VS 2012 report project query designer greyed out

The graphical editor stopped working while editting a report project dataset. Now it shows all the button greyed out. It now only works in "Edit as Text" mode. I can't seem to find a fix.

I opened an issue with Microsoft here.

Here is the text if the link doesn't work.

  • Not getting Report Model Query Designer in SSRS

I am working on SQL Server reporting Service(SSRS) with Report Builder 3. I successfully connected Data Source with Oracle Server. When I working in Report Builder I did not find Report Model Query Designer. How can I find this?
How can it possible to merge dataset with datasource(database entity) in SSRS?
    Please help me.

    Hi Jewel,
To enable Report Model Query Designer in Report Builder, we need use Report Model as the datasource. Report models can be used as data sources for reports created in Report Designer and Report Builder 3.0.
So in your scenario, you need to create a Report Model project in SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS), and then deploy this report model to report server. Then in Report Builder, you can use this report model as datasource and open
    Report Model Query Designer window.

  • Error while executing report in query designer

    Dear Folks,
I am geting following error while executing report in query designer.
    Error:500 E
an exception raised because of 0analysis pattern.
Hence,i am unable to execute any report.
    Need help.
    Thanks

    Hi Kitu G,
I think this is something to do with the bex web 0ANALYSIS* objects not being installed in your BW system.
I would try and do the following:
    - Goto RSA1 > BI Content > BEx Web Template (BTMP)
    - Then double-click on Select Object.
    - Highlight all objects that start with 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN
    - Click on Transfer Selections, and then Install.
If you can't do the above in prd, do it in DEV, then transport the objects to prd.
After all this, try re-running your queries.
Any questions/clarification just let me know
    Cheers.

to calculate due and not due in two columns
in report 2 key figure calculate in the time zones using given in variable Grid Width (0DPM_BV0) like due in 1 to 30 days, 31 to 60 days...the due amount based on the open on key date(0P_DATE_OPEN)
    to calculate in 1-30, 31-60, 61-90, 91-120, 121-150 and >150 days in 6 columns
now i have requirement like this
    not due, 1-30, 31-60, >60, due,1-30, 31-60, >60 in 8 columns
    or

  • Can Power Users or Mgt Create and Design Reports Through Query Designer ?

    Dear BI consultants,
    Iam new to BI.
My management has requested me to Train Power users from All Modules(FICO,HR,QM,PP,SD,MM) to Create Queries and Design Through Query Designer.
My question is are we suppose to Give query Designer Access to Power users or Mgt so that they can create Queries and reports by themselves. Please Suggest me wht is the Best Practices.
is it feasable to train power users and Mgt as to how 2 create queries. will there be any side effect on the System or our end.
    Plz suggest.
wht are the advantages and disadvantages of this.
If I train the Power users then is there any risk of my Job.
since they will be creating all reports by themselves.
wht else can a BI consultant do since iam in a support project.
how do i convince my Mgt?
    Plz Suggest.
    Thanks Awaiting

This is common procedure maintained in most of the company's for end users.
There is no issue if you train the power users.you will be the first point of contact if they have any doubts.and more over you are supporting for your client right? this can't be handed over to power user or end user. data is imp for the client so there will not be any problem for you, if any issue comes while loading you need to take care of the errors and fix the.
power users or end user will be familiar with Business requirement not with the Query building logic's not with the BW procedure so no worries for you.
as vineeth said its better to keep control regarding the global and key things at your end so that you will not loose contol on the reports.

    Hi,
    Have you tried APD?
You can combine them using workbook or from a multiprovider query. APD is another option. Have a look at these APD docs:
In APD, you can take input from two queries, then combine them and load to another object (DSO).

  • How to execute a report in Query Designer

    Hi Expert,
I found that I can execute some report by IE in query design, but some are not support, When I clicked "Execute" Button,  no response and no error message. is there any special setting need to be done?
    Thank you in advance

No special setting needs to be done for this as it is working for some queries...could be a network issue, or something with the portal.

  • 12-month trend report through Query designer

We have a requirement to create a 12-month trend report in BI through Query designer.   The requirement is to have the report show 12 columns (i.e. Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr....) and each month should show either Actuals or Budget data based on the month that is entered at run time.    As this report is for high level executives, they only want to have one variable (Month/Year) to select at run time.   It is assumed that based on whatever month/year they enter, all months less than and equal to that month will have actuals data.    For example, if March 2007 is selected at run time, the query should then produce the following data: Jan Actual, Feb Actual, March Actual, April Budget, May Budget, June Budget and so on.
Can anybody provide me with some suggestions as to how this query can be written?
    thank you,
    Lanny

Ruslim, there are other things that you need to conside:
#1 - Actuals vs Budget - are you going to show both (comparison)?  if not, then you have to select a version at the beginning of the report.
#2 - Balance Sheet or Income Statement?  If you are showing consolidated data, you might need to include Period 13-16 for December, depending on what year-end adjustment entries are made and what special period they are made in (refer to your Fiscal Year variant for that).  Depending on the chart of accounts, you might have to make two separate queries
#3 - Periodic vs Cumulative.  If you don't have a cumulative key figure (such as in a BCS environment) then you will need to put in a range for the posting period (#-0FISCPER3).  In this case, remember to include the unassigned period (or period 0) to include your year-beginning balances
    good luck

  • How to pass a date parameter from report builder query designer to oracle database

i'm using report builder 3.0 connected to oracle database. i'm trying to pass a date parameter in the query with no success, i don't
know the exact syntax. I've tried :
    SELECT * FROM igeneral.GCL_CLAIMS where CREATED_BY IN (:CREATED_BY) AND CLAIM_YEAR IN(:UW_YEAR) AND (LOSS_DATE) >To_Date('01/01/2014','mm/dd/yyyy')
    it worked perfectly.
However if i try to put a date parameter "From" instead of 01/01/2014 it will not work, a Define Query Parameter popup window appear and error occurred after i fill
the values (usually i shouldnt get this popup i should enter the value when i run the report)
    SELECT * FROM igeneral.GCL_CLAIMS where CREATED_BY IN (:CREATED_BY) AND CLAIM_YEAR IN(:UW_YEAR) AND (LOSS_DATE) >To_Date(:From,'mm/dd/yyyy')
    appreciate your assistance

    Hi Gorgo,
According to your description, you have problem when in passing a parameter for running a Oracle Query. Right?
Based on my knowledge, it use "&" as synax for parameter in Oracle, like we use "@" in SQL Server. In this scenario, maybe you can try '01/01/2014' when inputing in "From". We are not sure if there's any limitation for To_Date()
function. For your self-testing, you can try the query in sqlplus/sql delveloper. Since your issue is related to Oracle query, we suggest you post this thread onto Oracle forum.

  • How to create YTD reports in Query Designer (year over year comparison)

    Dear BW Reporting gurus,
I am trying to create a dynamic YTD report.
The cube contains data from 2010, 2011, 2012.
Let's say today's date is Feb 12, 2012. When the user runs the report, the report should contain:
    A column of cumulative sales quantity from Jan 1, 2010 - Feb 12, 2010.
A second column of cumulative sales quantity from Jan 1, 2011 - Feb 12, 2011.
A third column of cumulative sales quantity from Jan 1, 2010 - Feb 12, 2012.
I am trying to solve this by creating a Restricted Key Figure:
    For 2010:
    SALES QUANTITY restricted by:
Current Calendar year offset by -2.
0CALMONTH2 with less than or equal to (SAP Exit Variable) Current Calendar Month.
But, I am confused as to how to restrict the day so it dynamically restricts less than or equal to the current day.
    Please help.
    Edited by: sauravg80 on Feb 13, 2012 3:15 AM

    Hi Sourabh
As far as my understanding is concerned one data is fixed, that is first date of any year.
0DAT on 0CALDAY can give you current calender day. Now you can offset that with  - 365
Only problem I see is if the year is leap year. Then it should be - 366
To check the leap year thing you need to go for a customer exit variable.
Customer Exit would be  easy one
