-34506 Error is Driving Me Potty

Hi
For weeks now I've been trying to burn an iDVD project and getting the dreaded -34506 Error.
Originally the project had a main movie, two additional movies and two slideshows, and by process of elimination I've boiled it down to one of the additional movies that's causing the error.
I've scoured this Forum and taken into account all the advice re -34506 and nothing works for me.
The iMovie project is only 575MB and less than 3min long.
There are no chapter markers.
I've tried both Best Performance and Best Quality
I've tried creating a new iDVD project, using the default theme.
I'm on iDVD 6.0.3, OS 10.4.8, Quicktime Pro 7.1.3
I've tried
dropping in the iMovie file
sharing the iMovie file as a Quicktime dv file and dropping that in
saving the Quicktime file as a mov file and dropping that in
all give the same error.
The only thing different from the many iMovies I've created is that I used a third party transition - I thought maybe that could that be my problem?
So I tried dropping the Quicktime dv file into a new iMovie project (so in effect the transitions are embedded in a single movie clip) and sharing that back out to iDVD but still get the same error.
Could there still be some encoding from the third party transition in the Quicktime file? If so is there anything I can do to make it work - I need those transitions.
I've been spending way too much time on this and my brain's full, would be glad of advice.

Sorry it took me so long to get to this forum, and thanks Sue for pointing me this way.
Happily, the problem was resolved - it appears to have been a permission problem. Although it probably bores most people, please allow me to explain what an iMovie plug-in can, and cannot do.
Basically, duing a rendering pass (i.e. when you press 'Apply') iMovie calls the plug-in for each frame of the clip. It passes the plug-in an image (the current frame), and expects an image of the same size passed back after processing is done. That's it. A plug-in can modify the image, but nothing else. A plug-in can't drop a frame, or add a frame, or change the frame's resolution. It can't access anything in the clip beyond the current frame, and a few simple settings. A plug-in certainly can't write to the clip itself.
Even though this severely limits what a plug-in can do, it also simplifies debugging. If, like in this example, iDVD pops up an error, we can be quite sure that it's not the plug-in, because a) iDVD does not call the plug-in (the plug-in can only be called from iMovie), and b) since plug-ins can't write to disk, and don't have access to the clip, there is no way the plug-in has messed up the clip's source data.
If a permission problem crops up, there are many possible reasons. Sometimes, the source material was copied from an archival CD burned with PC software (that, if you are unlucky, has some very funky permission codes set). Most of the time, though, iMovie simply messes up when it get confused (believe me, this happens a lot, in iMovie 5 ususally after you have played with audio settings). In that event it doesn't really matter if you applied a transition, an effect, or a title - the permissions get shot, and you need to repair them. What is a bit disconcerting, though, is the fact that permission problems are difficult to spot. 'Error -34506' certainly wasn't in our data base, even though other permission-related error numbers are.
Finally, a short 'hi again' to Klaus1. Thank you for providing feedback on this issue. If you allow me a small correction to your comment: Our plug-ins do work with iMovie 6. They do not work with Intel-based Macs. Some of our plug-ins do not work well with Tiger. Luckily, you can test that before you buy them.
Good night everyone, and have a nice sunday!

  • How I resolved the #-34506 error

    Hi everybody,
I've often fallen on the -34506 error during encoding, but only with projects during around one hour.
Though I've found the suggestions on these pages useful (Check the chapter markers. Have lots of free space on the startup drive. Clearing caches. Deleting iDVD plist. etc.), they doesn't resolve my problem.
So here what I have done...
For projects during less than one hour, I simply swich from "best quality" to "best performance" but of course this is not the best way for who want the best result. In addiction I got the error even for project during 65 minutes where it was not possible to use the "best performance" setting.
I have completely RESOLVED the problem by adding twice the main movie in iDVD, and hiding somewhere one of the two title renamed with "." (which is simple to hide!)
This problem exists since previous versions of iDvd: when will Apple-mum resolve the bug?!
I really hope my experience and my trick be useful for anybody because I know it's very frustrating and annoying!

    Hi Simon,
I will try to explain in a better way, what I've done to resolve my problem.
I'll answer to your questions in the same order you asked.
    - I add movie just dragging and dropping.
    - The main movie is -for me- the one which is more length or important. It probably works with any kind of dvd content you want to replicate. I've done this only for increase the total lenght of the dvd, because I think that this is the nature of this iDvd's bug. I choose the "main movie" because I have no other contents that can be pertaining with my dvd, so, if someone can find its hidden link... he/she only will see the main content of the dvd!
    - When you add the second instance of the "main movie", you will see in the current iDvd page another link with the same title of the movie you have just added. So, at this point, you will probably have two title that are the same. Choose one of them and rename it in iDvd. (I renamed it with "." and hidden over a graphic element which had the same color! I as well delated all its related menus too save time in encoding and not annoying anyone clicking on it).
Hope this clarify my trick, and sorry for my gapping english!
    Good luck

  • Solution for my 34506 Error: Titles and Best Quality

I suddenly started getting 34506 errors on a project which previously had gone flawlessly. The errors occurred whether I burned directly to a disk or to a disk image. It made no difference.
The iDVD5 project consisted of importing 9 different movies. These were made in iMovie HD and these movies in turn each consisted of 20-60 photos brought in from iPhoto 5.
By trial and error I found that the errors went away when I removed one of the movies. When I focused on that movie I found that the errors went away when I removed the titles. The titles involved quite a bit of rendering. It is notable that, in this project, none of the movies used chapter markers at any time.
In reading the posts in this Apple Discussion forum, I saw a reference to the "Performance" vs. "Quality" choice which is embedded in the preferences of iDVD 5. I changed this preference from Quality to Performance and it solved my problem.
I hope that this observation is of help to other users.
As you can see that I am using three of the elements in the iLife 5 series. I have also extensively brought in Audio from iTunes. I have found "The Missing Manual" series of books by David Pogue to be excellent as I have worked with my photos and videos. I have the two books "iMovie HD & iDVD 5" and iPhoto 5". They have been hugely helpful as I have created a number of superb DVDs of family and historical events.
    Hope this is of help.
    Phil Spertus

    Hey Phil,
Here's how I solved my problem.
At the beginning of my video, I had a logo image imported from iPhoto. I put some text over it to title the video. (I used subtitle multiple in iMovie for the titling)
Well, I wanted the logo to spin in, so I clicked on the clock to change the timeline view from clips to the actual timeline. I then clicked and dragged the first clip (The logo clip with text) to the right a little which drags all the other clips to the right of it to the right also, creating a space between the beginning of the video and the logo clip.
When you click back to the clip viewer in the timeline, you now have a clip before the clip that you dragged that says "Black" The length of this Black clip depends on how far you dragged the clip in timeline view to the right.
In my case I had about three seconds of black before the logo clip. I then inserted the "spin in" transition between the clips. It worked and looked good in iMovie, and in Quicktime.
In iDVD however, I noticed that the 34506 error would always occur right at the beginning of the multiplexing stage right before it was going to start burning.
I started to wonder if it was because of the "Black" clip. I went into iMovie, removed the clip and Spin In Transition. I also deleted the iDVD plist, and ran Mac Janitor and repaired my disk permissions, and sure enough, I had a flawless burn.
Sorry it took so long to explain, but it seems that the 34506 errors occur for several different reasons.

  • One success over the dreaded 34506 error.

I upgraded to iLife 5 in July 05 and successfully made two movies with iDVDs both over an hour in length, therefore using Best Quality. I had chapter markers immediately after a fade out as that is the way a scene was ended and how a new chapter was started with a new clip. I guess I violated the two second rule.
Next I decided to take a movie from 2003, that had been exported back to the camera on DV tape for storage, and reload it into iMovie 5, added chapters, and then burned an iDVD. I got the dreaded 34506 error. I removed the chapter markers and still got the error. Figuring that there may be something left in plists or what ever, I reloaded the tape a second time, did not add chapters and still got the error. After reading all the posts on the subject I checked the photos used on the Theme pages and found they were in Photoshop (psd) format. After changing the Theme photos to jpg, the 34506 error still occurred.
Finally I looked at a file of photos used in that movie ( I always keep a file of all stills imported as well as scanned images) and noticed they were in psd format. I couldn't change the photos at this point in time as this was an exported movie three years old.
One of the posts mentioned exporting the problem movie to Full Quality Quick Time, importing the QT file into a new movie, and then doing the iDVD. I did this with immediate success.
During the course of the many failures, which lasted over two weeks of troubleshooting, I would frequently load a test video that was only two minutes long and make a DVD image successfully every time-even without dumping plists and deleting rendered assets. This sure looked like there was nothing wrong with iMovie or iDVD-it was the content of the movie. Somehow the (psd) photos left a signature in iMovie which iDVD did not like. (Not a very scientific description.)
The discussion pages provided the answer once again. Thank you so much.

I had this problem after upgrading my graphics card to an AMD 5450 and the solution after a couple of days of hair pulling was one I hadn't come across before in relation to this problem.
It turned out that the problem was caused by the screen refresh rate, it was set to 60Hz by default and I got the Video Error message but if I changed it to 50Hz then playback of recorded programs or watching live TV worked.

  • Google Maps Error Message - "Driving directions could not be received"

Hi guys, i've had my iPhone for quite a while now and lately I'm getting the error message "Driving directions could not be received" when I'm in the maps application. I've reset the phone and I'm still getting that message. Any ideas as to whats going on?

    Don Collins,
Have you reset the iPhone by holding down the top and home buttons until you see the Apple logo? If it works after that, a reset fixed it.
Before we continue, please sync with your computer, so that we know the computer has your latest information. In addition please download any photos you have taken with the iPhone to your computer.
Then go to settings -> General -> Reset all settings, and try plotting the directions. Does it work?
If it does, we are going to try a few more steps to try and isolate where your issue might be occurring.
If it doesn't, try restoring the iPhone, and when prompted let it load the data from backup.
Does it work? If so, great. We fixed it with a restore.
If it still isn't working, I would suggest we try a restore, but not load the information from the backup on the computer and see if it starts working.
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

  • Error while Driving a view using parameters from other view

    Hi,
I have created a report with streamlist and Barchart view.Driving option is used in streamlist to drive the barchart. The driving works well untill i dont use any filters in the Streamlist.Once i use parameters in streamlist , the driving works only for the default values set. When Second set of values are chosed for the parameter, the values are displayed correctly , but once they are selected for driving, the current values are replaced by the results of the default parameter settings.
I have already done the tutorials for driving and it worked well untill i use filters in the main view, from where the driving is done.
I would really appreciate if someone could give a solution for this problem.

  • Error A12E3 driving me mad!

Mac Pro, OSX 10.7.5, 16GB RAM
Unable to upgrade Lightroom, as I needed the latest version of CC desktop. However CC Desktop would not run unless I updated it. Whenever I try, I get an Error Code A12E3
I've just spent an exciting 2-3 hours sifting these forums, wider web searches etc to find solutions and having tried them (eg Uninstall/reinstall CC, reinstall AAM, rename folders in ~/Library, run installer from Hard drive not disk image, try as new Mac Admin User account etc etc) I am no further forward except that I now no longer have any CC applications installed thanks to the CC cleaner app, but I can't reinstall them!
Please could an Adobe support rep (or indeed anyone else) advise me what my next steps should be? Chances are I have tried it already, but somewhere someone might suggest something I haven't tried. If Adobe are unable to suggest anything useful, then I shall seek a refund on my CC subscription.

  • "this accessory is not.." error is driving me crazy.

"this accessory is not optimized for this iPhone" error will not stop popping up on my phone every 10 seconds or so. Plugged in or not, it continues. Did an update, a full restore, NADA!. Doug, welcome to these discussions.
I'm using a Mac (built in firewall settings) over pitiful Texas dial-up and can listen to the "live" radio broadcast. QuickTime 7 automatically picks the best settings and even re-connects after a "drop".
Open QuickTime Player and select "Open URL". Copy (do not click) on this link:
    http://www.stretchinternet.com/wjbc/WJBClivelink.mov
Paste it into the dialog and hit return.
They stream the file using http port 80. If you have access to the Web you should have no issues.
The file should work with any version of QuickTime 4, or higher.

  • A wifi problem that is driving me potty

This problem is common to both the iPhone and iPad but I will post it here.
I have 4 Edimax 7416APN Wireless Access Points. One works perfectly, but the other three exhibit the following behaviour -
I can connect from a desktop or laptop with no problem, indeed I have connected 7 different computers to all three of the WAPs. However, when it comes to an iPhone or iPad I get "incorrect password" if I set a WPA password, but it works fine with a WEP password. I have demonstrated this problem with 4 iPhones and 3 iPads.
I will have a problem convincing my supplier that although I can connect to them successfully with 7 computers I have apparently got 3 faulty units. Can anyone shed any light on this, and I don't think it is the same problem as the "incorrect password" thread elsewhere on this forum.

  • Sequence Rendering, Just a small thing but driving me potty!

Ok, so I'm working in FCP, I just imported a clip to the timeline, edited it to my satisfaction and now it needs rendering, so I go to Sequence - Render Selection and it's greyed out, so I go back down to the timeline, click on it, go back to Sequence- Render Menu and it's still @£$%^&** greyed out, so I go back again to the Timeline and click it like crazy to get FCP to recognise that I'm selecting it and finally on the third attempt I get to render my file, what gives?
Is there a keystroke that will allow me to select the Timeline for rendering the clip without having to to and fro with the mouse numerous times before it works?

Thanks Tom (I bought your Book by the way)
I'm just rendering a clip after adding an effect or transition, that's all, just the usual good stuff.
