4:3 and 16:9 Primer

Hi All,
I am trying to get the lowdown on the subtleties in different workflows between 4:3 and 16:9.
Besides different sequence settings in FCP, encoding settings in Compressor, and track/project settings in DVD Studio Pro, what other issues do I need to be aware of?
How can you, just by looking at item properties, determine if it is 16:9 or 4:3? I have some PAL clips that we're converting to NTSC, so between aspect ratio and frame size/rate issues, it's a big pain in the butt. The picture looks pretty squished even in PAL, so by the time it gets to NTSC it's looking kinda bad.
I am not sure if my issue is at the CAPTURE stage (maybe 16:9 was captured at 4:3??) or my sequences, or if the original footage is just 4:3... What a mess!
So any suggestions on workflow, websites that explain it all in detail, etc, would be much appreciated.
Best,
Jason

How can you, just by looking at item properties,
determine if it is 16:9 or 4:3?
i have to deal with every show i work.
look for something you know is a circle. also, the hips on people are a dead giveaway.
this 4:3 and 16:9 nonsense gives so many folks a headache. i've been standing around monitors with as many 5 engineers, all scratching our heads, arguing whether it's anamorphic, cropped, squeezed, squished or whatever and we can't tell.
most the time, get up and go outside or shift your vision to a blank piece of white paper to reset the vision circuits in your eyeballs and your brain. i do this constantly. it helps with regards to the stupidity that is american television.

    Hey all, will this code help me find the next larger and next smaller prime number? I only ask because my main() isnt outputting anything, but everything looks fine there. So assuming I may have done something that didnt make sense here.
              //returns the next larger prime number
              long largerGetter = num;
              long lG = num + 1;
              while(largerGetter != 1)

                   lG++;
              nextLargerPrimeNumber = lG;
              //returns next smaller prime
              long smallerGetter = num;
              long sG = num - 1;

  • Remote Desktop Access with Mac and Asus Transformer Prime

    I have an E2000 router with the most current firmware. I have a Sony VAio laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit,a Macbook with 10.6.8, and a new Asus Transformer Prime with ICS.My work desktop is a Dell Optiplex 380 with Windows 7 Pro 32bit. I frequently work from home and have no issues remoting into to my work PC from by Sony laptop via VPN and RDP.However I have never been able to connect successfully to my work PC with my Macbook(using Remote Desktop Connection 2.1 for Mac OS) or Asus tablet(using WYSE Pocket Cloud RDP app for Android). I can however connect to the VPN itself on the Macbook and tablet without issue same as my Windows laptop. The other interesting part is I can connect via RDP when I am connected to a Mi-Fi 3g hotspot. So it is definitely something in the my Linksys E2000 blocking the connection for some reason. I have even set Port forwarding of 3389 with the ip's of both the Macbook and Asus tablet.I have also tried connecting via ethernet to the router with the same outcome. I cannot ping my work pc from either device as well.In addition the firewall on my work PC is completely disabled and all services related to Remote desktop access are enabled and running.Does anyone have any ideas?

    For my tablet its own ip assigned by the router. Same with the macbook.the Pocketcloud RDP app also uses 3389.I have port 3389 set for both internal and external port and protocol "both" under the Single Port Forwarding tab in the router config.

  • Buffalo AirStation G54 and Airport Express Primer

    A long time back there was a very good primer on how to set up Airport Express using a Buffalo AirStation G54 as a base station. I can't find it using the search feature. Does anyone know where that primer is or have access to the steps required to set these two devices up?
    There was info on the discussions site here and a link to a site with detailed instructions and photos.
    Thanks!
    JoeL

    If you want to configure the Airport Express as a wireless client, just follow David Lovell's instructions posted at the beginning of this discussion:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1113729&#1113729
    If you want to configure the Airport Express to "extend" the Buffalo wireless router's network, you are pretty much on your own. I do recall someone having posted instructions quite some time ago, but that discussion has long since been purged from the discussions server.

  • Mutt IMAP and Diffie-Hellmann prime

    Hi,
    I am trying to setup Mutt for IMAP access, but cannot get SMTP to work.
    I can read and delete my mail, but when I try sending a message I get the response: "Relaying denied; no authenticators available".
    Here is the relevant part of my .muttrc:
    set folder = imaps://po14.mit.edu
    set spoolfile = +INBOX
    set smtp_url = smtps://outgoing.mit.edu
    set ssl_force_tls = "yes"
    I also tried using the combination Mutt + Offlineimap + Msmtp; when I try sending a message, I get:
    "The Diffie-Hellmann prime sent by the server is unacceptable (too short)".
    What do you think the problem could be?
    Thank you in advance for your help.

    No problem.
    For the .muttrc parameters: if you have smtp_* set up, mutt treats them as parameters when calling sendmail. Now msmtp creates a link (probably to /usr/bin/sendmail), which mutt calls by default; whereas nbsmtp does not (and hence you need to set up 'set sendmail=/usr/bin/nbsmtp'). I don't know how well can msmtp handle those smtp_* parameters.
    EDIT: I'm sure nbsmtp cannot handle them.
    As for gmail, with gmail you might not need to supply a password, but what gmail smtp server does is that it silently replaces the "From: ..." line in your e-mail. Hence, when you use gmail smtp server, the "From" address of outgoing e-mails will *always* be your gmail address.

    Hello Jason,
    Thank you very much for welcoming me to your expert discussion :) I feel to be in the right place, at the right time. Thank you also for answering question beyond your scope here, much appreciated. The information received will help me to go further as such I have submitted a 5 start rating for your first reply.
    That sounds promising about the LMS part so yes, I stay tuned and wait patiently.
    Ok, now let’s revert to the actual topic discussed here. Cisco Prime Service Catalog and Process Orchestrator solutions I have briefly read up on this on CCO (where elseJ) and picked out the following quote
    ---- Quote from the Cisco Prime Service Catalog Data Sheet
     Today’s end users want self-service and easy access to IT tools and services.
    Simultaneously, organizations are seeking ways to extend their cloud management
    platforms beyond self-service delivery of virtual machines and infrastructure resources
    while increasing their use of cloud-based solutions to enhance business agility and effectiveness.
    Cisco Prime™ Service Catalog offers tremendous benefits to organizations that want to unify the ways in
    which all types of IT services are ordered and fulfilled, not just infrastructure requests
    ---- un quote ---
    I try to understand what (at high level of course) happens in the back ground when an order is raised and which vendor solution your product can interact with.
    As mentioned in the quoted text, this service catalogue goes beyond the standard infrastructure.
    Let’s say, a user wants to deploy a new email services, or in your example,  extends or create a new web-portal (i.e. for HR to view and manage holiday, staff absence and benefits).
    Your solution will need to interact somehow with the 3rd party vendor application that is capable building such portal I believe.
    Without disclosing to many information, I assume the portal is linked to backend VM,s that spin up requested resources (and more magic of course). Perhaps I am mixing this up with another cisco product where a user can go on the portal and spin up virtual Firewalls, virtual Routers can be provisioned in now time.
    Out if interest; Is this product also known as Mozart? (project code within Cisco?)
    I hope query is ok.
    Best wishes
    Markus

    Hi
    I have ISE 1.1 withc many access devices added (catalyst 2960,3760, AP and controller)
    I installed Cisco prime 1.2 and added my ISE (Design-> External Management Servers -> ISE Servers.) and access devices
    I need to monitor all ISE information and configuraton from prime
    But I dont see any information comming from the ISE
    Is there any additional configuration that should be donne on the Prime or ISE to monitor all ISE information on the prime

  • WLC 5508, Prime Infrastructure, 7921 phones and QoS

    Hi everybody!
    I have deployed about 50 wireless cisco phones int the network with 27 APs with the WLC 5508.
    I'm trying to investigate phones behaviour (I have some loss of audio).
    And I use Prime Infrastructure for monitoring.
    I run the Voice Diagnostic on the selected two phones.
    and in the Charts I see the next:
    1. for one phone "Downlink AC Queue Usage" shows all the traffic of "voice packets". but "Uplink AC Queue Usage" shows all the traffic of the "Best efforts packets".
    2. for the second phone "Downlink AC Queue Usage" shows all the traffic of "Best efforts packets". and "Uplink AC Queue Usage" shows all the traffic of the "Video packets".
    that is strange, very strange. the WLAN of these phones uses platinum QoS. none of other WLANs uses "gold" QoS.
    does this mean I have a QoS misconfiguration?
    where may the failure be? WLC? switches? router?
    please, any suggestions...

    I noticed few misconfigurations as per your response
    1. Are you configured AP as FlexConnect ?  If not AP connected switchport should be configured as ACCESS port & trust DSCP. If it is configured as FlexConnect, then you can configure switchport as turnk & in that case you  have to trust CoS using "mls qos trusct cos" command.
    2. WLC connected trunk ports always to be configured to trust CoS not DSCP. Otherwise WLC set QoS value ignored by your switch.
    3. If you WLAN is set for Platinum then you have to configure Platinum QoS profile for 802.1p & set value as 6.
    I would suggest you to verify QoS value preserve across you switch network. You have to take some wireshark packet caputres (as shown in my reference link) and make sure your voice packet DSCP goes into rest of your network as EF. You need to do this for upstream & downstream (from 7921 perspective) traffic. Here is the traffic flow if AP connected to switchport 1 & WLC connnected to switchport 2.
    7921 <-> AP <-> Switch port 1 <->  Switchport 2 <->  WLC <-> Switchport2 <-> Rest of your network
    Once you do this, then you can go to Prime & check those charts to reflect QoS values correctly. Otherwise you do not know where these QoS value get stripped/or modified in your network.

    I have prime collaboration assuarance and analytics version 10.5  installed in my LAB setup. I could not see any other options other than the backup option under the administration tab; I beleive this option is to schedule and run backups for prime collaboration. • Prime Infrastructure Device and Interface Health Collection Settings

    Hello,
    i am evaluating Prime Infrastructure 1.2, so far i have added two devices. A router 2911 and an Catalyst 3560x, but for both devices i don't get any graphs for memory, cpu or interface utilization.
    I tried to enable Administration > System Settings > Monitoring Settings Auto Monitoring but the changes are not saved even i nice status message on the bottom right corner.
    after a refresh it's like before.
    I have an NCS as well and there i have in the background tasks Switch CPU and Memory Poll as well as Switch Interface Utilization Poll. In the Prime Infrastructure i don't have them at all. According to the Configuration Guide there should be a CAT Switch CPU and Memory Poll and a CAT Switch Interface Poll Task, but there is nothing.
    Here the Screenshot from NCS
    and here from Prime Infrastructure

    Alex, Suwa
    You can still monitor interfaces with the following workaround (which works for me):
    Under Design > Monitoring Configuration:
    From the tree on the left, expand Features > Interface Health
    If needed, select the interface parameters to poll and the polling intervals, provide a name to your template and then click "Save as new template"
    Under Deploy > Monitoring Deployment:
    Locate your template and click the green "Deploy" button
    Select which devices you want to poll, or just select a group like "Routers", Switches etc.
    That should do the trick and information should show up after few minutes.
    Hope it helps,
    Tomer
    BTW- you can also perform the same for device health, by using "Device Health" Metrics template under "Design".

  • IPhone and Amazon Prime movies

    I currently have an Android phone and an Amazon Prime account.  This allows me to download - free- thousands of movies and TV shows.  I am thinking of upgrading my phone, and an iPhone is high on my list.  This would integrate well with my other Apple products: MacBook Pro, iPad, and iPod.
    Question that I have though is there an app on iPhone to dowload and view movies from Amazon?  Since that is mainly an Android site I am concerned about compatability...
    Thanks,

    Nope. No love for Amazon Prime in the App store.
