10.4.10 and broken printing/faxing

Updated G4 Digital Audio the other day to 10.4.10. It has two printers connected directly, an HP LaserJet 1200 via USB and a Canon i9900 via Firewire. Those printers are shared with three other Macs on our small network, which has two wireless computers and two Ethernet computers. A third network printer is connected via AppleTalk (Ethernet), an HP LaserJet 6MP. The G4 Digital Audio also has an internal fax. Entire system has worked flawlessly with all 4 Macs using the three printers, until I upgraded to 10.4.10 . Now NONE of the printers are accessible, and the fax doesn't work. Unfortunately, I fiddled and faddled not knowing what I was doing and probably made things worse. I Reset Printer System, re-added printers, tried to figure out HOW to re-add the fax modem. No joy so far. I repaired permissions, checked printer queues, rebooted, got the Combo updater and installed again, with no error messages during reinstallation.
Is there anything else I can do before I have to give up and revert to 10.4.9? And will I have to revert on all four computers? Two are PowerBooks, one is an iMac G5 (which I use to sync my beautiful iPhone, so I NEED it to stay with 10.4.10); and of course one is the old G4 workhorse with the fax and the printers attached. First time I've been bitten by the update woes on a Mac in my six years as a switcher. Kind of like being on a PC again

I should have updated this in case anyone else thinks 10.4.10 "broke" their printers. Shortly after I first wrote in, I did an archive and install back to 10.4.9; printing and faxing then worked normally again. I just couldn't believe it was really 10.4.10 though, so I reinstalled that again, from the combo updater. Everything was fine! I had to go "find" the printers again, but this worked without a hitch, and the fax modem also worked again. The only thing I didn't do was reinstall the latest CUPS. I doubt that was the problem, frankly, but have decided I don't need it (just in case!). I did the reinstall only on the G4 to which the printers and fax were attached. The other computers then found the printers without my reinstalling anything on them directly. So it wasn't 10.4.10 itself, but something that might have gone wrong when I updated to it the first time, using Software Install. It could be that old system really was ready for an Archive and Install... Everything seems to be working on it nice and fast now.

Hello! In the printer setup utility choose "show Jobs" and see if you can click on "start jobs". It's probably gotten stuck because it ran out of ink. Tom

CUPS corrupt - can't access Print & Fax - Constant Terminal & Console msgs

While trying to get a Windows network printer to work I changed some settings in the CUPS config file (BrowseProtocols all I suspect is the problem).
Now when I try and click Print & Fax in prefs I get the eternal wheel. I can't access localhost:631 (I believe that's the proper port) anymore either.
In terminal, I receive this message about every 6-7 seconds:

On my MacBook, a bum cups.conf file was causing the ten-second throttling problem and that was (mysteriously, at least to me for the last few days) preventing Parallels Desktop from successfully starting up! I went round and round on this until I found the messages on the console and tried going back to the original conf file.

Apparently there is no HP software support for the HP 3050 fax or scan functions with OS X 'Lion' 10.7:

Alternatives?
1) Run a Windows client on the Mac using Boot Camp or one of the available virtualization programs like Parallels, VMware Fusion, and others so you can run the latest Windows print/fax/scan driver.
2) If your Mac hardware supports an older OS X version, downgrade to one (Snow Leopard?) that still had support for print, fax and scan.
3) Buy a newer printer. A 2007 model is 5+ years old, and should now be fully depreciated in a business.

Print & Fax prefs & any and all print commands unresponsive

Newb here. I have a 17" mbp running Leopard 10.5.2. I'm networked to a Konica Printer at work and I sent a very large job across. The job was incorrect so I canceled it. That's when the trouble started. Now I can't even open the print dialog in ANY program, nor can I open "print & fax" preferences in sys prefs.
I've opened the activity monitor and cupsd is just devouring my cpu. I've tried to kill it and restart it in terminal, but honestly, I'm don't really know what I'm doing, nor what the core problem is. Any help is appreciated...is there any more info that you need from me to help troubleshoot?

Opened console and there seems to be a constant stream of "cupsd" errors. Every 10sec actually.
Here's the system log entry:

CS4 and Epson Printing is it still broken?

Just wondering if anyone has testing printing from InDesign CS4 to an Epson and whether or not they fixed the printing issues that were in CS3 (ie. not being able to match a print from InDesign CS3 with a print from Photoshop CS3 without jumping through hoops)?

The following post from a thread at Apple (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6717978) has SOLVED my CS4 printing problem.
My prints from CS4 now match my CS3 using my custom profiles.
...."Just finished a 30 minute tech support call with an upper division rep at Epson, we seem to have fixed the problem, I was very skeptical, but so far all is well. This is exactly what we did:
Go to you user account and navigate to:
Library->Preferences. Select everything that starts with "com.apple.print" (I had nine files) Copy these files to a safe place, they contain customization to you r print settings such as paper handling and quality settings.
Now delete the ones from the Library->Preferences folder.
Go to your main hard drive, not your user account, and select "Library->Printers"
Delete "Epson"
Empty Trash
Reboot
Install the latest driver from Epson for your printer.
Open the "Print & Fax" System Preference
While holding down the "control" key, click in the area where the printers are listed (left side bar). You will be presented with a pop-up menu that says: "rest printing system". Select it and your existing printers will disappear.
Add your printer back to the "Printers" list.
Close the "Print & Fax" window
Add your saved "com.apple.print" files back to the User->Library->Preferences folder
Cross your fingers."

HP 6510 stopped printing black and "broken pipe"

All of a sudden my printer won't print black. I did all the suggestions on your forum for this including hard reset, downloaded the new driver update to operate with Mac 10.9.1 Mavericks, uninstalled and reinstalled printer and the problem is not fixed. I also uninstalled and reinstalled all 4 printer cartridges. Mac and printer are both less than 2 years old. We bought them at the same time. Printer has been great until now but I'm ready to throw it out the window after already having spent hours trying to fix it. The other 3 colors are all working fine for printing. Once the new driver installed I noticed that the print options had changed and now the "broken pipe" message came up on printer and on Mac. I have always printed wirelessly. Please help!

I understand that you are getting a broken pipe error when reinstalling the software and drivers on your Mac. Here is a link to the Apple Forum where a customer resolved this issue.
For black ink not printing I recommend following the steps in this document for Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages. If you have done all of the steps in this document, then try installing the driver for the HP Envy 4500 series.

I'm using a Brother MFC 420CN (printer, fax, scanner) and can't get the scanner to work

I'm running Lion 10.7.2 and downloaded the latest twain plug-in for lion from Brother. I don't know where the twain driver went after I downloaded it. I searched the computer for it and it doesn't show up. I wanted to drag it into the import folder photoshop plug-ins folder in Photoshop CS5. There is no Twain plug-in the folder now. when I try to scan from the Brother Control Center I get error messages and do what the messages suggest but nothing works.I don't use the fax, I occasionally use the printer and the printer still works. There is only 1 USB cable that drives the Brother machine.

Have you downloaded the approriate Snow Leopard drivers for that printer? Make sure you get the appropriate and latest MP Navigator, as you start scans from the computer, not the all-in-one. Get them from http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp830#DriversAndSoftware

Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I understand that you are getting a connection error message when attempting to use eFax.
If you have an Envy 110, Envy 1145, Photosmart 7510, Photosmart 7515, or a Photosmart eStation, please refer to this post by @PrintApper regarding eFax titled eFax users - please read. It has the information regarding the eFax feature.
If you don’t have one of the above printers, please try setting a manual IP address and manual DNS servers for the printer. I have included a link to another post that has the steps, including screen shots, on how to do this. These steps are applicable for the Photosmart and Envy printer series despite the screen shots show a Photosmart 7510 printer.
If the above doesn’t help, please provide some additional information.
What model and product number of HP printer do you have? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
How is the printer still connected to your wireless network?
What operating system are you using? whatsmyos.com

Can I use Airport Express for printing and Ethernet printing at same time?

I've been trying to set up a couple of laser printers that were given to me recently. The printers are Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS and Samsung CLP-510. The reason I'd like to have both up and running is because the black toner for the Samsung costs twice as much as the toner for the LaserWriter. I have two questions that I am hoping someone will be able to answer.
1) The CLP prints a test page just fine. I was finally able to get the Samsung printing while directly connected to my PowerBook G4 via usb (I had to install a Xerox Phaser 6100 driver to do so!). Today I tried putting the usb into my Airport Express (which I use for my portable internet and airtunes) and now the printer does not respond. When I try to add the CLP as a bonjour printer, I get an error adding the printer and the printer does not respond. Can someone offer some advice as to how and if the CLP may work via the Airport Express?
2) The LaserWriter prints a test page just fine. I purchased a transceiver (albeit not an Apple transceiver - this one says Asante Friendlynet, the guy I bought it from said it would work though). The transceiver is connected to the Ethernet port on the printer - and I have a yellow ethernet cable (?) running from the transceiver to the ethernet port on my computer. I read somewhere on the internet that I need to turn on Appletalk in order to use the printer via ethernet but when I went into my network settings to do that, there was a warning that I could not turn on appletalk for ethernet without forsaking my airport. Can someone offer some advice as to how and if the 16/600 PS may work via ethernet without disrupting my (working) airport express? Also - I did not receive any software or drivers with this printer but I read that I may not need to (they come with Tiger - ?) Is anyone able to confirm this?

Hello Kappy! Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question.
I should update you at this point to say that I can add the 16/600 PS printer through a process that I found called 'Direct IP printing over ethernet'. (I think I've done this correctly - but I honestly have no idea about network stuff). Here's what I did:
-went into system prefs and looked at the network settings under built-in ethernet tab. Under TCP-IP I found the IP address of my network host.
-In the Printer Setup Utility I tried to manually add the 16/600 PS printer. In the Printer Browser window, I selected IP Printer.
-Under IP printer, I selected LPD Protocol. I inserted the IP address copied from my network settings (above) in the address bar. In the Queue bar I typed in the name of the printer 'Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS'.
-Again in the Printer Browser box I gave the printer a name and location. Finally, in the 'print using' box I selected Apple and then chose the model from the drop down list. 'Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS fax v.2014.016'
-I got a dialogue box that asked about other installable features - clicked ok.
-when I tried to print a Word document, the Apple LaserWriter driver opened up and appeared in my dock and then I got an immediate error saying "network host ---.---.--.--- is busy, down, or unreachable..."
-I tried to repair permissions, but it did not resolve my issue.
-I noticed that even after adding the 16/600, it did not show up as a bonjour printer, but remained visible as a printer in my list (although grayed out).
I did some troubleshooting and the best I could find as a close match for my problem was that perhaps I had entered the name incorrectly in the Queue box...? If anyone knows how to find the appropriate name to insert I would sure appreciate knowing.
Finally - you should probably know that I received this printer from someone else. I guess I'm wondering if I need to be resetting network settings on the printer somehow? The test page lists the following:
Ethernet (Address: 08:00:07:84:78:e9)
EtherTalk: PostScript
NetWare: AutoSelect
TCP/IP: AutoSelect
IP address: 0.0.0.0
And - now finally, to answer your questions (the best I can, that is)
I did connect the yellow network cable directly into my laptop (right side, 4th input, counting away from me). I have a portable internet modem that plugs into my wall (for power) and then has a cable (Ethernet?) that goes into my Airport Express (LAN port?). I have no other router and there are no other inputs or outputs on my modem. My Airport Express has only one input for the modem, one mini input for airtunes, and one usb input (in which I have a cable connecting to my other laser printer (now working wirelessly via Airport Express!!)
Should I have these cables hooked up differently?
What is a Phonenet adaptor? My internet is provided via a cable service (not DSL). It is wireless and portable - I can take it to any major city in Canada and it works as long as it is plugged into a power source and near a window.
I really appreciate any help you can offer. At this point I must have spent the better part of almost two weeks trying to get these older laser printers up and running.

How to print fax call log on hp laserjet pro mfp m375

There should be a way to print fax call log on hp laserjet pro mfp m375. Not sure whether to go in "tools", "fax", "settings" or what! Can somebody please give me instructions ASAP. Does anybody else find HP's tech support - if your warranty runs out - to be terribly POOR. I've been trying to get an answer to this question for about an hour which I think HP should at least answer simple questions in hopes that the customer will want to continue buying HP products of which they will purchase warranty plans. So my next question is > are we supposed to keep a tech support plan on a product for as long as it's in service - 5 years or longer??? The 1st question is VERY important to me if someone would please answer. The 2nd comment/question is more directed to HP!!! :-) Thank you very much!
NEVERMIND!!! I finally found the answer to my fax question and got it to print. As for how long HP expects a customer to pay for warranty plans and why they don't answer SIMPLE questions without them, please answer if you are a representative of HP b/c I'm really disheartened with your service. Hello , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! I see you're having issues with your print output. I would like to help! Do you have any issues making a copy? I'd recommend starting with a power reset. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

I'm on a mac and my printer won't print

I'm on a mac and it sends the document to my printer (Hp Photosmart 4680 all in one) but the printer won't print. My printer has been working just fine and now it won't print. Am I doing something wrong. This happened once before and I got frustrated with and left it for about 2 days, I had tried everything I could think of, unplugging for an hour or more, uninstalling and reinstalling, checked ink levels they were fine. Then all of a sudden it started to work again. I just turned on my computer and printer and amazingly it just started to print. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do? Or does anyone have any suggestions of what I may be doing wrong!

Do you have HP software installed (in your Applications folder)? If so and you got it from the printer CD, let's get rid of it:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
Now, run a Software Update.
Next, remove and re-install the printer in System Preferences, Print & Fax.
You do not need the software now since Snow Leopard has both print & scan drivers built-in. Scan from Preview or Image Capture apps. Scanning from the front panel of the printer does not yet work.
