2012 SP1 to 2012 R2 side-by-side migration?

Hello
Is it possible/supported to migrate from 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2 side-by-side?
Reason for wanting this is to upgrade the Server OS at the same time from 2012 to 2012 R2 and avoid the backup/restore DB process.
Thanks

Hi,
I agree with Torsten the backup/restore scenario is much easier than migrating to a new site.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 - Side by Side

    Hi Friends,
Currently our SCCM infrastructure is running with a CAS site, 2 Primary Sites and 8 Secondary sites with SCCM 2012 SP1. Now we want to update this infrastructure from SCCM 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2. But we want remove CAS site and to keep only single Primary Site.
Can this be done in Side by Side migration from SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 ? If yes then please suggest how to migrate all data (Packages/Clients) from SCCM 2012 SP1 to new infra on SCCM 2012 R2.
    Thanks in advance.

You don't have many (supported) options here. Detaching a site is not possible, so indeed your only option left is to migrate. Problem here is that the supported scenario is from a ConfigMgr 2012 R2 site to a ConfigMgr 2012 R2 site (see:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682006.aspx). That means you should first upgrade your old environment before you can start with your migration.

  • SCOM Side By Side Migration from 2007 to 2012

We current have SCOM 2007R2 (6.1.7221) installed and we plan to install SCOM 2012 R2 (latest release) in a side-by-side migration.  If we deploy the SCOM 2012R2 Client to existing systems being monitored, can we multi-home the clients to both SCOM 2007R2
and SCOM 2012R2? Are there any version requirements or issues that we could face during the migration since we on (6.1.7221)?
Again, this is a side by side migration path and not an upgrade to the SCOM 2007 servers. :) I see other forum topics almost just like this, but don't see any supporting documentation.

  • RS Configuration Manager can no longer find 2008 R2 instance after installing 2012 instance side-by-side

    Hi all,
I had a (default) SQL Server 2008 R2 RS instance running just fine until I installed a SQL Server 2012 instance side by side.
Now, the original reporting service service still runs, as in the Windows service is still running and I can access the web based Report Manager, but I can no longer access it via the Reporting Services Configuration Manager (2008). I keep getting the message
"No report servers were found" when trying to connect.
The 2012 version of Reporting Services Configuration Manager is able to find the new 2012 instance though.
I've found an article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960374/en-us) that handles this, but I don't have a dedicated server available to test this on, so I'd like some more info first, if possible.
The article handles SQL Server 2008 vs SQL Server 2005, so not sure if it applies to my case (in other articles I read that the WMI namespaces have changed between 2005 and 2008, but nothing is said about 2012).
It says to update the ReportingService.mof file by replacing RS_[instance_name] by [instance_name], but the .mof file that handles the 2012 instance also contains the RS_[instance_name] text and seems to run just fine
Any other suggestions or extra details about the above would be greatly appreciated!

  • New feature that need to be considered sisde by side migration

    Hya,
We are going to migrate from sccm 2007 to 2012.
we have one primary site in our 2007 environment and no others. one site server and sql backend
we have approx 1000 user so no need to create additional primary sites in 2012.
but we do have 20-30 remote sites using a 1mb dsl line to the main office. only 2-3 pcs at these sites.
I was thinking of building the new environment single server also and backend sql server. then migrating the clients by doing side by side migration.
one thing that im not sure about is the "USER-CENTRIC" functionality of sccm 2012-->if I do a side by side migration then the new system 2012 will not be setup for this feature and will be targetting collections of devices.
Can someone give me some pointers in the best way to migrate?
    cheers Mike

You don't need to worry about this to carry out the migration. You are migrating devices so continue what you are doing.
When you start using ConfigMgr 2012 configure Active Directory User Discovery. Then you can create user collections and configure deployments to target users.

  • Overrides in Side by Side Migration

I'm in the process of performing a side by side migration from 2007 R2 to 2012 R2.  I'm at the step where I'm exporting all of my unsealed MP's from 2007 and importing them into 2012 R2.  My concern is that I have not yet multi-homed all of my
agents yet, so I was wondering if importing an MP w/ overrides for an agent that 2012 R2 does not know about may confuse things.
My question is, do I need to multi-home the agents before importing the unsealed MP's?

When you export all unsealed MP and imports it into new SCOM 2012 R2 environment, you need not to multi-home your agent before importing the unselaed MP.
Monitors, rules and its coreesponding overrides are stored in SCOM database when a corresponding MP is imported int the SCOM. When SCOM calculated the effective monitor / rule of the enetity, it will evaluate all relevance monitor, rules and its overrides.
For detail on how to migrate SCOM 2007 R2 into SCOM 2012 by side-by-side migration, pls. refer to

  • Uninstall Option for a package is grayed out in Software Center 2012 Client side but others have it available

    Hi,
I created a deployment for an application that will use a Custom CMD to Install / Uninstall. Locally executing those files works perfect. The deployment installed the application and shows perfectly installed but:
Since this application is a user Self Service Application they should be able to hit to Install or Uninstall by themselves. The problem is that the Uninstall button is grayed out.
I noticed this problem for other applications too but some of them has this option available.
My question is if only the MSI Native Installer will get this option available or also the Script Installer can have it available.
I do have a Uninstall Program listed on the Deployment type as: "uninstall.cmd"  before it hasn't had the quotes but even that still doesn't active the option Uninstall. I don't know if there is an option inside the UDI Wizard that I missed
to activate that will activate this option for this kind of deployments.
Please any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
    Kind regards.

    Hi All,
I have the same problem like Joel, But my deployment is available and does not have a query to detect installed users. we have used direct membership in collection, still the option of uninstall is graded out for one of the application.
So far we have tried all the below options.
Created a new application and deployed to the targeted audience – Still not worked
Changed the detection method to Product code – Still not worked
Change the uninstall script –  Still not worked
Refreshed client policies – Still not worked
Reboot is not pending – Still not worked
Policy Reset – Still Not worked
Client Repair – Still not worked
WMI Repair – Still not worked
Let us know any other solution/though to resolve the issue.

  • Server 2012 cluster - virtual machine live migration does not work

    Hi,
We have a hyper-v cluster with two nodes running Windows Server 2012. All the configurations are identical.
When I try to make a Live migration from one node to the other I get an error message saying:
Live migration of 'Virtual Machine XXXXXX' failed.
I get no other error messages, not even in event viewer. This same happens with all of our virtual machines.
A normal Quick migration works just fine for all of the virtual machines, so network configuration should not be an issue.
The above error message does not provide much information.

    Hi,
Please check whether your configuration meet live migration requirement:
Two (or more) servers running Hyper-V that:
    Support hardware virtualization.
    Yes they support virtualization.
Are using processors from the same manufacturer (for example, all AMD or all Intel).
Both Servers are identical and brand new Fujitsu-Siemens RX300S7 with the same kind of processor (Xeon E5-2620).
Belong to either the same Active Directory domain, or to domains that trust each other.
Both nodes are in the same domain.
Virtual machines must be configured to use virtual hard disks or virtual Fibre Channel disks (no physical disks).
All of the vitual machines have virtual hard disks.
Use of a private network is recommended for live migration network traffic.
Have tried this, but does not help.
Requirements for live migration in a cluster:
Windows Failover Clustering is enabled and configured.
    Yes
Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) storage in the cluster is enabled.
    Yes
Requirements for live migration using shared storage:
All files that comprise a virtual machine (for example, virtual hard disks, snapshots, and configuration) are stored on an SMB share. They are all on the same CSV
Permissions on the SMB share have been configured to grant access to the computer accounts of all servers running Hyper-V.
Requirements for live migration with no shared infrastructure:
    No extra requirements exist.
Also please refer to this article to check whether you have finished all preparation works for live migration:

  • SCVMM 2012 R2 RU3 - Live storage migration failing with error 12711 if cluster resource name is not in form of "SCVMM vmname "

At the end of live storage migration in SCVMM 2012 R2 RU3 getting error:
    Error (12711)
VMM cannot complete the WMI operation on the server (hypervhost1.domain.local) because of an error: [MSCluster_Resource.Name="SCVMM test-vm"] The cluster resource could not be found.
The cluster resource could not be found (0x138F)
    Recommended Action
Resolve the issue and then try the operation again.
Storage migration actually succeeds and after Repair/Ignore and Refresh, the VM shows up ok in VMM, with the VHD in new location.
If VM is offline, storage migration always succeeds. Live (non-storage) migration always succeeds.
I noticed in the error message that it searches for cluster resource name "SCVMM test-vm" and for some VMs I've got different cluster resource names.
Like for this VM cluster resource names are:
    Virtual Machine test-vm
    Virtual Machine Configuration test-vm
Furthermore, those resource names are showing up correctly in [VirtualManagerDB].[dbo].[tbl_WLC_VMInstance] table, columns VMResource and VMConfigResource.
Anyone knows why SCVMM keeps searching for "SCVMM test-vm" and how to fix this without recreating cluster resources?

Ok, you have the same problem and same configuration that this post:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/853c021f-dd0a-4d88-a7c1-72bb8d4d0591/hyperv-cluster-live-migration-does-not-work-anymore-after-ur5-installation?forum=virtualmachingmgrhyperv#b5ae914f-7b52-4cea-86ef-a64ce4b32bb0
This problem occurs will old and new vm?

  • 2012 R2 Cluster and Live Migration

    6 Node Cluster with Server 2012 R2, all VM's are Server 2012 R2
    4 Fiber SAN's
Moving and Live Migration worked fine in FailOver Cluster Manager
But this time we were trying do it with SCVMM 2012 R2 and just move one VM (Gen2)
Of course it failed at 99%
    Error (12711)
VMM cannot complete the WMI operation on the server (whatever) because of an error: [MSCluster_Resource.Name="SCVMM VMHost"] The cluster resource could not be found.
The cluster resource could not be found (0x138F)
    Recommended Action
Resolve the issue and then try the operation again.
How do I fix this? the VM is still running. The two vhdx files it was moving are smaller then orginal's , but it change the configuration file to point to new ones, which are bad.
it says I can Repair it... Redo or Undo....of course neither of those options work.
Wait for the object to be updated automatically by the next periodic Live migrate storage of virtual machine vmhost from whatever to whatever job.
    ID: 1708
Cluster has no errors, SAN's have no errors, CSV have no errors. the machine running scvmm is VM running on the cluster

How did you create this VM? if this is created outside of VMM, I recommend doing a manual refresh of the VM first to ensure that VMM can read its attributes. Then retry the operation.
Btw, are the VMs using diff disk? any checkpoints associated with them?

  • Certificate Authority Windows 2008 to 2012 R2 - Clean up and Migration

    Hello,
I'm currently dealing with the following scenario:
    1. I've inherited the current infrastructure setup and the plan is to clean things up and setup a new certificate infrastructure using Windows 2012 R2.
    2. The current setup:
        a. Domain Controller, Windows 2008 R2, is/was a Certificate Authority.  It hasn't issued any new certificates (based on the information in Certificate Effective Date) for quite some time.  It also has an expired certificate for
itself - issued by the domain's issuing CA - and attempts to renew it via MMC give a "Server execution failed" and STATUS: Failed when looking in Certificate enrollment for Domain Controller.  We'll call the server, DC1.
        b. Certificate Authority Server, we'll call it CERT1.  When booting up the machine and/or attempting to restart certificate services on the server, the following errors are in the event log:
EVENT 7024: Description: The Active Directory Certificate Services service terminated with service-specific error %%-2146885613.
EVENT 100: Active Directory Certificate Services did not start: Could not load or verify the current CA certificate.  Domainlocal Issuing CA The revocation function was unable to check revocation because the revocation server was offline. 0x80092013
    (-2146885613).
EVENT 48: Description: Revocation status for a certificate in the chain for CA certificate 0 for Domain.local Issuing CA could not be verified because a server is currently unavailable.  The revocation function was unable to check revocation because
the revocation server was offline. 0x80092013 (-2146885613).
Note:  The server's computer certificate has expired and it was issued by the Domain Controller mentioned in point A.  Attempts to renew it fail.
(The issue on CERT1 is like the one mentioned in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/825061?wa=wsignin1.0  however an upgrade wasn't done and it's not old versions of Windows.)
    c. There is a certificate authority machine - part of what was created for a PKI infrastructure - that was kept shutdown.  I've powered it up and the machine is not part of the domain.
Any thoughts or feedback on easily repairing the current situation so that I can upgrade everything to a new Windows 2012 R2 Certificate infrastructure would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi Vadims,
Basically using certificates in the following manner:
    1. User / Computer enrollment in the AD domain.
    2. Any hardware / web services (internal) that need a certificates.  This is usually hardware that has some form of GUI that is accessed via URL, printers accessed via URL and/or that communicate via LDAP to AD, internal UC (Lync is an example), that
    sort of thing.
A number of machines currently show certificate errors (ie.. certificate has expired) however that hasn't stopped things from working just functioning differently.  I'm going already on the assumption that if I remove the entire CA
infrastructure and re-install a new one and have everything point to that new CA server that I should be ok but I'm not 100% certain hence why I asked on this forum.
Also, you're correct is that there is one more CA.  That CA was the server that was turned off/offline that I powered on.  It is not part of the AD domain that the domain controller and the other CA belong to.  (It is standalone.)  I'm
currently patching the standalone CA since it's been off for what looks like almost 1.5 years.

    I have the following situation:
An Exchange 2003 SP2 server in an 2003 FFL and DFL domain with 2 Windows Server 2012 DC's. There are no Windows Server 2003 DC's anymore. Exchange 2003 is still functioning properly, but the eventlog is showing me some errors about LDAP which is unable to
    find an old 2003 DC.
I know this is not supported, so we want to migrate to Exchange 2010 as soon as possible.
What is the best way to do this? Will coexsitence still work? Do I have to add an 2003 DC's again?
    Please advice. Thank's in advance!

Oh thank GOD I found this thread!

  • RDS 2012 re-connection after live migration.

Is there a way to speed up the re-connection after a live migration?
So if i am in a vm that live migrates it feels like it hangs for about 10 seconds the reconnects and is fine..... While this is OK its not ideal. Is there a way to improve this?

Actually 10 seconds sounds like a very long time to me. In my experience using Shared Nothing Live Migration I've seen the switch being almost instantaneous, with a continual ping possibly dropping one or two packets, and certainly quick enough that it's
unlikely any users would notice the change. So in terms of whether it can be improved I'd say yes.
As you can see from the technical overview here
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831435.aspx the final step is for a signal to be sent to the switch informing it of the new MAC address of the servers new destination, so I wonder if the slow switch over might be connected to that, or perhaps
    some other network issue.
Is the network connection poor between the servers which might cause a delay during the final sync of changes between the server copies? Are you moving between subnets?

  • SQL Server 2000 (side-by-side with 2012) no longer accessible

    Hi,
We used to access our SQL 2K (SP4) box via PowerShell & BCP without any issue. Recently we added a SQL 2012 instance side-by-side and upgraded Powershell v1 to v4. Now powershell and SSMS can not longer connect to the SQL2k box.
BCP within SQL 2K still has access:
    BCP "SELECT @@VERSION" queryout C:\version.txt -S locahost\SQL2K -U test -P test -w
    However Powershell does not:
    $SqlConnection = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection
    $SqlConnection.ConnectionString = "Server=localhost\SQL2K;User ID=test;Password=test;"
    $SqlCmd = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand
    $SqlCmd.CommandText = "Select @@version as SQLServerVersion"
    $SqlCmd.Connection = $SqlConnection
    $SqlAdapter = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter

    $DataSet = New-Object System.Data.DataSet
    $SqlAdapter.Fill($DataSet)
    $SqlConnection.Close()
    $DataSet.Tables[0]
    now errors out with:
Exception calling "Fill" with "1" argument(s): "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while

It would appear to have something to do with the native client or .NET. The SQL 2K instance has remote connections enabled, it has SP4 installed, no firewalls are present, all instances are named and TCP is enabled. There are no connection issues to the

Does anyone have any ideas on whats going wrong, or what we can correct?

Have you checked if the "SQL Server Browser" is running? When you install a new SQL Server instance the Browser Service will be stopped and you have to start it manually.

    hi ,
do you know  How to configure SNMP on all managed client using SCCM 2012 SP1?

As a side note, I made an interesting discovery last week: the SNMP Service is deprecated in Windows Server 2012. Why would you want to use SNMP on an actual Windows OS though? There are far better ways available to monitor Windows. I'm sure that lines
