12c agent patching

When creating a plan to patch agents the analyze phase really takes a long time and so does the deployment phase.
Does anyone have any experience using emcli for patching agents? I'm curious what the results are.
In our configurations we're dealing with ~800 agents.
emcli submit_agent_patch
-input_file="data:targets_file.xml"
-schedule="start_time:<value>;tz:<value>;grace_period:<value>"
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/em.121/e17786/cli_verb_ref.htm#CACBECFE
The documentation seems to lack some good examples how to accomplish this.
Thanks

I opened a SR on Tuesday of last week. My frustration level rose when their suggestion was to change permissions on the directories underneath /etc so the oracle account could do the “chkconfig –list”.
Changing permissions on core Linux directories isn't an acceptable answer for me. I was hoping someone else had run into this same problem and another solution.

  • 12c Agent on Solaris 10 version earler than u9?

Was wondering if anyone has had a positive experience running the 12c agent on Solaris 10 version older than the one that is certified (u9). I have fully patched up Solaris 10 u4 and u8 servers servers here and cannot justify upgrading to u9 just to accomodate an agent.

    Hello,
I've found a workaround to solve the problem.
On the target server a temporary installation directory was created containing the agentDeploy.sh script.
Inside this script there are several java calls and some are missing the information to run as 64-bit.
I've changend the rows where the flag "-d64" was missing:
    ..../java -d64 -classpath....
and then I've made a retry from EM 12c.
    And it works successfully.
    Have a nice day!

  • 12c Agent causes abrt full crash report on OEL 6.4 (64 bit)

We have a brand new server that we've installed OEL 6.4 x86_64 on with Oracle 11.2.0.3 and the 12c agent. Periodically I'm getting the following ABRT (Automatic Bug Report Tool) whenever the agent tries to run the "chkconfig --list" command. The oracle account does not have permission to execute the chkconfig command (that's the account the agent process is running under), however the agent periodically is trying to execute that for whatever reason.
Is there something I missed when I setup the oracle account?
Here's the top section of the abrt full crash report

  • OPMN process failing every second on 12c agent install Windows servers

    Hi,
I have installed the 12c agent to both Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 servers and on both OS's I receive an application error event in the Windows logs that the opmn.exe is crashing. I have no idea what this process is or why it's crashing. I don't see any OPMN\logs in the home directory. Any idea what I"m doing wrong? I'm installing it with a response file and it seems like it's working fine otherwise, but I cannot figure out why it installed this opmn.exe and how to install it without it?
    Any help hugely appreciated!!
    Thanks

    Hi,
This is caused due to the service 'Oracle-agent12r1ProcessManager' that gets created as a part of 12C agent.
Issue is being investigated in following BUG:
    BUG 14610919 - WINDOWS AGENT INSTALLER 12C BP1 INSTALLING OPMN.EXE SERVICE
Stopping the service Oracle-agent12r1ProcessManager will stop the errors and will not have any impact on the functionality of the agent.

    Venkat

    hostname = cbdn-000-002-001-018

    -9 n/a oracle_home agent12c1_2_cbdn-000-00-2-002-018

Please see the following doc for instructions on deinstalling an EM 12c agent. An EM 12c agent has its own Oracle home, so uninstalling it will not affect other Oracle products on the host.

  • OS prerequisites for 12c Agent Push

    Hello all,
The project is to install 12101 cloud control and then use the push methodology to install various agents. I am preparing the initial preparation for this.
Need your suggestion/tips on: "what are the OS prerequisites for 12c agent push?"
    am aware of few:
    1. enable 'oracle' user to be able to sudo (or 'su'?) to root in order to run the root.sh script -- this is a preq in the deployment page.
--- what happen if I am not able to manage OS folks that 'oracle' can sudo to root during the time of install? In this scenario, can I ask OS folks to run root.sh?
--- do we really need to run root.sh for agent push? I ran many silent agent install in 11g OEM, but it doesn't ask me to run root.sh..
    2. Firewall - ports etc ?
    What else?
    Regards,lily

    Hi Lily,
    1. If you do not have privileges, you can ask any OS folks to execute this root.sh.
    root.sh will set additional permissions.
    2. You can follow the document provided below to check on the complete pre-reqs for agent install.

  • OEM 12c  Agent does not show down status.

Hi, I'm testing EM 12c. I added host target to oem and then kill agent process on host.
When open agent page (Setup-Agent-Testingagent) see error.
Communication between the Oracle Management Service host to the Agent host is unavailable. Any functions or displayed information requiring this communication link will be unavailable. For example: deleting/configuring targets, uploading metric data, or displaying Agent home page information such as Agent to Management Service Response Time (ms).
But status agent and host show up in EM.
I try resync agent, But nothing has changed it.
    ./emctl status agent
Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Cloud Control 12.1.0.1.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2012 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    Agent is Not Running
Other target (hosts, agent) show status correctly.
    Thanks for help.

EM is showing Host is up makes sense. If I remember correct the OMS pings the host if the agent is down. This will succeed so the host will show up.
Why the agent is showing up does not make sense to me. The agent sends a signal every (default) 120 seconds. If no signal is received by the OMS the OMS sends a reverse ping to the agent. If this does not succeed the agent and its monitored targets should get the state “Agent Unreachable”.

  • How to recover from failed 12c agent deployment

    Greetings,
I am in the process of upgrading to OEM 12c using the 2-System method and I am slowly making progress. Using the OEM 12c Upgrade Console I was able to get the Deploymnet/Configuration step to succeed but the Check Agent Readiness Step failed. I found the error in the <Agent_Instance_Home>/sysman/log/gcagent.log file on the target machine - ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor.
Once I resolve that is it simply a matter of going to the Upgrade Console -> Deploy and Configure Agents page, select the cleanup failed deployments tab and go from there or is there something else I must do. I haven't been able to find specific instructions on how to proceed in such a situation.
    Thank you.
    Bill Wagman

    Hi Bill,
Yes your understanding is correct, just slect the option " cleanup failed deployments " while doing the agent deployment and it will take care of everything.
I also see that you have posted few queries in the forum about EM upgrade , i suggest you open an SR with oracle support , so that they can guide you through the upgrade process and help you in case of any issues. In case you have already opened an SR with support then pls ignore this suggestion. :)

That is where I'm having the problem. I can't get the self update to work, because I keep getting timed out... I know it has something to do with my proxy server. This server doesn't have access to the internet, but has all of *oracle.com websites available to it.  So basically I was trying to find a way around using that self update...  Every time I test the https://updates.oracle.com link in the proxy settings in OEM.  It says the test succedded, but when I try to update my credentials for MOS, I keep getting timed out.

  • Where is the 64-bit Linux 12c agent??

We have a fresh clean install of 12c on a 32-bit Linux platform. I tried pushing out the agent (through 12c) to a host running 64-bit Linux. The remote agent install failed, as it would not take the 32-bit agent from the OMS host on the 64-bit remote host (the error message stated this).
I have tried both edelivery, and OTN, but neither has just the 12c (12.1) 64-bit Linux management agent (I was going to install manually, and then discover the hosts through the 12c OMS).
Where is the clean stand-alone version of the 12.1 management agent??
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can use (Setup > Extensibility ) Self Update to down load agent software.

"java.io.IOException [Failed to open agent server wallet]"
i think there is a problem with the secure of the Agent<->OMS.
    go to $agent_home/agent_inst/
    execute ./emctl unsecure agent
    after this
execute ./emctl secure agent (insert the OMS Secure PW by prompt for PW)
    now the agent must work.

  • Cisco Clean Access Agent patch?

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard today without realizing that my campus uses Cisco's Clean Access Agent to allow access to the network. Every time I try to log in log in it tells me "Agent user operator system not supported." It is version 4.6.0.3. I realize now that this is not a campus problem, but more likely a program problem. Is there any word on a way around this or a patch in the near future?
    Thanks.

The same issue occurred on my campus. Cisco claims they will fix the problem between 3 and 90 days.
