Acrobat DC - scanning problem on Mac

Scanning using Acrobat DC Pro Trial on an iMac running Yosemite.
No problems at all scanning with Acrobat XI.
Acrobat DC recognises my scanner (a network attached Brother MFC9840CDW).
Sometimes DC will scan a page, but mostly it hangs having not quite completed the overview scan.
See screenshot.
There are some usability problems  (for example it won't let me select the "prompt to scan more pages" checkbox).
But the showstopper is that it takes me several attempts, iMac reboots, printer/scanner power on/off to scan each page.
Is this discussion the correct place to report such problems or is there another route?

ps I have updated to the latest lever of the Brother drivers for the 9840CDW.
It didn't help.
Acrobat Pro XI can see two Brother drivers for the device - a Twain driver and an ICA driver (whatever that is).
I always used the TWAIN driver with Acrobat XI and earlier.
Acrobat Pro DC can only see the ICA driver.
My heaviest use of Acrobat is to scan paper documents.
I have a document archive that takes much less room than if I kept the paper, and is easily searchable.
So I do need to get scanning working before I convert my trial into an actual purchase.

  • Scanning problems in Mac OS 10.9.5 - J6480 All-In-One

i can no longer get the scanner to save a scan to a folder or an app (iPhoto, Preview) from within the Acanners and Printers system pref. i have the same problem why using the app Image Capture.
I get this message when i hit the Scan button: This folder is not writable.
i get the scan preview, and it detects the pocture area (dotted outline), but you can't output or save the scans whether you choose the Pictures folder or the Desktop.
the only way i can get any scan to save is from within Preview using the Import From J6400..... on the File pulldown menu. but this method is pretty horrid too. If you already have the HP officeJet 6400 series.app open, the scan won't work. you get an error message saying the scanner is busy. if tou close the scanner app, you can then import and the scan appears on a full window background with the photo outlined with the dotted lines. but there's no photo esiting tools in Preview, so you cant crop the picture. you have to save the raw scan and open iPhoto to do the cropping then saving again. there's no way to scan directly into iPhoto that I can see
this whole process is an abomination. i have no software upates for OS 10.9.5 that havent been installed. the HP officeJet series.app i have is called Printer Proxy v9.4.
any help would be appreciated. this wasn't a really xheap HP prnter/scanner and it's notbthat old. it function fine as a printer, but without the right HP printer software, this whole situation is terrible. HP's direction of how to scan in Mavericks are no longer valid.
Update 10/24/14 - the crop does work in Preview after you hit the Scan button. So at least one method works. Pretty clunky and unintuitive though since the Preinters and Scanners Syst Pref method doesn't work nor does Image Capture.

I upgraded to OS X 10.9.5 and now can't scan using either Photosmart C3180 or C4680.  I've repaired permissions and uninstalled and reinstalled printers in Printers and Scanners preferences.  Scan no longer appears as an option in Printers and Scanners preferences, just print.  Using Preview, "Import from scanner" in File menu is grayed out.  Printing works fine on both printers.  I can't find any updates to printer drivers on Apple Software Update.

  • Acrobat X scan problem

When I try to scan using Acrobat X I get a Windows 7 pop up that says there is a problem and then Acrobat closes. Very frustrating. I use a Samsung printer/scanner and have downloaded drivers for Win 7.

Most scanners interface to other software by a Twain software driver. Older versions of Acrobat required the Twain driver. I am not sure about AA X. In any case, can you access the scanner from some other graphics software on your computer. That may give you an idea if it is a scanner issue or not.

    hi,
Im not able to perform scanning on my Mac with Yosemite and CM1312 connected to wireless router.
Printing works fine but scanning is not possible.
When i press scan button on my printer it shows that there is no destination added and check the user manual
for instructions which i cannot find there.
    thanks for help

    Hi,
I afraid that scanning is no longer supported on Yosemite, the latest full feature software was available for Lion (10.7) and that is not likely to wiork on Yosemite as expected.
You may follow this list from apple as a reference, only printing and faxing is supported for the HP Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP Series:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT3669#HP
Although it is not officially supported, 3rd party software such as VueScan may allow you scanning from Mac OS X 10.10:

downloaded acrobat reader 11 onto my Mac Book Pro, it can open the file but will not print. Get a message that says PDF cannot be printed, however, I forwarded it to someone else and they could print it, no problem. I called HP and spent an 1hour with them and then called Apple support and worked with them for 3 hours. No one can figure it out. Is there something wrong with this version? the pdf was created in 2004. Do I have to pay to get Acrobat?

Let me give you a slightly different perspective than everyone else here.  You are using an unsecured wireless network, which means that all your network traffic is easily available for viewing by anyone else using that network.  That's bad.  Very bad, for you, unless you absolutely trust everyone who lives within range of this network.  So stop doing it.
As to the Mac not connecting, wireless networking is simply too complex for any reasonable answer without more information.  There are many possible error points, and as often as not it's the Mac that can connect and the Windows PC that cannot.  Since you can't give us any information about the configuration of the neighbor's network, and can't make any changes to it, we can't do much to help you troubleshoot it.

  • Acrobat X Scanning Cancelled Problem / WORKAROUND / BUG REPORT

As you have read in other threads, Acrobat X on Windows has a serious scanning problem with HP and possibly other scanners.
Whereas in Acrobat 9 scanning worked reasonably well, Acrobat X seems to be unable to cope with scanning documents from the flat bed of a multifunction scanner.
So, if you are scanning from the feeder, scanning works, but if you are scanning from the flatbed, you will get a brief pause and the phrase SCANNING CANCELLED.
This is, of course, not acceptable.
The problem is that Acrobat X does not play nicely with the scanner drivers.  Previously, Acrobat 9 would "auto-detect" the source of a document, using the feeder if loaded, and "falling back" to the flatbed otherwise.  However, Acrobat X does not fall back.  If there is nothing loaded in the document feeder, the scan will be cancelled by Acrobat X.
The workaround - and I would NOT call this a "solution" - is to use only the "Custom Scan" command from Acrobat X.  When the window pops up, choose the "Options" button and select "Native Mode" and "Show Scanner's Native Interface" from the two menus.  (Acrobat X does seem to remember these settings at least within a session, so if you're scanning multiple documents you only need to do this once.)  Then scan.
You will see a new window pop up - the scanner's "native interface."  On my computer, this window shows up BEHIND the Acrobat X screen (annoyingly) so you have to watch for it and click forward.  Be sure to select "flat bed" from the "document source" menu.  On my computer, this setting is NOT remembered between scans, so you have to do this for EVERY SCAN.  Then, the document will scan, and you can do what you want with it in Acrobat X.
Needless to say, this is a long, painful, slow process, especially if you're scanning lots of flatbed items, as I do.  Hence it's a "workaround" and NOT a "solution".
The SOLUTION will be for Adobe to FIX this.  ADOBE:  THIS IS A BUG REPORT.  PLEASE LOG THIS IN AND FIX IT.  Acrobat 9 with CS5 worked perfectly, as did Acrobat 8 before it.  Moving to CS5.5 with Acrobat X broke this.  Sloppy.  Please fix!  Thank you!
    Glen Barney

I used your workaround (thank you!) but it was very annoying. Although I set up the options for a single multi-page document, Adobe gave me separate files and I had to consolidate them. I also had to fill out the options (color, flatbed vs feeder) for each page. This function was working for me at some point, so I don't know what happened to make my HP Multifunction and Adobe part ways. I hope Adobe comes up with a successful patch for this problem.

  • Scanning problem with HP Photosmart C6180

Since the upgrade to 10.6 my HP C6180 multifunction printer is not working as a scanner from Adobe Acrobat Pro 9
I select from the acrobat menu:
    File
    CreatePDF
    From Scanner
in the "acrobat scan" window Scanner: shows "Please select a device" but there is nothing in the drop down list!
This means that i can not scan a document to PDF from within Adobe Acrobat pro. I can scan through preview but preview does not provide the same features that Acrobat Pro does.
Any Ideas? I have re-installed the adobe software but no joy...

Had scanning problem after uploading Snow Leopard -
    This will fix your problem!
Scanning with the software included in Mac OS X 10.6
New with Snow Leopard, the Scanning interface to these HP Inkjet All-in-One devices is now built into Snow Leopard and supported with the Apple Image Capture application. There are three ways to perform scanning from your HP All-in-One:
    Preview program
    Image Capture program
System Preferences > Print & Fax
Important: After you open the scan interface, it is important to select the correct mode ( Flatbed or Document Feeder ) for the source of the scan image. Your HP All-in-One may have an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) or a flatbed lid. By default, Document Feeder will be the automatically selected Mode for any devices that have an ADF. You must select Flatbed if you want to scan directly from the glass flatbed and not the Document Feeder.
For more information about Scanning and Image Capture, open the Help menu from Mac OS X 10.6 and type in your question.
Method one: Scan from the Preview application
Click the Apple Preview icon in the dock to open the Preview application.
From the Preview File pull-down menu, choose Import from Scanner .
Choose the HP Photosmart, Officejet, or Deskjet All-in-One.
The scan interface opens. Click Show Details to view settings and options.
Method two: Scan from the Image Capture application
In the Applications folder, select and open Image Capture .
In the list of devices on the left, click your HP All-in-One.
Networked devices appear in the Shared list.
The scan interface opens. Click Show Details to view settings and options.
Method three: Scan from Print & Fax > Printer browser
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences .
    Click Print & Fax .
In the list of printers on the left side of the dialog, select the HP All-in-One to view the options in the Print & Fax window.
Click the Scan tab, and then click Open Scanner .
    The Printer Browser window appears.
Click the Scan icon at top right of the toolbar to launch scanning.
The scan interface opens. Click Show Details to view settings and options.
Important Gotcha: If the Scan or Print icons do not appear in the Printer Browser window toolbar, you need to delete the current HP printer queue and add a new one, as follows:
Close the Printer Browser window to return to the Print & Fax preference pane. Or, go directly to the System Preferences > Print & Fax pane.
Select your HP printer in the list on the left.
Click the - sign at the bottom of the list to delete the product from the list.
Click the + sign at the bottom of the list to add the product back to the list.
Select your HP printer, and then click Add to create a new print queue.
The next time you open the Printer Browser window, the Print and Scan icons should appear in the toolbar, providing access to Image Capture.

  • Scanning Problem with Mavericks, CS3, and Dell 2155cn

New MB Pro running Mavericks.  Adobe CS3 loaded.  Acrobat Pro will print to network Dell 2155CN, but will not scan.  Same installation on older MBP running Lion scans from Acrobat with no problem.  Does Mavericks have a problem with the Dell driver?S

Might be the driver. I don't see a Mavericks compatible driver > http://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/dell-2155cn-cdn.html

  • HP 6500 AIO printer scanning problems.

I recently upgraded my Mac OSX software to Snow Leopard. Now the scanner part of my HP printer no longer works. I'VE SCANNED MANY TIMES PREVIOUSLY. I tried to scan today and got messages to the effect, no scanner options, scanner was not connected to the computer, scanner not found, no scanner selected; the scanner is not initialized...
I've done the following: tried to get help from HP- they said as long as my driver sw was up to date (which it is) i should contact Apple.  I  tried to add the scanner - didn't work; setup printer again - didn't work; setup profile for scanner - didn't work; read thru scanner help topics on apple support - didn't help.   What's going on and how do i fix it?
    thx.

It doesn't install a driver version 2.7. It does in fact install for your printer driver 3.1.1. In as much as you already have that driver installed there is some other reason why you are having issues. Contact HP to resolve the scanning problem.
There is third party scanning software which is much better than HP's. Check compatibily with VueScan.

  • HP scan incompatible with Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks)?

A number of people seem to be having scan problems after upgrading to OS X Mavericks.  Me too.
Working with LaserJet Pro 300 color MFP M375 nw.
I want to use HP Scan from my iMac, connected to the LaserJet, to scan from that printer/scanner to my iMac (to thedesktop), as I've done a thousand times.
When I try, the appearance in the HP Scan window is all as usual.  But when I "send to folder," the .jpeg (or .pdf or .tif) that arrives on the desktop is (1) distorted and (2) partial.
NOTE: If I use the 'General Purpose' setting, no distortion - but with that setting I can't get 300 ppi, which is what I want.
I can also get a *sort of* result with the 3D setting.
However, the 'Documents with text' setting - the one I have always used - gives the same distored/chopped result no matter what variations I introduce.
There do not seem to be any software upgrades from Apple.
I can't find anything on the HP site for downloads to deal with the Mavericks OS.
Is something in the works from HP?  How will we know about it?
    Thanks.
    This question was solved.

    Hi Everyone,
There have been numerous reports of an HP Scan incompatibility on Mavericks.  Please be assured that we are looking into this issue and hope to have a resolution soon.
At this time here is what we've observed:
    * On many Macs (not all), images scanned in Black & White or Grayscale will not save properly.  The preview looks fine, but the output will be cropped and distorted.
    * This issue is new for Mavericks.  Previous OS versions are not impacted.
Here are some known workarounds that may help you until this is properly resolved:
    * Use Image Capture to scan.  Image Capture can be found in the Applications folder.  This scanning application does not appear to be affected by the file saving issues.
    * Use the HP Scan Print dialog to save the output to PDF using one of the PDF workflow options.
    * Use the "General Purpose" scanning preset.  This preset scans in color and so output is not affected.
    * Change the settings for the "Documents with Text" preset to scan in full color.   You can also create a new preset based on the "Documents with Text" set for color if you plan to use these settings regularly.  Note that if you are not planning to process the documents for text extraction (OCR) then you can lower the scan resolution to 200 ppi to keep the file sizes more manageable since color scans can be much larger than grayscale or black & white.
I will try to provide more details as they emerge.  Thanks for everyone who has shared observations about their experience and configuration as this continues to be very helpful in tracking down root cause for this issue.

  • Printing/Scanning Problem with HP All-In-One

As you will see, I am a bit confused as to how my Mac is talking to my HP all in one. I am having printing and scanning problems. When I try to print, nothing happens. I go to print status and the print job is there but the printer is not printing. I try pausing, deleting and trying to print again, hold to no avail. It recognizes the job, it just won't print.
Scanning is similar. Most of the time I end up with an error message "The scan cannot be performed because another program has control of the HP imaging device". It directs me to restart the program, close all programs, re-boot the computer. I have done all of these and no go. In addition, no other programs are running at the time.
As far as my computer recognizing the HP, it does in both wifi and bluetooth. I have made it my default printer.
I have a time capsule as a router and everything is set up properly for it. Four bars are shown indicating it is acting properly. Both it and bluetooth are turned on. The HP status lights are on for both wifi and bluetooth.
I have checked with HP and Apple Support and could not find anything that addresses my issue. Please help!!
    Thanks

I had a similar problem awhile back with my HP F2210 all-in-one. I basically re-downloaded all of the software for the printer from HPs site. Before re-installing, I did a safe boot. Then, I reinstalled and restarted and all was well. When software update told me there was a new driver available, I installed it and things still worked. I'm able to print, scan, and all the printer is supposed to do without a hitch.
