550 5.7.1 NDR's as mail volume from IIS Virtual SMTP server to Exchange 2010 increases

We have a virtual win 2008 server that has a Virtual SMTP server running via IIS. A separate application on this server drops emails in the pickup directory to forward to our Exchange 2010 environment and this works fine. The odd issue is that as the volume
of messages being dropped in the pickup directory increases to over around 500 per minute we see a huge increase of bounced emails ending up in badmail directory on this server. The NDR we receive from our exchange environment states the following
550 5.7.1 Anonymous clients does not have permissions to send as this sender
As soon as we throttle this application the issue stops. And the same emails that bounced can be resubmitted with no issues
This particular virtual SMTP instance sends to only a handful of mailboxes in our organization, but it does send a lot of messages
We currently have a receive connector for all internal relay servers, and this server is called out in the accepted IP range and the message rate is sent to unlimited. Here are the edited version of the details of one of the internal relay receive connectors
on one of our hub transport servers. Is there something we have setup on the these connectors that might be causing this?

Just to clarify, this is not a pickup directory on an Exchange server but on a Windows 2008 server running an SMTP Virtual server in IIS 6.0. The problem happens only when the message volume from this server to Exchange increases to over ~500 messages a
minute. When that happens the messages get bounced from Exchange with the following info in the NDR
550 5.7.1 Anonymous clients does not have permissions to send as this sender
If we resubmit all the bounce messages at a lower volume per minute we do not see the issue. I'm still working on replicating the issue now that we have logging turned up on the receive connectors.
In addition some messages are being bounced with the following NDR message
554 5.6.0 Invalid message content
These messages are always between 65-70KB and have around 200 recipients
In the Exchange receive logs for the receive connector for these messages we see the following message (with different sizing)
A parsing error has occurred:MIME content error:
Singletext value size
(32781)exceeded allowed maximum
(32768).
The messages dropped in this pick-up  directory can be anywhere from 1KB to 10MB, so it's not that it's viewing each batch as a single email but something different with this particular email. I've tried searching for where to increase this MIME value
but can't find out where it is stored in Exchange.

  • Security mails from Microsoft cant be delivered to Exchange 2010

    Hi there,
I have strange issue with delivering e-mails from Microsoft account team to my Exchange 2010 users.
That is single Exchange 2010 server scenario with Microsoft antispam features installed.
There is one setting that is affecting behavior of that: Sender-ID filtering. If it is configured as reject messages, the authentication e-mails are rejected with error:
    550 5.7.1
Missing purported responsible address,MissingPRA,No valid PRA
I was doing some research around the Sender-ID filter and found this:https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997242(v=exchg.141).aspx pointing
    to this:
    http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc4407.txt
    (see chapter 2, points 5 and 6)
And Im thinking that the From: header is too long for the filter having 133 characters...
    From: =?windows-1250?Q?T=FDm,=20kter=FD=20se=20star=E1=20o=20=FA=E8ty=20Microsoft?= <[email protected]>
    See https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2822 chapter 2.1.1
And if from header is not read properly, there is no other chance to define PRA.

Do anyone knows the limits of header lines in the Exchange 2010 Antispam Filters?

I have tested it deeply and strange thing gets even stranger:
If I send entire email with telnet the difference between error and accepting message by server is comma in From: header. so:
Message is not accepted with that line:

  • Sent Mail from IPAD using Mobile Iron and Exchange 2010

    Hi all,
Not sure you can help me with this one but i thought i would give it a shot.
I am running Exchange 2010. Users can access email using iPad and other approved devices using Mobile Iron (onboarding app).
I had a user who received a HTML message wiht an embedded image, when he forwarded that image on (adding some comments) the recipients of that email where not able to the image as intended. the image was no longer embedded it was added as an attachment.
    where the embedded image used to be it said;
"THe linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed or deleted. Verifiy that the link points to the correct file location"
When the message was resent from a Windows 7 Outlook client it was received as intended.
I have not been able to reproduce the issue since. the email was received and forwarded in HTML format.
under Settings > Mail, I think there’s a setting called “Load remote images”, This is turned on.
Im pretty sure this is not a mobile iron issue but an message format issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Sorry for my interrupting.
Based on your description, I understand that forward an email with an embedded image from mobile devices, then
the image will display a “red x” (with error message as you find) when we receive this email in Outlook. Would you please let us know edition information of the Outlook which you use to receive the email? Meanwhile, please refer to following KB and
check if it’s suitable for current situation.
Images in email message disply a "red x" instead
of the image if the Cache value in the registry is incorrectly configured
If anything I misunderstand or any update, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • Mail falling apart after adding SMTP server

I recently added a second SMTP server to Mail, which started a string of frustrating bugs, which I haven't ever come across before...
I have 4 different email accounts setup in Mail, and once I added the second SMTP server, one started giving me an "Invalid Directory" error when trying to save the preferences. After searching these forums, it seemed the best way to deal with it was to archive my messages and delete/resetup the account. I did this without too much hassle, but now I'm getting more frustrating bugs...
Messages randomly will lose their content: the subject appears in the list of messages, but the body of the message (which was previously there) has completely disappeared.
Messages won't delete. They become greyed out and the Delete button changes to Undelete when I try to send them to the trash. I searched this problem as well, which led me to Rebuild the offending accounts, but whilst this gets rid of the deleted emails, I suddenly get the content of my inbox copied from another account: the emails in one inbox are also in the rebuilt account and any emails in the rebuilt account disappear.
I also get the same problem when trying to Move emails to Mailboxes: greyed out, but not moved.
These bugs are happening in all my accounts, including RSS feeds.
I hope this makes sense (it all seems a bit convoluted), it's pretty much become a deal breaker for me - I'm tempted to shift away from Mail altogether.

For others having similar problems: it seems to have helped to remove and recreate all accounts, not just the offending ones. I've had to Rebuild a couple of times since, but Mail seems to have settled down a lot since recreating my accounts.

  • Mail doesn't remember accounts' smtp server

Just got my 2nd MacBook Pro. Decided to try Apple Mail one more time and not install Thunderbird. So far everything seems to be working. I have 2 POP email accounts set up according to documentation. But every time I send mail from either account, I get a pop-up window with this message:
"This message could not be sent because your account does not have a preferred outgoing mail server. Select an outgoing mail server from the list below."
I have in fact configured the SMTP server for each account. There are 2 SMTP servers listed in the dialog, as expected. Every time, I select the correct server and click the button labeled "Always use this server".
The message is sent, but this happens again every time I send an email message from either account. I have restarted Mail. I have rebooted the machine. It persists. If I can't get this corrected I'm switching to Thunderbird and hoping it acts better on Yosemite. Sorry if this is posted in wrong community. I couldn't find one for Apple Mail app.
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply and the suggestions.
The email accounts are on 2 different hosting services where I have sites hosted. Everything is set up according to the Help in the Mail app, using the settings given by the providers. Those settings work fine with Thunderbird mail client on my old MacBook. On the new machine I have set up the Mail app with these same settings, per the Mail app's Help, which has the same info as in your links. Everything works, except that every time I send a message, I get asked to choose the SMTP (outgoing) server. Even if I did not originally set this up correctly for one of the accounts (and I really think I did it right), I would think that the "Always use this server" button would fix it so the app doesn't ask me to select the SMTP server every time I send an email.

  • Mail will not send out e-mails from my gmail smtp server

I am using Mail to send and receive e-mails. I have 3 different accounts that I use, of which two are GMail acounts. These two acounts receive e-mails as normal, but upon replying or otherwise sending out e-mail it refuses to send. It appears that the SMTP server is offline. I have re-entered my credentials etc, but this did not fix the problem. Can anyone help me to get over this annoying issue?
I am running OSX 10.10.1 Yosemite

I am experiencing the same issue. All has been working fine & it just suddenly started today. OSX 10.10.1 Exactly as you describe. I have the same email account settings on my iPad & have no problems there, only on my Mac with 10.10.1

    Hi,
Based on the description, you want to remove attachments from email when you forward to another user. Per my knowledge, there is no way to meet this requirement. Here is an article about attachment inspection in transport rule for your reference.

  • SQL Server 8 / Server 2003 + Exchange 2010 E-Mail Notification

I was asked to setup a mail profile on the SQL 8 server we have running on Server 2003 so it can send emails via exchange. Every guide online is telling me to install an exchange client but I have no idea what an exchange client is? Anyone got any guides
    for this?

    Hi Neurotox,
According to your description, we need to verify if you use SQL Server 2008 and
want to setup a mail profile in SQL Server database for sending an email or notification. If yes, as other post, you need to configure database mail in SQL Server. In SQL Server 2000 , it supports MAPI profiles to send email instead of an
SMTP server. SQL Mail requires a MAPI-compliant mail server (Microsoft Exchange Server) and a MAPI client (Microsoft Outlook).
And now it uses an SMTP server to send mail. When you specify the related accounts associated with the profile, you can use
an external e-mail application, such as 126, 163, yahoo and so on.
Only set the right SMTP server name, port number, and
in Basic Authentication option, enter the same email ID along with the valid password of the email ID. It can send and receive e-mail.
    For more information, see:

  • How can I configure Mac Mail to use the correct SMTP server?

I have successfully set up Mac Mail to use a new e-mail account. Inbound and outbound mail is working just fine. However, I am seeing something odd when I create a new message or reply to an existing message. The outbound account that shows is not that which has been configured for the account. What are my troubleshooting steps?

One of the first things to check in Mail Preferences, Composing:

  • No record of mail sent from iPhone on Gmail server

When I send mail from my Gmail account on my iPhone, I can't find record of it in my Gmail account when I log on from my computer. This results in me sometimes sending emails twice, because I can't see that I've already responded. Can anyone help please?
    Tech specs:
    iPhone 3GS
I have my Gmail pushed to my iPhone inbox instead of logging on
    Thank you!

You decide how to set gmail up as "pop" or "imap" on the gmail site:
    https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=mail&passive=true&rm=false& continue=https%3A%2F%2Fmail.google.com%2Fmail%2F%3Fnsr%3D1%26ui%3Dhtml%26zy%3Dl& ltmpl=default&ltmplcache=2&hl=en
    Then go to "settings", "forwardingandPOP/IMAP"
    Gmail works best as imap.
These are the best instructions I've seen to set gmail up & have it work properly:
    http://complexdiagrams.com/2009/01/19/imap-for-gmail-mailapp-iphone/
Follow the instructions mentioned in comment no.1 regarding drafts. If you set gmail up this way, it will work.

  • Mail won't connect to SMTP server when using wireless instead of ethernet

I receive the following error message ONLY when I am online via a wireless connection, but not when I am online via an ethernet cord:
*This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered. The connection to the server "smtp.XXXXX.com" on port 2525 timed out.*
(note that XXXX is just the name of my mail server that I've removed for security reasons)
I am able to receive email fine regardless of whether I'm using a wireless or ethernet connection.
Any thoughts? I've occasionally run into this issue before (at coffee shops and such) and think it may have something to do with the type of wireless connection (too weak, low security, other?) I'm particularly stumped about this one though since it's simply the wireless network at my college which has worked fine in the past (though perhaps they did change something?)
    Thanks!

That's because the internet provider whom you are connecting to via wireless is blocking that port/server address as a security measure.
Unless you have an account with whom the host is, you wont be able to send emails...
you could try setting the outgoing port to one of the following you could have some luck, no guarantee's though...
    21, 25, 5521, 5525, 7721, 7725
    hope that works

  • Apple Mail Repeatedly Using Wrong Outgoing SMTP Server

    Hi
SInce upgrading to Mavericks my Apple Mail is extremely confused.  It is trying to send emails using SMTP servers to other accounts.
For example, one of my Gmail accounts will send using a outgoing server from my university email.  The sender name works out correctly, but it is tedious to sort through finding which outgoing server will work and provide the right user name.
My me mail keeps asking which outgoing server to use.
Is there a one and done solution to this?  I'm already trying to get used to Outlook and Thunderbird, but frankly did used to like Mail.

I solved this with the following steps:
Change the "Outgoing Mail Server" to "None"
    Compose a new email
    Click the send button
A window will come up that allows you to select the outgoing mail server (this is the same window that appeared when Mail was originally having connection issues to the mail server)
Select the outgoing server you want to use (in my case, my company's exchange server) and send the email
You should now find that the "Outgoing Mail Server" has been set back to the one it should be, and all your mail is actually being sent via this server.
