Acrobat not rendering characters after inserting pages
Hi,
I have two documents: Document A and Document B. I need to merge the two of them together, or, more specifically, Document B into Document A. Both are PDFs, obviously.
Document B looks just fine when I open it on its own, but the minute I insert it into Document A, random characters stop rendering. In other words, if I open Document B right now the title page says,
Sample Corporations, wholly owned subsidiaries of Parent Corporation; Year Ended December 31, 2007.
If I insert Document B into Document A, or vice-versa, the title page will read,
Sample Corporations, wholl owned subsidiaries of Parent Corporation; Year Ended December , .
The "y" of "wholly," the day, and year have disappeared. There are numerous examples of this throughout the merged document, but only Document B is affected. Sending one of the pages to the printer has the same result -- what doesn't appear on the screen will not appear on the printed page.
I'm using Acrobat 8 pro for Windows on an XP machine.
Has anyone seen this? Any idea what's causing it, and/or how to fix it? Thanks!

As these are official company audit forms, I don't have access to the originals to be able to recreate them, unfortunately.
How do I determine if the document has subset fonts? If that's the case, I might be able to go to our contact in finance & accounting and ask her to recreate them accordingly.

If the tool doesn't support the SQL*Plus syntax (set serveroutput on), it probably has an option somewhere to enable DBMS Output. Not even knowing what tool you're using, it's impossible for us to guess where that option might be configured.
As others have suggested, using DBMS Output to test code is less than ideal because you're dependent on the application you're using to display it to you and not every application can or will do that. If you want to use DBMS_Output, you may need to switch to a different GUI (SQL Developer or SQL*Plus are both free utilities from Oracle). Otherwise, you'd probably be better off having the trigger do something that you can subsequently query (i.e. write a row to a log table).

PanelGrid with binding attribute not rendering when event on page fires
I am having a similar issue with my components not being rendered from a dynamic binding attribute as described by this post:http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=671672 but for different reason. I have combed the forum and other sources for a week now, tried numerous variations of this based on suggestions I've read for rendering dynamic components and am unable to find the problem. I would appreciate guidance as I don't know what else to do and I imagine there is something basic about the JSF flow layout or component classes I am not doing correctly.
From a high level, I have a page with two panel groups. The first contains a list of command links (like a menu) that have an actionlistener that populates a list of QueryVariable objects called filterCriteria in the backing bean based on the selection made and then calls a function to update components in the second panel. The second panelGroup contains a panelGrid with a binding attribute that constructs a dynamic set of input fields based on the content of the filterCriteria list. When I first naviagate to this page from another page, the fields are rendered properly. However, if I then select a commandLink from the menu, the panelGrid disappears and is not rendered.
I've stepped through the code in a debugger and my actionlistener is called when I select a command link. However, the binding attribute method is not called at this time, so I added a direct call to it from the action listener. I know the actionlistener is working because I've verified it in the debugger and if I navigate away and come back to the page, then the binding method is called and the new selection is reflected in a rendered panelGrid. Why is it not rendering though when I first select the commandLink and the page is updated. Also, fyi, there is an action method for the commandlinks but it returns null;
FWIW, I'm using MyFaces and Facelets in my application.

KenGlad to hear I am not the only one struggling with this type of issue.
I tried your suggestion but it caused a NoSuchElementException when the page tried to render. Stepping through the code, the init function is always called after my panelGrid is constructed. I even commented out the logic to clear the children and confirmed that in the constructed page, the outputText component that binds to init is the first element on the page - right after the opening body tag. Maybe, JSF doesn't necessarily construct the page in top to bottom order? Also, the exception makes me think that this gets called too late in the lifecycle to work. Were you able to get this to work?

Translation Not Rendering Characters
So a client asked me to translate a site I made in English,
into Czech. The font is a shared library asset that works perfectly
in the English site. They sent over the Czech content of the site,
and it renders great in the MS XML reader, MS Word and Dreamweaver
(when editing the xml document). When I go to Flash to view the new
content, a lot of the characters are either not rendering at all,
or not rendering the dots and squiggles that should be above some
of the characters.
Do I need another version of the font to Embed in the
translation version of the site?

It is bound to a Dataset which gets it's data from a SQL Database.
Loading the Data and Filtering the data based on certain conditions work 100%. The problem I am having is as follows:
I have a form on the Page that takes input and inserts a row into the Database. When this happens, the DataGrid won't automatically reflect the changes (even if I recall the Fill Method of the Dataset). No matter what I do, I have to refresh the entire page
and THEN Fill the Dataset to see any changes.
This is what strikes me as odd...
When I do a delete row operation on the Database (Custom Method on the Dataset with conditions), and just Fill the Dataset again (without doing anything special), the row deletes and the changes is reflected IMMEDIATELY.
What am I doing wrong here? Why would Delete Row reflect the changes on the DataGrid but no Insert Row?

Component labels not rendering correctly after applying fusion skin

I have been using ADF 11g with blaf-plus-rich skin. Recently I upgraded to 11g R1 Patch Set 1 . I applied the new fusion skin and after that labels on the components are not appearing in the right color. They are appearing in white color as the back ground color of panel box in which they are in.

The label for the LOV is rendering in white color. If I change my template theme to "medium" or "light", the labels
are rendred correctly , but text values in disabled input text appear as white. -
Buttons are not rendering properly after deployment

On one of my pages I've set a couple buttons to render under particular conditions. The buttons are in an af:table. Using the embedded OC4J from JDEV 10.1.3.3.1) they work as intended. When a person enrolls in a course the ENROLL button is no longer rendered and the WITHDRAW button is rendered. Here's the code in the buttons rendered properties:

WITHDRAW - #{row.enrolled && row.deliveryMethodNm == 'Web Based'}
WITHDRAW - #{bindings.setCurrentRowWithKey.enabled} (this is in the DISABLED property)
This was tested after being deployed to OAS 10.1.3. When a user ENROLLS it appears to work but the ENROLL button is still there! An update to the database takes place but the form doesn't pick it up for some reason.
Is there a setting on OAS thats keeping this from working? I've looked but nothing is jumping out at me.
Has anyone experienced this problem or something similar?

Word not recognizing characters after upgrade

After upgrading from Word for Mac 2004-11.6.6- to Word for Mac 2011-14.4.5 I am unable to open some of my files. I get a message the the document might cobtain invalid characters. The invalid character is /. I used it in the title to seperate dates as to when the file was sent, such as 7/04/14, 10/5/14.
I have to drag the file to the old version of Word that thankfully I did not uninstall or I have to manually change the / to a - and then it works fine with the newer version.
I recently went to update to OSX Yosemite and it informed me that the old version of Word would no longer run if I continued. I stopped the update.
My questions are these:
Must I manually change all of the titles first while the old version of Word is still running or can I upgrade the OS and change the files titles as I go later? There are 300-400 of them, some of which I need to keep but may not ever use again.
Is the incompatability just in the titles or if I used a / or \ in the body will it reject those also? If so I will not be able to open them to correct it if I finish the OS upgrade.
Also, I'm aware of the files in this folder that I'm currently speaking of but must I somehow search my computer for any archived Word files and change them also?

The hit counter button does not show up after publishing page.
I insert the hit counter button to a new blog post and when I publish, the button does not show up.
I would really like to use the counter as this is a blog for a class I am teaching, and I would like to track
student viewing.
Also, sometimes the colors do not publish properly, specifically with links/rollover feature.
Help!

Once I posted the question, similar topics came up and what
I did was remove the hit counter, publish the page without the hit counter.
Then inserted the hit counter again and wah-lah!

My new iPhone 5s will not turn on after inserting the SIM card. Help?
I bought my new iPhone 5s from US Cellular and attached it said to insert the SIM card before activation. So I shut the phone off, insert he the SIM, and now it wont turn on. Any help? I have to activate it today and don't want anything to delay it.

I know it has to be frustrating wanting to use your iPhone but cannot turn it on. In this situation I would recommend the steps listed in the attached article.
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

I updated the favicon on a homepage.
I reloaded the page in firefox but the old favicon remains.
I do not want to delete the whole cache of the browser. A page reload should be enough because other users will not delete the cache to get the new favicon.Did you try a reload with a cache bypass?
You can reload the page and bypass the cache with:
* Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
* Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
* Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

If you have bookmarked that site then try to remove all bookmarks (open the bookmarks in tabs, click the yellow star and click the Remove button). Then try to reload all pages and create new bookmarks if that works. You may need to close and restart Firefox. You can also use Forget About This Site in the History right-click context menu but that will remove everything relating to that site, including saved passwords and exceptions. -
Hindi fonts not rendering in html pages
Hindi fonts not rendering in when html pages are run except the mangal and devnagri font.
Is that a bug or a problem which i am not able to tackle.
Mozilla browser shows error in console that (font download failed or The character encoding of the HTML document was not declared. The document will render with garbled text in some browser configurations if the document contains characters from outside the US-ASCII range.

In my Acrobat 8 Pro, Insert Pages is under the Document menu but anyway...
In Acrobat X, click on the Tools pane(upper right side) then navigate to Pages- the Insert Pages commands are located there.

Insert pages from a single document multiple times
I'm trying to create a simple program that I can use to display PDF files that I can use to play at the piano. I perform often, and need to create "play lists" from which I can pull all, or part of, a PDF file containing music and display it.
I have it all working, except for one problem. I may need to "repeat" a section of a piece. I'm building up the play list by calling AcroPDDoc.InsertPages for each item in the play list. If a PDF file appears multiple times in the play list, when I call InsertPages, the call fails.
In this code snippet, pdDoc is the main doc to which I'm adding pages. playList is a generic List of my own PlayList objects, and I need to iterate through all the items in the playList except the first one, which is already loaded.
This code works great unless the fileName I specify has already been opened. The call to AcroPDDoc.Open succeeds just fine, but the call to pdDoc.InsertPages fails if the file has already had pages from it inserted. All other documents work fine. The documentation, of course, doesn't mention this.

The documentation does not state explicitly that you can't insert pages again from a PDDoc you open again and never close.
But it mentions that you get references only from an already opened PDDoc.
"...Opens the specified document. If the document is already open, it returns a reference to the already opened PDDoc. You must call PDDocClose() once for every successful open..."
It doesn't state that you can't insert pages from a referenced PDDoc but it seems so.
I would close the PDDoc within your for-loop after inserting pages and release newDoc.

I have Adobe Pro 9 and I can't insert pages into a PDF created by Adobe Pro 8
I've looked at the other discussions about not being able to insert pages into a PDF, and tried all the suggestions, but to no avail. I think the problem is that the original PDF was created in Adobe 8, and I have Adobe 9. When I open the PDF in Adobe Pro 9, the security screen says that editing is not allowed, and the screen is greyed out so that I can't change the settings. When I open the same PDF in Adobe Pro 8, the security screen says "No Security".
I also checked the "Documents" screen in Edit -> Preferences, and changing the "View Documents in PDF/A" to Never doesn't help.
Does anyone have any suggestions?That would be a question for Adobe support. Firefox does advise users when their Acrobat plugin is out of date, but the actual update is done by Adobe.
