Acrobat Activation

Upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, and have no problems with my CS5 Creative Suite except for Acrobat.
I keep getting a messafe saying "Adobe Acrobat was installed as part of a suite. To enable Adobe Acrobat, please start another component of this suite (such as Adobe Photoshop)."
I have open every application in the suite, and Acrobat just keeps showing this message everytime I open Acrobat.
Can some please help me to find a solution so I can use Acrobat again, thanks.

Lots of known issues with Lion and doing it as an upgrade install is nothing short of a crapshoot. Operating systems, IMO, should never be upgraded. Only and clean install is going to be reliable.
You can read about the known issues here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html
I'm sure there are plenty of issues that remain unknown.

  • Adobe Acrobat Activation Issue

    Scenario:
PC 1 and PC 2 have been image from PC A and PC B. A and B both contained Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro under specific license numbers. Thus, I uninstalled Adobe from 1 and 2. On 1, when uninstalling Adobe, I was prompted to deactivate the software. However, this requires internet connectivity of which I don't have due to facility constraints. Thus, I skipped this step and continued unstalling. The process completed then I reinstalled the software. I was prompted to accept the User Agreement, however, the program started directly without asking me to activate the software. On 2, I uninstalled the software, but I was never prompted for deactivation. When I reinstalled, the software installed perfectly. I started it up, accepted the User Agreement, and it prompted me for activation. Why does one not prompt me for activation and the other one doesn't. How can I fix this? Can I fully remove Adobe so that this deactivation process doesn't hinder me from activating my software under the current license?

Did you do a Custom installation of CS3 (not attempting to install Acrobat over Acrobat 3D?)? If not then it might have made a mess the Acrobat activation component. I think you're probably on the correct path in doing the uninstall. You may want to use the cleanup script. Then reinstall Acrobat 3D and do a custom installation of CS3.

  • Adobe Acrobat Activation Problem

One of our users is having a problem with Adobe Acrobat Standard 8 OEM. It was working fine until a recent update. Now it opens for about ten seconds and then closes. If I open Distiller, it says that Acrobat needs to be activated which it already has been. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, but the same problem remains. I've also uninstalled with Microsoft Windows Installer and then reinstalled. An Adobe tech has worked on this for about an hour to no avail. There's got to be some way to activate this copy and use. Appreciate your assistance.

Many people sem to have this problem and for most, rebooting does not solve it.
I have this problem, too. I'm on Acrobat 8 and Windows XP.
    Usually this works for me:
    - deleting the acrotray process (ctrl alt dl, select processes, sort alphabetically, delete acrotray)
    - deleting the Flexnet file (_00080000_tsf.data in FLEXNET folder - probably at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FLEXnet).
    Sometimes it doesn't.
When it doesn't, I go into MS-Word, open a random doc and click on the PDF icon on the toolbar (this bypasses the PDF-writing method which uses your printer setup/drivers). Somehow, this works fine and the PDF is created.
I then go to the original doc I wanted to create, in any app, and use the printer (ie 'control p') driver to write the PDF - the method that had originally failed. The PDF then writes no problem. This always fixes it.
If this doesn't work, there are multiple (and some very complex) fixes suggested by Adobe in the Help section online - search for 'Adobe 8 activation error'. Hopefully the above may help.
Hope this helps - but users seem to all have different configurations and different fixes.

  • Windows 7/Acrobat Activation Issue

Markgerlac- I had the same issue you did, and, unfortunately, your thread is locked. I do not believe this is a Windows 7 issue, but sloppy Adobe coding.
Apparently, if you install Creative Suite on a new box (I just build one over the weekend), and reinstall Creative Suite, you need to be sure that the first program you open is NOT ACROBAT PROFESSIONAL. If it is, the solution is to uninstall the suite, reinstall, and make sure that you open Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc, first.
I am an hour into the uninstall, after spending much time on the phone with a Mumbai tech support person who I don't think knows how to turn on a computer. FInally hung up, tried again, and got someone who seemed up on the topic.
I had a three day experience installing CS3, and no problem with the initial install of CS4. How silly of me to think Adobe actually cleaned up their install coding.

A few interesting twists, but this fix works.
Also, I should say that CS4 rocks with the new Intel eight quad chip and Windows 7. Unbelievable. Even had some Apple friends thinking about switching. I just wish Adobe would clean up its install code.

  • Acrobat 7 Pro requires activation from time to time

I have installed Acrobat 7 Pro v7.1.0 on a netbook.
Now, Acrobat requires activations. The time distance between activation requirements gets shorter and shorter.
The Error Message (translated from german to english):
The configuration of your computer was changed since last activation
If you want to use your product furtgher press OK to reactivate it again
    for the new system configuration.
After pressing OK the activation process starts and is finished with a "Thank you for activating".
The error occurs sometimes 5 timesc a day !!!
I am wondering how often i can activate the product.
I have NO VMware or other virtual machine software running on this netbook.
I've already reinstalled the software. Same error.

XP 64-bit is unsupported. However, when these problems occur under Acrobat 7, there was a patch downloadable from an Adobe site. It was only made available through the Activation hotline, since it required a reset of the Acrobat activation settings on the Adobe activation server. I do not know if they Adobe makes this patch available to XP 64-bit users or if it will solve the problem in this environment.

  • Adobe Acrobat 3d toolkit activation issue

I recently updated a user to CS3 Premium and the 3D toolkit was working fine until the install. The user opened up the 3D toolkit and the following error message was shown " Acrobat 3D must be activated to use #D toolkit". I checked 3D acrobat and the activation was grayed out. I contacted tech support and they directed me to Activation and then activation sent me back to Tech support. Tech support decided it was a activation patch issue so I went back to activation. Activation told me no patch available for 3D Acrobat. SO, I called tech support back and they told me ,IE7 issue and had to install the newest update. I installed and still have the same issue. Does anyone know what is causing this? and How can I fix the issue? I am in the process of uninstalling CS3 to get it back to where it was working for the user and then deal with this issue later. I do have the same issue with another user that doesn't use the 3D toolkit for now. Please, I am about to lose it.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Problems opening PDFs from SharePoint 2010 with Acrobat X Pro

Is anyone else having problems integrating pdf document support into Sharepoint 2010?
I now have the icon showing for any pdf documents saved in a Document Lirary, However I don't get the options of Checking out - editing an checking in. There is also no revision control. I think that when I open a pdf document, the servers own copy of Adobe Reader opens, and not my local copy of Reader or Acrobat X pro.
I've done what it says in the Administrators guide for Sharepoint integration and I'm still unable to get this functionality to work. As we use interactivve pdfs for a lot of our internal documentation the pdf integration features are very important.
Any help from users who have already been through the pain of sharepoint integration would be really appreciated.
    Regards.

    Hi Bill,
Looking at your initial problem of not being able to open the SharePoint hosted PDF document from the web browser.
Could you please verify that as per the "Enterprise Administration Guide", the DocIcon.xml file of your server contains the following line:
    <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="AdobePDF.png" OpenControl="AdobeAcrobat.OpenDocuments"/>
Please verify that the OpenControl attribute is also mentioned correctly. Without this the Acrobat Active X component would not be invoked.
    thanks,
    Shivani

  • My computer crashed and I lost Acrobat Pro.

How do I get it reinstalled on my new machine? Thank you.

    Hey melny15,
I would certainly help you, but firstly please let me know what version of Acrobat and OS are you using.
You might refer the following link for downloading Acrobat pro:
    Other downloads
If you are using Acrobat subscription, then use your Adobe ID and Password to activate the software.
If you have purchased a license, then provide your serial number for Acrobat activation.
    Hope this helps.
    Let me know.

  • Editing pdfs with Adobe Acrobat professional 9

So, I'm editing a pdf by using the "Edit page" option in Acrobat professional, which opens a temp file in Illustrator, where I'm able to make my changes, etc. Then when I save the temp file, and go back to the pdf file, the whole page has shifted to the right, even when the changes I made in illustrator looked okay after I saved it. It's when I go back to the pdf that everything seems to have shifted. I have no idea why this is happening, it seems like it's a new issue, never had this problem before doing the same thing. Has anyone had the same problem? And if so, how do I fix it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

With Acrobat active, go to About Acrobat. Does your popup look like this?
If so you have the latest version.

  • PDF's not loading in browser - Internet Explorer 9, Adobe Reader X, Win 7 x64

I have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed and have a site that uses forms that need to be filled and submitted.  The problem is that when I open the form, they are opening in a seperate Window.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader
I've done 'detect' and repair several times.
I have checked and unchecked "Display PDF in browser" under EDIT -> PREFERENCES -> Internet
What I CAN tell is that when I go into Internet Explorer and look at the addons I do NOT see any of the acrobat add-ons that I see on my other computers (that work).
I've looked in the program files/common files/adobe/acrobat/active x folder and all the files are there but I don't see a way to make Internet Explorer force loading those or getting them in there manually.
Any help would be appreciated, I'm at my wits end!

    Thank you for this.
One you said this I checked and it was running IE 64bit.
For some reason IE*64 was the default browser (which shouldn't happen).  Since IE*32 wouldn't allow me to set it as default (greyed out) I installed Chrome, set it as default browser then fired IE*32 back up, set it as default and vioila it's fixed.
I'm embarrased I didn't think of that first....
    Thank you!

  • Moving threads, Pros vs Cons

    Pros
It may be more convenient to the user (IF they can figure out they have a PM, and IF they can relocate the thread)
    Cons
Jive thread movement BUGS and caching "issues"
Jive incorrectly implements thread moving: good forum software leaves a link in place of the former thread that redirects to the correct forum. This ensures that the user can find their original post, and also makes it clear and obvious to the user that they are switching forums (instead of being magically switched to another forum without even noticing).  Even better, it could be done so only the OP can see that shortcut link, if done correctly.  i.e. The Jive design team is being lead with the IT equivalent of Forrest Gump.
User confusion (not just of the OP, but of those who were attempting to assist them in the original forum)
It is more impolite and condescending to forcibly move their post, than simply directing them to the correct forum and asking them to copy and paste their post--OR asking them if they'd like the thread moved, before it is moved
In the off chance that a user finds someone who CAN help them in the wrong forum, it prevents them from continuing their interaction with that user
They aren't going to learn how to navigate to the correct forum if they're always moved to it
It wastes more time for moderators and will burn them out (theoretically), who should be doing worried about other issues, and should have a life
A simple and polite "here is the correct forum to ask your question" can be done by ANY helpful and knowledgeable user, not just mods
It obscures the fact that there is a website navigation learning curve problem for new users, by making it impossible to count the number of off topic posts placed here
Mods may not even know which forum to move a thread to, or could make a mistake and move it to the wrong forum
Notifying the user in this Jiveware is problematic because PMs are not very noticable even to forum "veterans", rendering that method of notifying users worthless
How many more @#$% reasons do we need to provide?
Obey the forum thought police.  Violators will be locked, deleted and banned.

My suggestion (copied from my original thread on Moving Threads):
    Rick,
for my part, it's not the moving of the thread, it's the unintended consequences of moving the thread that prompted me to start this topic.  Moving the threads, without somehow informing the viewer that they are going to a different area of the forum causes confusion.  And for posting my concern about the confusion, many questionable things have been said about me, by folks who really have no idea who I am or how long I have been around.  Trust me, that was, to say the least, highly frustrating.
In thinking more about this, it might be better to leave the topic header, but in the ONLY REPLY to the message would a post stating the particular thread has been moved to the correct forum. ... please click the following link to continue with this topic.  Let me give an example:
Topic header:  Acrobat activation isn't working
OP:  I keep trying to activate Acrobat and it won't work.  What can I do?
FIRST REPLY:  This question has been posted in the Forum Comments area.  To assist the OP, we have moved the topic to the Acrobat Forum, where they are likely to get answers appropriate to their initial query.  Please use the following link to access this  topic:  insert-link-here.
moderator:  COPY the topic to the Acrobat Forum, but leave a read-only version of the original topic where it was originally posted (ie: Forum Comments) with a slight change to the topic header so as not to confuse the database (such as: Acrobat activation isn't working - thread moved).
Doing something along these lines would allow you to move threads, as needed, but reduce the confusion that DOES result.

  • Fl8 OSX - how to deactivate?

    Hi there,
I want to move my Fl8 installation to a different Mac, but
    I'm not sure
how to deactivate it on the current machine. I checked the
    menus,
searched the Adobe KB, but to no avail.
Any pointers would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers Martin

    Hey fredb83300641,
If you could not see Deactivate option under Help menu, then Acrobat has been already deactivated and the Activate option must be clickable at that time.
If there is no Activate option as well under the Help menu, then Acrobat might not have activated properly on your machine.
So, you can simply uninstall & reinstall the software and then again activate it using the same serial key.
You can also refer the below mentioned link for Activation/Deactivation help for Acrobat :
    Activation & Deactivation Help
Please try the same way and let me know.
