X220 with backlight leak and stuck pixel

I just ordered x220 from lenovo. I recived the box yesterday and found my new thinkpad had many backlight leak and 1 stuck pixel at the center. I am very disappoint with it. Can I return it, change to new one or send to lenovo sevice center in thailand to change my IPS display.
I ordered it on 5/26/11. My friend in USA passed it to me on 6/6/11 then I recieved package in Thailand on 6/10/11.
This is my backlight leak.

Unfortunately I can not take stuck pixel image.
I hope lenovo will help me fix this problem.
Thank you.

welcome to the forum!
the current policy is that a display must have three or more dead or stuck pixels to be considered defective.   one is simply not enough.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-69856
regarding the backlight bleed, it looks normal to me for an LED notebook panel.   i could create a condition where even $5000 IPS graphics displays show some sort of backlight bleed on a black background with brightness at full power.   no display is perfect in this regard.   my X220 IPS panel has a slight amount of bleed under the right conditions but is only noticable 1% of the time.
if this is unsatisfactory, you may try contacting lenovo support in thailand at 1-800-060-066 or 66 2273 4088 between 8AM and 5PM monday-friday.   however, please note that they will likely refer to the same pixel policy above.   whether or not they will make an acception due to the location of the stuck pixel is up to them.
also, i've removed your second account "eldonler" as we don't allow members to have more than one login per our community participation rules.   thanks for understanding.

  • Windpad 110W Tablet LCD light leak and dead pixels

    Hello,
I've just received the 110W tablet (I'm in the USA) and the LCD exhibits what I'll call light leak, where the backlight leaks or bleeds through so that when viewing a dark background you can see white light around the perimeter of the display.  The white light is in blotches and shows up around the display in various places.  My tablet most noticeably shows light leak on the left side of the display.  Has anyone else had this problem with their Windpad tablets?
I've seen this in several other tablets I've had (Eee Transformer, Xoom FE), and it may just be something we live with, but I'd like to get your feedback before I return it to find the replacement exhibits the same light leak problem.
Also, how about dead pixels?  Mine has a dead (always black) pixel up at the top of the display which doesn't really bother me at all.  Again, I'm just looking for your experience with these issues.
    Thanks!

Interesting that you would return it for the dead pixel.
Absolutely, on a screen this size it would be very annoying. I have only ever had a dead pixel at work and made them change it.
I have no idea what MSI's dead pixel policy is  though so that may affect whether you can return it or not.

  • IPT and Stuck Pixel Issue?

Well I do have a week 39, tho I don't have any problems with it, but the fact that the stuck pixel can be quite annoying, not that it's a big stuck pixel, but it's rather a tiny one but on few places. But is it worth going back and exchanging for a new one or just keep the one I have? Even when PSP came out, most psp did have dead/stuck pixels but I've heard some say that with the black LCD's, it's not the manufacturer's fault for creating a dead/stuck pixel, that it is just there when they make them (I may be wrong but that's what I heard) Due to the fact that even if you exchange for a new one that the new one COULD have more stuck pixels than the previous one, so is it still worth going back and exchanging for a new one? What would I say to them? Will they give me a new one because of a stuck pixel? I did ask them that if any problem occurs that they will exchange for a new one within a month, and I suppose I heard them say that if somethings wrong with the screen that it's 2 week (probably about dead/stuck pixels). I want to know your opinions on what I should do. Though it is my decision, I've read other threads that people exchange theirs because they have a stuck pixel.

Yea I went yesterday, but for some reason they couldn't see the stuck pixels, and I showed the location of the stuck pixels and still they could not find any. Which is surprising because the store was filled with bright light. When at home, I can see the stuck pixels. They told me to take a close shot of the stuck pixels with a camera (this is very ridiculous to me) and to bring it back and show them. So I did.
Now, they are out of stock and won't receive their next shipment in 2 weeks. Well looks like I'll have to wait 2 weeks without my touch. I did not return it, but waiting for an exchange. Since I got mine on Monday the 8th, I have a bit over 1 week left before the 14 days are over, however, they told me that if I want to exchange I have to leave my touch with them since they were out of stock, and this way the 14 day thing will stop here. I find this ridiculous, I'm not sure about U.S but I live in Korea, they said they won't get there next shipment till 2 weeks, while I'm sure that U.S gets their new shipment the next day, but due to the supply and demand, i'm sure even in U.S they are out of stock (I may be wrong on this, but the supply is at scarce and the demand is high as of now).
Now when I went there today, They only had 1 80 GB Ipod Classic left, and there were tons of Ipod Nano 3rd Gen. They were out of Touch.
So they told me to give me my name and my contact so that when their next shipment arrives that they will contact me first thing when the next shipment arrives and they will reserve it for me. And that they will give me the screen protector for Free and that they will apply them on the screen, which is nice and makes me as a costumer happy.
Now I do know the fact that even if I get a new touch, there is still a possibility that I could get another with stuck pixels, and if that happens, I guess I'll have to live with it.
I'm not sure if I should take my laptop with me so that I can load up my music there on the spot and find any stuck pixels, but i'm sure the genious won't be too happy with me if I did that.
I'm sorry for this long story, but that it is ridiculous how they don't get their next shipment in 2 weeks. Now I have no touch with me, but just a box, my nano (2nd gen) is broken and nothing I can do. Looks like I'd have to wait. For those who read this, I'm sorry for this long writing but it's my story after I had to go back to the store twice.
BTW. I'm sure most likely that I will get a week 40+ IPT. So if anybody who does have a week 40+, I want some feedbacks if they encountered any problems. I'm sure it won't but who knows.

  • For everybody with a N96 and stuck at firmware ver...

    Hello everybody
As some n96 users know the phone had lots of bugs and was working very slow. I went to a Nokia Care Point because I wanted everything fixed. I couldn't update to version 12 via my cellphone, but at the care point they had a dongle and they could install the new firmware.
So if your phone has version 11 with the bugs and you want to have new firmware but can't do it via the phone: go to a care point!
Version 12 is very stable, overall performance is increased, and nowadays, I just have to do a total reboot only a few times a day instead of a few times an hour ;-)
I really hope Nokia will not release the n97 without checking every bug first!!!

Gdgmacguy : my friend , i tried all basics soft reset, hard reset on my iphone 4s..the phone is not booting at all its stuck red battery screen..even itunes is not recognising the device...
My other concern is, i started to use my spare iphone 3gs after my 4s gt dead..but 3gs is also showing same symptoms..randomn switch off and will boot only once conected to charger with plenty of charge..i tried to restore, reset on this device..im afraid it might crash as welll...so need a solution..

  • LR3 Feature Request - Heal Preset/Import Capability and Stuck Pixels

(Note: I posted something similar some time ago but the original thread seems to be inaccessible although a cached Google version is available here. )
2 features requests but with a common theme :-
    1) Spot removal/cloning/healing added to a preset. Currently the only way to do this is to copy and synchronise during an editing session of photos that have already been imported.  The capability to save spot removal as a preset would be very useful for dealing with recurring dust spots and similar issues.
Which leads to request 2 -
    2)  The ability to manually 'tune' the hot pixel removal capability. Currently LR is failing to deal with some stuck/hot pixels on one of my cameras (a Ricoh GRD III) if this is linked to the way DNG has been implemented in the Ricoh, as suggested in the earlier thread re this subject, then a response from Adobe to confirm this would be appreciated, either way some ability to 'tell' LR what to do would be of benefit.

Thanks for the response Rob, saving a 'target' image is a good idea, but other than that I don't see this workaround as being particularly different from the approach I outlined in my initial post. One of the most useful capabilities LR has is being able to apply presets during import, yet Adobe for whatever reason have not allowed any of the tools (other than graduated filters) to be applied this way, I would love to know why. There was a 'bug' with LR 1 if I remember correctly whereby spot settings could be saved to a preset, but this was 'fixed' in a later release, so it appears to be possible to implement this functionality, yet they have decided not to do so.

  • Freezing iMac G5 with random red and black pixels, HELP!

Hello all, and thanks in advance for helping. Here's my dilemma: I have a 20" iMac G5 that I have been using for 2-3 years or so. I recently started doing less work on it, as I replaced it with a new 24" iMac, so now it is used for one or two programs as well as occasional internet use. The system began to become slower, then finally started freezing between minimal tasks, even something as simple as pressing TAB in Safari, to trying to make a new folder in iPhoto. We restarted a bunch of times, and even tried clearing the PRAM. Now, it freezes during the start-up and there's little red and black boxes (small, maybe 4x4 or 6x6 worth of pixels) appearing randomly on the screen. When we are able to get the system to start, after one or two small tasks (opening the Address Book, or starting Safari) the program freezes, the pinwheel starts spinning, and I lose any chance to do anything more on the computer without powering down. Any advice or suggestions is appreciated! Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi PPRI and Miriam,
Same deal going on here. It's been a while since I last posted - meaning no problems (which is goooood). So here is the issue:
Would stop at blue screen before loading to main screen. Minor repair on HD volume, and now freezes on main screen very quickly, after booting past blue screen. A few wierd pixels are seen, which lets me know that it has frozen.
    Here's what I did:
Hardware check with utility - no problems found, including logic board. From the manual, it seems like it is a software issue.
As before, I repaired a few permissions and minor repair on HD volume. Still not working.
Also opened up my vents and carefully vacuumed the dust - fans were spinning hard. Still, not working.
My next step is to do an archive & install. I'm not sure how to backup my files, so this will have to suffice. This leads me to my questions:
Q1 - How do you burn a backup, without an external HD and without being able to get past my main screen?
Q2 - I noticed a post before this one, concerning the same issue, with Miriam posting on it. Is it overkill to post the same problem/question in another thread in order to maximize the chances for a good response? Any suggestions Miriam?
Thank you for being so helpful. Apple community rocks!
(PS - will let you know how the archive/install goes. If it doesn't work, I may pay to back my files on disc, and then I'll try reformatting HD altogether. Again, will let you know how it goes).
(PS2 - Not sure if this matters, but my imac was one the ones that needed the free extended warranty for the capacitor issues - identified by the serial numbers. Doubt that's the problem since it was working fine after repairs).

  • Exports come out with blocky titles and shifting pixels, doesn't match previews.

OK i have 720x480 29.97 footage which I imported and dragged a clip down to the new item icon to make an appropriate sequence. I created titles which ended up looking blocky in the program monitor for some reason. I then made a 1280x720 sequence for the heck of it and it turns out the titles look fine in those in the program monitor. I went to export and it looked fine in the render preview as well, but the final export in 720 (480 footage placed into a 720 timeline and exported as 720 in BOTH 29.9 and 23.9) and titles looks horrible. So deos the video itself, the pixels are jittery (Expecially in a shot with roof shingles for example).  I am looking at the export settings and have no idea what could be going on with this.
To add to this, I have actually exported version of this project in the past just fine. I am just doing something new to it and am now just facing these issues. I successfully exported all sorts of ways in the past.. I have brouhgt it into a sequence fit for the footage using the new item icon, and exported out as both 720 and 480 in 29.9 and 23.9, even burned to dvd in Encore and it played fine.
Im not wrapping my brain around how suddenly titles can look like blocky garbage in a 480 sequence, or why the render previews arent matching the actual output. any adivce here appreciated.

  • MBP 15" freezes with solid pink and green pixels running across display

This happens every time I boot the machine. Randomly the machine will freeze and the display will show pink and green diagonal pixels running through whatever application is open.
I'm guessing this is going to be a send back issue. Anybody know anything about this?
I've had the machine for less than 12 hours and this is my first mac. This is very discouraging. Earlier I was furious because it makes the machine totally unusable.

No, it's definitely not supposed to do that.
    Seeing as you can't do much until tomorrow - a couple of things you could try;
    a) check the ram is pushed all the way in.
    b) Create a new user account - test - and see if it persists there.
    b) If a and b doesn't work - try a full clean install of OSX. I once had a PB that did odd things out of the box but was ok after a clean install of OSX from a disc. I assumed the disc image was compromised.
    Best of luck

  • Stuck pixels. Would you put up with them? Pic inside.

    Here's my screen.
    http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/5430/stuckpixelscn4.jpg
See the little white dots on the screen? Am I just too picky? Would you put up with it?

This is a week 38. You're right in arms length most of them are not that noticeable but I can still see some. Of course you don't realize they're there when you watch music videos since they're usually fast but when watching dark movies or seeing pictures you can see them.
I would think that for such a small screen costing $400 they should be near perfect and stuck pixels, negative blacks shouldn't be present in any of the production batches.
I'll give it try on replacing it next week and maybe I'll get a week 39 and hopefully it will be a little better.

  • Late 2008 MacBook Pro 17" frozen with pink and green pixels

    Hi all,
Hope someone can point me in the right direction with my Macbook Pro problem. I have a late 2008 version of the 17" MacBook Pro. I've been using it today and it's been completely fine. that was up until I was uploading my recent holiday photos to iPhoto. I left it to upload and came to check on it after 5 minutes. I found the program had frozen and pink and green pixels were spotted all over the screen.
I turned the laptop off by the power button. When I started her up again I found the white screen with the pink and green pixels everywhere and apple logo appear. It starting booting and then just stopped. the screen froze and nothing was working. I've tried booting up in safe mode and again it just freezes.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated as I'm lost without my computer. I've included a photo I've taken if the frozen screen.
    Many Thanks,
    Dean.

According to MacBook Pro (Early 2008 and Late 2008) - Technical Specifications you have a model with
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor with dual-link DVI support and 512MB of GDDR3 memory
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors
    DVI output port
VGA output using included DVI to VGA adapter
    Built-in iSight camera
The 8600M GT has several recalls for GPUs, which had a 4-year free repair from date of purchase. It may be too late in your case. You can find the recall notices via internet search if you want to.
You should run the AHT -Using Apple Hardware Test

I don't know about steve---but I've owned 8 iPhones (5 for me and 3 for my wife) starting with the 3G and ending with my current iPhone 5 and none of them had a display problem of any kind.
Several of my family members also have iPhones--about 10 more, I'd guess, and none of them have a stuck pixel, either.
If I had received a display with a stuck pixel I would have definitely returned it immediately.

  • X220 resume from sleep and boot issues

This is driving me crazy! I have an X220 with Windows 8 and UEFI boot installed.
It all started when I first installed Windows 8 a few months ago which required me to update my BIOS to the latest version. The installation process often got stuck when booting from the Installation CD (the round circle stopped spinning, the display was at full brightness). Eventually I managed to boot into the Installer (when the boot logo doesn't get stuck, the display is then dimmed to minimum).
I was quite happy to have a superfast lightweight OS which booted in an instant.. When suddenly it started to get stuck when booting (same issue with the boot logo not spinning anymore). This happens quite randomly, but I often manage to boot (maybe 2-3 times a week, I don't boot often though..). Now, the booting hangs are less of an issue for me but more often that that it fails to resume from sleep. The LEDs flash and then it instantly drops to sleep mode again (well at least the sleep/moon LED is active). This happens quite often as I sleep/resume up to 5-10 times a day (changing lecture rooms, meeting rooms, save battery when the lectures are boring, ...)
Now after researching and spending hours in debugging this issue, it seems that I'm not the only one having this (or a similar) issue, but often without any definitive solution being specified.
This is what I have already tried:
    * Upgrade BIOS and SSD firmware to latest
    * Install/update latest drivers
    * Mess around with BIOS options
    ** UEFI/Legacy First options
    ** Intel Virtualization/vt-d
    ** Others..
I know based on other threads that I'm not the only one experiencing exactly these issues. Has anyone managed to fix this?
    Thank's in advance
    Fabio Scala

I had a similar issue, as soon as a described even a little bit of it to warrenty support they sent someone to swap the board
It seems thats the only fix, its been fine since

I am using a Thinkpad X220 (4291) laptop with 8 gigs of RAM.  I recently switched my HDD for an SSD (Samsung 840 which is 500G).  I have been following the posts and have set the BIOS accordingly as well as updated firmware for the drive.  I use Crystal Disk Mark for measuring the read/write of the drive and am not getting the speeds I should.  I currently get:
    CrystalDiskMark 3.0.2 (C) 2007-2013 hiyohiyo

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,

I have an X220 with W8 Pro and Samsung 840 Pro.  Getting 528 read and 474 sequential write.   Did you install the Samsung Magician software and update the firmware on the SSD?
Samsung Magician will also provide a speedtest you can check against crystal disk mark.
Lots of sites for optimizing SSD settings but unless it is a firmware issue I don't know why you would get such slower speeds.

  • Anyone have a problem returning one with stuck pixels?

I have about 5 stuck pixels on mine. I am deciding if I should bring it back or not. Has anyone returned it for that reason? Did you have a problem?

hello. I am also affected by the stuck pixel issue. I have about 3 that really stand out. At first, I was very frustrated with this and I was going to take it back. After a while, I realized that, unless they are smack dab in the middle of your screen, they aren't there if you don't pay attention to them. If your screen doesn't have the negative black effect, then you shouldn't return it. Plus, Apple has a pixel policy, although I don't know it. You may have a problem if the Genius doesn't see them.

  • Macbook pro retina dead/stuck pixel and warranty question

So here's the situation.  A couple of weeks ago I brought my macbook pro 15'' retina into the apple store because the speakers were buzzing sometimes.  It wasn't a huge problem, but my 1-year warranty was about to expire so I figured I'd bring it it to get fixed.
About a week later, I went to pick it up and I brought it back home.  I tried out the speakers (it was too loud to hear them in the store), and the problem was still there.  It wasn't worth complaning and bringing it back because I usually use external speakers anyway, so I figured I'd just live with it.
But about a week later I noticed there is a dead/stuck pixel on my screen.  It shows up white against a black background, but is also detectable against a white background.  I can also faintly see a mark there when the display is turned off so I have a feeling it was caused by physical damage.  I want to bring it in to get it fixed but my warranty is now 2-3 weeks expired.  There is a 90-day guarantee on the speaker "repair" I had done, but obviously that is not directly related to the screen.
I realize it's hard to believe screen issues would arise from a speaker repair.  However, I think it is at least possible that they damaged the screen when they took the computer apart.  I've had this computer for a year without any issues; I definitely would have noticed the pixel had it been there before--I do alot of programming with a black background.  It's quite a coincidence that I first notice a problem right after I bring it in to apple.
Do you think I can bring it in and get it repaired?  Should I call AppleCare?  Also, if they deny me the repair, is it too late to extend AppleCare for another year?  Thanks!
(the display is Samsung, for those who are wondering)

We are just users such as you so our opinions don't really matter.  Do bring the MBP in to the store and have a talk with a decision maker.  Sometimes good things happen but don't expect that to be the case.
Regarding Apple care, you are too late.  It must be purchased prior to the expiration of the one year warranty.
    Ciao.
