1006 an utter piece of garbage

Needed to get a new phone, was on a low budget. Bought a 1006 from my local MetroPCS dealer... I am just utterly dissapointed in Nokia with this phone.
Pain in the A** to save a contact that has called you if you havent called them (had to show someone at metro). You can not select the call, push options and save. It more like, find the call, go to options then EDIT, THEN save to save a new number that you have not called.
If I miss 2 calls the screen goes white up to the time (above is fine) and will NOT go away until you pull out the battery. When the screen is white you CAN NOT turn the phone off unless you pull the battery.
the phone is turned on and it LOOKS like you are ready to use the phone, you are NOT. Pushing contacts only results in "Contacts Not Ready" for atleast 2 minutes after the phone is on.
My biggest regret is that i Didn't have a few hundred dollars to buy a different phone. I have owned at least 6 Nokia phones and have never been disappointed until now. Even the cheapest nokia phone had worked like a charm until this was released.
Speaking to metroPCS and SHOWING them the problems with this phone have only resulted in them telling me to take it to the local warranty center in town for MetroPCS.. I do not want this phone nor even replaced why would I want another defective again? This only shows me that you do not take the same care in the lower end models of your phones that you used to and have reserved quality for only phones over a few hundred dollars.
So I am now out $100 for this phone. My next thought is to just beam it at the head of the next homeless person that tries to harass me for a dollar or a cigarette when im in downtown. a Projectile, thats about all this hunk of garbage is good for.
Utterly disappointed.

thats just really sad to assume i'm some kind of idiot that made a poor choice. This phone along with others that own this very same model have nearly the same issues. this is the first nokia product that i am utterly disappointed in. usualy when you play with the phone in the store you arent aware of the problems it has. These problems did not start until a week after I bought it. Imposing that I should have read up on the phone before i bought it is really an insult considering there were no issues with the display model nor did my issues appear until a week after I owned the phone. it's MetroPCS there is NO "Exchange" nor a refund. You are stuck with what you bought. 4 out of the 6 nokia's I have owned have all been the cheapest models they make and NONE EVER have had ANY issues like these. Again this being the lowest model nokia makes so now again 4 out of 6 i have owned and this has been the most problematic pice of garbage I own (sadly to admit). Not to mention a moderator removed from my post above that every phone in the world will allow you to send a text message when you have the contact selected and hit "options" but this phone.

  • Is Motion a total piece of garbage?

    What do you think guys?
Even when things are running well, there's always some weird glitch or system hang that makes this thing practicly unusable. Like continuous playback, even after the spacebar is hit or the mouse is clicked or the escape button is hit and I have to force quit. Sometimes it won't let me delete layers and I have to quit. Sometimes it won't let me copy layers, between projects and otherwise, and I have to quit. And gosh darn it, sometimes it just up and quits on its own.
There are a limited set of key shortcuts for navigating the timeline (1 frame, 10 frames, next and previous markers, jump to in/out point, jump to begining/end of project, that's it) No zoom in/out (moving the mouse pointer back and forth between that little slider is getting old), no jump to next edit, a hand tool for the timeline would be useful, no way to reliably go to the begining/end of a layer without using the mouse and shift key, and that mini timeline bar below the canvas is useless if your project is longer than a few minutes. Why didn't they just port over the navigation scheme from FCP and have a customizable shortcut layout and make it easy on everyone?
Why doesn't it copy and paste layers directly to where the playhead is, instead of where the layer was copied from? It seems like there is a lot of dragging and dropping necessary to make this program work and I don't know how the rest of you feel, but that's not really how I work.
No copying digits in the inspector to the clipboard, no way to reliably synch graphics to audio because of either audio or frame drop, and now I'm having a synch issue because Motion is incapable of a 23.976 fps frame rate, only 23.98.
This program has the potential to be a really great tool and I know that this is only the second version, but Apple has a bit of a problem with usablility, in my opinion. It seems like they want you to use their products a certain way and if you deviate from that, you will run into problems. There should be at least 3 different ways to do the same thing, like in Photoshop or even FCP for that matter. A lot of their interface design is dumbed down in favor of using a one button mouse all of the time instead of giving users options (context menus anyone?). Really, they should be jacking sucessful design concepts and packing them into every product they make instead of trying to reinvent the wheel every time. Anyone try and use Soundtrack Pro?
Oh, and if anyone has any answers to the issues I'm having in the first three paragraphs, any feedback would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I see your point, but the tool is still very useful
to me. It's hardly a piece of garbage. I still use
After Effects 10% of the time, but Motion with it's
quirks has become my tool of choice for most stuff
    that FCP can't handle.
Maybe I just don't enjoy quirky software. I like it when it works the same every time, rather than trying to figure out what set of operations I just performed produced the glitch I have to deal with now, but thats's just me.
Here is one point that I don't understand:
I'm having a synch issue because Motion is
incapable of a 23.976 fps frame rate, only 23.98.
What kind of work are you doing where this causes the
sync to get messed up? By my math, your sequence
would have to be nearly an hour long before the
    difference would even express itself.
I have a five act doc that was shot in 24p DV, up-resed to HD at 23.976 fps and then down-resed to NTSC quicktime files at the same frame rate to be used as reference for the lower thirds I am creating. The acts range in length from 9 minutes to 30 minutes. The thing is that all they consist of is the base reference movie layer and either 1 text layer or 1 text layer, one still and one mask. Everything synchs up perfectly in Motion, but when I output just the lower thirds with alpha and then drop them into FCP and place them over the same reference movie I used in Motion, which is what is going to happen when the lower thirds are encorporated into the actual upres, the lower thirds don't synch. Specificly, one title takes place at 00:20:09:07 in Motion. That's 1809 seconds, 7 frames. At 23.98 fps that's 43386.82 frames. At 23.976 that's 43379.584 frames, a difference of roughly 7 frames, which means the lower thirds at 23.98 fps is going to shift forward 7 frames, which is about what I've been seeing in FCP. The titles occur later than they should.
The reason the project files are so long is because they have to be. I'm just doing the lower thirds and then handing off the output to someone else to be placed into the final output. There are at least 175-200 titles that need to be in synch and chopping it up and doing it manually after my output is a bit of a headache, about a days worth.
    I don't
believe Motion was intended for editing long
sequences and this could be part of your problem.
Good to know, but everything I've read and heard has led me to belive this was appropriate for longer projects. Guess I was wrong.
I break my Motion projects into small pieces and
reassemble them in FCP. Smaller sequences are easier
for Motion to manage since it uses RAM to cache your
footage. Perhaps some of your freezing problems are
    related to loading long sequences.
Not long sequences. One base reference layer and many small (3-5 sec) text animations. The thing is that Motion will behave itself for a fair amount of time, but then I will give me weird problems for a half and hour. Obviously, I need a better machine (don't we all), but I've used Motion on newer dual processor G5's with a lot of RAM and decent GPU, and it still crashes sporatically. Can't wait for Motion 3.
    Thanks for caring:)

  • This Thing is a Frustrating Piece of Garbage...

...and Apple's user manual isn't a whole lot of help.
So now that I've got your attention, I hope I can get some help.
I bought an iPod Nano as my first mp3 player because of Apple's reputation for intuitive and kluge-free operation, but so far this has been a frustrating and disappointing experience.
Some of the issues I'm having with this thing:
    1) I have a library of mp3 files on my computer, nicely arranged in folders. I import those folders into iTunes and synch to the Nano. Instead of having these files nicely organized on the Nano, I end up with a multiplicity of folders (i.e. instead of a "Beatles" folder I have folders named "Beatles", "Beatles, The", and "The Beatles" with their contents seemingly strewn randomly among them. Yeah, that makes individual songs REAL easy to find.
    2) Along similar lines, this overly-helpful little monster decides to strew album contents among folders that it creates on its own. For instance, I end up with three Flogging Molly albums in the "Flogging Molly" folder, but then I end up with a separate "Flogging Molly / Lucinda Williams" folder for one individual song that has a guest artist involved. So not only does this stupid thing scatter the contents, I can't listen to the album in its intended order because the little Nazi is dictating otherwise. ***?
    3) I was hoping to make use of the handy video feature. But I can't get the frigging video files to download to my computer. Yes, I tried using the "Help" menu and yes, I read the frigging manual. It tells me I need to "...click iPod nano in the device list and click the Summary tab". I'd be happy to do so but I can find no "device list", nor is there any such thing as a Summary tab on my iTunes menu. I see my iPod listed under "Devices" in the column on the left side of the screen, but the only options I have associated with that is to expand it to show individual folders for Music, Movies, and TV Shows. The manual states that, alternately, I can go to "My Computer" where I can see that the iPod is treated as an external hard drive. Except that it isn't. Yes, it's plugged into an active USB port, and yes, iTunes is on. But my computer doesn't display the nano as an external drive, whereas it DOES display my 500 gB external hard drive when I attach it to the same USB port.
    4) My displeasure doesn't end with the nano. iTunes is similarly an anger-inducing little dictator of an application. I've checked the "Sync only checked songs and videos" box and then clicked the "Sync" tab at the bottom right of the window several times, yet my nano is loaded with files that I DON'T WANT LOADED on it. Again, I've read the manual and am pretty certain that I'm doing this right, with the possible exception that the manual states I need to click on the "apply" button. Am I wrong in assuming that the "sync" button is the "apply" button, because there for **** sure isn't anything labelled "apply" anywhere on the screen or in the drop downs.
So if you've gathered that I'm less than enchanted, you're quite right. I hope someone at Apple reads this and has a good, hard look at these issues, because at this point I'm regretting spending a lot more for an Apple product because of their reputation, only to find out that my music and videos are being held captive by an electronic Kim Jong-il. And hopefully someone here can help me figure out how to use this lovely-but-aggravating little monster.
    Thanks!

I ended up checking the "Manually manage music and videos" box under "options" on the "Summary" page.
Then I clicked on the arrow to the left of my iPod in the left column, and clicked on "Music".
Next, I found the files I wanted to remove. Say, for instance, I wanted to get rid of all the "Rage Against the Machine" files- clicked on the topmost file to highlight it, held down the shift key, clicked on the bottommost file so that all of the "Rage Against the Machine" files were highlighted, then right clicked to bring up the menu and clicked on "Delete". When the "Are you sure you want to remove these?" window showed up I clicked on "Remove". Now all of these songs are gone from the nano but are still in my iTunes files.
Similarly, I looked in the "Artist" colum and found songs that had variations on artist names. So for instance I went through all the Beatles tunes and found the songs listing the artist as "Beatles, The". Clicked on each of those songs one at a time to highlight each one, right clicked to bring up "Get Info", clicked on the "Info" tab, and changed the artist name simply to "Beatles" and clicked on "OK".
Finally I clicked on the "eject" icon just to the right of the iPod name. After a brief sync it was Ok to remove the iPod. And now my music files are crunched down into individual files, and the stuff I don't want isn't on the nano.

  • Seething with venom for Adobe's garbage CS4 suite, ignoring of Mac platform

I just purchased a Macbook Pro in November after 15 yrs on
Windows. In all my years, I've never had a fraction of the problems
with Adobe products that I have since I got this Mac. Is Adobe
simply not that INTERESTED in making their products perform well on
the Mac side? I was under the delusion when I crossgraded that Mac
was the preferred platform of designers for good reasons. But since
I spend 100% of my day in some Adobe app or another, I realize that
I am actually LESS efficient (and WAY more angry and frustrated)
because of all the lagginess, bugginess, and unexpected shutdowns.
Does it make more sense to crossgrade BACK to Windows??
Fireworks is so frustratingly buggy that it takes me twice as long
to do anything; Acrobat bombs EVERY TIME I close a file, and
Contribute is a totally unusable piece of garbage now. I have never
been so angry at a software company, and that INCLUDES
    Quark!!!!!!

I am 100% with you. Here's a list of problems, many of which should not exist in the first place...
    A. Photoshop webshow moved to Bridge, where it simply does not create useable code...this ends a fairly decent webshow that existed INSIDE of photoshop where it BELONGED, and where it actually WORKED.
    B. Premiere does NOT export QT HD files. SD yes, HD forget it. This seems to be something Adobe wont pay Apple for, so...Premiere also has NO autodetect of scenes, miniscule amount of transitions and effects (someone devoted an entire post to the difference between the mac and PC versions)and a mind-bogglingly terrible file management system that would ruin everything even if the other problems didnt exist.
    C. Encore has the worst most dated DVD templates, takes a lfietime to encode, and then crashes when its time to burn a DVD. iDVD doesnt have this problem on the same computer, mine. Encore just flat out doesnt work.
    D. Five minutes ago, I was trying to export out of After Effects. It tells me it prefers that I render out through the Adobe Media Encoder. I have the composition in the render queue, but it tells me I need something in the queue to render. Classic bozoware again. After Effects was one of the programs I trusted the most, but I am starting to worry, and, frankly, the backgrounds, and included visual effects are nothing compared to Combustion and Motion even if the layer controls are more extensive. They added basically nothing since CS3.
What's most infuriating is that I demoed these as CS3 versions, except Premiere, which I mistakenly thought HAD to be as good as Apple's offerings.
Adobe should be flat out embarassed, and had I discovered this earlier, BH would have given me a refund. I think Adobe should give a free upgrade to CS5 for CS4 purchasers. If I could I would take the money I wasted on this software and run straight to FCS, which I will get to eventually.
    D. Flash is the only thing Adobe has that's worthwhile, and they're trying hard to wreck Photoshop. They claim flash CS5 will author for iphone, but I seriously doubt anythign they claim. Adobe is run like its manager ran Fremont real estate, into the ground. It's like the entire company was on vacation and they paid the managers to relabel and screw up CS3. Terrible company. You say anything in the forums and its all your fault.
Funny how Ableton Live, Reason, Arkaos, and all the apple products work fine, but Adobe is the one that fails, and yet its my system's fault. All talk no delivery.

  • Apple store selling garbage accessories.

Third party accessory, www.twelvesouth.com/support site provides NO support info, contact or item page. Did anyone else buy the High rise Deluxe charger stand? I paid $60.00 at Apple store and this is a piece of garbage!

So return it and get your money back.  It's not an Apple product, so I'm not sure why you're complaining on an Apple forum, especially one intended for user-to-user technical assistance.
If you buy a DVD player at Best Buy, and it's a low quality DVD player, is that Best Buy's fault?  Nope.  Best Buy is just the merchant.  It's no more their fault that the DVD player is sub-par than it is Target's or Wal-Mart's or Fry's, etc.

  • My Internet Connection Dropping Issues...

I too am having the occasional Internet connection dropping issues.  Phone and TV continue to work.
Since I had Fios installed last November I am on my third ONT and 2nd router.  When I called in my latest drop yesterday the call center person told me I had a hardware issue because my computer had a valid IP address assigned.  I tried to teach her something about DHCP but she would not listen to me.  I asked her to please reboot the ONT and she refused because "nothing was indicating a problem with it".  Whatever...
Each time the Internet goes out the router acts fat and happy.  I have full green on WAN Coax, and strangely enough, a flashing green Internet activity indicator.  Logging into the router shows that I am MOCA connected and assigned a WAN IP address.  But I can't get out past the router at all.  On the event that led to me getting a replacement router the lady said she could talk to the ONT just fine, but not the router.  We reset the router and ONT port numerous times and the connection finally came back up.
I am not sure of the protocol between the ONT and router, but I think the ONT is keeping enough signal going to make the router "think" its happy, but then the ONT is not passing packets at some point.  After yesterdays call and the refusal to reset the ONT I just hung up on her and reset it myself.  Of course everything started working just fine...like I thought it would.
So what is the issue here?  Is MOCA a mess?  Is an Ethernet connection to the ONT better?  I am utterly disgusted with this miserable system and can't afford to continue having these outages.
I should also add the other wonderful features I have seen.  When I tried to powercycle the *new* router yesterday it decided to dump its entire config including my port forwarding.  Nice...  And I have given up using wireless because if I set the router for WPA it locks up so hard that it takes a master reset to get going again.
Anyone have some advice on getting this system stable?

I would try using a non-verizon router.  I used the Netgear router and it fixed my problem.  The Verizon router seem to be pieces of garbage and they over-hear.

  • The more they see, the more they ask for.

The iPhone failed to fill the void in my life. I want a refund.
I talked to one of those "Geniuses" at the Apple store and I complained to him, "after spending so much of my money on this thing, and basically breaking up my marriage, you'd think that it would have all the features that my lonely heart thinks it needs!"
And you know what he told me? He said, "instead of being an ungrateful sheep and jumping off the bridge along with everyone else, maybe you should have done some more research or saved your money until the 'real iPhone' comes out, you know, the one where they fix all the bugs after the initial wave of idiots impress their friends with how much money they managed to spend."
After standing there with my mouth open for about 10 minutes in utter shock...I went home. 'Cause he was right. He had me.
    Thanks, Steve.

I'm getting rid of my iPhone.
All it has done is brought me trouble. When I'm at work, my boss always yells at me because I'm always checking to make sure all my settings on my iPhone are perfect, because if they're not perfect, my life will fall apart. The customers...I'm sorry, I mean "guests," have complained, but I don't care, I have an iPhone, and they don't which means I'm better than they are. 'Cause they don't have an iPhone. Worthless.
I'm thinking there's no hope for my wife and I to get back together. I can't answer her or anyone else's phone call when I'm out. What if I have it stolen when I pull it out in public? Some piece of garbage that isn't worthy of buying an iPhone rips it out of my hand? I would die. I would literally die without my iPhone. Please don't call me, anyone. I can't afford to have it stolen. The time between when it would be taken from me and the time when I'd either get the same one back or a new one would be too long for me to wait, even if I got one the same day. I can't be without it. What if there's a restaurant I want to look up on the fly? I would look like an idiot if I ask someone on the street if they know of a good place to grab a bite to eat and they pulled out their own iPhone. I would walk away immediately, just mortified.
    No, I change my mind, I can't sell it. I can't.
Please, God, don't let anything happen to it, please. It's almost time for me to buy more cleaner for the glass cover. I need something stronger but not too abrasive. I can't have it be dirty. I don't want to be dirty any more. No more impurity in my life. Just iPhone. The iPhone, honestly, is the embodiment of purity. All it wants to do is serve you and make your life easier. How beautiful is that?
No one at work gets it. My wife didn't get it.
That's why I've started to phase people out of my life that just don't understand. I can't be around these people. Just me and the iPhone. That's all I need in this life. Just as long as I have my iPhone, I'll be happy. Otherwise, why live? What's the point? I hate to say it, but I kinda feel sorry for people that don't have one. They aren't worthy, otherwise they'd have one, you know what I mean? Can't afford it? You don't want it bad enough. That's it. Call me when you're worthy. Maybe never 'cause my phone's not ringing, is it?

  • More uselessness from Blackberry and the pathetic Q10

Yes, another day, another piece of garbage from the Q10. Now, it won't transfer Calendar engagements from Outlook in box to the Calendar on the phone. (But it will from Hotmail.) Of course it won't do it the other way at all. Silly of me to think you might be out on a business trip, put an appointment in your phone and want to synch it with your PC. I mean, whoever wants to do that? Still, it's par for the course: along with LInk destroying contacts and muddling them up (5 times - so I've uninstalled it and use share - see above), keyboard failure (twice), sending texts and e-mails in mid-message because the send button is a) in the wrong place and b) far too sensitive, screen response flop-outs on a regular basis, etc etc etc. They've absolutely earned some kind of award for producing the worst phone on the market, and then of course running away and hiding when it goes wrong. Blackberry really should get out of making mobiles and go and do something useful, like running a sewage farm. They'd have a head start because they'd already be very familiar with the nature of the product.

Wrong. It is an official BlackBerry site.

Scroll up. I never said EE was the source of your problem. They are the source of your solution. Big difference.
EE is your initial contact for all technical support with hardware and software related to your BlackBerry. It's the official support path you have in place. If your Ford or Mercedes has faults, you contact the deal, not some office in Detroit or Stuttgart.  This might not be a familar concept to you, but it is how it works and it is what you are paying for. I don't understand why you'd argue that you won't use it. Unless you're only here to rant?

Now it won't. Nothing has changed, but it won't. It's perfectly obvious it's a Blackberry fault as nothing else has changed and the mail with appointment attachment is delivered appropriately. So: any ideas?
Great, thank you for this. Finally.
    It appears to save, good.
But doesn't save. When you say it doesn't save, is this because you do not then see this newly saved calendar entry in your calendar?
Open your calendar. Swipe down from the top to > Manage.

Yes, I have ideas. Please answer that question for me.

  • Pocketmac sync stalls

I recently installed Leopard on my Mac and since then each time I have tried to sync my Blackberry with my Mac the sync process stalls during 'synchronizing calendar'. It is set up to sync with my iCal and experienced no problems prior to installation of Leopard. I have installed the latest version of PocketMac SyncManager and the drivers. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Same here with a Pearl (8100), with the latest firmware updates (4.2.1.107) from the carrier (t-mobile). I installed and reinstalled in various ways the new PocketMacForBlackBerry4.1.25.dmg for Mac OS X, and it always stalls.
This is such a piece of garbage software that it's unbelievable it even came out the door.
The precious version would not only take a while to sync, it would saturate the CPU while doing so.
This version does not saturate the CPU, however, has the following bugs:
    -  it does not sync at all, even leaving the sync overnight
    -  when the BB is connected the program will not even start properly. the icon bounces in the dock as if it's coming up, but it never does. only after removing the BB that it comes up
    - it crashes very often
I even tried including some tips I found about removing the driver files in /System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSB* before reinstalling the new driver (DriverUpdate.3.1.3B.dmg).
This is utterly frustrating, as I must keep my addressbook and the BB all synced up at all times!
Even as I hear that the iphone is not great for email, I am considering switching due to this *&#@*&@! software.
Anyone has any solutions for this?

  • Remote for B540 AIO

    Hi all,
I purchased a B540 AIO last month. But I still could not figure out what is the remote for. The remote model is RC2604327. The configuration number for the PC is 57311751. The remote doesn't seem like working with the PC at all.
I called the tech support, and was told that the remote is supposed to work with TV tuner only. Since my PC doesn't have TV tuner, so it won't work. But I simply could not understand, why Lenovo send me a remote in the package that they know it won't work. And eventually it's piece of garbage that I can't throw into trash can for environmental reason. Lenovo is still selling the same PC with the same remote in configuration. Detail could be found at http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?...
Anyway, all these don't sound reasonable to me. I am wondering, is it true? Or actually I got a defective IR remote?
    Thanks,
    -Shane

    hi faint2die,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
The tech support representative is right, the remote control model # RC2604327 is for the TV Tuner (see 23 of User's Guide on how it works - also, the TV tuner is an add-in for B540 selected models).
If you're not planning on getting a TV Tuner add-in, you can try to sell it on ebay for an extra $$.
    Cheers,
    neokenchi

  • IPhone 5s and the Otterbox Defender Series

I had, and have still an Apple iPhone 5s. I purchased the Otter Box Defender Series for the phone for the same day. I liked both the phone and the box with the belt clip. About 6 weeks into owning the pair. I went to take the iPhone (in Case) off my belt. The clip on the belt broke (actually a retaining clip for the phone broke) BAM! there goes my phone about 3 feet onto my kitchen floor! I'm like Oh No! I pick up the phone and see no damages at all! Thank God for the Otter Box. But then I had to carry the phone around like a brick in my hand which was a pain in the wazoo! I purchased both items at my local AT&T Store. So 1+1=2, I figured I would just take my phone and otter box clip into the store and get a new otter box (I paid $50.00) for it. My local AT&T Store has been gret they (and Apple deserve i reviews in my mind. However, when I took it in the AT&T Rep told me they do not service or replace Otter Box because it is a third party contract situation. Then they advised meme how to get the Otter Box replaced. Every timeI put in the Web address I would get a prompt saying invsalid address try again" I'm kind patient, so I would try again every oher day to contact OtterBox with no results. This all started in March 2014. I went online and saw the diagrams nd instructions on how to send the otterbox back for replacement. At the time I did not have a printer so I drew the outlines as they directed. Now were into about July and I'm still carrying my brick around in my pocket. Finally AT&T helps me again and gives me a number to call otterbox. I did they emailed me back and told had some information missing on the form. I looked at the 6 photo's I took of the phone, otter box brokrn clip and all identifyers and said no way, all the information is there! I do not get rude with the reps they are doing the best they can and normaly it is excellent.. I told them I used to place orders and do diagrams and documents daily at my career and I knew everything was right! Finally they agreed to send me the otterbox.  So I carried the brick around again waiting and no Otterbox in the mail yet. I finally got tired of carrying the big bulky box and took it off. Leaving my slender and slick phone exposed to danger. Well as luck ould have it and still no box! in October- remember this started in March. I'm laying down on my bed and had soaked my feet in about 2" of water because I have "Plantar Faciitius" or basically torn tendons that don't heal from being in the Martial Arts for several years and bein an active competitor. I turned the cover over, heard plunk and said- that's right OH NO!! within 5 seconds I had the phone out of the water and was drying it off. It was dead. CRAP! If OtterBox had gotten off their butts maybe this would not have happened! So I try the phone again I get a glimpse of my screen then nothing. A friend told me put it in rice. So I did, I saw a little more of the screen and had hope .So I buried it in rice againfor two days. recharged it and SHAZAM! it worked! Yay for rice! The phone was able to make calls, text, do all it's funtions for about for days the n I went to sync it with iTunes. The screen froze with a lighting cord a dash and and arrow on the screen and that ended the iPhone 5s life. And I'm out $500-600.00! Still no otter box, so I went into a two year contract and got a Samsung GalaxyS4. Nice phone but somewhat more complicated than my iPhone, especially because it came with NO instruction manual and all the icons look different! So I was told about a shop in my city where they repair iphones. I took the phone there, a young petite Asian lady told me "two days", I said two days and  it will be fixed? She said like new! So here it is November 2, she had to order a chip from China but assured me it wold be as good as new this coming week. Any extra charge? No! Halleluhah. for $90.00 I get my iPhone 5s back with a guarantee. Still no Otterbox. So a friend at AT&T told me when I asked sbout the best box to cover a phone and they told me the "LifeProof" when I heard it was water resistant I said that's what I need! But I decided to investigate it on the net. and found this forum. So tell me is the LifeProof the one or not because half seem aggravated and half satisfied. It was priced high nut I found a lower cost outlet. Thumbs up or thumbs down gang? Thank you for letting me tell my story. MjS. p.s still not otterbox, although they gave me a confirmation number about a week and a half ago.   ....Wait til you hear the run around with the Behind The Head Blue Tooth that would not sync, was replaced by another at no cost, but the other cuts out and no one can hear me talk- so they said send both back we will send another. Forget it, three times from the UK to the US ain't woth it. Nice people great design, piece of garbage devise. thumbs down.

  • Wifi connection issues with Home Hub 5

Hi can any body help because I am starting to get very frustrated with the Home Hub 5 and it's wireless connection.
infinity 2 was installed at my house in the beginning of September, everything worked Ok for three weeks then for no apparent reason the hub kicked out all of my wireless devices (phones, kids iPods, tablets etc) at 6:45 one morning. When I got home from work I rang BT and was told to perform a Pin reset. This seemed to work but less tham 48 hours later at exactly the same time in the morning the hub kicked out all of my devices again, this time I just pressed the restart button on the top of the hub and everything reconnected but the Wifi range within my house had dropped. A few days later the hub kicked all my devices out again (each time it has done this the light on the hub has remained blue showing it is supposedly working OK)
One evening this week the hub of its own accord cycled through all the colours of lights indicating problems and that it was restarting. Today at 10:15 the hub kicked all my Wifi devices out again. I have contacted BT every time this has happened and told them about the poor range of the Wifi signal.
I do not want to be restarting/resetting my Hub every couple of weeks i need a permanent solution.
One of the reasons I switched from TalkTalk to BT when fibre became available was the fact that the Home Hub 5 was supposed to be the best provided router by any of the networks, being the only one that is an AC class router. The thing costs £130 if you want to by one. Quite frankly the £60 TP-Link dual band router I bought when I was with TalkTalk had a better range and was more stable. I would switch back to that if I knew BT's router settings (but they like to keep that a secret)
I really am beginning to regret switching from TalkTalk. Please someone restore my faith in BT.
Sorry for the lengthy rant but I hope you can understand why I've ranted for so long.
    Nick

    Hi imjolly
Sorry its taken a while to reply to your post.
I wanted to try BT's latest attempt at a solution before i tried your idea.
Since your reply the Home Hub 5 has dropped the Wifi connection to my devices another three times.
The second time less than 30hours after BT's so called fix, which was to make sure the 5Ghz channel was not syncing with the 2.4Ghz channel. Tonight it went again and BT's response was to take the router out of smart channel selection and manually select channel 9,6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 36,40,44 or 48 on 5Ghz. Well I havent even bothered with that, if the prats at BT would look at their records they would see they have already suggested that.
This HH5 is the most unreliable piece of garbage i have ever had the misfortune to use. WHY OH WHY did I leave TalkTalk
I have tonight tried your solution. Fingers crossed that this works.

  • Windows 7 won't allow me access to some of my files and folders

I installed a new copy of Windows 7 Professional SP1 on a new PC several months ago. I then restored my documents from a backup made on my old XP system. Ever since installation, I have had problems with Windows denying me access to some of my files
and folders. I have full administrative rights on the machine. The various problems I've had, and steps I've taken to resolve them are:
    1. Try to open a file and get a message telling me I need permission from Steve to open this file. I am Steve.
2.Try to open a file and get a message telling me I don't have permission to open it, but click this button to get permanent permission. I click the button, but still don't have permission.
    3. I then started opening the security settings for individual files and setting myself to have full access, and as the owner. This worked for individual files.
    4. I then tried setting the same security settings for entire folders. This didn't work and didn't improve anything.
    5. I tried setting the security settings so that Administrators owned the files/folders (I am an administrator). This also didn't achieve anything.
    6. After several months and still getting these messages, I got sick of trying to overcome them and decided to apply these security settings to my entire C: drive. I set myself to have full access and to be the owner of the C: root directory and all sub-objects.
    7. I inserted my Windows installation disk and tried to run the System Repair. It told me that System Repair was not compatible with the version of Windows I was running! WTF???
Not only did setting permissions for the entire C: drive not help me, it has made matters a WHOLE lot worse. I now don't have permission to open almost all my files/folders. Most applications I try to run (Word, Excel, etc.) either tell me they can't open
a file or let me open and edit it, then tell me I don't have permission to save to that location. When I press the Send/Receive button in Outlook, it now tells me I don't have permission to perform that action. I've tried going back to a restore point before
I made this change, but that didn't change anything either.
This problem has been driving me insane for months and now my PC is almost completely unusable and I'm considering a disk format and re-install Windows. When I initially installed it, so many problems came up in the first few weeks that I'm very reluctant
to go through this procedure again. I spent hours and hours trawling the web looking for solutions to things that didn't work.
Does anyone have any good news for me? Because as far as I'm concerned, Windows 7 is so far a piece of garbage.

    Hi Steve1904,
So you have use the backup and Restore to restore your files from Windows XP to Windows 7 directly?
This should be considered not work.
If you would like to transfer files between Windows XP and Windows 7, you need another tool called Windows Easy Transfer.
See the article below if you would like to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7:
Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7
If possible, follow the steps there, then things should be OK.
    Best regards

  • Is Nokia ready for high end market?

It is the time of smartphones.  With the introduction of 3G, distance and speed are not a barrier at all.  Prediction is that, we will see a shift from laptop to smartphones, something we experienced a few years ago when laptop replaced desktops. So, is Nokia really ready for this competitve market?  I believe they are still not ready looking at the way they support N series and E series.
My horror story started the day I purchased my N96, exactly 4 months back.   I have been watching the developments of N95 and wanted to own one.  Nokia released N96 by the time I made my decision.  The problem started when I started seeing low memory errors.  To my surprise, I noticed that Nokia uses phone memory for messages and N-gauge.  Configuring "mass memory" as the storage for messages didn't solve the problem completely as it failed to move all messagesI searched for some file explorer kind of applications to explore and clean phone memory.  I wish if Nokia had one.  The solution given to me by Nokia support was to reset the phone.  And, that cleared all data from my phone.  So, here are a list of my pain points
    - Does Nokia expect us to reset phone for every small issues.  Note that, these are not just phones, but smart phones.  More than contacts, I have my personal data, bookmarks, configurations, rss feeds, video feeds, radio stations, podcasts, GPS locations, blogging tools, applications etc. installed.  Getting back the phone in the same state will take days after a hard reset.  Do I agree if my laptop service center tells me that they have to format my harddisk everytime I take my laptop for servicing? Nokia Care's standard answer is to update the firmware (though I have the latest firmware) and reset the phone for any issues.  I only wish if Nokia trained their technicians to handle smartphones.
    - N96 reboots when I use GPS 50% of the times (when you use it for longer duration either with google map or Nokia map or sports tracker)
    - Phone hangs when you move from wifi hotspot to other places while wifi scan is going on (I don't see this issue after upgrading to 12.043)
    - There is no way to restart the phone when the phone hangs.  You have to take out the battery and put it back.
    - I get disconnected frequently when I'm on long calls.  Though I can blame my network provider, I know its not completely because of them.  My N70 doesn't have this problem.
    - I have been having a long battle with Nokia support and bluetooth issues.  I tried to use Motorola HT820 headset with this phone.  Phone hangs or reboots 90% time when I turn on the headset.  Nokia's standard answer is that Motorola HT820 is not a supported accessory.  I agree, but is it acceptable if phone reboots or hangs when I tried to use an unsupported accessory?  Only way to reboot the phone when it hangs is to remove the battery and place it back.  Why can't they give a reset switch hidden somewhere if they can't write bugfree code (and nonone can).  I have been doing this for the last one month while trying to convince Nokia that they have a problem with their bluetooth stack. I can prove that it happens only with A2DP profile.  I have been using a plantronics bluetooth headset without any problem.  I'm also using HT820 with my Nokia N70 which supports only HSP profile. Unfortunately, N96 doesn't provide an option to choose what profile you want to use when you pair a bluetooth headset.  I could have listened to music from my laptop (A2DP) while the headset is connected with phone (HSP), and I don't miss any calls.  I'm pretty sure it is a bug in their bluetooth stack; only if I could talk to one of their developers and explain the problem.
    - You know the commotion Nokia created when they removed VoIP stack from N96.  Thanks to Fring, I use VoIP and skype with N96 today.
    - The NetWork stack is so cumbursome.  Each applications have to define their own access points and rights.  Why can't it be in the platform level? Just imagin you doing this on your laptop for each of the applications.
    - Its better not to talk about the battery.  It comes for less than a day for me.  But, you can always blaim the usage.
How do we make Nokia listen to issues?  Do they have any customer feedback forum (please, not through the Nokia Care centers)?  I wish if they improve, after all, I still love my phone (Yes, I paid a good amount for this phone)

    N96, FW: 12.043

    Hi Jaimon,
I'm with you - I've had my N96 nearly six months and am VERY disappointed.
I just bought a Parrot Party Bluetooth speaker. A GREAT little unit. Needless to say, the implementation of A2DP leaves a LOT to be desired on the N96. Basically, it's like listening to a CD that skips every 10 seconds. The N96 cannot keep up the stream of data fast enough. It's VERY annoying.
I checked to make sure no other apps were running to make sure it wasn't something else running that was causing the problem, but no, it's rubbish (I have firmware 12.043). Other people in my office can connect their Blackberries etc... no problem. Plays back beautifully, but my N96? Piece of garbage.
Nokia have a LOT to answer for! Like you say, a phone that costs more than a laptop and this is the level of service we get. I have written TWICE via their online customer service form, and on each occasion received an email saying I can expect a response in 72 hours. I've never received ANYTHING!
Also, I had a Plantronics headset - Explorer 340. A nice headset. Same problems as mentioned elsewhere, would intermittently be disconnected and reconnected - very annoying. Last week, it paired but would not connect. Plantronics' support was wonderful! So efficient. They're exchanging the unit with a newer model (brand new) because they cannot replace the old model. Maybe that will work better. Meanwhile, because I NEED a headset for driving (and the supplied stereo headset is pathetic - cable too short, microphone ends up around your waist (USELESS!)) I bought (*gasp*) a Nokia BH-101. Paired fine with the N96 (as one would EXPECT), but the headset itself is lousy - such a poor design. I challenge anyone to make it fit in their ear comfortably enough as to be able to HEAR the bloody thing while driving. I have to keep one hand on it to keep it in my ear. USELESS NOKIA!
What is it WITH this company?! Why have they lost the plot?!??!
