Add Operational Insights to Cloud Service during publish

Hello,
I have several Azure Services that I am already utilizing Application Insights on. What I would like to do is have Operational Insights added during the standard "Publish to Windows Azure" that I use from Visual Studio thereby removing the need
to manually remote into the machine and then install Microsoft Monitoring Agent and configuring my account. Can you point me to some resources demonstrating or explaining how to accomplish this?
A couple of notes:
My group has dozens of services and workers so manual install/configure is not an option for us.
All of our machines currently also have Application Insights setup and running so MMA already has a tab for Application Insights that displays if you open MMA however, there is no tab available in MMA for Operational Insights. The only way that I can add
this tab is to uninstall and then re-install using the installer found on the Operational Insights site however, doing so removes Application Insights.
Thanks!

We are working on a VM Extension to push the agent into IaaS VMs from Azure Portal as a first class experience.
The community has also come up with a DSC resource already anyway!
http://www.powershellmagazine.com/2014/11/26/dsc-resource-module-for-microsoft-monitoring-agent-install-and-configuration-for-azure-operational-insights/
For Cloud Services, we don't need/use the agent but support them already by pulling their logs from WAD - if the roles are configured to write to WAD (the usual way) we'll pick Windows Events and IIS logs (at the moment) - more data sources ideas pls see
this category on the feedback forum
http://feedback.azure.com/forums/267889-azure-operational-insights/category/88086-log-management-and-log-collection-policy
We think a lot of the other scenarios/IP's don't make sense for PaaS:
- System Updates: since PaaS roles are auto-updated
- AntiMalware: we are investigating how to support Anti Malware scenario using logs - read the comment from Richard on this thread for queries using Windows Events you can do today for that scenario
http://feedback.azure.com/forums/267889-azure-operational-insights/suggestions/6519202-support-other-antivirus-products-in-malware-assess#comments
- Capacity is currently only focused on HyperV (private cloud) but we'll be able to support 'performance' type information thru WAD again
http://feedback.azure.com/forums/267889-azure-operational-insights/suggestions/6662146-open-up-the-capacity-management-pack-for-other-sys so no agent needed either...
- SQL Assessment: you don't install SQL in Cloud Services roles; you do in IaaS VMs.
and so on...
The agent for AppInsights and OpInsights at the moment are not compatible - see this
http://feedback.azure.com/forums/267889-azure-operational-insights/suggestions/6660334-it-s-good-if-we-have-single-mma-file-for-appinsigh but again, you use Appinsights agent in your Web Roles, and you use OpInsights agent in your VMs, and for the
web roles you get the info into OpInsights from WAD. that is the most common use case.

  • Unable to add reserved IP to cloud service / VM

    Hi
I have a "Visual Studio Premium with MSDN" subscription.
In order to perform some application testing I need a VM with a fixed/reserved public IP.
I have set up a cloud service assigned to a VM with Windows Server 2012, and I also have set up a reserved IP.
Now, when I try to link the reserved IP with the cloud service I get an error:

The command I used in Azure PowerShell was:
    Set-AzureReservedIPAssociation -ReservedIPName myresip1 -ServiceName testserver1
What is this vipmobility? Why am I getting this error?

    Hi,
Reserved IP is associated with a Cloud Service.
Reserved IP allows you to reserve Virtual IP address in Azure, which you can then associate to a new cloud service. The Reserved IP address is sticky, meaning once it’s associated with the cloud service, it won’t change unless you decide to disassociate
it. In a Virtual Machine scenario, the Reserved IP address will remain associated with your cloud service even when all the VMs in the cloud service are stop/deallocated. At this time, you can’t reserve an IP address for a cloud service that you have already
    created.
However if you want to retain the DIP of the VM, you can use Static DIP.
A static DIP stays with the VM even through a stop/deprovision state. You can specify a static DIP by using PowerShell at the time you create the VM, or you can update an existing VM. However it is required that the VM is a part of Azure VNET.
To know more about setting up a Static IP and other operations that can be performed on a VM, you might want to refer to the below link

  • Office 2013 - How to Add Dropbox as a Cloud Service

Office 2013 has a great new feature where cloud storage services can register as a place within the open/save menu, and within the user's account. While we wait for Dropbox to officially support this, I have a workaround for those people using Office 2013
who need to see the Dropbox icon beside SkyDrive.
The script that you can download and run is here:
    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46565/dropbox_service_add.bat
It modifies the registry based on Microsoft's document, "Integrating additional cloud storage services in Office 2013" found at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35474
I've only tested this on Windows 8, so if somebody on Windows 7 can let me know how it works that would be fantastic.
The thread where I'll be posting any updates or changes is:
    https://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=93098
    Cheers,
    -Philip

Great thing to have, but executing batch files is not secure.
Try to install new for Microsoft Office that embeds Dropbox integration into it in the same way but has nice and simple installer.
There is one more killing feature currently. Our plugin allows to load and review change history of the document right from Microsoft Word and Excel.
Give it a try at http://www.codocuments.com

  • Unable to connect to VM's in new cloud service via express route

We have changed our express route setup, initially we had an express route via London, but we have added a second one via Amsterdam and removed the one via London. All existing and new vm's in the different vnet's have connection to our local datacenter,
but as soon as we create vm's in a new cloud service the published routes don't seem to be picked up and the machine are only reachable in their local vnet on azure.
Does anyone have an idea where to look, it looks like the route publishing does not seem to work correctly, but it is strange that new vm's in existing cloud service do work correctly. BGP peering and vnet have been provided access via the expressroute and
    all have status provisioned.

    Hi Syed,
When I try to connect to a new vm via rdp or try to do a tracert to the machine (with firewall turned off on the vm) I don't get a response (traffic is routed via the express-route correctly). If I do a tracert to an ip on the on premise network
from the vm in question the trace is directed to internet instead of to the on premise network via the express route.
the new cloud services were created in the same region as the working cloud services and the vm's are also in the same vnet/subnet as the working vm's. If I delete a vm (keeping the disks) from a new cloud service and redeployed it in an existing cloud service
I can reach it again via the internal ip.
We have checked the route publishing and the correct routes are published to the express route/vnet.
When I check the provisioning of the vnet's via get-azurededicatedcircuitlink all the vnet's in question are listed as provisioned.
I'll try to remove the bpgrouting for the original expressroute this evening to see if that helps.
    kind regards
    Xander

  • WCF Service hosted in Azure Cloud Service errors after published

I have a project with several WCF services (mix of REST and SOAP).  The project has been running On-Prem for 6 months without an issue.  We are moving this to Azure but have run into an issue that will prevent us from going live.
The project uses Autofac for it's IOC.  We are gonig to host this in a Cloud Service in Azure.  Everything appears to work correctly when running locally in the Azure Emulator however once we deploy using the Cloud Service project, everything builds
and deploys correctly, but we receive the following error when trying to access a service.

    RouteTable.Routes.Add(new ServiceRoute("Event/Calendar", new AutofacWebServiceHostFactory(), typeof(CalendarSvc)));
All of this works fine in IIS and the local Azure emulator, but once deployed to the cloud service is where we get an issue.

I don't know Autofac. What is it doing? If you use a normal WCF REST service, or ASP.NET Web API, do you see the same issue? If it does work, you may want to post a question on Autofac's forum:
    https://github.com/autofac/Autofac/issues.

  • Can't publish to Azure Cloud Service from Visual Studio 2013

I have a VS project that I upgraded from VS 2012 to VS 2013. I can run it locally, and had no issues publishing to Azure when I was using VS 2012. When I attempt to publish the upgraded app to an Azure Cloud Service that already exists, I am getting this
error.  Note that I have checked the Service Config files and did a search on the entire solution and can not find any reference to "LocalStorage1" anywhere in the Project or Solution. I have another VS 20113 Project that publishes just fine
to Azure Cloud Service. Any ideas on how to fix this?
    PUBLISH ERROR:
Windows Azure could not find the resource LocalStorage1 in the service package. To upgrade the deployment, you must add the resource. Otherwise, perform a new deployment.

That's actually what I meant in my first post. When publishing to a new service, it is fine, because the deployment does not have to compare what is already there (it is a new service, so nothing is there) and what is in your package. But while upgrading
a service, bunch of settings have to match between an existing service and the package you are trying to upload. So the error you got wasn't about you having something extra in your package, but having something extra in your existing service and missing in
the package you were uploading. Hope that helps.
Anyway, please move this question to cloud services forums (this one is for web sites only), as there are experts in that area and they might be able to help you better.
    Thanks,
    Petr

  • Problem to publish my azure cloud service

    Hello,
my goal is to deploy an exe on a web service then create a http client (c++) that uses that service. First I began with this tutorial
http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/cloud-services-dotnet-get-started/ then I use this one to run my exe in the worker role
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/331425/Running-an-EXE-in-a-WebRole-on-Windows-Azure.
I was able to run my app on localhost. The worker role excecute the .exe I deployed and the output of my exe are settled in document folder. The problem is when I publish my app, the exe do not work!!!
    any suggestions please?
    thanks.

    Hi sir,
    Thanks for your post.
    Something need to confirm:
1.Did you add some library into your project?
Non .NET EXE : C, C++, etc. If CPP EXE we need to add CPP runtime libraries like
    msvcp100.dll, msvcr100.dll.
2.Did you try to debug your project on cloud service?
You could debug your cloud service on your local, please refer to this tutorials(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/ff683670.aspx ). I think you could share error information
via debug your project for the future support.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Will

  • Publish cloud service fails from Visual Studio 2013 Update 4: Published Asset Entry for Image Microsoft.Azure.Diagnostics_PaaSDiagnostics_europeall_manifest.xml not found.

I have a cloud service project with two roles (service and worker). In Visual Studio 2013 Update 4 when I choose "Publish..." from the "Solution Explorer",  it opens "Microsoft Azure Activity Log" and quickly terminates.
    Here the log:
9:43:47 AM - Applying Diagnostics extension.
9:44:09 AM - Published Asset Entry for Image Microsoft.Azure.Diagnostics_PaaSDiagnostics_europeall_manifest.xml not found.
All works fine when uploading the package and updating from https://manage.windowsazure.com/. It only fails from within Visual Studio.
What can I do to get it working?

I have the same problem with our Azure project. Two web roles (service and worker). Just updated from SDK2.2 to SDK2.5 and Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 to Update 4. The main reason behind this was to move from log4net to WAD and in doing so, of course directly
move to the new diagnostics version.
Now, I get the same error message in Visual Studio:
11:45:24 - Checking for Remote Desktop certificate...
    11:45:25 - Applying Diagnostics extension.
11:45:45 - Published Asset Entry for Image Microsoft.Azure.Diagnostics_PaaSDiagnostics_europeall_manifest.xml not found.
With my small testing project - also two roles (service and worker) - everything is fine. However, I'm looking for a solution to make by existing production service working.
Also the test project shows no Microsoft.Azure.Diagnostics_PaaSDiagnostics_europeall_manifest.xml,
but this is no problem - so what's the meaning of or solution to this error messages?
    What I found so far:
I deployed the Azure project from the same development environment to another Azure test service: Deployment
showed no errors and the service is running fine! So the problem is not with the source, the development environment, library dependencies etc.
Trying Azure cmdlets for PowerShell also work fine for the new service and fails for the production service with almost the same error message:
    Following http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kwill/archive/2014/12/02/windows-azure-diagnostics-upgrading-from-azure-sdk-2-4-to-azure-sdk-2-5.aspx
    I tried:
    PS C:\> Set-AzureServiceDiagnosticsExtension -StorageContext $storageContext -DiagnosticsConfigurationPath $public_config -ServiceName $service_name -Slot 'Staging' -Role $role_name
VERBOSE: Setting PaaSDiagnostics configuration for MyWebRole.
Set-AzureServiceDiagnosticsExtension : BadRequest : Published Asset Entry for Image

The problem seems to be related to those service configuration parts in the cloud which are not replaced
by a new deployment... So what are possible reasons or fixes for this behaviour?

  • No Cloud Services when signing into Microsoft Azure Publish

When signing into Microsoft Azure Publish in Visual Studio 2013 (right click Cloud Project -> "Publish..."), none of my cloud services are appearing.
This has previously always been working for me.
Signing in using my Windows Live account (I am a "co-administrator"):
When opening the publish window, I get this popup asking me to create a new service!
Because as you can see, I now have no services:
I have no idea what has happened. Can anyone help?
I also tried signing in with the portal Administrator credentials - same problem!
I posted this same question on stackoverflow:  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27544319/no-cloud-services-when-signing-into-microsoft-azure-publish

    Hi,
I have tested the same in my lab environment and I am able to find the list of cloud services.
Suggest you to try the below
Sign Out of your subscription by going to Publish > Manage > Sign Out
Re open Visual Studio by choosing Run as an Administrator and Sign In with your subscription and check if you are now able to find all the cloud services in your subscription
    Looking forward for your reply.

  • Only administrators have permission to add, remove, or configure server software during a terminal service remote session.

    Hello
I have been trying to install Office 2010 Pro Plus onto a Server 2003 Terminal Services server. We have an OVS license and I have followed all the procedures (and variations) noted in
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff506201.aspx . However, we still get the error message 'Only administrators have permission to add, remove, or configure server software
during a terminal service remote session.' when users logon via an RDP session. If they logon locally, the applications start without problem. I have tried the manual and .msp setup, installed via the 'Add\Remove Programs, install using the command line with
'Change User /install' and then 'Change User /execute'. None of this stops the message and allows the users to use Office via TS.
Is there a step missing from the Technet site that I need to get the users working?
Any ideas would be really appreciated.
    Thank you

This has not fixed my issue. I still get the message "Only administrators have permission to add, remove, or configure server software during a terminal service remote session". If I add the user into the local admins group. When I login as the
user in question or any user onto the server in question the message above appears.
When I run Lync from the shortcut on the remote drive it works. But when I run it from the desktop and start menu it displays the above error. I spoke to Ctrix who have said that it is a permissions issue. I have checked and all permissions seem to be the
    same.
    Please can you help?

  • Is it possible to use both an ILB and an ELB (listening on the same port) in the same Azure cloud service?

I'm building a test Lync deployment on Azure; yes, I know this is not supported, hence "test".
Lync Front-End servers expose two set of web services, one for internal users and one for external ones; they listen on different ports (443 and 4443) on the same servers; when external services are published, you need a reverse proxy or a port forwarding
in order to map port 443 of a public IP address to port 4443 of the Front-End server(s). When you have multiple Front-End servers in a pool, you also need to load-balance them.
So, a typical Lync deployment looks like this:
           Internal users
                     |
                   443
                      |
              Internal LB
            192.168.0.20
            443         443
              |               |
Lync FE 1     Lync FE 2
    192.168.0.21 192.168.0.22
              |               |
          4443        4443
              External LB
           Public IP Address
                     |
                  443
                     |
           External Users
This should be easily replicated in Azure, as it supports both external load balancing and internal load balancing. They are even supported together in the same cloud service, so this configuration should be easy. However, it looks like "should"
    is the keyword here.
After creating the external load balanced endpoint (which listens on external port 443 and forwards to port 4443 on the servers), I'm trying to create an internal load balancer and add internal endpoints to is; however, while the ILB can be created successfully,
adding an internal endpoint listening on port 443 and forwarding to port 443 on the servers fails miserably, with an error stating that port 443 is already in use by another endpoint:
Update-AzureVM : BadRequest : Port 443 is already in use by one of the endpoints in this deployment. Ensure that the port numbers are unique across endpoints within a deployment.
    For reference, my commands are:
Add-AzureInternalLoadBalancer -InternalLoadBalancerName "LyncILB" -ServiceName "LyncFrontEnd" -SubnetName "LabSubnet" -StaticVNetIPAddress 192.168.0.20
    (This completes successfully)
    Get-AzureVM LYNCFE1 | Add-AzureEndpoint -Name "Https-Int" -Protocol "tcp" -LocalPort 443 -PublicPort 443 -LBSetName "HttpsIntLB" -DefaultProbe -InternalLoadBalancerName "LyncILB"
    (This fails)
The existing external endpoint is configured as such:
    Get-AzureVM LYNCFE1 | get-azureendpoint
    LBSetName : HttpsExtLB
    LocalPort : 4443
    Name : HTTPS-Ext
    Port : 443
    Protocol : tcp
    Vip :
    ProbePath :
    ProbePort : 4443
    ProbeProtocol : tcp
    ProbeIntervalInSeconds : 15
    ProbeTimeoutInSeconds : 31
    EnableDirectServerReturn : False
    Acl : {}
    InternalLoadBalancerName :
    IdleTimeoutInMinutes :
    LoadBalancerDistribution :
The error doesn't even make a lot of sense; the external load balancer listens on a public IP address, while the internal load balancer listens on a private IP address in the internal network; there
shouldn't be any conflict here... however it looks like there is one instead.
Why doesn't this work? Am I doing something wrong, or is Azure networking just being silly as usual again?

    Hello Massimo Pascucci,
The issue that you are facing when creating an endpoint with internal loadbalancer is the limitation of not allowing same ports to be listening under a single cloud service. This reason for this is that there is a limitation of only one private IP (Also
known as the Internal load balanced IP) per cloud service.
There is also a limitation on the Internal load balancer more than one port to be published per load balancer:
