5th Gen 60G issues

Posting a rundown of events that led up to my iPod croaking on me.
-DLed (from iTunes) a few songs and tried to push them over to my Pod. It appeared all went well, so I clicked the Eject icon next to the Pod entry in Tunes (the small circle one, not the button near the bottom of Tunes).
-I got the Win notification tone of disconnection, and disconnected the Pod. However, the Do Not Disconnect message was still displayed on the Pod. I checked the Pod library, and it was completely blank-no new songs, no old songs, nothing. I tried reconnecting it to Tunes, and got the Chkdsk message, saying one of the Tunes files was corrupt.
-I ran chkdsk, with directions to repair all errors, and also DLed the new Pod updater. The updater said it failed the firmware update. Rebooted, brought everything back up, and tried it again. This time, updater came back and said it couldn't mount the Pod. The Pod now gives only a message saying to connect it to the PC and use Tunes to restore. However, Tunes doens't recognize it.
-Tried changing the drive letter associated with the Pod, but that hasn't helped.
Anyone got some suggestions? I'm heading off to call Support now, but I'll check back here periodically. Thanks in advance for any help.

My iPod is sad.
iPod displays a "sad iPod" icon.
What does this picture on my iPod mean?
Also, there is a pretty comprehensive post written by another forum member which is about the sad iPod icon or the folder and ! icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

  • 5th Gen 60G Won't Power Down-NO SLEEP

My 5th gen 60g's are not powering down, the backlight will go off, but they will NOT power down! I've reset, re-installed and used factory defaults, but they still drain down the battery because they WON"T SHUT OFF

I'm looking into the same problem. A friend has a 5G 30GB video that's having insomnia. I've restored it a couple of times using itunes 8.0.1, and the firmware is version 1.3.
It's got a few problems. One is that it won't go to sleep by itself at all. If I enable the sleep menu option and select it, it "sorta tries to" go to sleep - i.e. the clickwheel stops responding but the screen stays on (if the backlight is set to "always on" then that also stays on). The clickwheel stops responding to swizzling until I press a button.
Also, when I do a reset (hold down center/menu buttons) it forgets all the menu and clickwheel settings when it reboots and even asks me to choose the language again. I believe this only started happening in the last couple of weeks. I don't know if a firmware upgrade triggered it.
It's chewing up the battery very quickly the way it is. I've loaned the owner my old 20GB photo for the time being and this one will sit on a charger until a solution appears
I hope someone at apple spots this and writes a patch!
    Thanks
    Matt.

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen memory issues?

Hello. My iPod Nano 5th gen is great, and I've been able to use it for 2 years now, and it serves me well. Perfect condition since the day I got it. However, there are some memory issues...
First off, I have only two recorded videos totaling 1 minute and 29 seconds, so it shouldn't take up much memory at all. And I don't have any other videos on my iPod either.
Well, when I go to "About" under "Settings", then it always says that there are only 902 MB left, and it's an 8 GB. What's weirder is that it says that 6.1 GB are being used my audio, and I only have 712 songs. When I select all of the songs that are on my iPod on my PC, then it tells me that it totals to only 3.53 GB. Kinda weird, and I really need this extra space now.
Secondly, I should tell you that I don't use iTunes to syncronize my iPod. I use a third-party program called CopyTrans Manager because it's simpler, easier to navigate, and faster in my opinion. Idk what it is, but it's bothering me. Hopefully some of you can tell me where I can go to eliminate these issues and finally get my iPod back to better use and full memory.
Help me please. I don't know where to go next...
    Thankee.

I don't use iTunes to syncronize my iPod. I use a third-party program called CopyTrans Manager
Contact the manufacturer.  Check with them to determine if the issue is with them.

  • 5th Gen Alarm Issues

I know issues about the alarm feature for 5th Gen iPods have been discussed before. However my iPod alarm feature seems to have stopped working altogether. ..
.. I understand fully how to set up my iPod to wake me up in the morning in conjunction with suitable docked speakers. I have a a Bose Soundock which has successfully been waking me for months. But despite having the correct time zone / time / playlist / volume setting and having the little alarm symbol appear - nothing happens at 7am (or any other time for that matter) anymore .. and yes the speakers are working for gerenal playback.
I've tried resetting the iPod, but this doesn't seem to solve the issue. anyone else experiencing the same thing? Is there somethign else I can try maybe?
Vaio Media Desktop LA2   Other OS   Vista

.. i didn't deny anyone anything. i suggested they get in touch!
.. the solution is simple, if slightly lateral .. delete the clock with the offending alarm attached to it. Recreate a clock with the correct time zone and setup the alarm again. .. so far so good.

  • 5th Gen display issue

Remember Etch a Sketch? My 5th Gen randomly draws horizonal lines across the display which look like one of those old toys at work.If you reset it, you can still see the lines in front of the logo. It was a refurbished unit, and it did this once before right after we got it.Sent it in for repair and they fixed it without replacing any parts (it appeared).I need to know how to fix this for now and in the future. Anybody seen this happen before.

"Sent it in for repair and they fixed it without replacing any parts (it appeared)."
Almost certainly Apple would have replaced the iPod not repaired it.
If it's now out of warranty look at one of the many repair sites such as http://iresq.com/ipod/

  • IPod 5th gen - Pedometer issue

    Hi,
although I have no 'audio problem' when using the pedometer, I've noticed that the Pedometer counts differently if used with or without music.
I mean that, doing the same route:
    - if my iPod is not playing music, the pedometer counts about 3300 steps (and it should be the right number of steps)
    - if it's playing music, the pedometer counts many steps less (about 1200)
Have someone else had got this issue?

Any message or anything when it stops?
Does it then go back to no update showing?
    What if you try again?

  • ITunes claims my 5th gen ipod has old software, but won't let me update

I have two ipods... one an old 3rd gen scroll wheel ipod that just seemed to go kaput... it wasn't showing up in the iTunes source list or on my desktop. So I followed some directions on the apple site to try to restore it:
    "Step 1
    Delete the file using Terminal
    Open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities).
    Type: sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/iPodDriver.kext
    Press Return.
Enter the administrator account password when prompted.
    Quit Terminal.
Restart the computer (From the Apple menu, choose Restart).
    Step 2
    Reinstall iTunes
Download the latest version of iTunes from the iTunes download page.
    Install iTunes.
Restart the computer after the installation has completed.
    Connect iPod.
    Step 3
    Delete the iPod.plist file
Remove the following file in the your home directory and launch the iPod updater again
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ipod.plist"
Anyway none of this worked for my old ipod (I think it's dead) but here's my new problem. Since I did this I plugged in my new ipod, 5th gen black 60g, and I got an error message that said:
"Some of the items in the itunes library were not copied to the iPod "Honey" because your iPod software is too old. Go to the summary tab in iPod preferences and click Update to get the latest iPod software update."
When I went to the Summary page the whole "Version" section is grayed out and it says "Your iPod is up to date."
What is going on and how can I fix it?

I am having the same problem. I'm wanting to update to iOS 7, the 'Update Now' button is available, but it says I can't download due to no Internet connection. I DO have an Internet connection, but either way it won't let me update. Help!

  • IPod Touch 5th gen. wi-fi issues

I recently purchased an iPod touch 5th gen. I have had no issues except with he wi-if connection. Every time I hit the sleep button, or it times out, the wi-fi disconnects. Every time I want to use my iPod, I wake it back up, and sometimes the wi-if will auto connect, but most times I have to re connect manually. I have searched and haven't found anything too helpful. I went to the apple store near me, and they had no idea what was happening. I was wondering if this is some sort of setting? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you have this problem with all networks or only your network? If only your network that points to a problem with your network.
Have you powered off and then back on your router?

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen w/iOS 7.0.2 - Delayed 'Passcode' Lock Entry Issue

    Hi,
This evening I've updated my iPod Touch 5th Gen from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7.0.2 via the 'Over the Air' method, which went well initialy.
Following using the device, upgrading all of the apps and performing a couple of backups to iCloud, I have noticed that there is an issue with entering of the 'Passcode Lock' code to unlock the device.  There is a 25 to 30 second delay in me pressing a digit key on the 'Unlock' screen and the screen registering that I've entered a key.  Has anyone else experienced this?
I assume that this is an issue brought about due to the security fix that has been implemented within the iOS 7.0.2 update.  I am about to submit a Bug Report to Apple regarding this.
At present, I have upgrading both of my iPhone 4S and the iPad 3rd Gen devices to iOS 7.0 and they experience no issues at all - working fine.  I guess I will hold off upgrading these two devices at the moment.

I've been playing with the iPod, namely attempting to type text - all applications are affected.  I hadn't been typing text when I was playing with it.  I think the keyboard libraries have been corrupted.
I have updated tge Bug Report and will plan to wipe and restore device using iTunes 11.1.  If this is successfull, will use the same approach for the other devices.

  • Shuffle issue using 5th Gen with Ford's SYNC

I'm using a 5th gen iPod in my 2009 Ford Focus with the SYNC system. Almost everything works just as it should, except SYNC's "shuffle on" command. When used with artists, genres, or playlists, SYNC only seems to build a very short shuffle list of some 12-15 songs, which it repeats until I repeat the selection of artist, genre, or playlist. Then a new short shuffle list gets built and played, over and over, etc., etc. SYNC seems unable to shuffle all songs by my prolific artists, in my well-stocked genres, and in my lengthy playlists in one go, unlike my iPod's built-in shuffle setting.
Ford recommended trying SYNC shuffle with the iPod's shuffle setting turned off, then with it turned on. Doesn't seem to make a difference. They're out of ideas for now. Anyone out there have this problem? Have you found a solution? If so, would you share your experience, please? Thanks!

    Absolutely have had this issue.
Here's a fix (but I hate it we have to do it this way):
You have to make sure your iPod's volume is turned all the way up. The static will clear. I haven't found a way around this. The Ford system ***** for that reason. Shouldn't have to rely on our iPods running at full volume in order to work. Seems to kill the battery quicker. But hey, at least you'll have clear sound.
Lemme know if it worked for you.

  • Known issue: 5th gen ipods do not work reliably with 10.6.1 (snow leopard)

I just got off the phone with Apple support - there is a known issue preventing 5th gen ipods from connecting to Snow Leopard computers.
I can confirm that it's a 10.6 issue - everything worked fine on 10.5.8 with iTunes 9, but right after the upgrade, no connect (not even in Disk Utility). Apple's working on a fix, but no ETA yet. My 1st gen touch works just fine.
If you attempt to connect, it'll hang Disk Utility and may require a hard-boot to reset everything.
So we just need to be patient.

yeeahhhhh... I just plugged my ipod classic 5th gen, 30g into my brand new macbook pro... and it doesn't show anything up. Didn't even aweknowledge the ipod as a device. and worst of all... it said it was connected so i couldn't take it out but i had to since it wasn't doing anything so i unplugged it and now... it froze...
If i reset my ipod or wait till the batteries run out and then connect it to my pc. will it work still?

  • Time Capsule (5th Gen) - 2.4GHz Issues

    Hi,
Strange behavior with my Time Capsule 5th Gen:
I was having issues with my iOS devices dropping off of the 2.4GHz network, so I created a separately named 5GHz wireless network which works fine.
However, now I am seeing that my iOS devices (and iMac) can no longer connect to the 2.4GHz network at all.
When I try to connect, one of the following things will happen on my iOS devices:
    - "Incorrect Password" error message (when I know the password I entered is indeed correct)
    - Password request will keep popping up after entering the password over and over again
    - "Unable to join network" error message
    - Device will ignore attempt to connect to the 2.4GHz network and instead automatically connects to the 5GHz network
I have done the following to troubleshoot:
    On iOS devices:
    - Reset network settings
    - "Forget" the wireless networks
    - Reboot
    On my Time Capsule:
    - Factory Reset and rebuilt my configs from scratch
    - Reboot
    On my iMac:
    - Verified only one other 2.4GHz wireless network nearby, and with a weak signal
I can use the 5GHz just fine, but it drives me crazy that I cannot get the 2.4GHz wireless capability to work properly.
Is my Time Capsule defective? Don't know what else to try....
    Thanks,
    Kevin

It's out of warranty (purchased October 2013) and I didn't buy the AppleCare (I find I usually don't use extended warranties).
Having said that, I've done another factory reset and reconfiguration and it appears to be working (at least for now).
If this is temporary, I'll just need to purchase a new one.
The AC model seems to be unreliable for a lot of people..
But there is a way to get applecare .. If nothing you have already purchased is less than 12months old you can still buy an Apple TV.
I wrote this up sometime ago so let me just paste it in.
If the TC is less than 2years old, buy an Apple TV and buy applecare for it. Do not unwrap the ATV .. you can sell it on ebay unopened.
If you already own an ATV less than 12months old or a computer you can still qualify for AppleCare, then buy it.. The rule is the peripheral item must be purchased within 2 years of the item under applecare.
So the total warranty is 3years; same as any computer you buy.
iPad or iPod applecare does not cover a TC.. ATV does.
Then get Apple to replace your TC as part of the AppleCare.. This seems to be the best solution. Please double check with Apple staff in the store..
See if they consider 12month warranty adequate.. if they refuse to help you because you are 366 days into the purchase.. ask if I buy ATV with AppleCare will it cover the TC.
Please relate your experiences on the apple discussions post.. as I think it helpful to share this around.
In Australia at least the AppleCare for Apple TV is $35 which makes it cheap.. you can also buy applecare on a refurbished ATV so you might not even need to pay full price for it.. if you don't need it just sell it.
Then exercise the warranty. The T&C clearly covers the Airport (which includes the TC). for up to two years before purchase and then within the applecare period.

If you have iOS 8 and a computer running Yosemite.. some strange stuff is happening due to the handoff protocols apple has developed.

Running the devices on different bands may actually be a work around but something is causing issues.
Try setting a fixed channel on your 2.4ghz and although I am not sure it works on 5ghz as well. Fixing channels might help to stop some of the handoff stuff happening which I think is giving you trouble.
Apple has written some documents specifically for wireless issues with iOS.

  • App gets stuck on start-up screen at launch iPod Touch 5th Gen - full disk issue

Can't do anything. IPod touch 5th generation.
    thoughts?
This is all that I can see...
A couple more notes... I have the latest version of iOS and 2.7GB of free space.
I have rebooted to release memory and it still gets stuck on the intro screen.
Are there any users out there who have this working on a 5th Gen iPod Touch?

    Hi,
there are some users that have run into the same issue, we have not been able to reproduce this issue which means that we need your help.
If you could give us the crash logs that would help a lot, they are available at the following locations on your desktop once you've connected the device to it:
    OSX: /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/DeviceName/PSTouchphone....log
    Windows: C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\DeviceName\PSTouchphone....log
    The known workarounds are:
Uninstall and reinstall from iTunes with USB (normally works)
If that doesn't work the only known workaround is to upgrade your iOS version.
Did PS Touch always behave like this on your iPod? I.e. - when did you first install and start PS Touch?
If not can you recall how you installed PS Touch the first time?
Over iTunes or AppStore? And do you recall how you updated it?
    thanks,
    Ignacio

  • Ipod touch 5th gen issue

i recently purchased an ipod touch 5th gen and have used it fine, but now i have a black screen.
it is unresponsive to the home button but if i adjust sound i get the image showing what level the sound is on, and pressing home sleep seems to take pictures.
i have tried charging it and it makes a sound showing its charging, but doesnt respond in any other way, and connecting to the computer didnt help either
    any ideas

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 5th gen iPod video issues

Ok. I'm on my second iPod here. Just got this one as a gift and am having trouble loading vidoe and photos to it. I'm on a Titanium PowerBook running the latest version of OS X. My boyfriend is on a pc and also has a 5th gen iPod. I connect either iPod to his pc, and all the tabs that should be there come up in the summary in his iTunes. It says my iPod is up to date. I connect to my computer and only the Summary, Music, Podcasts and Contacts tabs show up. I'm on the latest version of iTunes as well. It does say, however, that my iPod is Windows formatted. I take my iPod to work and connect to my G5, and everything is fine there too. So what do I have to do to set up my laptop at home to be able to upload videos and photos to this iPod???? I'm not finding anything in the discussions that's hitting my particular problem....
