my slides as I walk among my audiences.  This is totally unacceptable in the kind of work that I do.  The Genius Bar person told me to try Keynote but that is even worse.  I wanted to go back to Snow Leopard but because I have backed up my information on an external hard drive she said I cannot go back to Snow Leopard.  Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?  I have several presentations coming up in the next six weeks.

You need to move to Windows 7, because Apple is now releasing a new OS X version annually and it's playing havoc with people's hardware and software.
Windows 7 will get support until 2020, that's 8 years of software stability, however you do need to make System Restore disks, boot disk and another on a hard drive to self restore (like TimeMachine is for OS X)
Apple has no plans to change their currrent behavior as all they care about is selling new hardware with a shiny new OS X verison on it.
If you wait to move, what will happen is you'll lose that full 8 years and will have to swtich to a newer Windows sooner
Windows 7 machines are still widely avaialble, despite Windows 8 (a failure) being pushed currently.
Running three OS X operating systems on one machine is quite a chore reserved for only seasoned computer geeks, then it's only going to last X months as the next OS X version will be released, then the next a year after that.
Another method would be to get a virtual machine software (virtualbox is free) and install Windows 7 into that to ease your transitition if you cant' spring for a Windows 7 machine, preferablly a tower that will last a long time.
Here is a method to run Snow Leopard in Parallels, however it's a unapproced hack and not for the comptuer newbie.
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
We have no control over Apple's OS X release cycle, nor the third party developers who make their own decisions what to support.
Our only choice as users to stop using both products and seek software/hardware stability.

I know I am responding to my own thread, but I an SOOOO disgusted with Apple right now.
The new iOS 7 was the lead story on CNN today... and it wasn't positive. Easy to see why, it's a graphics disaster. It is ugly, difficult to read, doesn't interface aesthetically with the iPhone 4S, and gives everyone in America vertigo. Either fix the appearance, or find some way to allow us to roll back to our previous iOS. Do so quickly, or this life-long Apple customer [circa 1978] will be moving on. If this represents shades of what is coming with OS Maverick, I am petrified. Further, I am a GM of a chain of newspapers and websites in the Austin, Texas area. I will be ripping out a scathing editorial. The notion that we can't roll back from something millions of us hate is despicable. I'm giving you one week. Be sure I am not alone.

  • External LCD Monitor Connection - Unacceptable Quality

    Hello,
I have recently purchased a Mac, hoping that I would be able to connect to my external LCD monitor (19" Samsung SyncMaster 920NW - only VGA connection).
I have easily hooked up my monitor to my Mac. However, what I see is of unacceptable quality. When compared to Macbook display, the display on the external monitor is darker and the text looks horrible. I have played with few settings but nothing good.
I have read other threads where people complain about similar things. But, I thought Samsung's monitors would be of higher quality. Mine is a relatively cheap LCD but not this cheap
I am just willing to confirm that I am not missing anything. I simply can't believe that the display quality could be this bad. In the worst case, I will have to buy a new LCD.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hello stedman1,
Thank you for your quick reply.
Unfortunately, it is not running in the Mirror mode. The display with the mirror mode was even worse! But after reading the posts in the forum, I have learned how to change it to the extended display. It is better than the mirror mode, but still not good enough.
Maybe I am making a mistake comparing the external monitor with the MacBook's monitor?? There is a huge gap between the two. It is a lot darker, and the text quality is way worse.
Someone with a similar monitor having solved this issues?
    Thanks,
    Guven.

  • Copying data to Xserve unacceptably slow!!

Not really sure what went bad along the way, but I've recently noticed that with one of the arrays in my Xserve RAID (configured RAID 5 + Hotspare) copying data to the array took an unacceptably long amount of time...long enough where I knew something was wrong...When I say long, I mean that it would trickle through copying about 1GB of data in around 30 minutes or so...the fact that I even let it try for this long was simply a test to make sure that my computer hadn't frozen or something...
Based on the fact that the RAID Admin Utility wasn't reporting any errors with any of the drives (nor any other errors at all), I tried to troubleshoot the issue myself by swapping virtually every component of the Xserve RAID unit from one array to the other - meaning the Backup Batteries, the Controllers, the blowers, and the fiber cables that I previously had hooked up to array 1 now got switched to array 2, and vice versa...
Preforming the above test resulted in fixing the data copying problem I was having with the faulty array, but now, I am having the same problem with the other array, which was previously working perfectly...
Can anyone help me figure out what component is most likely culprit of this problem? I assume that it must be a dead or near-dead Controller, though I would like some reassurance that this is highly likely to be the case before I go out and buy a replacement...Any suggestions, comments, or suggested means of further troubleshooting would be sincerly appreciated. Thanks!

How full is are the volumes in question?
From your description I'm guessing they're about 95% full.
The XServe RAID, like any drive, will degrade in performance as used space increases. It starts at around 80% full and once it gets above 90% it's usually noticeable - the system is spending a lot of time waiting for some spare space to spin under the drive head.
This doesn't indicate a failure in any part of the system, other than maybe your initial sizing of the drive, or maybe your archiving process

    Hello, Gregory...
    Hi Guillermo,

    - Programatically: didnt do anything, gives the error: E SE 214 Error during update.
I only want to revoke the acceptance, I dont want to delete the Entry Sheet.
Could you tell me how to that?
    Regards.

  • Unacceptable Performance - Unacceptable Point Patch Policy

There are known issues with Flash CS3. Notable of these are
the publish crashes on all platforms. I find it completely
unacceptable that Macromedia > Adobe's perspective on patches is
typically 'a paid upgrade will patch the program'.
This is completely unusual in the industry and the fact that
you now hold the monopoly on good (great tools, but not perfect
tools) is no excuse for not fixing issues with your software. I
find it pretty deplorable that you will fix known issues by
pitching an upgrade. 'Pay to upgrade or live with the issues' is no
    way to be.
Flash crashes on me no less than 10 times a day. Most of
these crashes occur at publish time. I save my work often, but even
a 15 minute loss is aggrevating. When Flash locks or crashes,
windows can lock things like the context menu from use - this
requires a restart. So a Flash crash ends up doing these things:
    1. Interruption of flow
    2. Loss of work
    3. Loss of time
This can equate to a momentum loss, time loss, and work loss
of up to an hour. Multiply this by 4 to 10 times a day and you can
only imagine how steamed a developer can get.
I use Vista, but I understand that this issue also occurs on
Mac. I use video editing software, word processing software,
spreadsheets, and other authoring software that doesn't crash. Why
am I expected to live with this until Adobe releases a full point
    release?
Can I get an amen from any other developers out there? I'd
love Adobe to be as responsive to developers (IDE users, I've seen
a lot of catering to the more hardcore programmer types that tend
NOT to use the IDE anyway). as they are to the public with Flash
    player updates.

You realize, of course, that the "you" referred to in your
post is not Adobe. This is a user-to-user forum. If you're unhappy
with Adobe policy, write to them directly. The likelihood of anyone
from Adobe with any influence reading this forum or this post is
    next to null.
That said, as a Flash user since 2000, I'm flabbergasted at
the attitude that Flash is somehow "perfect" upon release and no
bugs exist. I was hoping this policy would change when Adobe bought
Macromedia, since Adobe tends to release a few patches for each of
its major apps as bugs are uncovered.
But alas, no hope. I once cornered one of the leaders of the
Flash development team at an official Macromedia event a couple
years ago and brought this up. He replied that they "need to focus
all their resources on developing the next release." I had to
withhold myself from being really rude in response.

  • Unacceptable services from Bestbuy

I am writing to let you know about bad services I received from the Bestbuy store and on the phone likewise.
This started when I purchased a refrigerator on Apr 19th 2015.
Product: Open Box - 26 CU. FT. FRENCH DOOR REFRIGERATOR
    SKU:  1618091Store: Bestbuy, Milpitas CA
The product was listed as "Excellent" item, which according to bestbuy is:
Excellent — Products in excellent condition look brand new in appearance — with no physical flaws, scratches or scuffs — and include all original parts* and accessories. The product will be in its original packaging or a suitable replacement box.
When I received the product, it was missing a part, it had dents on the sides, came without a box, and on top of all, was completely covered in dust from top, had marks of usage inside and on the water dispenser.
This was not the product I had seen in store before finalizing the purchase.
I refused the delivery, and went to the store to let them know that I had received a product in unacceptable condition. The store associate said, "Open box items are sold as it is without any cleaning and / or with missing parts", without any apology. I said, I am aware of your policy, but your policy for excellent item is the one I am debating on. The lady wasn't helping at all, so I left the store to come back later for refund.
Even after this bad experience, I thought of giving best buy another chance, and ordered the same refrigerator in new.
    Date: Apr 27th, 2015
Purchased Online (Due to bad store experience)
I had the refrigerator delivered on Apr 29th 2015. During the delivery from the so called "professtional delivery guys", they literally ripped off a portion of the wall inside the house. Those guys said, it usually happens.
I said, this is not at all acceptable, and immediately called up bestbuy to report a claim.
The delivery guy was also included in the call to confirm the damage.
The claim was filed on 29th April 2015.
I assumed the Bestbuy would call me up for the followup on this, but no call came. I called up multiple times to check on the claim and instead I was routed from Bestbuy to GnD claims to some delivery company.
Today is 18th May 2015 (Approx 20 days since the claim has been filed, and no updates have been provided till now)
Again, not at all expected service from the company who says, "Customer First".
I purchased the item from Bestbuy, and Bestbuy alone should be answerable to the customer problems and not any third company, with whom I have to follow for updates.
If this is the behavior from the Bestbuy towards its customer, then tell me one good reason why I shouldn't return the product and get it from some other competitor which might give me a better service than bestbuy.

    Hey anjulg,
If the first refrigerator was listed as in excellent condition then that what it should have been when we attempted to deliver the unit. I am honestly sorry this was not the case, and with how long it is taking us to address the claimed damage to your home.
I do see that Ash from our Executive Resolutions Team is currently looking into your claim of damages to your home, and you should hear from them soon.
    Thanks for posting,

  • New Air - Unacceptable Wi-Fi Airport Thruput Performance

    OK,
I'm searching for info - Im trying anything I can think of..... Download/x-fer thruput is absolutely unacceptable on this. Keep in mind that this notebook is made for portability.
I have a very powerful, high performing home network - dual band, dual channel Linksys - Im even standing in the same room as the router and my x-fer speeds via internet are slower than edge speeds on my iPhone Vol 1. I get an average download xfer rate in the low double digit range whether the file is a meg or multi-meg. I dont get this.??
I have great speeds on every other laptop I own. I can take my powerbook w/ Airport in the yard and get good speeds. I can stream HD to my MediaCenter two floors down - but the MB Air?
But here's where Im confused -
alt/Airport click shows only a transmit rate of 50-60 on average. Dropping in the teens often enuff. This changes only slightly when I switch between the 5gHz band and the 2ghz band. So signal is low on the MB Air.
BUT, when I run DSL speed Test, I can get a report of acceptable rates (between 700 kb/sec and higher). BUT when I then try and do some real life downloading, like a simple mp3 or pdf - I get the crawl. The same file being d/l on my PowerBook will blaze.
    What could be wrong?
I seriously may return the MB Air if this is something I have to live with. I want this notebook for the portability, but if I can get acceptable WiFi connect speeds, then its useless. I already have had to make the compromise of knowing I can't easily get Broadband wireless on this thing without a frankenstein looking usb device (which also would require me to eat the cost of a $200 upgrade from my new PMCIAwifi card)
    Am I missing something obvious?
    I run DL Speed Test

The airport is a problem with the Air that has been discussed for a while. The only solution I found is to have my router only connect N devices. The wifi has been pretty steady since then, but I had a add a second router as I have b/g devices too.
Bluetooth is also a problem with very slow PAN connections to bluetooth phone modems. I understand the headsets also have a lot of static but I haven't tried it.
    Regards-Michael G.

  • Colors & Photo quality unacceptably degenerates once published at .mac

Deciding if I'll move my website (published using the Earthlink Trellix site builder) over to .Mac using iWeb then cancel my Earthlink account and renew my about to expire .mac account.
I built one webpage using iWeb and published it to .mac - I used the same photos at each site. Viewing my original site at it's Earthlink domain, alongside the iWeb site at the .mac domain, the quality difference is surprising.
The iWeb/.mac site is totally unacceptable. The iWeb page displays the photos as totally washed out, no depth poor luminance. The colors are flat and muddy. This change happens in the publish process, once the photos are online.
What are the unwritten, unpublished parameters involved in getting iWeb or .mac to display images accurately?

Forgive me for sounding stupid, how do I verify this
    frame, check inside iweb?
There are no stupid questions, right? Hehe. To check for any image effects, just look in iWeb. Open up the Inspector and click over to the Graphics tab... That's where those options for frames and shadows and reflections are set. Keep an eye on the checkboxes as you click on each image on your page. If it has any of the effects applied, you will see the checkbox appear "checked"...and then you can uncheck them.
AND I'm guessing it this will only give me partial
    relief from the problem?
Well if you disable the effects, that will be good. To completely do away with the PNG conversion, you also need to make sure you image is being used at it's original size. To do this, again in the Inspector click over to the Metrics tab. Click on the "Use original size" button.
If you are processing all of your images yourself,
prior to loading them into iWeb, then well, iWeb
    seems rather pointless. Errrgh.
It is an unfortunate situation, but I've been doing it long enough that I appreciate the control, I guess. The way I like to see it is that iWeb isn't a graphics program...it's a web publishing program. And it does it's best to make things look the way they are supposed to look. But some of its behavior is counterproductive. Thankfully the helpful people here have figured out ways to work around the deficiencies. I use a graphics program called "Downsize" (http://www.stuntsoftware.com/Downsize/) to process my images. It lets you set size, jpg compression and also frames and drop shadows and corners and watermarks.
ALSO - Is there a way to tell what images have been
converted to png besides deducing 'oh that looks like
    ca-ca.'
When you pull up your pages in a web browser, just control-click on your images and select "Open image in new window or tab". This should display your image in it's own space and put the URL for the image in the address bar. Look at this URL...the last part is the image filename. You should see either .png or .jpg
