8600 Premium won't auto-select tray based on page size

I just bought the 8600 Premium yesterday, and am absolutely flabbergasted to find that this printer, which is TOUTED for its full capability of handling legal-sized paper can't pick different sizes of paper from Tray 1 and Tray 2 in the same print job!!!  The printer recognizes Tray 2.  In fact, if I remove Tray 1, it prints from Tray 2 just fine.  However, I print a lot of .pdf files with a mixture of letter- and legal-sized pages.  I have used other printers where I can select "Choose paper source by PDF page size," and it will print the whole job, pulling letter-sized pages from Tray 1 and legal from Tray 2.  Why MAKE the 8600 Premium with two trays if it CAN'T pull paper from both trays, based on size settings, during the same job?!!

Seriously?  --That is your "solution?!"
Sure, if I needed a $1,000 printer only, I guess I could do that.  But I don't.  I need an inexpensive, truly functional dual-tray all-in-one.  I thought the HP8600 Premium was it.  Guess not.

How do I get my 8600 premium printer to auto select between tray 1 and tray 2? Right now, i have to pull out tray 1 to get the printer to feed tray 2.

    Hi Retrotriker,
Follow the steps below to properly configure your paper trays.
    1. Touch (right arrow), touch Setup, touch Preferences, and then select Default Tray
    2. Select Tray 2 as the Default tray
    3. Open Printers and Faxes
    4. Right click on printer, and then select Printer Properties
    5. Click on Device Settings tab
    6. On this screen set the media type you have assigned to each tray (Example: tray 1 - Envelopes & Tray 2 - Letter)
    7. Click Apply, and then Ok
    8. When you have an envelope you are printing it will pull from Tray 1
    9. When you have a letter you are printing it will pull from Tray 2

  • PDF auto select paper tray based on paper size

    * this was originally posted here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2586377&tstart=0 but I was informed I was in the wron g forum.
I have a Windows pc only for 1 thing - printing pdfs. My problem is that Windows printer drivers allow me to have auto select paper size/tray depending on if the pdf page is standard or legal. I have not yet found anyway to do this through the mac.
I have a Brother HD-5370 laser printer and need some assistance with the paper auto select. If any one has any suggestions or an actual fix, I am all eras.
I have used Snow Leopard, Leopard as well as 10.4 and the problem is with any pdf viewer I have tried (viewer, adobe reader, other 3rd party which names escape me). The option to auto select printing by pdf page size is selected and the drawers are set correctly. It just won't print how it's supposed to.
    any sugegstions,
    Dan

This has been an issue for at least 3 years now. I have checked for driver sin the past and have tried to look up answers via Brothers website - all to no solution to my problem. It just may be that Brother's printers do not have this feature. The options do show as valid options though.
The printer is currently connected to a Windows pc located on a different floor. So in order to test, I have to move the printer or the mac.

  • Print Booklet won't let me because of multiple page sizes, even if I am using A4 for all the pages

Booklet won't let me because of multiple page sizes, even if I am using A4 for all the pages, this is the error message:
"The active document uses multiple page sizes Print Booklet works only with documents that use a consistent page size."
I am using Indesign CS6 (patches are up to date)

Do you already see this when starting the Print Booklet dialog or later when finally putting out? If you can see the dialog windows, will the preview show all pages in same size?

  • OfficeJet 8600 Premium - Faxes Only Printing from Tray 2

I'm running into an issue with an OfficeJet 8600 Premium on OS X (Lion), but this shouldn't be OS specific.
It appears that incoming faxes are requiring tray 2, even though the default tray is set to 1 and the media lock is off. The printer reports that it's out of paper, even though Tray 1 is full.
I've removed the lower tray assy, checked the paper size settings within the trays, set the default to 2 and back to 1, set the media lock on 2 with the default on 1, rebooted the printer and computer, but nothing seems to make a change in how incoming faxes are printed.
I am successfully able to print from tray 1 with normal print jobs. For some reason, the fax portion of the printer just defaults to tray 2, and I can't find where I can reset that to tray 1...or to follow the defaults of the machine.
    Any thoughts?

so you are telling me the default is tray2 only and the software does not allow you to choose like ALL prior hp!!!!  This is the dumbest software i have ever seen...i have stuggled with this for over a year to only hear that hp decided what i should do!!!!  all my programs select tray 1 for regular paper and tray 2 for medical claims!  yes it is used for two different types of paper....i do not want to change hundreds of documents because hp decided where i should default print and fax from!  is there a fix to allow me the user to select where i would like things printed from....thanks....how stupid are you hp!!!!  why would you take away choices so basic as to where a fax is printed from.....

  • Photosmart 6525- auto select tray

How do i get my photosmart 6525 printer to auto select the correct tray (main or photo) without having to go into preferences and manually switch it? I print on 4 x 6 for photos and then use regular 8 x 10 paper to print word documents.  Going into the settings to switch trays each time is frustrating.  Anyone have a solution?

    Hello jtj360 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you would like to have the printer switch the print setting automatically.
This, unfortunately, is not an option.  You will have to change the print setting manually.

  • P2035 not auto selecting tray

For one of my users (P2035 / Windows 8) we are encountering the following new problems.
    Under printing preferences:
    Size: letter
    Source: Auto Select
    Type: Plain Paper
In multiple programs ( WordPerfect & Printing from Chrome browser )
If there is paper in tray 2 AND paper in tray 1 (the bypass tray) it will print from tray 2.
Previously it would detect that there is paper in tray 1 and print from tray 1. This is what I think of as “auto select”
If I load paper in tray 1 and remove tray 2 from the machine it will print from tray 1.
In our postage program (Stamps.com) we had it set to “auto select” for the source, but now it pulls plain paper from tray 2 even if there is an envelope in tray 1. I set it to “tray 1" and got the same results.
So I set the source to “manual feed from tray 1". And then it prompts to load paper and press the “go” button on the printer. Since the envelope is already in tray 1, I press the go button and it prints fine.
I have tried uninstalling the printer and reinstalling it from the original disk and I have tried the PLC5 driver without success.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    More info:
This morning I swapped the printer that is giving me the problems (P2035) with another printer (P2015). The P2015 works fine, however the P2035 is still giving me the exact same issues at the new desk, I was not expecting that, and it makes me think it might be a hardware or firmware issue.
If it would never pick up from the bypass tray I would think that the switch that indicates paper in the bypass tray was defective, but with tray 2 removed it sees the paper in the bypass tray just fine.
    Any thoughts?
Is there anyway to re-install or update the firmware?
    Thanks

If the other network will not work with your mobile devices, you can remover that network or networks from your settings and then the iPad will not join them at all - unless you manually select them and join them again on your own.
Settings>WiFi>Tap on the blue arrow next to the name of the network that you want to remove. In the next window, tap on "Forget This Network". That will remove the unwanted network from the iPad and it will only join the mobile network that is listed in the settings - if that is the only network listed for the school.
I assume that this is would be OK with the IT folks if they dont want you to use the other networks, but what bothers me is why they would have set your iPad put so that you could use that network in the first place.

  • Airport card won't auto select my AirPort network at boot up

I have two AirPort express routers in the house, configured together (to increase range) on one network, "Aspen". Its the only network I have. When I first set up my Mac several years ago I used the AirPort wizard. After initial config, my Mac would always automatically select the wireless network "Aspen" at every boot up. Over time, I started to see my neighbor's various networks listed too, but, the AirPort card always auto selected and connected to my network.
Somewhere along the way (with various network reconfigs happening to add the second router, reset a password so someone's WIndows machine could use the network, etc..) somehow my config got munged and for the last year or so my AirPort card would not auto connect. I'd have to manually select "Aspen". In the last few months, auto select has begun working again, but, it always, always selects my neighbors network, and I have to manually switch it over to mine.
I've used the Help docs below. I've got it set up exactly as they're saying. "Aspen" is the ONLY network on my AirPort list. When I boot, it says, "I can't find your network. Would you like to connect to "neighbors network"? What can I do to reconfigure this to work correctly?
    Thanks so much!
    Choosing preferred AirPort networks
By default, AirPort attempts to join the wireless network your computer was most recently connected to.
If you are in an environment with multiple wireless networks, you can set up your computer to join a preferred network when you start your computer, wake it from sleep, or turn AirPort on.
AirPort keeps track of the wireless networks your computer has connected to, and lists them in the Network pane of System Preferences.
To choose a preferred AirPort network using Mac OS X 10.4:
Open Network preferences, choose AirPort from the Show pop-up menu, and click AirPort.
Choose "Preferred networks" from the "By default, join" pop-up menu, and select a network from the list.
You can add wireless networks to the list by clicking the Add button, and clicking on the Network Name pop-up menu. Choose a network and enter a password for the network if necessary. Use the Delete button to remove a network from the list.
To give a network the highest priority, drag the name of the network to the top of the list. This is the network AirPort will attempt to join first.
If you are using Mac OS X 10.3, choose "A specific network" from the "By default, join" pop-up menu, and either type the name of the network in the Network field, or click the Network pop-up menu to display the available networks, choose one and then enter your password for the network.
You can set additional options to control the way your computer joins available networks. Click Options and choose an option from the "If no preferred networks are found" pop-up menu.
If you choose "Ask before joining an open network," you will be prompted when an open network becomes available. If you choose "Automatically join an open network," you will not be promoted, and will automatically join an open network when it becomes available. If you choose "Keep looking for recent networks," AirPort will continue looking for networks you have already joined, and automatically join the network when one is found.

  • How to Auto Select some RadioButton on page load using ADF/JSF

    Hi,
I am learning ADF and need some help. I have multiple radio buttons and couple of text boxes on my page. How can I make some radio button be selected based on some value from a database table and also populate the text boxes with the corrosponding value when a page loads. Any tips on how it can be done using ADF. Any sample tutorial will be helpful.
    Thanks

    Hi,
when you e.g. use ADF BC then the radio button should be selected automatically based on the value of the attribute. If the row is new then you can have a default value specified in the ADF BC ViewObject attribute.
However, if you just dragged the radio button and checkboxes onto the page - not using any ADF binding - then you will have to create a managed bean with a field variable (incl. setter/getter methods) to link the radio button's value property to it using Expression Language

  • Print Booklet won't let me because of multiple page sizes...?

    Dialog box:
"The active document uses multiple page sizes Print Booklet works only with documents that use a consistent page size."
OK, but the page sizes are all the same.
    Help?

Actually, I have to disagree with you, Peter, about the Page tool.
While I agree that it can be confusing to newcomers (as many of InDesign's tools are), it has great utility in printing. Two example are creating gatefolds or book covers. I wrote a blog post about this: http://indesignsecrets.com/introducing-multiple-page-sizes-in-indesign-cs5.php
You can also create a nice presentation of an identity package using multiple page sizes with this feature: http://indesignsecrets.com/creating-multiple-page-sizes-in-cs5—part-2.php
In the print dialog box, there a new widget for selecting all pages of the same size, if you're printing directly from the document. And creating a PDF is easy because PDF files have always supported multiple sizes and orientations.
As usual, your commercial printer will have to get up-to-speed on new techniques, and you should communicate with them ahead of printing time.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Premium won't print cardstock - error message of "out of paper" appears

My printer won't print cardstock, the error message says "out of Paper".  I have tried 3 different types of cardstock and it won't accept any of them.  It will print on plain paper.  Is this machine defective?  HELP...URGENT
I must be able to print cardstock.  The computer was just set up today...it is brand new and purchased directly from HP.

After trying a lot of different things, for some God-only-knows reason, this is the trick that worked for me. This is really more of a hack than a true fix, but I'm not picky when it's 2 AM and I don't have any other options:
    (1) In the paper tray, alternate one sheet of the cardstock paper with one sheet regular plain paper. Make sure the tray is full, but not over-full. (This HP help article says not to do that but... whatever.)
    (2) In the Print dialogue box (however you can get to it) select the "Plain Paper" preset (not "thick paper" or "cardstock"). I had it on "Best" as you can see it the screen shot, but I don't think this is important.
    (3) I only had a single-page document, which I needed to print 30 copies of, so I inserted a blank page as a second page in the document file (a pdf).
    (4) I then made sure "Collate" was selected in my print settings.
If you have a multi-page document, maybe you will need to insert a blank page every other page... which sounds like a pain, and I feel for you.
Note: You'll need to monitor the printing closely - if ever the printer pulls two pages through instead of one, you'll need to pull the paper tray out and add a piece of paper so it's alternating correctly.
With this, I was able to print multiple copies without ever stopping. After a full day of fighting with the printer (which may or may not have included sacrifices of limbs under a full moon to the printer gods... just kidding) this was like magic.
Hope this works for you - or other people who read this thread. This is a really frustrating situation.
PS. Before I did this, I also did a full reset of the printer, which included:
    1. Turning off the printer and unplugging it for a full minute
    2. Printing 100 blank pages
I have no idea if this helps, but if this hack isn't working for you, this "reset" is worth a try.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium won't print wirelessly

Ok, I have been having this problem for about a month now and cannot seem to fix it.
I have an Officejet 8600 Pro Premium that I recently bought for my business to replace my old 6500. I love the printer so far but there is one problem that is extremely aggravating. Currently I have three computers connected to the printer, two running XP and one running windows 7. The ones running XP have no issues what so ever, but every few days the one running windows 7 just stops printing. In control panel I can still see the printer but the documents just sit in the print que. Same for when I try to print a test page through HPs software. The only way to get it to print again is to unistall the drivers and reinstall. Then it will print for a few days and then stop again. I don't know why this is happening only to the machine running windows 7 and not XP.
Also, whenever I try to setup e-print from the printer I get an error message saying "Unalbe to Connect: The printer could not connect to the server." I am not running a proxy or anything like that, and I'm not sure if these two problems are related.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Edit: Also I have ink alerts set only for when I print and scan to computer is disabled.

I have the same problem.  I have the officejet pro 8600 plus connected to a wireless toshiba laptop running Windows 7 64 without any issue ever. It is perfect.  I bought another officejet pro 6600 premium and connected it wirelessly to a HP Elite desktop at my other house.  It works great for a few days then the computer can't find the printer.  The printer shows the computer on the screen and has a blue wireless signal lit up. The only way to fix this is to reinstall the software which works great for a few days and then the same problem occurs.  This has happened several times since I purchased it 2 months ago.  I am a realtor and this is a huge inconvenience when I need to print things out for my appointments but have to re install the programs to do so.
    Any suggestions please?

  • Forms Auto-Fill Wizard Limited by Page Size

I've got a long perfume pricelist that I used to send out in Excel...recently I made it pretty with InDesign.
Using A4 size, the pricelist was 50 pages long and 7.5mb.  Using A4 width and 5000mm length, it's 3 pages and 900kb.
With 5000mm, Acrobat form Wizard couldn't recogize the fields for "Order QTY."  During the page pass, it would "Evaulating Knowledge Source."  I can't even find this error on Google, which is why I decided to post.
I ended up using 1485mm length (5 pages A4), and the wizard works the way it's supposed to........but it's takes an unusually long time to edit many (100+) form fields at a time.....

Create a new master page, do not put page numbering onto these pages.
Apply these Master pages to the first 3 pages.
On the first page in the pages panel (the actual first page) go to numbering and section options, change the numbering to Roman numerals.
Go to the fourth page (the page you want to start numbering from)
Go to Numbering and Section Options,
    Start New Section
    start numbering from page 1
Now page  4 will be numbered page 1.
    For your second problem
A master frame on the master pages, make sure in the master page the two frames are linked
Go to the normal layout pages
When you import the text make sure that you shift click in the frame area that you've drawn for the text frame, but not anywhere near a margin guide, you'll see the mouse icon change to a Link type icon.
Press Shift Click when you see this.
If you press shift click near a margin guide it will possibly not pay attention to your master frame.

  • HP8600 Auto Load Tray for Fax

I use the HP8600 Officejet Pro Premium. The auto load tray is reliable anytime I use the scan or copy feature.  There is about a 25% success rate with the same auto load tray with fax attempts.  Any advice or support would be very much appreciated.

    Hello csc05c,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
Typically when you have issues with the tray or the hardware on the printer, it is usually a power issue or a lack there of.
Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Try having it connected to a wall outlet for a few days and let me know if any change takes place.  If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
