AAS & Provider services and conflict between exl adin & smart view

Hi,
I just installed Hyperion Essbase 9.3.1 for test purpose for our upgrade from 7.0 to 9.3. I have one machine and I installed Administration console, Hyperion Provider services and Essbase.
I need to install administration console and Hyperion provider services as a service on windows environment. How I can install as a service.
If I work excel add in v 7.1 and smart view 9.3 on a same machine. It will give me any error or conflict?

Hi,
I am not sure that fully understand what you are asking so I apologise if I have misread this.
Are you saying you have installed EAS server and APS on a machine but didn't tick the install as a service when you were configuring ?
If that is the case then if you have installed using tomcat, in the directory :- \Hyperion\deployments\Tomcat5\bin
There are scripts to create services :- installServiceaas.bat & installServiceaps.bat
If excel addin 7.1 and smart view do cause any issues you can easy turn one of them off, for instance with Smart View you can go to the tool bar in Excel > Hyperion > About > Untick enable Add-in
Or just untick the addins from the addins menu options in excel.

HELP please provide similarities and differences between HTML DB and Portal

Hi, I have several years of experience with Oracle Technology as DBA and Developer (Forms and Reports mainly). I'm excited and willing to familiarize with new technologies like Portal and HTML DB. I've been reading about both products and it seems they share similar principles in their arquitecture: both use dynamic page concepts, templates, Wizard driven development, DB centric approach for building html apps, etc.
It seems like HTML DB is like some sort of "little brother" version of Portal. Can anyone portrait basic similarities and differences between these two products?.

The products have different purposes. Portal provides content aggregation, application integration and personalization. Together with the Oracle Application Server infrastructure you also get identity management capabilities such as a centralized LDAP-based user directory and Single Sign-On. HTML DB is a tool for rapid development of database centric web applications. Nothing more, nothing less. Portal allows you to bring together applications built using a variety of technologies. HTML DB is just one of those technologies that happens to be optimized for web development on an Oracle database.
Once you have built your application with HTML DB, you may choose to place a link to it on a portal page. You may even choose to make authentication seamless by making the HTML DB application a Single Sign-On partner application (see: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/htmldb/howtos/sso_partner_app.html). Or, you may want to display some data from a report developed in HTML DB inside a portlet (see: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/htmldb/howtos/omniportlet_index.html)
Granted, Portal does have database centric development capabilities (what used to be called WebDB), but they are not nearly as flexible as HTML DB's. HTML DB lets you control page flow while maintaining session state, has quite sophisticated report building capabilities such as column based sorting and pagination, form building capabilities such as declarative field level data validations, built in field level help, etc.

Quality of service and conflicting engineer report...

Moved into our new house and took up with BT fir broadband and telephone, however after connecting on 12th September, connection was terrible 110kps average, and the first call of many to broadband technical support started. So far the first engineer came out and reported that the line should be 4-5Mb we were getting 300kps. After requesting the line be uncapped and reset I waited fir 48hrs no change to the speed I called again, thisvtime they said the line had been uncapped butbwhy was I still getting such appauling speeds and why dudbthe engineer say I could get 4Mb???? They arranged to send out a further engineer, the engineer never showed up the day he was meant to arrive I received a call to say that an engineer had not been booked! I rearranged a further multitasking engineer who could to the exchange as well. Another passed then the engineer came and did exactly the same as the first one he didn't go to the exchange another waste if time! Speeds had increased but no where near 4Mb.......1000 kps was the average. More calls and a further engineer visit who did a number of faceplate changes tested the line again and niwcsaid 5000 kps was the speed I should get, but I was lucky to get 1000 kps and I was doing the test with him there! He said he would go to the exchange but needed to request an upgrade which he said avrack engineer would have to come out and do bu he would try I asked if he would come back and tell me the outcome didn't come back! I calked BT again and was told some things had been dine and the line would stabilise by 30th today I have seen NO speed increase and again I call again this afternoon and now get told there's no more they can do!!!!! What???? The problem s in the exchange your engineer told me, I just want this resolving and told them that I am now awaiting a call tomorrow morning from technical support in the uk, I'm not holding my breath but feel that BT is letting me down and not providing a level of service! Broadband should be for a property less than 2 miles from an exchange more than 2000 kps don't you think.....that's all I want to be able to stream iplsyer!!!! I mean 5000kps would be lovely but I'm not greedy. Can somebody just do what you promise!!!!

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

Provider Services and Studio Errors in Shared Services

I installed and configured Shared Services version 11.1.1.3 on Windows 2003. After installing and configuring APS and Studio, I get an error in Shared Services when I click on the application. The error says "User is not authorized for the action" I am logged in as the admin and there are no other users. The system was JUST installed.
I have repeated this error on multiple systems using separate sets of install files.
The applications are running and fully functional.
Does anyone know if this is a cosmetic error or if this a functional error?
I've also noticed that there is no provisioning available in Shared Services for APS.
I can provide a screen shot. Ididn't see a place to include it here.

Setup Windows Azure Workflow - Add-WFHost error "WF_Management/WFTOPIC" and token provider service

i want to install the new windows azure workflow manager and service bus on my sharepoint 2013 server.
All works fine in setup. I got the Powershell-Script from the wizard and configured it to meet my requierments.
I start it and get to the last point "add-wfhost".
Here i got following error:

I installed it on a sharepoint 2013 box server (AD, DNS, SQL and SP on one maschin).
I know this is not supported, but it should work. Im loged in as the service account for the workflow. I've granted the domain admin rights and sql sysadmin /dbowner rights.
Now my answer is:
It is not the "normal" error with the wf_management/WFTOPIC. What is this token provider service and why he tries the port 9355. I dont use ssl, so how can i change the request url or how do i have to set it up correct?

When you say 'setup gateway correctly' what do you mean?
How was your gateway setup and what did you change?
I have the same problem, and despite removing all proxy settings, i am still having this issue. I can navigate fine to the 'WorkflowDefaultNamespace' and get a RSS Feed type of page, but when i add the $STS/Windows Virtual Directories, i get a 400 Bad Request.

BT "customer service" and Call centre processes......

I have been having intermittent drop outs on my wifi network for about 2-3 weeks now. I have a laptop, desktop and two notebooks connected (not all the time). So i took my laptop to a friend to check if it were the PC that was causing the issue, not surprisingly it did not. As the remaining 3 networked PC's also had a common problem, it made sense that a common fault existed. Therefore either the line into the house or the router was at fault. so, I checked the helpful BT step by Step checklist in regards fault finding - all checked out - but then again why wouldn't it as the fault is intermittent.
As we have had no audible issues (checked with neighbours in case the telephone exchange was faulty), I phoned the "helpdesk. Got a nice guy called Abhay, who diligently went though his spiel. After 25 minutes of me trying to explain that the fault was intermittent and that all I wanted was a new reliable router sending out (the current one is 2 years old) we arrived at this conclusion (and confirmed by his supervisor).
1. I would need to be in front of my PC and home router to go through one of his technical colleagues checklists.
2. The fault was recorded on my Call Centre Notes as intermittent and that it may not repeat under test conditions
3. Upon completion of the checklist regardless of the outcome of the troubleshooting, I was to request a replacement router be sent out - a fact also recorded on my call centre notes.
4. It was confirmed that this was the case that the check list would need to be completed but regardless of the outcome a router would be despatched immediately upon conclusion, "as it probably was the router given the fault and age".
I asked then, why it was necessary to call back and waste my time and bt resource ticking a box if the act of ticking the box has not influence on the outcome. All I want is a new router (and a good reliable service) which will be forthcoming after the fruitless box ticking exercise. I asked if he would be able to just send me a router now, he said not. I asked if I could escalate to someone who could authorise a new router, he said not. So I have to phone back and waste more time to get what we all know will be the eventual outcome.
I know there are processes, but why are there not supervisors/managers in BT who can a) think about customer expectations, b) consider the impact on customer’s time and BT resource in regards rigidity, c) think beyond a checklist, d) satisfy the needs of their customers?
I bet that bloke out of "my family" never has this issue - and don't get me started on Infinity....Virgin media is beginning to look more and more appealing (never had a problem with Virgin customer services in the past - holidays, mobile and healthcare - there is a theme about brand evangelists and customer loyalty here. Virgin treat their customers as honoured guests where you (BT) seem to think you have a god given right to provide service and customers are loyally bound to the brand – I have been a BT customer as long as I’ve owned my house (25 years ish), and remained loyal but this is not the way customers should be treated.

These people don't give a hoot. It's not about "developing a customer relationship" or meeting basic expectations.
Customers are treated as problems -- to be palmed off with a line (I have heard multiple stories as to what my oustanding fault is (2 months now and I phone every few days)).
They don't appear to communicate at all with each other -- even if you have phoned up every few days for months they will act as if that is the first time you have phoned. You will be asked the same questions again and again -- what type is your line box I have answered probably a dozen times recently. What is your telephone number when you have already dialled it in. I even went through a month or so last year when they were denying I was a customer. They don't record anything. They are completely disorganised. They go through the motions of a line test again and again to seem to be effectual. The indians are apologetic and you can believe it -- but the British aren't.
I think you've hit it on the head that the culture of the state owned monopoly BT has perpetuated (at least in the UK). They think we owe them a living.

How to install EPM Provider services on windows.

Hello all,
I downloaded the EPM 3 packs and the EPM installer as well. My aim is to install the SmartView for Office and work with OBIEE from MS office components through the SmartView features.
When trying to install the EPM, it shows the "shared services" and "SmartView" as the installable things on my laptop. There are neither other components called "Provider Services" nor it allows to install anything other than the two listed above.
Can anyone guide me how to install these Provider services and how to connect to OBIEE from MS-Office tools using SmartOffice client?
Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Hi,
Provider Services is part of the essbase server installation, you will need to download "Oracle Essbase Server Release 11.1.1.0.0" and install the server element of provider services.

They are very, very different beasts.
Firstly FAST Search for SharePoint is the old name for the product and is only relevant for SharePoint 2010 not 2013. It got merged into the standard SharePoint search for the 2013 release.
SharePoint search is aimed at providing a Bing or Google like experience for your intranet content, as well as providing some nifty features that are purely SharePoint releated along the way. That means it can crawl SharePoint content, file shares,
outlook mailboxes, internal and external websites and probably fifty other different things if you really tried. Whilst i'm not an expert on SQL full text search I believe it's intended to provide a search feature for content held within SQL databases
and tables.
Can you run SharePoint purely for Search? Yes, definitely.

Conflict between Client object model and Item Updated Event Receiver in sharepoint 2010

As per my requirement I have a two custom list.
Agent Details
Port Name
Agent Details contains Agent code, Port Name, email, address and phone of Agent. Its possible that one Agent Code is connected with multiple Port Name.
Basically what I am doing is I am getting port name connected with Agent code, using jquery and bind those values with check box(using javascript created dynamically) and bind all with Div tag.
Now when my custom edit form of Agent list open up it shows me different port name binding with checkbox group.
when user select the check box and click confirm button my clicent object model script will run and add this selected value into Port Name list.
After confirm one more button named Save will enable asking user to edit the email, phone or address value and when I click on save my Item updated event fires which update the values of the selected port name(These port name I am getting from port
name list) to Agent Details custom list.
Now when I am trying to update the values my event receiver fires or some times it got stuck(not firing). So could you please help me the possible alternative for this requirements.
Can we user the Ecma Script(Client object model to preserve the value of selectec port) and Item updated event receiver on the same time?
Is anything am doing wrong then please guide me.

As I understand, when you updated values in the agent details list the Item updated event receiver got stuck sometimes.
The item update event receiver will fire after the item has been saved, and the client object model script or the Ecma Script runs before the item is saved, so there is no conflict between the client object model script and item update event receiver.
You could find out the reason about the item update event receiver gets stuck by debugging the event receiver.
When you want to debug your event receivers, you have to attach to OWSTIMER.EXE and wait till they are executed. You can control this behavior using the Synchronization attribute. Also, if you’re looking for an easy way to debug an event receiver without
having to manually attach a debugger to your code, you can use the System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Launch() method.

Conflict between iTunes Match and Windows 8.1

I have been running iTunes on my fully updated Windows 8.1 PC for some time, without any particular issues. A few days ago, I activated iTunes match. It worked just fine, in the perspective of my iPhone and iPad. However, my PC stopped being responsive: Long time-outs on just about anything, and dialog windows refusing to appear (one of them being the McAfee console ....). A virus search using Microsoft's emergency services showed nothing.
The moment I de-activated iTunes match, everyhing reverted to normal.
My conclusion is, there is a major conflict between whatever the iTunes match service does, and the Windows 8.1 operating system.
Any idea what this is all about, and if there is anything I can do about it (except avoiding using the match functionality)?
I have the latest update of iTunes for PC.

Failed to retrieve data from the database/invalid argument provided when employing link between two web services datasources

I am trying to join information from two related web services within CR XI. I have successfully set up the web services as data sources have been able to get to the point where I get good data back. However, when I try to pull in certain fields, I get an error that says "Failed to retrieve data from the database/invalid argument provided". Here's the scenario:
The web services are structured as follows:Web Service 1 (Artist) has attributes of Artist Name and Date of Birth.Web Service 2 (CD) has attributes of CD Title and Release Date. Underneath each CD are songs, each of which have a Song Title and Artist Name.
I have defined both web services and defined a link between Artist.Artist Name and CD/Song.Artist Name. I am able to run a report with Song Title and Date of Birth that crosses web services. I am able to run another report with Song Title and CD Title that crosses the different levels in the second web service. However, if I add CD Title to the first report or Date of Birth to the second (both of which effectively force CR to employ the link between the two web services AND the CD/Song hierarchical structure in the second web service, I get the aforementioned error.
Any assistance understanding how multiple web services can be linked in this manner would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about your exact situation, but having similar problem with another application and have tracked down to security. Added user to group Domain Admin and it works fine. It appears to be accessing a subdirectory which it does not have permission to use and then times out and returns the "invalid....". Seems that once the query just over a certain size (and I'm not sure what triggers this) it needs to make use of temparory file disk, intead of ram.
I'm still trying to track down which temporary it's trying to uses - so if you have any ques.

Thank you. Yes that resolves the conflict but leaves some missing references like the "Composition"
reference above. I was able to get past that by adding System.ComponentModel.Composition. This is after installing the VS 2013 update 4 build.
Now I get the following. I'm concerned that I'm taking references from both Lightswitch and Silverlight
sdk's just to get it to build. These references are required because of the auto generated code. I must have something quirked. Anyway what about System.Data.Common.DbConnection? How can I get it without
referencing System.Data?

Connection between data services and BWA

Hi,
I want to make a connection between Data Services 3.2 and BWA. Since we use RFC connection in between in order to have them talk with eachother but i wonder if there is any documentation that describes the RFC connection and configuration required particularly in this scenario. I have gone through the documentation that explains RFC connection between Data Services and BW and what configuration we have to do, so i wonder if there are any functions we have to export to BWA from Data Services like we do in case of BW connection to Data Services or some specific configuration we have to do. If someone help who has done connection between Data Services and BWA can help or if somebody can provide documentaton on it.
