16:9 DV sequence in iDVD shows up as 4:3 - Apple's workaround =Quality loss

Capturing and editing anamaphoric 16:9 from a DV Camera in Final Cut Express, then exporting using Quicktime (not conversion) gives a file that iDVD does not see as 16:9 but squeezes it to 4:3. After esearching this quite extensivly, Apple's workaround is to do the following:

Which works fantastic but my simple question is... because I now have to use Quicktime conversion (as stated in the link above) does my quality of the video suffer at all?

To be honest I didn't try it yet, but at a first look the procedure described in your link doesn't seem to degrade the movie quality. In fact, even if you use QuickTime Conversion, that procedure simply uses the same codec as FCE (DV/DVCPRO-NTSC or DV-PAL); the Aspect Ratio and Dimensions parameters should only affect the "presentation" of the movie, not its intrinsic resolution, which should remain untouched (720x480 or 720x576). Then its effect should be the same as changing the Scaled Size in the Visual Settings of the property window in QT Player (but only if you have QT Pro), which does not touch the video encoding but only the way it is displayed.
But other posters might know more about this...

My sequence will not show up in Color 1.5.3 when sent from FCP 7

I cannot get clips from FCP 7 to show up when sent to Color. I had been able to get this to work perfectly fine earlier, but now for some reason, when sending a sequence from FCP to Color, Color doesn't automatically create a new project with the sequence in it. I've Googled for answers as much as I can, but cannot figure out what's going wrong.
By the way, the footage is from a Canon 7D, imported into FCP from PluralEyes 8.
EDIT: I've tried to manually export the XML from Final Cut into Color. Color will not even recognize the exported XML file. I've done what others have suggested online and deleted my Color & FCP preferences files out of my User/Library. I've created new FCP projects and tried to send to color from a new project. None of these have helped at all.

I just had this exact same problem. Clips from my FCP 7 sequence would not show up when I sent them to Color 1.5. No way. No how.
I solved my problem (at least for now) by simply restarting my machine. I realized that it had been running for days, and it probably just needed a reboot. Try it. It might work.
And yes, I'm running Mountain Lion, too. 10.8.2.

Fcp 4.5 sequence to idvd

i've had trouble lately in trying to create a DVD from a FCP 4.5 sequence to idvd 4.
after exporting, first i do not get any sound and 2, it seems that only a small bit of the sequence keeps playing, over and over.
i have been exporting to quicktime, and have tried making movie both contained and also not checking make movie self-contained.
i've been saving to my firewire drive, and then dragging to idvd.
can anyone kindly tell me the proper procedure, the steps i should be taking?

Hello,
Dragging files only makes video in the menu. To get movies that play as a DVD you must import a quicktime movie.
in iDVD (File-Import-Video)
in FCP (File- Export- Quicktime Movie)
In FCP ensure the following settings;
Setting - Current
Include - Audio and Video
Marker - Chapter Markers (if you used them!)

Heavy quality loss in iDVD 6

Hi,
I made movies in HD standard (1440 x 1080i) comprising HD material (1280 x 720) and stills (1920 x 1080) and included slide shows (jpg´s 1920 x 1080 px, 180 dpi).
The movies and slide shows look fine on the screen (crisp & sharp).
After including the material in iDVD6 an rederering the stuff in "best quality" the result is absolutely disappointing: movies and fotos have lost a great deal of the sharp original resolution and look "muddy".
Is iDVD not capable to render HD material in an adequate way?

And there are two small points more.
• iDVD - update function = lot's of problems
• Photos in iMovie - then Send/Export to iDVD - gives a really bad result
First iDVD - When You done Your layout and assembled the DVDs content - DON't
go back to eg iMovie and change ANYTHING.
If You do - iDVD will notice and ask to update - THIS has a severe BUG that results in
a. All chapters will point to same place
b. Most probably quality issues too (my guess)
iMovie. When I include photos and are done with ediiting I
• Close iMovie
• Open iDVD and start a new project
• Import from within iDVD - so that iMovie can't do any rendering. iDVD does this so much better.
One more quality factor is
• low free space on internal boot hard disk - NEVER under 25Gb on my Mac

Copying iDVD preset to DVD Studio (no apple logo)

Hi All,
I've said that I'd author a dvd for a DOP using DVD Studio Pro 2.
I've authored other basic DVDs using DVD studio before.
The DOP tried something in iDVD and showed me the example of what he wanted.
It was a simple main menu with play all or chapters, however the main menu was a motion menu, it had stills he'd chosen, traversing horizontally accross the screen, with a still he'd chosen in the background.
It also played a music loop (he'd chosen the track) and the menu faded up with two white lines growing horizontally introducing the menu.
This I was told was a preset in iLife/ iDVD.
The unfortunate thing about this preset however is that it has the apple logo in the bottom right corner.
I would like to duplicate this particular preset using DVD Studio but changing a few of the dimensions/ positions of the stills ie push them all so they wipe the screen slightly lower in the frame, and most importantly, lose the apple logo.
Is this possible.
Any help much appreciated.

Few things:
1) The Apple logo doesn't appear ever in a DVD Studio Pro template
2) You can turn off the Apple Logo in IDVD in Preferences (if memory serves...might be in the options of the template/project itself)
3) You can't use an IDVD template in DVD Studio Pro (you can use elements in some instances, but...for all intents and purposes let's just say you can't)
4) There is no comparable template to what you are describing in DVDSP.
5) I would advise creating it in IDVD and simply turn off the Apple Logo

iDVD is software for DVD authoring. What are you trying to view? Find the movie file, make sure it's in the correct format and import into iTunes. Then you can stream to ATV

I would suggest you try to update your iOS 8.0.2 to the latest iOS 8.1.0 with iTunes on your computer. Don't try to do the update on your iPhone, it takes time and some error always occur. After updating to iOS 8.1.0, if your iPhone can't restart properly, try Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS trial version. It will say that your iPhone is not in normal mode, offering you the option 'restart the device'. Just click the button to let your iPhone restart.

If I understand the issue correctly, you have recently purchased a used iPhone and you do not see your Apple TV in the control center in order to AirPlay. To troubleshoot this issue please follow the steps outlined below.
Try these steps first
Make sure that you have the latest software on your iOS device and Apple TV.
Make sure that both devices have Wi-Fi turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Network.
If you're trying to use peer-to-peer AirPlay, make sure that both devices have Bluetooth turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Bluetooth.
If you don't see AirPlay in Control Center
When an AirPlay-enabled device is available, you'll see AirPlay in Control Center on your iOS device.
If you don't, try these steps:
Restart your iOS device and Apple TV.
Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network.

TS2972 Apple TV (2) works great with everything BUT iTunes on my computer, AND I can turn Home Sharing Off and On multiple times and NOTHING show up under "shared" and NOTHING shows up under Computers on Apple TV???

My Apple TV (2) works fine with my iPad and iPhone.
My iTunes syncs with my iPad and iPhone.
I have turned "Home Sharing" off and on multiple times - of course using the same AppleID - and NOTHING shows up under Shared (and then Shared goes away) and NOTHING shows up under "Computers" on Apple TV?
Why aren't Apple TV and iTunes smart enought to work with each other on the same network? This should not be this difficult...

I think I am having the same problem.
My issue: since updating the software on ATV, I get an issue where shortly after starting a movie or video of some sort streaming from iTunes on my iMac the vid stops and Apple TV tells me that I need to connect to my Home Sharing account. Sometimes I can fix it by turning Home Sharing off and back on in my settings. Sometimes I need to completely reboot the AppleTV!
Any suggestions???

Log out of your account on your iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in with the updated version of the account so as to 'refresh' it on it.
