7.1.2 update + iPhone 4s = 1% battery and never charging.

I recently did the update to 7.1.2  on my iPhone 4s. The issue I have had since then has been the battery reading 1%. It has been left on the charger with no change in status. Did the simple restart with the home button and power/lock button, still the same. Went into settings and did the restart through settings, still the same. I have done everything short of a restore. The problem lies that I am in Los Angeles and my computer is in New Jersey. Is there a fix for the issue that I am having without having to  do a complete restore to my phone? Please help as it is my life line while I am out here.

Hello Rkrider09,
This may be a simple case of a mismatch between the battery's actual state and the state reported by your battery indicator.

It's probably the battery indicator, not the battery itself.  Run it down until it shuts down automatically.  Ignore any low battery alerts that appear.  Then, charge it overnight with the 10W charger.  That should clear things for you.

If you did the update through iTunes, try going into the Settings App on your iPhone and doing the Software Update in there. The same thing happened to me, and the wireless update worked.

Sounds like you have a phone that was hacked to unlock it. Updating has re-locked it to the original carrier. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Contact them.

iPod touch not responding and has white screen. Tried to restore, drain battery and re-charge etc but still nothing. What can I do?

Try what you have not tried so far. You may have tried all and the Apple store maybe in order.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If you bought the iPhone from an authorized store/vendor, you should have taken the iPhone to them or any other Apple Store for evaluation under warranty.
Once it has been opened by non-Apple entity, Apple will not do anything for this.

Recently updated iphone 4 now have no service or always searching I appear to get signal sometimes but one bar and weak 3G but this will go within a minute so is useless I am joy using my phone as much due to this so start off day with 100% to come to find my phone at the end of the day with 14% this is usually not the case as I do not have to charge it as often as I am I am disappointed with apple and want a solution does anyone have any ideas ????

Reset network settings.  Settings => General => Reset => Reset Network settings.  You will have to log back into any Wifi network you had saved on your phone. It will also make sure you are connecting to the nearest cell tower.
Reset phone, hold down both Home and Sleep/Wake buttons and continue hold them down until the Apple logo appears on screen.
Reset All Settings. Settings => General => Reset => Reset All Settings.  You won't lose any data or content, but you will have to go into settings and turn on or off anything you have previously turned on or off.
Run the battery all the way down to the point where the phone will not turn back on.  Recharge the phone overnight using a wall charger, not a USB port on your computer.

  • HT4623 Updated iTunes to latest version, updated iPhone to iOS 7 and now my phone won't work at all.  Won't connect to my WiFi, and won't talk to iTunes . . . Now what do I do?

I now have a useless $700 phone.  Updated iTunes to latest version (and can't get it to revert back to an earlier version), updated iPhone (iPhone5) to iOS 7 and now it won't talk to iTunes, nor will it connect to my WiFi.  What should I try now?

If it won't talk at all to iTunes, you can hold down the power and home button for 10 seconds, it will power off, this is ok, then let go of the power button while holding the home button until iTunes sees it as a device in recovery mode.  You can try to reinstall iOS7 and then restore.

Updated iphone 3GS and all ok apart from loss of all emails previously received and sent, can I recover these?

If you read the user guide, you'll realize that the phone is not intended as a storage device.
To prevent just what you are experiencing, contacts are meant to be synched with a program such as Address Book or Outlook.  In the event your phone becomes unusable for any reason, your contacts are protected on your computer.
Same goes for photos.  Photos taken by the iPhone, like any camera, need to be uploaded ASAP to your computer for proper archival and storage.  Again, should something happen to your camera (iPhone) your photos are safe on your computer.
Naturally, you should be backing up your computer regularly as well, storing the backup far away from your computer.

  • HT4623 Updated iPhone 4 to os6 and asked me to restore to factory settings, why?

UPdated iPhone 4 to os6 over wifi and when finished asked me to restore to factory settings and I'm not sure why.

i have no idea why it wont activate just says no sim inserted yet my sim works fine in my partners 3gs so not a faulty sim and phone was working fantastic before i updated the os.
i have no idea what a shsh backup is.
Is there a way i can get the imei number up so i can go and have a rant at orange to see why it wont activate even though it is now a sim free phone or am i best of going to apple store( which i really dont want to do as it cost me best part of £120 for them to do my screen on my ipod touch lol they swapped it no fixing involved)

  • Firmware Update 1.7 drains battery and causes problems for sound

I have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with a SSD. After installing Firmware 1.7 I saw the beach ball over and over even after rebooting... this problem got resolved after I plugged in power cable and is now gone even when it is running on battery. But the sound of my MBP goes randomly on/off when I plug in/out my headphones and the worst problem is that prior to the 1.7 I got up to 5 hours of battery but now only 2:30 hours. I've only 470 cycles of my battery. Resseting the SMC didn't help and unfortuaneltly there is no way of downgrading the firmware. What should I do?? This is definietly a firmware problem which supposedly was released to solve a rare battery problem on some machines not to cause problems on others.

I am seeing this problem as well.
Before the SMC Update 1.7 the battery was fine. After, it hibernated within a half hour of use on battery. Upon wake-up the Service Battery warning is in the battery menu, and the time remaining calculation has gone from several hours at a full charge to less than 10 minutes.
My battery is original MacBookPro8,2; I rarely work on battery, relying on it mostly to keep my computer going while asleep during a half hour commute to/from work. System Information's Power tab reports
    Cycle Count:          19
I plan to try a battery calibration soon; if that fails, then the Apple Store.

  • IPhone 5 getting hot and losing charge quickly

My iPhone loses charge within 5 hours, even on standby or when it's completely turned off. I took to to the apple store and they ran a test and said it was my battery, so I bought a new one. This didn't help. I also tried resetting to factory settings and this didn't work either. And yes I've tried the obvious things like closing apps, turning off Bluetooth, etc. help!

I have had my iphone 4s since April and after the initial required charge I have always chargd it daily every morning for about 90 mins or until it shows 100% charged. But, since middle of last week it is losing charge very quicky coming down from 100% to zero and switching itself off after about 6 hours ?? To give it the best possible chance I have switched off Bluetooth and made sure all apps are off.
I booked an appointment at the Apple Genius bar and after telling me that I need to charge the phone for 6 hours daily regardless of the battery level indicator showing 100% they replaced the battery with a new one and sent me packing. Last night I charged it as advised for at least 6 hours and guess what from 100% to switching itself off due loss of charge took about 6 hours !!!
I will return to the "Genius" Bar on Thursday to try again.

  • Strange behavior from battery and/or charger on my Playbook

I have a Playbook 16gb, about a year old which was working well until about 2 months ago when the micro usb port stopped working.  Turns out a pin was damaged, and I had to have a whole new port installed (cost $75.00) with a 30-day warranty.
Two months later, when the warranty had run out the same problem started happening.  I went to another repair shop this time and was told again, a pin was damaged.  I don't know if the first place gave me a damaged port or never removed the old one. I thought this was really strange, but could not dispute it and again had a new usb port installed ($45.00 this time, and a 90-day warranty).
So this time the usb port is working, and the charge comes across the battery icon to show that the battery is charging, except that it never charges up the battery.  Overnight charging later, the battery indicates the charge is still where it was when I originally started charging - but - I seem to be able to work on the tablet for many hours with the charger attached.  So, the charger does not charge the battery but it seems to work like an electrical cord and keep electricity going into the tablet for as long as I need to use it. Trouble is I can't take the tablet anywhere if I can't guarantee I will find a wall plug to plug into.
So I thought maybe the battery is the problem. I installed Battery Guru, but it says the battery health is 90%.  When I remove the charger the battery level starts to drop, but when I plug it back in, it does not increase, but doesn't decrease either.
Can anyone tell me what is going on?  I don't want to go back to the shop and have to spend more money without a guarantee anything will be fixed.

I think thats fine.  This is a gray area since 2 companies have worked on it.  I don't think you should have to keep paying over and over to get the same thing fixed if it is breaking for no reason.  Is it possible for the last company that repaired it to contact RIM for a possible RMA or other repair options?
