iostat -En shows it as 2 461gb drives, not a problem really as long as i can mount them

How do i get solaris to mount it, i've tried devfsadm, i've tried mount /dev/dsk/c4t0d0s2 without any joy.

I found out that zfs is the perfect solution for that scenario. I have lacie 1TB drive and I could get ufs to work but the drive only showed up about ~500g and not 1tb, similar situation as yours. I tried all the possible way that I could think of and found out that zfs is way better and easier.
Try format -e and see if it comes out as single disk or still multiple disks..
And check on the following site for more configuration on zpool and zfs and also look for solaris 10 docs.

Hope you got your problem solved.

  • 1TB USB Disk with NTFS

I have AE with FirmWare version -- 7.5.1
and have Toshiba Ext HDD (USB) formatted with NTFS.
This Disk is connected to AEBS and it shows on AirPort Utility "Disk" Tab screen.
However I have NOT been able to see or connect this disk to any of my Windows 7 computer.
I have read lots of old posts saying that NTFS will not work.
Is it still true (with AEBS FirmWare ver: 7.5.1) or am I missing some configuration.
I have tried tweaking "Local Security" etc, but no luck.
Just wanted to re-confirm that, AEBS and NTFS combo will NOT work?

So, is there any way to get a PC to connect wirelessly to a hard drive connected to the USB port of an AEBS or Time Capsule?
The Airport Utility on the PC sees the external hard drive, but I am not able to get the backup software, or Windows XP, to connect to that drive.

  • Persistent Lock Icon on AE USB Disk

Hi. I have a 1TB USB disk hanging off of my Airport Extreme. At some point recently, it decided to lock itself and become non-writable. I've mucked around in Terminal and tried Super Get Info, and in both places it shows the volume as being owned by me (777 UNIX permissions). I've gotten to the point where I can copy files into the existing folders on it, but not directly to the volume (e.g., I can't copy a folder onto its "desktop.").
Am I just doing something immensely stupid, or missing something really easy? I'm pretty frustrated; a network disk you can't write to isn't really worth very much.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    run the following terminal command
    sudo chflags 0 /Volumes/*
you'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see). that's normal.

  • Error in Time Machine configuration with two usb disks??

    Hi all,
I applied two 1TB usb disks to my Mac Mini with OSX 10.9 server (latest version) and configured them within the Server.app for time machine. As far as I understood, there should only be 1 backup destination 'backups' presented to my mac clients afterwards. But I always see 'backups' and 'backups-1', meaning both usb drives. Did I misunderstand the manual or is there something wrong with my Server.app?
Thank you for your help and best regards, BanditCH

    Hi Wolfgang,
That just won't work. You can get a bigger external drive of 3TB for instance, that will work as one destination.
For this to work with 2 drives: every client needs to choose between two destinations, because both drives appear as a unique destination in TimeMachineServer. There's no way around it.
To be futureproof consider a dedicated NAS with 2 or more disks that supports timemachine so your capacity can grow when there are new bigger drives available. With 2 drives in a RAID mirror inside a NAS you have the best of both worlds. Client backup on a RAID mirror, when one drive fails it does not affect the entire backup. Connected to that NAS you can use an external USB disk for backup. Wonderful
    Goodluck

  • How to install Solaris 9 8/20 x86 on an Ext. USB Disk

I am fairly new to Solaris. Does anyone know know to do an install to a completely separate ext. USB hard disk?
I think that it can be done since I can get through the initial installation CD with the partitions, slices, and MBR being created and the files copied over. However, when it comes time to reboot and continue, the CDA starts up from USB disk and lists 2 devices to boot -- CD & DISK. This is the problem, it keeps trying to load up from the IDE-PCI controller instead of the USB Disk. It has no problems loading from or booting up the CD.
BTW, this is running on a Dell Inspiron 5100 with the primary disk holding Windows XP. There is no extra room left on it. That's why I'm using the ext. usb disk.

Hm. I have a question. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 8600 and tried to install to my ext. USB drive for the same reason. Unfortunately, I couldn't even get as far as you. I got to the step where I choose the destination drive and my external was not listed. Do you know why that would be or how I would be able to install to my external drive?

  • Folders added to USB disk connected to EA6700 not seen by Panasonic TV

    Hello,
    I have a Seagate 1.5TB USB ST315005EXA101-RK connected to EA6700.
The USB disk contains two folders with pictures, and they are fully visible in the Panasonic TV.
Today I added some other folders to the USB disk, but they are not seen in the Panasonic TV.
Shall I remove .tmp & cache folders in the USB disk in order to let EA6700 show all folders in the TV ?

Sorry for not replying to this forum earlier. I have been busy with other tasks.
I disconnected the USB disk from EA6700, and connected it to my PC.
Then I removed .tmp and cache folders, and connected the disk back to EA6700.
Now I see all pictures on TV,
The lesson from this problem is to reconnect the disk to PC and remove .tmp & cache folders.

  • Adding USB disk

I am having trouble getting my 802.11n AEBS to recognize my USB disk drive. I am using a Buffalo Drive Station which I have formatted as HFS+. I will almost never see the drive when I first power it on without restarting the AEBS. Even then it only sees it some of the time. When it does see it, the data transfers to it are so slow as to be unuseable (sometimes as slow a 100kBps or less). I noticed that Apple posted a page saying the AEBS only supports USB drives with a block size of 512 bytes. Does anyone know how to tell what the block size is? I can't find it in any of the documentation. Could this be why I am having trouble with this disk drive?

I have a similar problem, so maybe this can get answered at the same time.
I hooked up my Maxtor 1TB in Fat 32 and it won't work. I can see the drive, but the files are not accessable. For instance, when I click on my iTunes folder on that drive, it starts to list the files, then after a second, goes blank and at the bottom says "0 items, 41GB available".
I hooked up my Lacie 500GB supposedly in "AppleShare" or "Windows Sharing" or "SMB/CIFS" (are these drive formats?!?) and this drive works beautifully.
Do I have a) too many files? Or b) AEx has limited/no Fat 32 capability? Or c) something I'm overlooking?
Also, since my 1TB drive is packed, I'd have to buy another one to reformat!!!

  • Cannot  mount USB disk in SIngle-user mode (solaris 10)

    Hi all ,
I need some help please :
I can read/write to my USB disks when i'm in muti-user mode but when to I swith to single-user mode ( init S ), I cannot mount it.
in Single-user mode , i started volume management daemon :
    #/etc/init.d/volgmt start
    #volcheck
but i'm still not able to mount it.
    I tried to mount manually:
    #mount /dev/dsk/c2t0d0p0 /testpoint , i have this error: < mount : not a UFS magic number ( 0x0) , dev/dsk/c2t0d0p0 is not of this fstype.
My system recognizes the USB device though in single-user mode:

    Hi ,
thanks for your advice. My problem is resolved.
The USB drive was actually a FAT filesystem.
so I did # mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c2t0d0p0:c /testpoint and everything went fine
I can read/write to my USB disks when i'm in

in Single-user mode , i started volume management

    first.
    I tried to mount manually:

Looks like it's assuming UFS. If this is a pcfs
filesystem, give it the type on the mount line.
    # mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c2t0d0p0 /testpointYeah, this was the right command, I had to specify option < -F pcfs >.
but I read somethere on this forum i had to specify :c as the drive for FAT at the end of c2t0d0p0 , so the full command was:
    # mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c2t0d0p0:c /testpoint

  • My Book 3.0 (1TB, USB 3.0) detection problem with Envy Phoenix 810-135qe

I have  a My Book 3.0 (1TB, USB 3.0)... The older My Book not the newer one... "My Book Essential" or something like that.
I was using it with W7 x64 backup utility on an older HP desktop (HP Pavilion a6560t) without issue up to the day my new HP Envy 810-135qe arrived. I downloaded the latest drivers from WD support, and the thing PnPed fine off the non-powered USB 3.0 on the back of the 810. However, the 810 drops connection after sleep, hibernation, lock, or simply just over time. I've run diagnostics on the WD and the cables, all checked out fine. I tried shutting off power saving to the USB 3.0s in device manager (just a guess), and that seemed to work for a few weeks, however I'm still having the detection issue periodically. All of my drivers are up to date on the HP side. I'm fully reformatting the WD now to see if that might somehow fix the issue (I'll update in a few days on how that worked out).
Anyone have any idea what's amiss? I suspect something with the BIOS. HP chat support has been no help (they go through the same checks I've already done myself) and they got really spooky on another chat when I asked about adding a SSD as the boot drive (I knew it was an issue from here and other forums).... Handed me off to second tier support, and all they would tell me is that they couldn't tell me anything... Basically, no support for any config except for how it was shipped because it's a "custom build" (yes, buyer's regret big time).
Secondly, anyone running a similar config with a en external back up that's running smoothly? My WD is getting old so I was thinking of one of the newer portable USB 3.0 HDDs (both 2.5 and 3.5). My specs follow.

I have the exact computer (See my signature below.).  I have installed a Samsung EVO 840 500 GB SSD.  It works absolutely great.  Samsung SSD's seem to be the only brand that boots without changing any settings in the UEFI Firmware.  If you decide to buy one, I will be glad to walk you through the installation process.
I also have a "WD My Book Essentials" 2 GB external hard drive.  It works perfectly without making any changes to the BIOS.

  • LaCie 1TB Big Disk not mounting as a shared device

    Hi!
Today, I purchased a brand new AirPort Extreme 802.11n to replace my now dead NetGear WGR614. The set-up went well, but I have a query.
I also own a LaCie 1TB Big Disk connected to the AEBS via ethernet as a NAS Drive. The disk itself is set-up with Apple File Server and Bonjour Services enabled. With my NetGear WGR614, the hard drive would automatically appear in the Shared Devices column in Finder. The only way I have been able to achieve this same outcome is to log into the drive using Command-K and then adding it to the Login Items in the Accounts Preference Pane. This is so it will automatically appear connected in the Shared Devices column after a restart.
I have spent the morning searching many and varied forums for a solution, but almost all entries deal with USB connected drives.
If anyone has some information they would like to share, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Rodger.

The main error in this position is thinking ANY sized SSD can be "storage"
Any Macbook SSD should be idealized as a working platform computer system, containing all your applications, documents, and weekly-use necessary files; and all media files such as ‘big-data’ (music/PDF collections/video/pictures), unless directly needed in the near future, should be kept off the computer and on external storage USB or likewise bare hard drives.
You cant do what you want without removing the internal SSD
Officially, it is not possible for an end user to upgrade the storage in any Retina Display MacBook Pro model after purchase

  • USB disk access of every type is hosed - HELP!?

Newbie with the very latest "Don't Panic" running on a laptop.  I'm coming off a year with various bloateddistros, looking for something fast and stable.
I've got my internal drive up, networking, x, gnome and openoffice all working great.  Next step is to plug in my external 160gig drive with all my data on it.  This is a very standard USB2-to-EIDE drive, I've had no problems with it in any distro.  It's split between a 32gig FAT32 partition and a 119gig Ext3.
I followed the wiki on autofs.  Nothing.  Then played with HAL and the like.  Made my user a member of group "storage".  Still nothing.
I've seen mount problems before of course, so I tried adding gparted via pacman and running that from a root command line just to see what's physically out there.  Not good: gparted never finishes getting past the "Scanning all devices....." process with the blue bar bouncing back and forth.  When gparted first starts I can hear the external disk spin up and chug for a few seconds, but then nothing.
I tried a 1gig USB flash critter (probably Fat32), nothing there either.  I think something is fundamentally hosed in my USB disk support.  I do have a USB external trackball working though...so my ports are up.
    My daemons at present:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond ntpd hal cups gdm alunnd)
    Heeeelp!  Neeeed my daaaata!
Wait, something else weird: if I turn on the external disk I see some CPU activity on my gnome panel monitor.  Nothing major, a few light spikes.  I've got a Celeron 1.6 but with the new 533 memory bus and 2gigs RAM.  Once I run gparted it goes bananas and then once I close gparted CPU activity is pegged hard at 100% - yet there's no listed process eating that.  Then when I turn off the external drive, CPU activity falls back to normal.
    WTF, over?
    Jim

Well before reading Veek's post I got further along.  Almost there I think.
I went and loaded XFCE4 plus extras, and logged in with a XFCE session.  I like having a backup desktop environment anyways in case Gnome gets squirrelly.
In XFCE Thunar shows the disks, but when I try and access 'em I get:
    Failed to mount "128G Volume".
    (exo-mount:4613): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
        Using the fallback 'C' locale.
You are not privileged to mount the volume "128G Volume".
What I can't figure out is, what permissions?  I'm added to groups "storage" and "disks"...any more needed?

  • Can I watch iTunes-purchased movies from an Airport Extreme USB disk?

With the newest Airport firmware (7.6.1), it seems I should be able to do this.
My scenario is so basic, I can't understand why I'm having trouble achieving this.
    - I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.2 - since it's a laptop, I don't want to leave it on all the time.
    - I have an AirPort Extreme with a USB disk on it (that I use for backing up my MacBook), recently upgraded to newest firmware 7.6.1.
    - I have a recently purchased Apple TV hard-wired to the AirPort running firmware 4.4.4.
    - I have purchased movies though iTunes on the MacBook Pro.
I want to watch my iTunes-purchased movies on my Apple TV even when my MacBook Pro is sleeping. That is, I would like the movies to be accessible via iCloud, or stored on the USB disk connected to AirPort Extreme, or something/anything.
It seems obvious to me that with an all-Apple set up, and iCloud, this should be easy to achieve.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    j

Really? I need to check that out!
You should certainly be able to add content by reference to itunes from such a disk (even before the update) - so long as itunes knows the location of the file (set Preferences not to copy to local library when adding the media) it will stream it to AppleTV if the disk is available.
I hope you're right, but I'd be surprised if current Extremes can be upgarded to provide a full Home Sharing service - marvellous if they can but I'd be surprised as i've long said we need an Apple media server either based on TC or AE to do this kind of thing.
