4S won't power down only go to sleep mode.

4S top button won't power off only go to sleep mode. How can I power the phone down?

Thanks - Sometimes this works and then it doesn't always do the trick. I wonder if there is a combination of buttons that could be pushed to shut the phone down?

  • Zen Vision:M 30GB won't power down; any ide

I've had a 30GB Zen Vision M for a couple of months now! Awesome player, went through the usual round of recognition problems, but it's been working fine of late. My problem is, it won't power down now. When I try to power down, the unit says it's powering down, the dispaly goes black except for the battery icon. And it stops there. The blue backlight on the menu buttons stays on, the battery icon stays on, and eventually it turns off after 5 minutes because of being idle. Not a terrible problem I know, but a real niusance. I am running the most current firmware (have been for a while). I've tried resetting and clean-up. No change. I'm afraid of trying to reinstall the firmware, in case I have the same problem that many others are having, and go from a good player with a power issue, to a player that does nothing. I can't see it being the power switch itself, since it powers up fine, and tries to power down. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. birder

    Hello Dsgrov,
    Welcome to Creative forums!
You can get a lot of results if you search "Zen Vision M not charging" on the search box.

  • My iPod won't power down?

    Hello
I have an iPod Nano that I keep on a radio/alarm clock thing. Sometimes when I take it off it won't power down. Does anyone know how I can get it to power down?

SOmetimes you just have to wait a few seconds after pausing it and/or removing it from the dock before shutting it down. This is normal. If it still won't shut down after ten seconds or so, you might try holding the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo to reset it - then see if it'll shut down.
    Cheers!

  • Ipod won't power down

I can't get my ipod to power down. It's constantly staying on, draining the battery. It won't power down automatically or manually by holding down play/pause.

I found another question and answer about the same issue, and was able to correct the problem.

  • 5th Gen 60G Won't Power Down-NO SLEEP

My 5th gen 60g's are not powering down, the backlight will go off, but they will NOT power down! I've reset, re-installed and used factory defaults, but they still drain down the battery because they WON"T SHUT OFF

I'm looking into the same problem. A friend has a 5G 30GB video that's having insomnia. I've restored it a couple of times using itunes 8.0.1, and the firmware is version 1.3.
It's got a few problems. One is that it won't go to sleep by itself at all. If I enable the sleep menu option and select it, it "sorta tries to" go to sleep - i.e. the clickwheel stops responding but the screen stays on (if the backlight is set to "always on" then that also stays on). The clickwheel stops responding to swizzling until I press a button.
Also, when I do a reset (hold down center/menu buttons) it forgets all the menu and clickwheel settings when it reboots and even asks me to choose the language again. I believe this only started happening in the last couple of weeks. I don't know if a firmware upgrade triggered it.
It's chewing up the battery very quickly the way it is. I've loaned the owner my old 20GB photo for the time being and this one will sit on a charger until a solution appears
I hope someone at apple spots this and writes a patch!
    Thanks
    Matt.

  • Muvo T200 Won't Power down or pause

I bought a muvo t200 for my husband for his birthday (as a match to my own). Aftger upgrading the firmware to .03.03 it will turn on, but won't pause or power down. About one in three times, pressing the power down button causes it to either skip to the designated shortcut or go to the options. the rest of the menu seems to be working ok.
    Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance for helping out!
    - Clarinda

Can you try resetting it to see if that helps?
Insert and remove a straightened paperclip from the Reset Hole.
If this does not work, you probably need to format the player.
WARNING: This step deletes all your player's content. If possible, back up all your player's content on your computer before proceeding.
    1. Make sure your player is connected to your computer and you are logged on in Administrator mode. For details about Administrator mode, see your operating system's documentation.
    2. In Windows Explorer, right-click your player and select Format.

  • Macbook won't power down

Bought a brand new Aluminum Macbook 4 days ago, and it worked perfectly for the fisrt 3 days, but today it has decided to not power down or let me log off. When I try to shut it down, it acts normally at first, closing out all my open apps but then it just does nothing and won't turn off.

Have you tried holding down the power (on/off) button to force shut down?

  • G4 won't shut down only restarts

I've been using the comptuer without a battery & it was working fine. There was a blackout on Saturday, though computer was not on at time. Sunday computer worked fine, but printer didn't work. When I went to shut down computer it just restarted.
Bought new battery today. Reset PMU & installed new battery. Started computer with only keyboard & monitor attached. Worked OK & shut down OK. Then reattached perpherials & now won't shut down again.
What should I do? Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks, Fish

Thanks for the input Hatter. Can you tell me how to do the fsck -fy procedure or tell me where to find the directions?
For the longest time, when I read " fsck -fy" I actually thought the writer was politely swearing. I really have no idea what it is or does, but found some sketetal instructions in the discussions, so tried it. But I don't have enough info to do it correctly.
I am more in favor of reset nvram from inside Open
    Firmware
    cmd opt of
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
    reset-all
which I think does a better job dealing or clearing
corrupt nvram or device tree on MDDs and later Macs.
Also, I have no idea what you are talking about, where or how to do it. Open Firmware?? Is this something I open up? where is it? etc.
Now that you mention it, buying a new hub makes sense if your other suggestions don't work.
I hope I hear from you again. Thanks for your help. Fish

  • MacBook pro won't shut down only after sync with iTunes?

MacBook pro stays on blue screen with spinning gear when I try to shut down only if I have synced either an iPhone or iPad with iTunes. If i have not synced with iTunes the shut is ok.
Any suggestions would be great :)

I had the same problem and just fixed it.
    What I did:
    - Launch Disk Utility > Select Macintosh HD > Verify Disk
Let the Verify run until it's done
    - If you are seeing any error try the Repair disk
It's possible you need to restart (holding cmd+r while restarting)
    - Next I did a verify disk permissions and a repair disk permissions
    - reboot
After this the shutdown issue was gone!
Hope this solves your problem as well.

  • I don't think my computer is completely shutting down.  I think it is only going into sleep mode.  When I hit the power button, it turns off immediately instead of shutting down.

I don't think my Mac Pro is completely shutting down.  When I hit the power button, it just turns off immediately instead of going through the normal shut down procedures.  I heard that I should try resetting the SMC, which involves removing the power cord.  However, when I remove and replace the power cord, it turns on automatically, so I can't even properly reset that to see if it is the issue.  Is this probably a power supply issue?
Actually, in case this information helps... The computer went into sleep mode the other day, and would not come back.  This is a work computer that I use for our photography business, and at this point I am just trying to run it as a drive to get the photos onto our new computer, but this issue is keeping us from doing so.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Try a SMC reset.

  • RAID won't power down and then lost one of the 2 drives

I tried to power down my RAID before leaving the studio last night and it would not shut down. Both RAID drives were functioning when I shut down my G5. I didn't shut down power to the RAID for fear I might corrupt or lose some files.
Now one of the two drives (the lower one I think, labled Drive 2) is not mounting. I still haven't unplugged it. What should my next step be? HELP!!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Brian,
    1) If you don't have a good backup policy, this should spur you to ensure you have one. You should ALWAYS have a backup policy, even with protected storage like Xserve RAID. Heck, large organizations have full offsite backups of their data on multi-million-dollar EMC Symmetrix and IBM Shark systems. Back up everything you can't afford to lose at a moment's notice.
    2) Once you have a backup, you may wish to upgrade to the 1.5 firmware, if you haven't already done so.

Connected wirelessly. Printer goes offline for all PCs in my LAN. Attempting to power down printer with power button results in the printer endlessly displaying message "powering down, please wait" but printer never shuts down. Manually unplugging the printer and turning back brings the printer back online. Did not see any similar threads on this site. Any help appreciated. Thanks

  • IPhone 4s won't power down

Recently I have noticed that my iphone will not power down.  I go to turn it off and it goes through the process of shutting itself down and then after two seconds magically turns itself back on again.  After this happening several times I have tried pretty much everything to fix it.  I have tried resetting the settings, deleting data and settings, full restore and cleaned out the charging port but all to no avail.  The problem continues.  Has anyone actually had this problem fixed?  Would be nice to be able to power my phone off, especially with filights to catch in the near future.
