10.4.4 updated - won't start

Hi,
well, i have a big problem. On wednesday i updatet my Mac os 10.4.3 to 10.4.4. After the setup i wanted to reboot the system. Well i failed because the system froze. So i turned the computer off with the I/O-Button on the backsite and restartet it.
Well, my problem is, that theres just the loading screen the whole time. No Mac os x with blue background. never. it's loading and loading and loading. i tried to repair the hdd with disk utility, but the first time it failed, the second time it was very quick, so i guess it's fully broken now lol. ****.
if i'll try to reinstall mac os x, there's no hdd. so i have to delete the whole partition. but there are important files on it.
can somebody help me? please! that would be great ^^.

I've found some new information. After reading this post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1583762&tstart=0 , I booted the machine again, and sure enough, I was able to see it on one of my other computers. I was able to login, and the machine is fine. The video is just dead, you can't even hook up an external monitor too it. I'm on the phone with Apple right now, letting them know, that this is not a coincidence, and I'll give further details as I get them.

IPod crashed during updater - Won't start, weird icon

I attached my iPod to my computer this morning to put more tunes on it. The computer recognized my unit, but told me I needed to update the software, so I did. After I clicked on Update, I was told to plug it in to an outlet to complete the update. Once I did that, the apple logo showed up and then I saw a new icon -briefly- that looked like it was directing me to connect to USB. I cannot find this icon in ANY troubleshooting or technical materials.
Now, my iPod won't start. I did the 5 "r" and tried to manually reset 8 times. It still won't start!!!

If you have a FireWire cable, you can try starting up your Mac in FireWire Target Disk Mode. (Hold the "t" key down at startup.) Then plug your Mac into hers with a 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable. Your hard drive should appear on her Desktop. Then you can use her Disk Utility to verify/repair your hard drive. Note that it would be best if she was running the same version of Mac OS X that you have installed on your computer. For example, you don't want to try to repair a Mac OS X 10.4.x hard drive from a Mac with Mac OS X 10.3.x.

CS2- Adobe Updater won't start

I have Photoshop CS2 and have recently started to use it after a long hiatus. When I start it, I get a message that Adobe Updater would not start, and something (the updater?) should be reinstalled. CS2 seems to be working perfectly. What should I do, besides ignoring that message?
Also, can someone tell me what the latest version of the Adobe Raw Converter is which is compatible with CS2?

Correct, they are NOT. You would need at least ACR 4.1, which does NOT run in CS2.

Correct again. Use the DNG Converter 5.3. It is a stand-alone application and you should always use the latest version.

Software Updater Won't start anymore

When Trying to update to 10.7.4 to 10.7.5 my systems seems to have broken
I can't start software Update anymore

Iphoto 9.4.2 update won't start on os x 10.7.5

Every time I open software update and I click on install updates, it begins the download for iPhoto 9.4.2 (currently the only update I have left), but then it stops and says that it is corrupt so it can't finish the download. I have attached an image of the exact message I get.
Any ideas on how to fix?
Steps taken:
-reset PRAM and SMC
-verify and repair disk permissions
-restarting computer

Found the answer thanks to another post on the Apple Forums. The iTunesHelper app in Login Items was an older location of an older iTunes which was somehow not replaced.
Replacing it was not entirely easy. I could remove it easily enough, but because the current iTunesHelper.app lives inside the iTunes.app bundle, you cannot navigate from System Preferences - Users&Groups - Login Items as it won't open iTunes.app to look for other apps inside.
So, I opened Terminal.app and typed
open /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS
this opens a Finder window. Here you find the correct iTunesHelper.app. That one can be dragged to the login items in System Preferences.

Ipod Touch 3.1.1 update won't start

Hi there,
I want to update my ipod touch from 3.0 to 3.1.1.
but i cant even start the update process.
It doesn't matter if I select "Just load update" or "load and install update.
I get the error code 504 after a second.
any ideas?

Yes today I tried plugging in my ipod touch and there was a update available.
The 3.1.1 update and I had a problem with it also,it started to update and then it came up error code and ipod was frozen after it almost updated but up came a error code.
First I left usb cable for ipod still plugged in while I shut down computer.
second make sure you are using the usb cable without the dock and disconnect now.
Third turn computer back on and turn off your firewall and plug usb cable back into ipod then computer and do a restore when it shows on the itunes.It might read something like complete restore and hit yes.
It erases everything on ipod but after restore it should update to latest version and all your syn lists will work as normal.
Mine restored and update worked and synced everything as usual without losing any data.
You might have itunes to open when ipod touch is plugged in but if it doesnt just open itunes and your device should show and start the restore.

I have followed the FAQ on this and have checked that indeed those are added to the list of exceptions on the firewall. I have a good internet connection. What else could be wrong?

BIOS update won't start on Satellite L40-14F

My laptop's been acting wonky so I downloaded the latest BIOS update, but when I opened it a little black window popped up for a brief second and then nothing happened.
I tried it multiple times, it did the same thing. I'm using Windows XP with SP3. I'd appreciate any help :(

Updates won't start downloading - get an MSN Search box instead

new computer....trying to update softward after installing ipod mini with my original disk. updates will not begin but i get a very small msn search box instead. we have no spyware or viruses according to my security software.

System recovery worked,hp update won't start

I did a system recovery on a presario cq60 note book it worked fine ,but now when I try to run hp update nothing comes up I checked the c: drive and the files are there but I can't run it. How can I check if the driver is ok.

Did you download the new iTunes update that was also released this afternoon? That might be the problem. The new iTunes update came out today as well as the new iOS 7 update and if you haven't downloaded the new iTunes update it may be a compatibility problem so if you didn't, first update to the new iTunes and try again.

IWeb won't start after update

I just ran a bunch of system updates and now iWeb won't start. I reinstalled iLife'06 from the DVD and rebooted, but no luck. I have also repaired permissions and rebooted. I just get one bounce in the Dock and this message in the iWeb.crash.log:

Sounds like something major is missing from iWeb or from the iLife install.
If you didn't delete iWeb and the install package receipts from your computer before reinstalling iLife, iWeb would have only been updated. If it was corrupted before the update, the problem would not have been fixed by a reinstall.
Backup your domain file before doing anything else! It's in username/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Put a copy in a safe place.
Then try deleting everything to do with iWeb from your computer, going to drivename/Library/Receipts and deleting all the iWeb package receipts, empty the trash.
Reinstall iWeb.

Firefox update failed, so I re-installed. Now firefox won't start up at all?

So I ran firefox, and it was updating. While updating, firefox crashed for no apparent reason so I had to close it. Afterwards, every time I tried to start up firefox, it gave me the update failed error, followed by a crash less than a second later. Firmware update progress bar appears and computer won't start up

Hi,
I am on OS X 10.6 (the latest developer build, whose build number I can't remember and can't look up because my computer won't start up) and this morning when I tried to start up my computer, it chimed, the apple appeared but then a grey progress bar (like the one that appears during a firmware update) appeared at the bottom of the screen along with the customary spinner. This progress bar didn't update and after 10-ish seconds, it disappeared and left just the spinner. I left the computer in this state for 4 hours and nothing happened. It still starts up in single user mode (but I can't seem to get Open Firmware mode to load) and it starts Windows XP on another partition of my main HD.
When I start it in verbose mode, it says that my catalog B-tree has keys out of order and it is unable to repair them. Also, I get an error message from launchctl: "Bug: launchctl.c:2033 (23930):17: auditquickstart() == 0". Then later on it tells me to convert a few system plist files to launchd (all in the /etc/mach_init.d/ folder). The very last line says "launch_msg(): Socket is not connected".
I would rather not re-install the system, but if I have to, I guess I will. I appreciate any light that anyone can shed on this problem.

Yes, they (the third-party utilities) both come on bootable DVD's. As I mentioned, since Snow Leopard was just released in its final version, the developers may be in the process of releasing updates.
Your situation is likely to be a case where the data corruption issue already existed before installing Snow Leopard, and the installation process made the problem more apparent (because something critical was installed where it was affected by the data issue).
It is a good idea to run +Repair Disk+ in Disk Utility on the startup volume before installing a major system update. Actually, I do it before any system-level update.
You should also have a backup (at least of your personal data if not the entire volume), in case something bad happens during a major system upgrade. If you were using Time Machine, the easiest recovery would be to reformat the internal drive and use the Time Machine complete volume restore utility to restore the volume back to the date/time state just before you installed Snow Leopard. Then, after restarting from that restored volume to make sure everything is working, start up from the Snow Leopard installation disc, run Disk Utility and use +Repair Disk+ (just to be sure), and run the upgrade to Snow Leopard again.
If you have a backup of at least your personal data, you may want to reformat the internal drive, install Snow Leopard and bundled apps, install your third-party apps from their original sources, update everything that needs updating, and restore your personal data.
If you don't have a backup, the best bet is to try either DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro. DiskWarrior is very specialized into repairing this type of data problem. TechTool Pro has similar capability, but it is a more general tool with other features.

Eclipse IDE won't start anymore after most recent security update

Hello everybody,
after today's security update the Eclipse IDE won't start anymore on my system, I just receive the following error message:
A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) must be available in order to run Eclipse.
No Java virtual machine was found after searching the following locations: /Applications/eclipse/Eclipse.app/Contents/MacOS/jre/bin/
java

Java is installed and Eclipse ran smoothly until I upgraded. Other Java programs like Visual Paradigm still work without problems.
Does anybody have an idea what I can do about this? I have already tried repairing permissions, to no avail.

I have narrowed down the problem even more:
Obviously system path variables are not set anymore on my system for UNIX processes that are started in background, whereas starting applications from terminal using the open command ('open Gimp.app' for instance) still works without any problems.
Any ideas where to change this behaviour?
