ACL's messed up, I think

I recently made the mistake of using SuperDuper (great program, just not Leopard ready) to make backups of my system since that first week in November after installing 10.5. Since the sparseimages were getting created, and I wasn't getting error output, I thought all was well. Anyways, I wanted to muck with the partitioning schema, so I made a full backup and then formated my internal hard drive. I booted from dvd and mounted the image, and restored the image. This is when I discovered that super duper didn't have a valid backup, everything data wise was there, but the disk just wont boot no matter what. Anyways, I tossed a spare 500 gig esata disk on, and restored the image to the external disk. I then re-installed leopard to my internal drive and used the migration utility to migrate all of my real system into the new leopard install.
Somewhere along the way, the ACL's got jacked up. After getting the system back booting, a handful of system preference .kexts wouldnt load, Entourage couldn't get access to multiple identities (this is where I got the hint, as it straight out told me permissions were wrong the identities folder and to have a admin move the identities to a location with access. Firefox was all messed up as well. I should have just reinstalled and then just copied my ~ directory over (I thought) but I soon found that chown myusername:myusername (I am the admin too) on the identities folder recursively fixed the entourage, and I just went directory by directory changing ownership by sudo chown.
Anyways, today I noticed that my terminal history wasn't being created using history I got nothing, even after being at the cl for a hour or so.
I decided to sudo chown -R me:me ~, but I know this is not enough, as I cant save a pdf document I want to the symlink at the root of my system hard drive to User Guide and Information.
Also, diskutil repairPermissions /Volumes/myinternaldisk isnt fixing it, as a matter of fact I am getting some output from the command.
septic-mbp:Library nicitaja$ sudo diskutil repairPermissions /Volumes/OSX
Started verify/repair permissions on disk disk0s2 OSX

I've searched and seen that the 10.5.1 update jacked up some permissions (people loosing write ability to items within their own Documents folder) and that said to run the 10.5.1 update manually after downloading it from apple's site manually (vs automated system update at the apple menu). But I didn't have that problem, so I didn't continue exploring those issues. (I have had to do this to a mac in the office where user lost those privileges)
Anyways, could someone give me some pointers on where to globally change owner ship.
I have a TON of macports and fink updates, and I have no problem globally changing ownership recursively on these folders because NO one but me uses them).
its the Mac specific folders I don't have experience with, the standard bsd linux file structure I have experience working with as well. I have no users on my system but me, if some one could save me the time from having to re-install every app into a fresh leopard install, I would be most appreciative.
I just located the User Guide and Information symlink in /Library/Documentation and the folder carried 755 permissions for some reason. I sudo chmod 775 to it and now (well you get the picture, I have the write bit now).
Again, any hints or at least a list of places I can change
i.e.
/Library can be changed to username:username -R and wont mess anything up
/Users .... .....
Thanks

Boot to the Leopard install disk and from the Utilities menu select a user account that needs its ACL's reset.
Then select the reset option at the bottom.
It is done when there is a faded Done button at the bottom and you can select the hard drive and user name again and the reset button is available again.
This only resets the top levels of the user directories but you should be able to use the Get Info window to complete the changes by choosing to apply to enclosed items.

  • My 3/4g network is messed up I think

I have the 29.99 data plan and whenever I click on a certain website or app I want to look at the 3g goes out and won't come back on unless I restart my phone.. It pops in and out and it is DRIVING me insane.. I pay for something, I want it to work... Please help me

I understand that you want your data to work consistently on your phone. It looks like you have a Thunderbolt. A new software was just released 7/8 that addresses the issue with the phone losing data connection. If you haven't received the software update, you can search for it by going to Settings>Software Update. The software is being pushed out in batches. It may not show up as available until pushed to your phone. If you are still having this issue after the update, please respond and let me know.

  • My MAC is running very slow and i am a complete novice and don't know what to do. i have had my Mac since 2008 and its probably in a mess. if you can help i would be grateful. EtreCheck version: 1.9.15 (52) Report generated 8 September 2014 09:09:26

My MAC runs very slow. Rainbow wheel every time i try to go somewhere. Im a complete MAC novice. Only really use it for iTunes and email. the odd document here and there. The odd spreadsheet. Was brought up on a PC. I would imagine my system is in  mess. I think i downloaded that Mackeeper which i have just discovered was not a good idea. I found a thread about EtreCheck and it suggested i posted the report of my machine which i have done.I only have 2GB of space. Not sure how much i have left. My wife keeps putting photos on here like they are going out of fashion. Bought the machine in 2008 because everybody said you have a MAC. I've never really got to grips with it but at least it worked. Now it does not run very well at all. That spinning wheel is driving me mad. HELP please, never ever used a forum light this either so please go gentle on me. Cheers Paul

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • ACE VIP & ACL

    Hi,
The ace config contains more than 20 service-policy and many VIP addresses. The ace works in L3 mode.
We have to restrict one of VIP traffic to 6 node only from public side.
How can i restrict the traffic with ACL in the  L3 class map.
different  policies use the   servers on server side VLAN thus we would not like to use general traffic ACL under server VLAN configuration.
Unfortunetly, only one entry are permitted in Class L3 map !
However, this one entry is  the virtual-address row.
What is the  smart solution in this case. ( VIP & ACL  together )
    Regards,

    Hi,
I think the easier way that you can do this is using a HTTP class-map (regardless of the load balanced protocol, weird eh?)
Instead of an ACL you would use the match source-address command to specify the source allowed to make it to the servers.
Here is how it looks like:
class-map type http loadbalance match-any Hosts
      10 match source-address 192.168.10.20 255.255.255.255
      11 match source-address 192.168.10.21 255.255.255.255
      12 match source-address 192.168.10.22 255.255.255.255
    class-map match-any Internet
      2 match virtual-address 192.168.20.15 tcp eq www
    policy-map type loadbalance first-match Internet-FMP
      class Hosts
        serverfarm Backend
    policy-map multi-match CLIENT-VIPS
      class Internet
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance policy Internet-FMP
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
    Hope this helps!

  • ACL's on ACE Appliance

    Hi,
In the ACE Appliance management remote access examples there is an ACL which has "permit ip any any" but in my test configurations it works fine without this. For example, icmp is controlled by whether or not there is a matching class-map entry in the management class and this works whether the ACL is present or not.
What's the purpose of the "permit ip any any" ACL?
    thanks,
    Andrew.

I think there is a difference between traffic to the interface and traffic over the interface.
You can have a working management policy for ssh access and ICMP to the interface but to make sure traffic flows from the client side to the server side you need to allow it.
So that is where the permit IP any any access-list is necessary to make sure traffic flows through the ACE. IIRC there will be no traffic flowing through the appliance if you don't have the permit ip any access-list on the according interfaces.
The closest thing to this might be on a PIX or ASA. You have the ICMP traffic through the interface controlled by the ACL statements and ICMP traffic towards the interface controlled by the ICMP statement itself.
I hope that explains if i didn't get you wrong.
If am writing total BS i probably get corrected soon. :)

  • 60GB of mess ....

I am new to ipods, but have used MP3 players for quite a while. I have a fairly large audiobook collection 60GB + all in MP3 format, totaling many 100's of hours. I don't even want to consider re-ripping all this from CD again as I just don't have the time, but when setting up the ipod all the files which where on the pc in individual folders have been dumped together in one huge mess.
I think the answer might be to use playlists, but sorting 1000's of files into playlists sounds like a rather time consuming excercise, is there an easier way to import the files in the ipod - even a folder at a time would be OK, so that they stay in their folders, or get placed immediatley and without mucking up the order etc into playlists I may create ? I did try a piece of software what was meant to join the individual MP3 files together and turn them into a single audiobook file, but the resulting files were corrupt and would not play correctly.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

You can list your purchase history in your iTunes store account.
Also you should have a purchased music playlist.
The other way of doing it is use the "Kind" column. If you don't see it, go to View>>Options and check "Kind"
Purchased music shows up as "Protected AAC" or for iTunes Plus, "Purchased AAC". You can use Kind to make a smart playlist containing purchased music - if you don't have already have a purchased playlist.
But be very careful about deleting music files and make sure you have good backups in case you make a mistake. Don't rely on the recycle bin - it doesn't usually have room for large numbers of music files.

  • Enabling ACL on 8510 MSR

    Hello all,
I am trying to apply an extended ACL on an interface of C8510 MSR with IOS Version 12.1(27b)E3.
    This is what i get
    C8510_CYB(config-if)#ip access-group 102 out
Warning: Could not apply ACLs on FastEthernet0/0/4
I reapply the access-group command no Warning message pops up but the ACL is not functional.
    Any workarounds for this.
    Thanks in advance
    Kapil Chandran

Your problem is that your 8510 does not have an ACL Daughter card. You can configure control-plane acls, but not data-plane acls without the ACL Daughter card. I think you need acl daughter card on this device in order to do so.

  • User settings reset and locked out of user folders ! How do I retreive?

    Hi everyone,
I'm sure a number of people here on the forums have come across the problem with the blue tint that appears every now and then. It usually appears when connecting an external monitor after the you come back from the screen saver.
Yesterday it happened for the first time without an external monitor connected. I have found a number of sites that have suggested using the command 'sudo chmod 664 *' within the Terminal. I have used it a couple of times to fix this problem but it did not work hence the reason it happened yesterday without a monitor connected. When I did use this command previously I first entered
    cd /library/colorsync/profiles/display
When i did it for this occassion i forgot to enter the display folder first.
After this I did a restart and all my user settings were reset and I was locked out of all my user folders. I lost all my desktop settings and everything was back to when I first started my computer.
I did some hunting and found the command 'sudo chmod 777'. I tried this then did a reset and my desktop background returned and the folders were unlocked.
What I want to know is if this is the correct command to bring everything back to normal?
My user permissions in terminal are listed below

    Does this look correct ??
Any help would be great thanks

I assume this access is open to everyone when I connecto any wireless network
No necessarily, it depends whether you just changed your home folders and nothing else.
But just your home folders present a problems as they should have extended attributes which are now removed. More on that later.
Using one chmod to a directory affects all equally, though the files may have individually different permissions.
I don't know how extensively you have altered the modes permissions, but from what you have shown in your first post your Home folders are incorrect.
For your home folder, which is the default location when you start Terminal, and I dont think you have strayed from there, all the listings, except Parallels are folders, prefaced with the letter d. for folder.
On my machine, for example, the pattern for the home folders all show
    drwx------@ 5 xxxxxx staff 170 25 Jun 06:07 Desktop
normally that would be chmod 700 Desktop which will get you
    drwx------
but note the @ which shows an extended attribute or ACL in Leopard.
to write the ACL shown as @
    You will need to read
man chmod about ACL MANIPULATION OPTIONS
Personally, I think that playing around with chmod without a backup was not a good idea, and I wonder if your ambition has exceeded your knowledge. Sorry if that sounds tough, but a possible Archive and Install may be your safest path I think because what you have messed with was no small oops with a simple fix.
You could just change those home folders to chmod 700 and see how it goes without the attribute, or bite the bullet and do an Archive and Install.
I do not run parallels and so have no idea what is permissions should be.
That Time capsule is starting to look pretty good now

  • Rebuild a tm archive moved by cp

    Hello,
I moved the whole Backups.backupdb directory from an external HDD to another (internal) HDD.
The reason was that I had to re-initialize the backup HDD, which could not be repaired otherwise by the Disk Utility.
The scheme was to re-initialize the external HDD then move the backup directory back to the external HDD.
Now I know that things would have been simple through a block type copy, using Disk Util to create an image and then restore from this image.
But ... I did the move using cp -pPR to the internal HDD (after removing the restrictive ACLs from the backup directory).
The internal HDD is formatted in Apple GUID partition table, and I copied on a Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    The OS is X.7.5
After the move I noted that the size of the backup directory, once moved to the other HDD, and as shown by finder, was totally erroneous:
about 600 Gb instead of 100 Gb
Perhaps an issue with hard links? The symptoms are similar.
However, I thought OS X.7.5 could handle hard links through cp.
The thing is, 600 Gb is too big to copy back the backup directory to the external HDD.
Moreover, since the hard links are possibly messed up, I think some sort of repair is required to get back the backup as it was.
Another note: as it is now on the internal HDD, Time Machine fonctionalities are available on this backup: I can open and browse through the different snapshots and recover old files. But 600 Gb is definitively too big to keep it as such.
At least if I could recover a few consistent (complete) snapshots, that would be great.
Is there any solution, apart from a fresh restart of time machine?
    Thanks for your kind help.
    Thierry

    Hello baltwo,
I did spend a few hours trying to find the solution there, and that was very profitable, as a starter.
However, my issue goes beyond the materials available.
I guess I did the wrong thing with the cp -pPR command, but this does not appears among the usual errors.
Thanks for directing me to that excellent reference, anyway.
    Best Regards
    Thierry

  • Reason 4 and Digital Performer 6 user report

Did a simple upgrade to SL last night on my MacBook. No erase & install just ran the permissions repair and drive repair before the install. Repaired permissions after, too.
Reason 4 works fine, MOTU Performer 6 works fine. When I launched Performer it sent me to the Pace Interlok site for an update to that, but no problem. Also it rechecked all my AU plugins on first run.
I was playing music an hour after starting the upgrade. Good deal.

  • 1000s of photos randomly sorted into 1000s of folders.  Any ideas for getting them out without opening each one??

Somehow, very much unintentionally (it might have something to do with a 2 yr old "typing" on the keyboard while I wasn't looking), 1000s of my photos have been placed into separate folders, 2 or 3 random photos or videos in each folder.  I have started opening each folder and moving the photos out, but with almost 1600 folders to go, I need to know if some else has ever encountered this issue, and if so, did you find a quicker way to get the photos out of the folders without having to manually open each one?
For the record, I now have my computer set to lock my screen when I leave my desk, lesson learned.

I am using an iMac with iOS 7.0.4. All of the photos were on iPhoto '11 after I updated to 9.4.3, and Aperture 3.4.5, but a few months ago they all disappeared from the iPhoto and Aperture libraries, Events, Photos and Faces sections. A few weeks later, I noticed a bunch of new folders on my external hard drive with the same title in a serial list of numbers, had somehow been created.  Since I still had the pictures backed up on an external hard drive, I didn't worry about it too much at the time, but today I needed to find a picture from years ago and that brought up the need to fix the mess. In opening the 200 or so files that I have already opened, I noticed that they all listed in their details that they had been modified on 7/27/2013, from 12:07 am to 12:33 am (I guess it wasn't the 2 yr old's fault after all, because she would have been sleeping, sorry kiddo).  The peculiar thing is that there is no rhyme or reason to the way the photos and videos were put in the folders. Some folders have only photos from a broad range of time, some have photos and videos, but none of them are sequential in time within the folder. When I transfer the photos and videos out of the folders, into the main overall picture folder, some of them are already in the main folder and some of them are not, meaning that I can't just take for granted that they are all copies, and delete all of the folders with that certain name.
Since I have now cleared my child of being the culprit for all of this mess, I'm thinking it must have been caused by a computer glitch or an update, as Terence suggested, especially considering the time of night when the changes took place.  All that is listed in the software update section of my System Preferences area is an update to the AirPort Utility to version 6.3 on 7/26/23 at 12:23 pm. iPhoto had updadated to 9.4.3 on 4/27/13, but none of the files showed modifications on any date other than 7/27/13.  Aperture had also updated to version 3.4.5, but it had updated days earlier on 7/11/13. Nothing had updated since 7/11/13 until AirPort Utility updated on 7/26/23, and nothing updated after that until 9/12/13.

  • Help with timing, input from Daq, output sound

    Hi
    I am a student member of OSA, working on a laser listener project to be used in examples for high schools students. It is a pretty old and simple experiment but something I think students would be into. {any suggestions for other experiments anyone might have I would love to hear}
I read a voltage from a Daq off a reciever circuit, that signal is noisey so I filter it for the human voice range, 60Hz - 2000Hz. Then that filtered signal goes to the play waveform express VI. It works but the snag is I keep getting a "beeping" in the output sound, I believe this is from the loop cycling.  I have thought of something like a master/slave loops, storing the data in an array then waiting a sec or two and playing the sound from this data so I dont have to wait on the Daq to acquire new data. Any help or suggestions are greatly apprciated.
This is a rough version sorry about the mess. I think it should also be noted that if the "Time Duration" is larger that 0.02 then that makes the number of samples larger than what the Daq can handle.
Thank you very much in advance for all of the help and your time.

    Hi Jason,
I took a look at what is happening in the play waveform express VI and the issue may be related to starting/stopping the sound card every time the loop iterates, similar to what I suggested with the DAQmx VIs in my previous post. To look into the code behind an express VI, you should copy the express VI to another section of your code or to another VI completely, because once you show the block diagram for it, you will not be able to use the express VI configuration dialog anymore for that instance of the VI. Once you copy the play waveform express VI, right click on the copy and select "Open Front Panel." Then, navigate to the block diagram and keep opening the subVIs until you find the "Simple Write" VI (see below for a screenshot of this VI). Here, you will see that there is a "Sound Output configure" VI as well as a "Sound Output Clear" VI. Since these are within the while loop of your top level VI, the "beeping" in your output may be caused by the constant configuring and stopping of the sound card with these VIs. What I suggest is that you use the code in the express VI as an example to code your own sound output vi that is configured once outside the while loop and stopped once after the while loop. Hope this helps!

  • High memory usage and error creating access rules

    Hi guys
I'm having a problem with the memory and also trying to create some rules on the CISCO ASA. The version that I got installed was the 8.2.5.33 on a CISCO 5520 with 512 RAM, the memory usage is on 99% used, 1% free and because of that when I'm trying to create a new rule the firewall brings me the next error
So what I did was a downgrade to the version 8.2 (4) 4 and the memory went down a little (82% used, 18% free) but I still got the error when I'm creating an access rule on the device. One thing and I'm not sure if this could affect on the performance are the number of access list and the object groups that are created.
I already open a case with CISCO TAC and they are checking if the problem is with the memory capacity or maybe a memory leak.
Also the doubt that I got is with the memory that I got now available should I can create access rules or 82 is still to hig to create a rule or and object group?
    Regards

    Hi,
Can you check what is the amount of ACEs you have on the ACLs in use?
I think if you use the command "show access-list " the first line should give you the total amount of ACEs in the ACL

  • Hangs after updating to 10.4.5

    896MB RAM
    G4 DP 500MHz
I've had no problems with 10.4.4 but saw the software update pop up on my desktop. (Big mistake.)
Updated via software update with no interruptions. Restarted as directed. Problem: OS X will show progress bar moving left to right. Normally, as soon as the bar hits the right side, the login screen appears. That's not happening. OS X is hanging.
I've read that some folks have rebooted in Safe Mode. That didn't work for me. I've read that some had problems with the Startup items. That didn't work for me. I've read (after previous upgrade problems) that some folks had problems with Cache files. That didn't work for me. I even removed the Extensions.kextcache file (and the other one) with no luck. OS X is still hanging. I removed all connections and extra RAM with no luck.
I could be wrong but I think the problem lies with login since OS X is moving along all the way until the login screen is supposed to appear (but doesn't.) I've found these files: waiting4loginwindow.pid and loginwindow.boottime. Both are the most recent files that were modified at or after the time of software update to 10.4.5 from 10.4.4.
I'm at a loss as to what to do next (besides a painful reinstall back to 10.4.) I've rebooted to OS 9.2.2 to submit this question. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It seems to me that some fail to realize that Apple did not intend for all this mess. Just think about that for a moment. Why would Apple permit the Software Update to automatically appear, permit you to update the software, all without insisting you do the following: Verify/Repair Permissions, take out all extra RAM, disconnect all wires (except the power and display,) etc., etc? It's because MacOS is supposed to be simple.
Some of us have found glitches. I think I found a simple glitch. So simple, it has cost me a day's worth of work. I still haven't been able to find a solution.
If you read other problems and the solutions are recommending reinstall, you are essentually reading about our MacOS becoming more and more like Windows. Not good. Stating that all updates should be applied only after you have done all of the above is not good either. I think I've learned my lesson to not update any more.
If you do have a solution, thanks in advance for any info. (Rebooted in OS 9.2.2.)
