Variable color in SVG export

Hello,
we are in the process of designing a website for one of our customer, with the goal of making them self-sufficient in feeding the site with new products.
One of the feature requires producing custom SVG files which are then rendered to PNG (when the browser doesn't support it correctly, that is most of them including Firefox which doesn't like gradients yet), and the possibility of updating several of the item colors on the fly.
This requires identifying in the source file which colors must be flagged as say, "variablecolor1", "variablecolor2" and so on, with XML entities or some other means.
Think about online visualization of t-shirt color changes.
It's not actually scripting-specific, but nor windows or mac, and maybe there is a scripting solution to it.
Since our customer is using Illustrator to generate their catalog, we wanted to integrate as much as possible with their workflow. AI seems to generate usable SVG files, however, we would like to avoid having to write an error-prone post-processing engine (likely in php) the designer will have to run to assertain which color entries in the files are the one we want to modify. Note possibly another part of the drawing with the same color might not be part of what to change...
A possible option would be creating the SVG with a predefined color, like #0000fe for variablecolor1 or whichever, but they want to have it look with the chosen default colors when not yet changed. Having them produce two versions (one with correct colors and one with hardcoded values for us) seems error prone.
The other option, as said is to run the SVG code through some magic identifying the color values, list them and allow checking which are to change. However this is also possibly error prone.
With a co-worker we checked AI for quite some hours without much luck trying to find something that would allow us to directly flag those colors. The online manual had topics with interesting names but the descriptions weren't really helpful, so we had to test on his machine.
We found about variables in AI, but sadly it seems this doesn't concern colors at all. Text, data and some other things but no color.
Some other palette-swapping functions didn't seem to pass anything when exporting to SVG.
Also, we checked the various option in the SVG export dialog, one exports XML entities, which would seem interesting if it didn't export the whole style of the object, besides it doesn't concern gradients which stay with their hardcoded colors on the gradient stops in the XML code.
I find it odd that no such feature exists to allow variable or named colors in drawing...
Does anyone know about such feature, or think it's possible to script something to easily flag the current object in such a way the SVG export would retain this information ?

Oh, BTW, it technically is not a white background either. It is a transparent background. But the grid is hidden to make it easier to design. For new users this can be deceiving since almost any other app is a white background unless you see the grid like in photoshop. In Illustrator, to fill you are required to have an object.

  • Changing default color scheme when exporting ALV report to Excel spreadshee

    Hi all,
We have a bunch of FI reports created using OOPS in abap.  Each of the reports has the functionality to be exported to an excel spreadsheet.  When exporting to Excel, the headers are a very dark brown color, making them difficult to read and it has been requested that they are shaded a lighter color.  I have not defined any sort of color scheme within the report itself, and I was wondering if there was a way to change the color scheme when exporting the report to excel.  Let me know if there is anything that can be done, thanks!

  • Help with SVG Export

    Hey all,
I am building a glyph font in Illustrator CS6. The problem here deals with a large number of assets, all of which need SVG exports at 32x32px (due to a strict grid definitions) for import and compiling purposes (assets need to be sequential in naming for accurate import and compile and maintenance as well). All of the AI export solutions I have seen require the SVGs to be on individual artboards or in separate layers in order to export.
Artboards are extremely limiting as AI has that infamous 100 artboard limit.
When it comes to the layers solution, as far as I can tell, there is no way via extensions or otherwise to take sublayers (grouped/compound paths intact; release to layers does not retain the compound paths) and turn them into top-level layers which can then, in turn, be exported as individual SVG's via this script modified by Tom Byrne.
At this point it seems like an entirely manual process. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Am I missing something that could ease the production pain?
    Regards,
    Sean

You might want to look at Inkscape which is a freeware product and I believe that the output is SVG.

  • Big Color Shift between exported H264 mp4 and Program Monitor

I get a big Color Shift between exported H264 mp4 on Vimeo/Youtube and Quicktime X and Program Monitor.
There are quite a few posts on Quicktime gamma issues, but there seem to be no solutions and the other editors I know don't seem to have this problem.
I know there will be a bit of a shift but this is MASSIVE. At the moment I add a whole extra adjustment layer to all my clips to get it approximately right, but ofcourse this does not solve the issue nor does it give proper results.
Please do not reply with the "You need a real reference monitor via SDI etc etc ..."
By my logic on the same screen the program monitor should resemble what is going to be the final result in a relevant player like Quicktime X which all normal apple consumers use to watch their films.  I know VLC and Mpeg streamclip gives different results, but mostly when playing Quicktime/h264 files Quicktime will play it thus average users ( the people I'd like to downwload/buy my films )will watch it in Quicktime.
Furthermore, Quicktime X's gamma/color looks very similar to the image I get on Youtube or Vimeo - which is where all my current work is going. I'm not outputting to boradcast or DVD etc.
Strangely enough the MPEG 2 stuff I've done for DVD matches the Youtube output with the Program monitor.
    What am I doing wrong?
I have a Dell 2711 wide Gamut Display which is calibrated with an SPyder 3 Elite using its full colour gamut ( close to 90% of Adobe RGB - thus bigger than sRGB or Rec709) Could Premiere be ignoring the calibration in the Program monitor and making the image values 16-235 and then Quicktime uses all  values 0-255? If so, how can I fix this?
Any help will be much appreciated!

I know this has been a while so hopefully you found some help by now, but maybe this will help anyone stumbling across this.
What people seem to be missing in what you are asking is... this is the same file, on the same monitor, but with a different appearance in different software.  It is not a question of whether the overall monitoring is GOOD, and it is not a matter of hardware settings (as that would most likely propogate across all software) it is that it is not CONSISTENT side by side on the very same monitor.
I had very similar issues that really seemed to get worse when we got new monitors, which is what lead me to chime in here.  The monitors were also wide gamut displays.
    The problem is likely this...
    1. The difference being shown are the difference between software that properly color manages (i.e. Premier or After Effects) and software that does not (i.e. Quicktime or some web browsers)
    2. The reason it is so severe is that the wide gamut monitors are able to show many more colors and thus the difference between the managed and unmanaged software is much more exagerrated than on regular gamut monitors.
I found this great link that helped calm my nerves and helped me get handle on much of what is going on.
    http://www.artstorm.net/journal/2009/07/color-management-wide-gamut-dell-2408/
Now that is not to say that the 0-255/16-235 issue is not also involved here.  It is definitely possible that a specific codec or compressor is part of the problem, but it sounds like it starts with the color management issue first.
    I hope this helps.

  • Color change after exporting from Lightroom

I noticed a drastic color change after exporting a file from Lightroom to a JPEG file today. I have been using Lightroom for a while, and it never happened before. I am assuming that I changed the setting somehow and I cannot find how to fix it.
    Here is the original.
After exporting to a JPEG. The color is so drastically different. I tried both sRGB and AdobeRGB and they turn out to have the same problem.
It is not as clear as JPEG files, but edited files with Photoshop CS5 also looks slightly different viewed on Lightroom.
I would appreciate it if anyone could help me.  Thank you so much for your help!

Thanks everyone for looking into my problem!
    >Can you upload a sample of each
    >* Raw File
    >* XMP Sidecar
    >* Exported JPEG
I somehow can't find XMP sidecar files in my folders.... So instead, I exported the JPEG file to the 2nd JPEG file, hoping you can compare those two JPEG files.
The colors get lighter and lighter every time I export the files. I uploaded those files (RAW, 1st JPEG, 2nd JPEG) on line. I also changed the file samples from the original post because I can't add watermarks.
I checked my flles, but there is no preset applied to the JPEGs.
I am thinking of unistallng Lightroom and reinstalling it and see what happens.
    Thanks!

  • Photoshop 7.0 - Problem Retaining Original Color Space After Export

I just registered for this forum & would appreciate your input.
I convert Canon RAW files to jpgs & always embed the sRGB color profile & color space in the converted files.. Once I open & edit one of these files in Photoshop 7.0 & save it, the color space is changed to Abobe RGB. I have tried many changes via Edit > Color Settings, but still the same results. I thought that the settings preset "Web Graphics sRGB Color Space" would do the trick - but it doesn't.
If I go to Image > Mode > Convert to Profile & select sRGB for both source space and destination space for an opened jpg file, the sRGB color space is embedded in the saved file - even after reopening in PS, editing, and re-saving. Must I do this for each jpg I edit?
Please educate me how to set PS so all exported files either retain the sRGB color space or have PS embed the sRGB color space upon export.
    Thank you.

This is of course, an issue of permissions so there may be no solution.
Absolutely not. Don't jump to false premature conclusions. As Noel said, it solely depends on detecting a previous install/ verifying the install media. Since the latter is out of the question, the first would be way to go, the point being that it merely looks for the respective registry keys in HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Adobe. Lucky for you, back then nobody cared to encrypt such stuff so it could be hacked in manually. Off hand I'm just not aware of the specific structure for the keys, though, but a little digging might turn up that info. In fact it would be almost identical to the ones for PS 7, which might already linger there just lacking the proper vlaues...

  • SVG export to Illustrator?!?!

Okay okay... is it just me or is it stupid not to have SVG export to open into Illustrator but not KEEP the new Weight tool's weights when exporting to Illustrator which by Adobe's OWN admission is the same EAXACT tool!?!?! Is it just me? REALLY!?!?!
Am I just doing it wrong? Is this possible or not? So much for a 'suite'.

Semi-ignore my previous answer - figured out another work around that involves converting your slices to artboards.
After you have made all of your slices, use the Slice Selection Tool to select your first slice. Go to Object > Artboards > Convert to Artboards. This should create a new artboard out of that slice. Do this for all of your slices.
After creating new artboards from your slices, go to File > Export... and select Flash (swf) from the dropdown menu. Make sure you check the "Use Artboards" option underneath the format menu.
This process should result in individual swf files of each of your slices, along with your original image. Hope this helps!

  • SVG export fails

    Hi all,
We work on an AI file that functions as a master file for a icon library. The file is composed of several (roughly A4 sized) artboard that provide structure for the content. Each artboard contains a number of icons. In total there are about 200 icons.
We use 'Save for Web and Devices' for exporting the icons into SVG files. Our script transforms an alignment box (drawn under the actual icon shape) into a small artboard (typical size is 23x20 px) that is then exported into a SVG file. Intially this solution worked fine.
However, now as the number of items increase in the file (the file size is currently about 30MB) the SVG export started to fail. We get an error message saying: "failed to perform the operation, not enough memory". It seems that the size of the overall file has a factor even when we export only a tiny part of it. Deleting some drawings from the file cures the problem. Is this a bug? What can we do about it other than split the file?
          .mika.

AI still parses all objects and that's what gets you.  It simply assumes you would exceed a specific limit because of that. Nothing you can change and not strictly a bug. It's just not a suitable workflow in this case combined with AI's own croojedness.

  • Color profile for export in Aperture 3.0.3

    Hi
What is the best color profile for exporting in aperture 3.0.3 (specially, if the pictures are used for stock). I normally use the export version TIFF or PNG original. Is ADOBE 1998 or sRGB or something else? In Photoshop I have sRGB.
    Thank you for your advice.

Colour Profiles don't have a best one. It is a way of matching colour produced by one type of device so that it is reproduced by another type reasonably well. Allan

  • SVG export / import

I've been trying to help a client to export its AI data for translation and we have tested the SVG export/import path.
    1) AI (CS4) seems to not be able to open SVG files that it created itself.
-> What are the best SVG export settings that ensure AI is able to open/display/edit the processed files
    2) After translation of the SVG (in OmegaT), the SVG file contains English instead of Japanese as we can see when opening the file in Chrome/Quicklook (Mac), but when AI opens the file only the original Japanese is displayed.
I've tried to check the contents of the SVG file with a text editor but the English was there and I could not find why the data was not displayed.
Does anybody have suggestions on this issue ?
    Thank you in advance.

in the >>> file /save as /select svg>>> in svg options there's a preserve illustrator editing capabilities. note: file size increases.

  • How can I export artboard color in SVG?

  • SSRS 2012 Conditional Formatting Color Issues When Exporting to Excel

    Hi all,
We recently upgraded to SQL 2012 from SQL2008 R2. I'm having a strange issue with SSRS2012.
One of the report has conditional formattings on cell background colors. Everything works fine when render the report in browser or preview mode. However, the conditional formatting stop working when export the report to Excel (no issues if
export to pdf). All cells are high-lightened with pre-defined color although it should only high-lighten those cells that fulfil the condition.
Has someone encountered this issue before ? Thanks for any help.

    Hi ZZ02,
I have test the scenario in my testing environment, however, everything goes well when exporting to Excel format. The issue might be related to the expression for the conditional background color. To make further analysis, please post the expression as well
    as the report design structure.
Additionally, in SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services, the Excel rendering extension renders a report to the native format of Microsoft Excel 2007-2010, the format of which is ExcelOpenXML. By default, the previous version of the Excel rendering extension,
compatible with Microsoft Excel 2003, is disabled. At this time, I suggest that you enable the Excel 2003 rendering extension by modifying the RSReportServer.config file. After that, the Excel 2003 rendering format will be available on report manager (not
available in Report Designer). So, please export the report from report manager and check the result again.
For more information about enable the Excel 2003 rendering extension, please see:
