Access to Website hosted on Azure VM.
Hi,
I have my website on IIS 8 server hosted on a Azure Virtual Machine. Which has a Public IP 23.102.157.xxx and a
Internal IP 10.0.0.4. The website is on example.cloudapp.net
I want to add a firewall inbound rule on my server which allows requests from this website on that's on Azure VM.
What is the IP address I would have to give to allow only requests from this website hosted in Azure VM. Is it possible? If not any alternatives on what im doing wrong?
Hi Susie,
Yes I did create a reserved IP from the Azure PowerShell with the following command
New-AzureVMConfig -Name "VMName" -InstanceSize “Small” -ImageName “a699494373c04fc0bc8f2bb1389d6106__Windows-Server-2012-R2-201411.01-en.us-127GB.vhd” | Add-AzureProvisioningConfig -Windows -AdminUsername “JUseranme” -Password “Password”| New-AzureVM
-ServiceName "SERVICENAME" –ReservedIPName “RESERVED-IPNAME” -Location "South Central US" .
In the Azure management portal I can see the newly created Cloud service and VM, However i get the following error:
The VM does not start and says:
Could not start virtual machine "VM Name" in cloud service "Cloud Service Name".
and in cloud service it says:
Running
Not all role instances are ready.
1 Instance: 1 Stopped (Could not start)
I have not configured the Azure Service Configuration Schema (.cscfg File) as I dont know where to find it. IS it required?

Cannot access web site hosted on Azure VM
I have created Windows Server 2012R2 VM and after creating VM I have installed IIS and hosted my site and found it is working fine inside the VM.
Then I have added HTTP end point to my VM from azure portal. After creating http end point I cannot access my web site using MyHostName.cloudapp.net.
Can you help me why http end point is not working?
Then I have crated VM with template and there I have defined HTTP endpoint before creating VM.
Finally I found that if I create end point before creating VM then it works fine and if I create endpoint after creating VM then it doesn’t work.
Can you kindly help me to solve this issue (so that end point works properly after creating VM)?
Hasibul Haque,MCC2011,MCPD hasibulhaque.comHi,
You can check the port you bind for the website in IIS and make sure you have created endpoint with the correct port. You can also install Telnet client on your local computer and run "telnet xxx.cloudapp.net public_port_in_endpoint" at the command
prompt to see it works.
Have you enable SSL on the website hosted on Azure VM? If yes, please also create an endpoint with port 443 and open that port in Windows Firewall on the VM.
Best regards,
Susie

Trying to access SharePoint Site, Hosted in Azure, from public Internet
I am looking for basic guidance on how to browse a SharePoint 2013 Environment, Hosted in
Azure, from a PC not located on the same network. In other words from an internet connected PC. I believe this was working until some Azure or Windows update took place, and now I can no longer connect to my environment
via SharePoint Designer, IE, or ShareGate migration tool. (I am NOT looking to open up a public facing website with Anonymous access.)
Currently when I try to access http://Server_Name.cloudapp.net I end up looking at a IIS 8 Splash Screen.
There seems to be a combination of settings that need to be in order for this to happen. I believe they fall into the following topics Any help is appreciated.
Azure Settings:
DNS name: SERVER_NAME.cloudapp.net
ENDPOINTS
IIS Settings:
Bindings
DNS Server Settings:
Host A Records
SharePoint Settings:
Alternate Access Mappings
Other:
Hosts File
Windows Server Firewall
Hi,
How did you publish the SharePoint site hosted in Azure to Internet?
I recommend to follow the link below to see if the issue still occurs:
http://thuansoldier.net/?p=4044
As Microsoft Azure changes public virtual IP address every time you turn on your virtual machine, please make sure you check the new address then assign it to SharePoint AAM again.
Thanks,
Victoria

Email Send/Receive causes slow access to website host server. Any Suggestions?
Hello Community.
"Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."
I have a bit of a weird problem and though it sounds silly, I'm 99% certain of the cause. My business migrated our five different sites to a new web host (shared hosting) about 5 months ago. Since then we've been plagued by a localised speed issue with connecting to that host. The host is a reasonably good one, but for some reason when connecting on our local network ONLY we were having intermittent load problems; anywhere for instant load to 40-50 seconds. After much testing we have arrived at an improbable conclusion; That accessing webmail (e.g. clicking Send/Receive) on any Mac within our network causes a massive and immediate slow-down of website access and smtp connection to any of our five sites held on the shared hosting server.
Again, I know how strange that sounds, but we've essentially proved it based on ping tests and side by side comparisons of isolated computers. The ONLY computers that are affected are the Macs on the network and also mobile browsers on multiple platforms. Windows based PCs are not affected by the slow down.
Also, the problem seems to be access based. By that I mean, one a site is accessed it loads almost instantly, but it can take up to 40 seconds of white screen before the site is reached. Interestingly, during this time, the sites' ping speeds are perfectly normal UNTIL the moment when the page is finally accessed and it loads instantly. Once the load triggers the ping speeds increase dramatically to the point where they occasionally time out. Once the site is loaded the ping speeds return to normal (approx 22 ms).
... help!
Important: Things we've ruled out:
ISP is not a factor (used a 3G modem to rule this out)
Router is not a factor (see above)
Switch is not a factor (Tested different switch)
Individual terminals are not a factor (when removed from the network or isolated on the network the individual terminals perform perfectly. Furthermore when an external mac (iMac laptop) was introduced to the network it performed just as poorly)
Browser/Operating System/CMS platform not a factor (multiple CMSs have been tested, testing on multiple computers with different versions of OS have been tested, and all sites have different CMSs; Joomla, Concrete 5, Bespoke, and Wordpress of different versions)
Cpanel setup not a factor (Each site has its own Cpanel account, the are not set up as add-on domains. Furthermore, a similar slow down has been observed on other sites held on that server)
Mixed platform network not a factor (We removed non-mac based computers from the network and turned off wi-fi to isolate and found no change)
DNS does not appear to be a factor (We tested multiple DNS including Googles 8,8,8,8 / 8,8,4,4 and found no change)
Cabling does not appear to be a factor (though the cabling isn't perfect, it's at least Cat5/Cat6, plus it wouldn't affect only our sites)
Email Client does not appear to be a factor (accessing email via Outlook or Mail App causes the slowdown)
Important: Things that we suspect
Computer Year of Manufacture: (though all computers are affected, the problem is most severe on pre-2013 constructed models (regardless of OS)
POP3/SMTP request immediately triggers the slow down (observed visually as well as in ping tests. No mail needs to be sent/received during this process to trigger the slow down, simply the request causes the spike. We haven't yet been able to test IMAP)
The Networked Macs (not the individual macs): (the individual computers when isolated on the existing hardware perform fine. Only when they are networked does the slow down occur)
DNS (Even though we've found no link to DNS, if feeeeels like a DNS issue.)
CHANGE of host. (We changed hosts due to extremely poor service and tech support. The new guys are fantastic. Though I don't think it's the new host's fault, it's possible that the change of hosts has caused our network to search for our websites in the wrong place)
Apple Knows Best: Is there something that Macs do with Mail to update a routing table? Like, could a mail application trigger an update to a local routing table?
Has anybody heard of anything like this before? Or can anybody suggest any possible things to test or change? Even though email requests seem improbable, I can confirm that it has been proved visually and through tests. As you can probably tell, our testing has been extensive so if you notice anything in our test conclusions that I could add to please... I'm seriously open to suggestions now.
Any help with this would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards,
-TheWebFellaHi Linc
Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah I'd already tried that. It's been deactivated on most of our computers already. Plus like I said, it's different browsers on multiple macs and also some mobile browsers on both iPhone and Samsung on our wireless network. I can confirm that on mac the problem is consistent across Chrome, Firefox as well as Safari.
Thanks anyway! Any other takers? -
Safari unable to display icons when accessing a website hosted on Jboss 7.x
I have a toolbar that consists of around 10 images(.png 16x16). Each of them not exceeding a size of 5kb. I am using GWT 2.4 framework. My question is, when I deploy the war in Jetty 8, the images seem to load just fine on Safari in ipad version 6.1.3. But when I deploy the same war in JBoss AS 7.x, the images don't seem to load at all and I can see a loading indicator continuously displayed on the top left corner in the ipad.
Is there a way to find out why this is happenning. I have even configured the mime type in web.xml file. Can I connect to safari in ipad from mac and debug? AFAIK, that couldn't be done. Or am I mistaken? Please let me know.Hi, after trying for a bit I found the solution. The key is to use ClientBundle for image resource instead of specifying the images directly in your code. It is cleaner. Works perfectly in Jboss now! Still, I feel this should'nt have arised in the first place. When the same code works in chrome, why should safari be any different? Food for thought.

Hi community.
My laptop is driving me crazy.
It seems I cannot access my website (hosted by siteground.com) either the cpanel for it. Tried to access over WiFi or cable , and no success.
However I can access the site, with any other device (desktop, android phone, ipad etc..)in the house, both over wifi and cable.
Have already spoken to my ISP company and they confirmed that everything is fine with the connection.
Spoken to my hosting company and they confirmed that everything is fine from their side.
I read on the forums, that port80 may be closed ???? How do i do that and how do i unblock it.
Already cleared the caches or all browser....
What is the issue here ???
Other wise , i can access any other site.

Hi there,
I have a Cisco ASA 5505 in my home office which has a few PCs behind it with a linux web server running some websites. I can access the websites from outside no problem (i.e. on my iPhone using a 3G connection). However, I struggle to access the websites from within the network. The ASA gives me this error:

Failed to locate egress interface for TCP from inside:192.168.55.61/50420 to 86.*.*.*/80
ASA runs version 9. Here is the config bit:
object network denon-server
host 192.168.55.200
access-list outside_access_in extended permit tcp any object denon-server eq www
object network denon-server
nat (any, outside) static interface service tcp www www
Any suggestions?Hi,
I assume that you are trying to reach the LAN server with the public IP address that the ASA holds and also uses for the above Port Forward / Static PAT configuration?
If this is the situation then I am afraid that with the current configuration that is not possible. The NAT configuration towards Internet is done between probably "inside" and "outside". So "outside" interface holds the public IP address. ASA doesnt let you connect to that "outside" IP address from behind the "inside" IP address. (Or any other interface for that matter)
What you could try to do is configure a NAT that would enable you to use the public IP address of the server even when connecting from the "inside" of ASA.
Try this
object network SERVER-LOCAL
host 192.168.55.200
object network SERVER-PUBLIC
host 86.x.x.x
object network LAN
subnet 192.168.55.0 255.255.255.0
nat (inside, inside) source dynamic LAN interface destination static SERVER-PUBLIC SERVER-LOCAL
Where
SERVER-LOCAL = Is the "object" that defines the real IP address of the server
SERVER-PUBLIC = Is the "object" that defines the public IP address of the server (that ASA holds on its "outside")
LAN = Is the "object" that defines the subnet from where LAN users connect to the server public IP address
Check that the network mask is correct for the LAN and fill in the public IP address.
The actual NAT configuration tells the ASA this
When a connection from LAN is coming towards SERVER-PUBLIC then UN-NAT SERVER-PUBLIC to SERVER-LOCAL and NAT LAN to "inside" interface IP address (as defined by the parameter "interface" in the configuration)
This should enable the LAN hosts to use the public IP address to connect to the server. The server though will see the connections coming from the ASA "inside" interface IP address.
Hope this helps

How to change the permission of a folder of a website hosted on Microsoft Azure. I would like to know how to enable read write permission for this folder
Regards,
JohnHi,
Please try to setting Folder Permissions on Web Publish, and then deploy it with Web Deploy, as far as I know, if we do that, Web Deploy will use the SetAcl operation to change permissions. Please have a look at the article below.

Attempt to access external website keeps getting grabbed by SBS 2003
Hi folks,
I have an old SBS 2003 server that recently switched their external web hosts. They are configured with the same FQDN for both their active directory domain and their public domain (westsidebaby.org). I went into DNS on the SBS server to simply update the
WWW record and the Windows DNS equivalent of the domain @ record. Now when any internal network user tries to access the website, they get the Welcome to Small Business Server 2003 page on the local IIS. External users can get to the website no problem.
There is also an A record for partners.westsidebaby.org in the internal DNS that points to their old web server and that resolves just FINE. NSLOOKUP from both the server and internal clients to the local DNS server give me the correct external address.
Pinging www.westsidebaby.org from the local subnet resolves correctly as well. I have done ipconfig /flushdns on the server, as well as the clients I am testing, flushed/deleted/cleared the caches and browsing histories from the various browsers (IE, Chrome
and Firefox), all in very logical, intentional order before attempting to type the addy.
If I change a client's DNS server to an external source, I can resolve to the new website just fine. Just can't access AD or server shares any more. Ugh.
No matter what I seem to do, barring resolving through an outside DNS server, typing www.westsidebaby.org from inside still gives me the dang SBS page. I have also setup a HOSTS file to no avail. OMG, I am FIT TO SPIT. Any ideas?Hi,
This is happening because of DNS misconfiguration. Try and stop Default Website as a test and browse the site. Also check if there is a host header on Default website pointing to westsidebaby.org

For the past few days, I keep getting an invalid security certificate in Safari whenever I select Edit My Site from my website homepage (http://annaporterartist.com), or whenever I select anything requiring a secure log in from my website host main page (FASO.com). I have contacted technical support at my website host (fineartstudioonline.com) and they say that this has been an intermittently recurring problem in Safari for years and they recommend that I use Firefox instead. As proof of this they emailed a link to an Apple Support discussion, but it was for Mac OS X Lion v 10.7.4 and Safari 5.1, even though I told them I am using Mac OS X Mountain Lion v 10.8.2 and Safari 6.0.2. I do not get this error message anywhere else on the web using Safari. I did try Firefox and it seems to work fine, but I prefer Safari and I want to know why Safari is not working as it should be. I am concerned that there is a real security problem with my website host and I need someone to explain why I am getting this error message, what it means, and if it is, in fact, a known problem with Safari or is my website host corrupted? Really tired of technical support playing pass the buck or pretending the problem does not exist.
The specific error message is:

Website hosted in particular windows server prompting continuous domain authentication
Hi
There are 2 domains A & B .In domain A, there are few websites hosted in 4 windows servers identical in software and hardware configurations ....mean to say in IIS Managers , all the settings are same.I am not aware of IIS technically. but all the settings
visually are the same.
The problem 2 days before happened the Domain B users (except 2 users)are continuously prompted for the domain authentication when they try to access this website through the URL which they always use when the URL hits one particular server out of these
4 windows 2008 R2 servers
The sharepoint site admin cut a ticket to Windows team with the comment : Check this BAD Windows server

The characters change depending on the website. I've tried disabling all extensions and plugins, reinstalling firefox and reinstalling java to no avail. The issue seems to be isolated to firefox, chrome is able to display the webpages without a problem. The problem occures following a malware in infection which would redirect goolgle searches in firefox. It was dealt with using Malwarebytes Anti-malware and by removing some entries from C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file.Hi,
I tried everything above but to no avail. Windows firewall seemed to be allowing Firefox through without it actually being in the exception list. However, I did remove Firefox but this time removing all profile data too. Reinstalling Firefox seemed to make the websites work. However I then restored my bookmarks, and suddenly the websites stopped functioning again, displaying the random string of characters. Could this be an issue with my bookmarks? -
Suddenly I cannot access one website
All of a sudden I cannot access one website at www.countrywalkers.com from any of the three Macs on my network. Two of them are wireless and one is ethernet-cabled
I work for them so it would be helpful if I could do so. I e-mailed them and they have confirmed that other Mac users can access their website without any problem and that they have certainly not blocked me from accessing their website.
The connection to this website fails using Safari, Firefox and Netscape and Firefox and IE via VPC on my g5 iMac, Safari and Firefox on a G4 Powerbook and a G4 Tower.
I connect to the internet via a 3Com router which works perfectly except for this glitch.
I have changed nothing in my set-up and have been able to access this website uninterruptedly for about 10 years, until about two weeks ago.
I have used ping, lookup and traceroute in Network Utility to try and work out what is wrong. In the ping test, all the packets go missing. The lookup gives information which means nothing to me. The traceroute test shows asterisks at stages 2, 5 and 13 onwards, meaning I suppose that this is where the connection to the remote URL is faiiling.
What does this all mean and what can I do about it?
There seem to be a lot of posts on this issue, almost all of them unresolved, and hope that I have posted in the right place.
I do not have anything like PeerGuardian.
Thanks for any help.

Got an exception in IE11 - 'This page can't be displayed' while accessing intranet website
Hi,
We have published an intranet portal website to our external customers.
Few of our website users occasionally get 'This page can't be displayed' exception while accessing our website. The HTTP request is in pending state for almost 10mins and then they get this exception. Ones they refresh - the page gets displayed
without any issue.
More details :
- These users are in different LAN than the LAN on which our web-server is hosted.
- They use IE11 on Windows 7 Operating system.
- This exception occurs occasionally and not able to reproduce consistently. But they get it once or twice when they continuously use the website.
- When the browser was waiting for the HTTP Response, there was no
HTTP Request logged in our web-server.
Below link is the network report capture when the exception happened using IE11 F12 Inspection add-on.
IE11 F12 Network report
Note: Earlier our users had accessed our website using IE8 and Windows XP. Now their system was upgraded to Windows7 and IE11. after which they face this issue.
We want to find - if this is a network issue or is it an issue with the browser / OS or totally something else.
When I searched in the net about this issue - some mentioned that this issue will not occur with Chrome or Firefox because they cache DNS and IE doesn't and relies on the OS to do the DNS caching (I am not clear about this).Hello Robert,
Thanks to share some Developing Tools to use to debug this issue.
As we tried to capture network traces through wireshark & founds no handshake called with some certificates from IE 11 else same certificate working in Firefox on same windows 7 PC & for some certificate which also
created with same process and key algorithm/length working on both IE 11 & Mozilla Firefox

Programatically getting SSRS (in PDF/ Excel) hosted on Azure VM
i am migrating my SSRS deployed on Azure SQL reporting to SSRS hosted on Azure VM. I have successfully created a VM and deployed my reports, which can be viewed from browser. now my requirement is that i want to get the reports in PDF or EXCEL format programatically
(from web role). that requirment working fine for last one year until I moved SSRS to VM.
when i called ReportViewer.ServerReport.GetParameters()
method it throw an exception 401 UnAuthorized access. i am currently using below class to authenticate my user to get reports in PDF or EXCEL
public class SSRSReportServerCredentials : IReportServerCredentials

public bool GetFormsCredentials(out Cookie authCookie, out string user, out string password, out string authority)
authCookie = null;
user = sa;

authority = SERVER.reporting.windows.net;

Can any one help me out to fix my production issue.
best regards, ZeeshanIn SQL Azure Reporting, SSRS was designed to use Forms Based Authentication. Due to this we were required to use IReportServerCredentials and return the GetFormsCredentials method as described by you.
Since you have successfully migrated to SSRS on an Azure VM, the way to Authenticate against Reporting Services would be to return the
NetworkCredentials Property instead of the GetFormCredentials
since SSRS on an Azure VM using Windows Authentication By Default.
