Acrobat 9 Pro - Bookmarks snapping to page boundary.

Most PDFs I work with are set to display as single-page continuous.  When, for example, a chapter starts in the middle of the page, I try to scroll to the middle of the page before creating the bookmark.  Usually this works OK.  But if I try to create a bookmark near the top of the page and then click on it to test it, it snaps to the very top of the page.  If I try to create a bookmark near the bottom of the page, it snaps to the top of the next page when I test it.
I'm really frustrated by this behavior, which also occurred in Acrobat 8.  I've received PDFs from elsewhere that don't behave this way — they contain bookmarks that jump almost to the bottom of the target page.
What do I need to do to get the results I'm looking for?

Hi,
Played with the PDF at the link's end.
Both the page magnification value and the page display setting affect what is viewed by a Bookmark.
Whatever these variables had set when you created the Bookmark from the newly created named destination
(or from selected page content) will determine what is displayed by the Bookmark.
For a given page display, the page magnification becomes the significant variable.
With that said, using a Named Destination will call for additional editing.
(neglected to mention this before   )
Access a Bookmark's Properties.
Open the Actions tab.
Select the Action shown in the bottom 'window'.
I suspect you'll see a Page number where you expected a Named Destination.
Selecte Edit. Tick "Use Named Destination".
Click "Browse".
Select appropriate named destination from the list.
OK > OK > OK
Be well...

Email with pdf file is sent to two users
UserA can open pdf and extract pages
    UserB cannot
    Pdf is not secure
Both users have been using this feature for months and now all of a sudding UserB is unable to because the options are greyed out
    Users are on Windows XP
A replair on Adobe has been done
Update on Adobe Acrobat has been done to the latest version
Yes, version is licensed and activated
Tried contacting Adobe via chat and apparently they only help with initial installation of acrobat or updates so they say they were unable to assist
Anyone out there that can assist would be greatly appreciated. :-)

Content copying is copy/paste of text, pictures, etc. Not taking
    entire pages.
Because if you can extract a page, you can extract all pages. Now you
have an unprotected document, so the security would be especially
    pointless.

  • How can I resize a pdf page content with annotations and highlights in Acrobat Pro?

How can I resize a pdf page content with annotations and highlights in Acrobat Pro while maintaining page size and annotation/highlight interactivity? I've tried to use the crop tool in Acrobat Pro (9) and the page does resize, but the highlights and annotations go all over the place. I specifically need to scale the page content smaller (83%) but maintain page size and annotation/highlight to content connection and interactivity.

An old trick (not recommended) would be to print to a new PDF with the page size selected but a scaling of the content. Only print the document, not the markup, to a new PDF. Close that PDF when done and reopen the old one (or maybe a copy of the old one for safety) and use Document Replace pages and select the new document to replace your current pages. You will then have to go back through the markup to locate it all correctly. There may be a more elegant way, but this may be the fastest.

  • Xerox 7830 fails to obey "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option in Acrobat Pro -- Adobe issue or Xerox issue? Workaround?

Our former office printer (Xerox 7345) had no problem with this. But the new Xerox 7830 fails to obey the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option in Acrobat Pro. Even the "Page Setup" is overridden by the Xerox printer driver. It is extremely annoying to have to go into the Xerox driver dialog every time, regardless of that check in the box and the correct dimensions being displayed in the picture.....

Unfortunately, not only does this not solve the problem with multi-page-size documents, but it's begun happening on files which are all one size as well, where that box isn't even checked.
It appears that what's happening is the newer versions of Adobe Acrobat don't play nicely with emulated postscript support past a certain date. We're replacing our Canon with a newer model that has actual postscript support, and if that resolves the issue I'll be certain to post confirmation here. Copies of Adobe Acrobat 7 and 8 in our office haven't seen this problem at all; it's simply everyone who has upgraded past that point that can't print reliably.
More news next week, after we get the new copier.

  • How to make Adobe acrobat feature to convert SAP  Pages to PDF available for multiple users connected to the same server

We have installed Adobe Acrobat X Pro- English,Francais,Deutsch version 10.1.9 in our test environment and tried  testing it for converting SAP pages into PDF with a few pilot users. In doing so we faced a challenge, where only one user at a time can use Adobe Acrobat PRO to convert SAP pages in to PDF.As long as the first user who  is connected to Adobe Acrobat Pro via SAP isn’t logged off, other users connected to the same  server  are not being able to get the “Save As” dialog box to save the PDF in their preferred location.
This is a business requirement and we need an urgent solution for the same. Can anyone help us in telling us if this is possible and if yes the how to go about?

It's not something we deal with here, the LiveCycle products are a different world. Key points: Adobe LiveCycle is a range of products, some desktop, some server. LiveCycle PDF Generator is the one you should look at, it comes in 3 editions. License terms are by negotiation. Key management is via its Java API.

  • Bookmarks disappear after file save in Acrobat Pro 9

I recently bought Acrobat Pro 9 and have run into a problem with creating, editing and saving bookmarks. (I use InDesign CS2 to create most of my PDFs.)
On only one occasion could I create bookmarks in a normal manner, i.e., selecting pages to bookmark, creating a bookmark using the keyboard <Command B> and entering text into its label. I got through the entire list of bookmarks and saved the file.
When I reopened it, all but one had disappeared. This has happened most of the time.
But there is an additional wrinkle. Except for that one “normal” occasion, what usually happens is that whenever I create a bookmark (by whichever method), my ability to enter text into the label is so short that the only way I can accomplish it is to prepare a list of label contents in a word processor and copy/paste each line into each created bookmark. And I do have to be quick about it. Acrobat will keep generating functional bookmarks as you go along, but when they're all “Untitled” and you can't get get in there to do any real edits, there isn't any point to having bookmarks. (I'm a fast typist.) Invoking TouchUp Text at first gave me a small reprieve, but since then it hasn't helped at all.
When I save the document and close it, on reopening I find again that all the bookmarks have disappeared. Conclusion: they didn't really get saved in the first place.
    Previously I used Acrobat 5.

I see that this is a very old thread. I'm using Acrobat Pro 9.3.2 on OS 10.6.6 and seeing something similar. No real solution, but I thought I'd add a data point and my workaround.
It seems as though SOME, but not ALL, of my bookmarks are "taking." Right now, whenever I add a bookmark AFTER what's probably the first bookmark created in the document, it MIGHT stick around after a save. When I add a bookmark BEFORE that bookmark (as in "it's positioned higher on the list in the sidebar"), it doesn't save. I ended up moving the "good" bookmark to the front of the list, and then adding additional bookmarks after it. These all stuck around after a save.
Because of bugs like this, I'm using Preview in every case possible. Acrobat does more, but it sucks at the basics things you'd expect to work flawlessly. Oh well!

  • Can I create a page border using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9?

I'm making a certificate of completion and would like to create a page border.  Is there any way to do this is Adobe Acrobat Pro 9?

If what you want to do is scale a page down to a smaller size, Acrobat doesn't do that, not directly anyway. I think there are plugins for Acrobat that can do this.
if you're desperate and/or don't want to go to that expense, there is a hack available in Acrobat that can get you there. If you've added other interactive elements (links, bookmarks, etc.), you'd have to recreate them. Post again, preferably in a new topic (since it doesn't apply to this one), for more info.

  • I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud

I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud option in Acrobat. Kindly help me to sortout this problems?

So I tried generating the same PDFs on two other computers that have Acrobat 9 Pro.  Results were reproduced.  The verdict is:
    - complex PDF files (that is, containing cross-references, tables of contents, and bookmarks) generated by Acrobat 9.x Pro are roughly 2-5x larger than the identical file generated with Acrobat 8.x Pro.
    - different PDF conversion settings make a negligable difference (less than 10% rather than 70-80%).
    - using the "Reduce File Size" or "Optimize PDF" option cuts the file size roughly in half, almost always resulting in a "image downsampling mask" warning message, which requires acknowledgement (that is a problem for batch processing or automation).
    - adding an Acrobat watermark to the file cuts the file size roughly in half.
    - just using Save As to another filename has no effect on file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 with links but no PDF bookmarks still results in the inflated file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 without any links or bookmarks results in approximately the same file size as the Acrobat 8 PDF with full links and bookmarks.
It appears that Acrobat 9's manner of adding links is what's bloating  the files, and in my case it's probably not related to images or image resolution/print quality.  It's a shame, because Acrobat 9 seems to have made some  improvements to the Review Tracker interface, and a few other bells and  whistles which I haven't really gotten around to exporing yet.  But  unless I find a way to keep my links and the PDF file sizes comparable to what I was  getting with Acrobat 8 Pro, it looks like I'm going to stay with Acrobat 8.

  • Bookmark issues In Acrobat Pro!

    Hi everyone,
Over the past month we have been having issues where a customer of our's when she is creating PDF files from Word, she isn't able to add bookmarks to certain paragraphs or link any of the document to Acrobat Pro X after the document is created from Word at all. She selects various bookmark styles that she wants to have in our output file of her PDF file to select certain things, but sometimes it will pick up bookmarks and work for some of the document, other times it  just wont wont work at all and just selects its on ones, without even telling it to do so. i.e like Test No, Heading 1, Heading 2 or Paragraph three. She will have problems where Heading 1 wont  won't appear in capitals from when it was showing as lower case letters in Word. Parts of the document, she wants it to not show certain paragrahs, it still chooses and back to what i was saying before it will just choose to bookmark all of the paragraph and a lot of the time it adds funny letters and numbers to a lot of the document aswell.
It really has been driving us crazy!!!, we have tried numerous things, tried installing the software and then re-updating the program with the 1.4.1 update as it is Acrobat 10.0 she is using. We have even had tried selecting different Bookmarks on a fresh template from word and it still behaves in the same way. We have tried Resetting her profile and have now even came to the point of complete rebuild, re-installing  Windows 7,Office and Acrobat Pro and every other software on her account. If someone could give some advice or be able to offer a complete fix for this, it would really help put a end to this problem that has gone further than past the funny stage.

Well I haven't found a fix, but I'm reasonably sure this issue has arisen because I combined pdf documents from two different sources - 1.  Open office calc on windows 7 and  2.  Pages on Mac OS X lion.  Not sure why, but that is the only difference.  Will post this as a separate issue, as in-document links are also effected by this distinction.  So not all pdf documents are created equally...   After spending an hour solving the green "signature detected where none exist" bar this morning, this latest fiasco has not left me too impressed with adobe.  But that's tech folks...

  • Convert from Word 2007 to Acrobat Pro 9; bookmark issue

When converting from Word 2007 to PDF using Acrobat Pro 9, enabling "Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks", not only are Headings converted to bookmarks, but bulleted text (styles), as well.  I attached the subsequent PDF, but this forum does not permit the document attachment.  I really only want to show the Headings.  (It may be noteworthy to mention that when using this same set of styles in Word 2003 and Acrobat Pro7 the conversion was seamless.)
Does anyone know how to correct this?  I have reviewed my Word styles and the issue does not appear to be on the document level.  Am I missing some obscure setting?
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks.
    -PS

I had a similar situation occur when converting Word 2007 docs to Acrobat Pro 9 Extended via the PDFMaker (Acrobat add-on tab in Word 2007), and I want to share a workaround. In summary, I had extraneous bookmarks appear in the PDF (heading 3s, body text, XE Index tags, etc.)  that I did not select to be in the PDF.  I contacted Adobe's support and ended up talking for approx. 2.5 hrs to 2 different reps with no solution. They reproduced the issue on their end, but couldn't figure out how to fix this. I recently upgraded to Tech Comm Suite 2.5 from 1.0. The Word 2007 conversion to PDF via Acrobat Pro 8.x worked fine.
Scenario: I have 400-page user guides that I am required to publish as 'Press Quality' with navigable bookmarks to certain headings in the PDF. I have to generate the PDF via the Acrobat Add-On tab in Word, since I do not want to manually insert bookmarks in the PDF for 400 page documents (as you would when using the Adobe Print driver or 'Save As PDF' operation).
In the Adobe PDF Maker dialog, I have the following Application Settings selected in the General tab:
    Create Bookmarks
    Add Links
In the Bookmarks tab,  I originally had only two Elements selected for bookmarks:
Heading 1 (a Word Heading already present) as the Level 1 Bookmark.
Table of Contents Bookmark (a Word Style I created) as the Level 2 Bookmark.
As a result, the Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks and Convert Styles to Bookmarks were both enabled in the Bookmarks tab.
The resulting PDF contained extraneous bookmarks that I did NOT select, such as Heading 2s, 3s, even body text - too much to clean up for 400-page documents! Additionally, and this was annoying too - I noticed that all bookmarks appeared as Level 1 Bookmarks, making the PDF Bookmarks really messy. I converted multiple Word 2007 documents with the same results.
    How I resolved the issue:
In the Word 2007 document, open the Styles window, select all instances of the specific Word Heading (in my case, Heading 1). All instances of the selected Word Heading will be selected in the doc.
Click the New Style icon in the lower left part of the Styles window.
In the Create New Style from Formatting dialog, create a new style name (e.g., I created H1).
Just to be sure to NOT create the new style from an existing Word Heading, I selected (no style) in the Style Based On field.
Configure the remaining formatting items as necessary, and then click OK. All of the selected instances from the old Word Heading style are now changed to the new style created (in my case, H1).
Click the Preferences tab in the Acrobat add-on tab in Word 2007, and open the Bookmarks tab.
Remove the old Word Heading (in my case, it was Heading 1) so it no longer will be included as a Bookmark in the PDF.
Select the new Word Style that you created (in my case, H1) to be generated as the Level 2 bookmark. Note: My original Level 1 bookmark, "TOC Bookmark," is still selected. Now, only the Convert Word Styles to Bookmarks is enabled in the Bookmarks tab.
Generate the PDF once again via the PDFMaker, and no extraneous bookmarks appear in the PDF.
Note: I also noticed that when Index tags (XE tags) were present in an element selected to be a bookmark in the PDF (such as my new style, H1), they also appeared in the PDF Bookmarks pane. I just moved the XE tags down to the body text so they would no longer appear in the PDF.
Question for discussion: Maybe there is a bug in the PDFMaker when both Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks and Convert Styles to Bookmarks are selected? The extraneous bookmarks do not appear in my PDF when only Convert Word Styles is selected.

  • I am trying to use Acrobat Pro version XI to crop my PDF but can't find the "PAGES" tools

I have a 1 page PDF that is 9.5 inches wide with about 1.5 inches of margin.  I want to crop off the extra white space and center the image so that it fits on a normal letter sized page.  However, I can't find any sort of crop or trim command in Acrobat.  When I google cropping a PDF I find references to a crop command that is in some sort of "pages" collection of tools but I don't have any pages menu either.  Is there a way to use Acrobat Pro for cropping ?  How?
I also have photoshop and have tried importing and cropping there but when I export the image back to PDF format I find that its 10X the size it started.  Its important for my purposes that the file be small.

Well it was installed yesterday and I spent hours trying to find the option  as virtually the first thing I did when I launched it, so I'm quite sure I would have remembered if I changed it.  However it was installed by a push from our corporate software distribution system so maybe that has a way of reconfiguring some options. Why they'd bother is a mystery to me though.  Anyway, good to know, thanks again

  • How do I get the PDF Convert feature of Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.4.4, which makes a PDF of a web page interactive, to work in Firefox 4.0.1?

I just installed (on my Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) operating system/Intel i5 CPU M560 2.67 GHz) and am now using as my default browser Firefox 4.0.1 because Internet Explorer 9 was giving me so much trouble--lack of display of web content, lack of PDF reproduction when web content displayed, screwball formatting display, etc., all of which has been remedied by the mere installation of Firefox 4.0.1.
How do I get the PDF Convert feature of Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.4.4, which converts a web page to an interactive PDF, to set up and work on Firefox 4.0.1?

You can not do that using Adobe Acrobat 9. Adobe never made a create PDF add-on for Firefox for use with Adobe Acrobat 9. They created a Firefox add-on for use with Acrobat X, but currently that one does not work with Firefox 4 though Adobe are working on an update.

You can download the trial version (http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html) to convert the PDF back to WORD if you do not have the original. The conversion may not be perfect, but it is typically better than starting from scratch. You may be lucky and get a good result. You might check the settings (in the save screen) to try retain format versus retain text flow. The format version can be a pain to edit since it creates a bunch of text boxes. The flow version may require you to reformat in WORD, but you likely would want to do that anyway.

  • Reinstalled Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 won't let me print web pages to PDFs

I'm really ticked at Adobe's "help" in updating the program only to cause a lot of misery.  I'd read Acrobat had a security update, and got a constant reminder from Adobe update to install the available update.  I've been using Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 with absolutely no problems printing web pages to PDFs.  I installed the 8.1.7 update which immediately disabled Acrobat completely.  So I wasted a lot of time uninstalling Acrobat and reinstalling sequential versions to get back to 8.1.6.  Now I can't print web pages to a PDF.
I had NOT done anything else to installed programs in the meantime, except that probably Norton has automatically updated antivirus files in the background.  I don't have any problems using Acrobat to open and print an existing PDF, or to create new PDFs from my scanner.  I can do a hardcopy print of a webpage by selecting my Brother printer.  From Word 2002 and Excel 2002, I can create a PDF by "printing" to Acrobat as usual.   The only problem is creating a PDF by "printing" a webpage by selecting Acrobat as the device from the list of available printers.  This problem happens both with Firefox and with Internet Explorer 7.
I have Windows XP Pro SP3.  I did the most recent Windows Tuesday security update several days before messing around with Acrobat and did not have any problems printing PDF files from Firefox or IE7.  So, it seems like it's clearly an Adobe Acrobat problem.  I get the small box saying "Preparing to Print" which goes nowhere and then I have to use the Task Manager to get out of the loop.  That closes Firefox, and when I reopen Firefox, the same webpage comes up.

  • Line spacing (leading) when converting web page to PDF with Acrobat Pro 8.1.2

I recently upgraded from Acrobat Pro version 7.0.9 to version 8.1.2 (Windows XP Pro). In many cases, when I "Convert current web page to an Adobe PDF file" using the Adobe PDF toolbar in Internet Explorer, the spacing between lines is much larger with version 8 than it was with version 7. Has anyone else observed this? Is there any way to control leading?
