ADF Query wildcard search

Hi Experts,
i have a requirement in ADF search panel should allow wildcard search.
i would like to know is it OOTB or how can we achieve this?
appreciate your help
Thanks,
KT

You should crate a view criteria which holds all attributes and set the search criteria like 'start with' which generate wildcard search. Set each attribute to 'ignore null values' to allow searches where the attribute its not set.
Then you use this view criteria and drag it on the page and drop it on the page as query.

• ADF query panel searching string characters

I have a field in the database as clientid which is of the type varchar2. This field is exposed as a field in the query panel in the front end.
The problem is that the client wants the search option "between" (found in the advanced option of the query pane) to work like a number.
That is if the client searches for a value between 5 and 7 , it should not return values such as 51,52,5232 etc . (which is actually the correct behaviour for varchar fields)
But the client does not want the field to be changed to number instead of varchar2 (since he wants to enter alphabet characters in the future as well).
So is there a way to make the search functionality to work like numbers instead of characters for the field clientid.

Hi,
just a guess, but maybe worth trying a custom domain for the attribute. If you can "translate" String to Number and Number to String on the fly then the filter should work fine

• Adf:Query - Saved Search issue

Hi all,
Using Jdev 11g. R1(Version 11.1.1.7.0) , I am getting the following error on returning to my UI's Advanced Search page after I add a field from 'Add Field" button and save it as a default search.
*"Would you like to save the changes you made to the layout before proceeding?"*
Any suggestion for debugging this issue.
Thanks in advance..

I believe you are encountering a usability issue. When you receive, "Would you like to save the changes you made to the layout before proceeding?", it is question not an error. You added a field and must have changed something in the results table (added a column, reordered column), and it is asking if you want to save the changes to the results layout table with your saved search. I think that may be what is going on here. I am not sure if you can disable this question, but you may be able to change the message itself to be worded differently.

• How to use ADF Query search with EJB 3.0

Hi,
In ADF guide http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/web.1111/b31974/web_search_bc.htm#CIHIJABA
The steps to create query search with ADF Business Components says:
"+From the Data Controls panel, select the data collection and expand the Named Criteria node to display a list of named view criteria.+"
But with EJB, I'm not able to find Named Criteria node. Can we use ADF query search component with EJB? If yes, can you please show me some example, tutorial etc.?
Thanks
BJ

For EJBs you'll need to implement the query model on your own.
An example of how the model should look like is in the ADF Faces components demo.

• ADF Query not showing correct search results.

Hi,
I am using normal ADF af:query to search data using a VO Criteria.
We have modified the getter of searched column in VORowImpl java class to return values based on NLSID search from cache.
Logic in getter:
If for a column_name nlsid is present then show data as the value of nlsid.
Suppose Initially:
column_name = "Column1"
column_name_nlsid="Column1_nlsid"
column_name_nlsid_value="Column1_nlsid_value"
The table will show:
column_name: "Column1_nlsid_value"
if we search "Column1" as column_name, The Search will also show:
column_name: "Column1_nlsid_value"
in results
But,
If we modify the nlsid value as:
column_name_nlsid_value="Column1_nlsid_value_MODIFIED"
Then
The table will show:
column_name: "Column1_nlsid_value_MODIFIED"
if we search "MODIFIED" in column_name, The Search will NOT show any results
So, it seems to me that the af:query search always searches upon the values derived from InternalAttribute values.
What can i do to over-ride such behaviour , so that the search also takes the data from modified getters.

• ADF query panel with table, adding new search fields dynamically

I am a beginner very new to ADF world. I have a ADF query panel with table which has its source from a ViewCriteria. I need to add a new search field on the form dynamically based on the user's need. Assume I am using a Employee table and I have search "employee ID" as one field in the form, upon clicking a add button in the form I need to have a another "employee ID" field appears along with the already existing one.
I tried to add the condition in ViewCriteria but do not know how to add it ?
Could some one pls address how it can be approached ?

User, please always tell us your jdev version.
Well, this use case need some thinking to be done. What do you want to archive with adding a new query field to the panel? As you said you already have one field for employeeId and now, on a click on a button, you add another one. How would the resulting query work with the new field? Should it use 'and' to concatenate the query or should it use 'or'?
I suggest that you use the ADF Riche Client Demo (http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/faces/index.jspx) select the Query node and then select 'af:query'. This shows you what is possible otu of hte box using the af:query component. You can add fields to existing queries in advanced mode (e.g. use system query 5, which starts with an empty panel and allows you to add fields).
Once you understand how this works you may come back with a more detailed use case description or you have found the solution already. Read the documentation on af:query along with trying otu the component.

• ADF Query Search

What kind of query search is implemented in ADF Query components(ADF Query, ADF Query with Table) ?

The query component provides the user the ability to perform a query based on a saved search or personalize saved searches. The component displays a search panel with various elements, each of which help the user to accomplish various tasks.
Elements rendered by the query component
Search Panel: the panel that encloses all elements rendered by the query component
Search Header: Spans the entire width of the search panel and used to display a disclosure icon, the label, search mode (toggle button) and saved search (choice list of saved searches). The help (deprecated), info and toolbar facets' content is also displayed in the header.
Match Type: A radio button group that appears below the search header, it defines whether the search criteria should be treated as an AND search or an OR search. For details on the conjunction operators refer to the QueryDescriptor and ConjunctionCriterion classes.
Criteria region: A form layout that appears below the Match type, it contains search fields that define the search parameters. For details on search fields refer to the QueryDescriptor model.
Criterion: A criterion represents a single search field, that comprises of an operator and one or more value fields. For value fields that render LOV components, the autoComplete feature is not enabled unless either of the methods, AttributeCriterion.hasDependentCriterion() or ListOfValuesModel.isAutoCompleteEnabled() return true. This is done to allow the end-user to enter partial values with wild-cards and tab around the search panel without causing the LOV dialog to be launched (everytime they tab-out of the LOV value field).
Action buttons: The search panel has four action buttons: Search, Reset, Save, and Add Fields. The action buttons appear below the criteria region. They are end-aligned within the search header.
NOTE: The Add Fields feature is only available in the Advanced mode.

• Query help - Inventory, warehouse, Price List, AP PO, & wildcard search?

Hi All,
I have a query that does a lookup on inventory and returns useful info as onhand, committed, warehouse,
various price list data etc. It is very useful for our telephone sales guys as they can see all the information
they need in one quick search. There is a wildcard variable that searches both the ItemCode and ItemName
fields to return possible results.
I would like to add one further column to this query.. being the ETA (DocDueDate) of the most recent Open
AP purchase order that relates to the Item.. if any. I want to return the rest of the result even if there is no
AP Purchase Order open.
I have posted two queries below. The first is the original query that works well. It offers wildcard search
of the ItemCode and ItemName, but does not give me the ETA (DocDueDate) of any open AP Purchase
orders for the item (what I want).
The second query does give me everything thing I want returned, but only if I enter the exact ItemCode
into the variable field. I can no longer do the wildcard search that I also want. Some of our codes are simply
not practical to remember, and cannot be easily identified. this is why I need the wildcard search to look in
both the Item and Name column and return possible matches.
I have both queries below.
This is the working original query...
SELECT
T0.[ItemCode],
T0.[ItemName],
CAST (T0.[OnHand] As INT) As ' Total On Hand',
CAST ((SELECT OnHand from OITW where ItemCode=t0.ItemCode and WhsCode=01) As INT) As 'Melb Whse',
CAST ((SELECT OnHand from OITW where ItemCode=t0.ItemCode and WhsCode=06) As INT) As 'Demo Whse',
CAST ((SELECT OnHand from OITW where ItemCode=t0.ItemCode and WhsCode=04) As INT) As 'Bill Car Stock',
CAST ((SELECT OnHand from OITW where ItemCode=t0.ItemCode and WhsCode=05) As INT) As 'Brett Car Stock',
CAST (T0.[IsCommited] As INT) As 'Committed',

This is the new query with the AP PO DocDueDate lookup included. (Wildcard searches dont work anymore)
SELECT
T0.[ItemCode],
T0.[ItemName],
CAST (T0.[OnHand] As INT) As ' Total On Hand',
CAST ((SELECT OnHand from OITW where ItemCode=t0.ItemCode and WhsCode=01) As INT) As 'Melb Whse',

As you can see in query 2, I used the same variable to attempt to lookup the DocDueDate from OPOR.
This only works if I enter the variable exactly as ItemCode. No longer wildcard search.
if anyone could offer any assistance it would be most appreciated.
Best regards,
John

Hi István,
Thanks! That works great.
The only additional thing I need is to return the DocNum of the Purchase order (DocNum from OPOR). I attempted to do this by adding T.[DocNum] to your suggested query as per below... however it returns error "Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced wit EXISTS"
SELECT
T0.[ItemCode],
T0.[ItemName],
CAST (T0.[OnHand] As INT) As ' Total On Hand',
CAST ((SELECT OnHand from OITW where ItemCode=t0.ItemCode and WhsCode='01') As INT) As 'Melb Whse',
CAST ((SELECT OnHand from OITW where ItemCode=t0.ItemCode and WhsCode='06') As INT) As 'Demo Whse',
CAST ((SELECT OnHand from OITW where ItemCode=t0.ItemCode and WhsCode='04') As INT) As 'Bill Car Stock',
CAST ((SELECT OnHand from OITW where ItemCode=t0.ItemCode and WhsCode='05') As INT) As 'Brett Car Stock',
CAST (T0.[IsCommited] As INT) As 'Committed', CAST (T0.[OnOrder] As INT) As 'On Order',
(SELECT TOP 1 T.[DocNum], T.[DocDueDate] FROM OPOR T INNER JOIN POR1 Tt ON T.DocEntry = Tt.DocEntry
WHERE Tt.[ItemCode]=T0.ItemCode And T.[DocStatus] ='O' ORDER BY T.[DocDate] Asc) As 'ETA',

• Is it possible to change the number of rows to be displayed in adf query ?

Hello,
is it possible to change the number of rows that are displayed in an adf query similar to an adf form ?

• Oracle BI Publisher - Passing multiple wildcard search to a bind variable

Hi,
Please help me in resolving the below mentioned issue:
I have developed a report in oracle BI Publisher with a SQL query.
While scheduling the report to run I used to pass mutilple parameters like CGAMSVC08,RLCSVC51
If the pass the parameter with wildcard search like C% it works.
When I pass two or more parameter values with wildcard search like C%,R% its not working.
Could you please let me know how should I give the bind variable in the SQL query. Currently I'm paramater like the one shown below for passing multiple paramaters:
Where (',' || :PRMRETRID || ',' like '%,'||RL.RETROFIT_ID|| ',%')
Edited by: user1101445 on May 23, 2012 2:02 AM

HI Tyler.
Well, here's the latest.
I found this little gem in the BIEE 10.1.3.3.3 Release Notes Documentation...
This issue applies to Versions 10.1.3.3, 10.1.3.3.1, 10.1.3.3.2, and 10.1.3.3.3.
Reports that use the BI Publisher data template as the data model may fail with the
following error: "Data not defined."
This error will occur if you defined a parameter in your data template but you do not
pass a value to it via the user interface. If you do not specify this parameter in the "Parameters" section of the report definition that you created using the BI Publisher Edit Report interface, then you will receive the error.
To work around this issue, either define the parameter in the Edit Report interface or remove the parameter from the data template.
That bit is now working.
Having set this up and using your guide it works if my SOAP parameters declaration passes a single value like this...
<parameterNameValues>

<multiValuesAllowed>true</multiValuesAllowed>
<values>

16641

</values>

</parameterNameValues>
But if I try and pass two or more like this...
<parameterNameValues>

<multiValuesAllowed>true</multiValuesAllowed>
<values>

16641,18421

</values>

</parameterNameValues>
BIP states "java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01722: invalid number"
My SQL where clause is..
<sqlStatement name="Q1">
select * from vw_invoice_summary
where invoice_summary_id IN (:P_INVOICE_ID)
</sqlStatement>
And the BIP error records the parameter value as P_INVOICE_ID 16641,18421 (which are legit invoice IDs)
In summary, works if I pass one invoice ID, fails if I pass two or more.
Any ideas? Or do you reckon this is now a post for the BIP forum?
Kind regards.

Hi Frank.
I'm using JDev 11.1.1.3.0 as you suggest the error is no longer present in the latest version.
I can pick my query from the "Saved Search" pick list on the QueryPanel list of queries just fine, and it sets up the filter properly, but when I press the "Search" button, I get the same reported error...

• SharePoint 2013 Online - Default Wildcard Search

Is there a way I can change SP to always append a * to the end of every search?
We're using the Online version (tied in with O365), and it has been requested that we have every search be a wildcard search by default. I found walkthroughs for SharePoint 2010, but the interface and menus have changed in 2013.

You can edit the Search Results Web Part. Then from the web part properties, click on Change Query.
Now in the popup modal window, click on "Advanced Mode".
In Query text, you can use {SearchBoxQuery}*

• Can't perform wildcard searches

Hello world,
We're using Portal 3.0.9.8.1 with Patch 1949492 installed. This is on 8.1.7.2.4 SE Database.
When performing a search, cannot include wildcards. E.g. a search for 'test' returns only the exact word 'test'. It does not return 'testing','tester','test1','detests'.
This is against what Portal's Own Help file states. Click 'Search Tips' on the 'Advanced Search Page' and you are told the following:
The % character is interpreted literally, so do not include it as a wildcard. If you enter 100% as your search term, search finds content that contains the text 100%, not 1000 or 10000. Wildcards are automatically added to the beginning and end of your search term, so searching for 100 will automatically return content that contains 1000 and 10000.
If interMedia is installed and enabled, search automatically uses the stem operator to search for words that have the same linguistic root as the specified word. For example, if you specified the word lift, the search feature will return content that contains the words lift, lifting, lifted, etc.
Both of these statements are blatantly untrue as it does neither.
Any thoughts Oracle? Has anyone else managed a wildcard search?
Frustrated
Dave

I've just verified in 3.0.9 and wildcards are applied as specified in the documentation, when Text is not enabled. If your search term is 'test' then the SQL query will have the search term %test%. Literal % signs in your search term are escaped, so that if your search term was test% then the query would be for %test^%% escape ^.
There are a few things to remember. When searching WITHOUT Intermedia Text enabled the search will only match terms in the title and description of the item.
When, Intermedia Text is enabled, all of the content will be searched. However, as indicated in the documentation, the stem operator will be used. So if you search for 'test' the query is now a Text contains('$test') type query. The default operator is the '$' stem operator, which match terms that have the same linguistic root. So if your search term is 'test' it should match 'tests' or 'testing' or 'tested'. However, it will not match 'test1'. Please refer to the Intermedia Text documenation for more information on the stem operator and Text searching in general.

• Problem with ADF query form

Hi all,
i have a VO with query criteria, which i have added to the jsf page as adf query panel with table. On the query panel, there are two items on which the table content can be queried. (eg- its possible to query users either with their regNo,Client id or with both) . but it should not be possible to view users without not inputing values for both regNo,Client id. if user input value for either of those two, or both of those it should be possible to query. Is this possible with jdeveloper? How can it be done? pls advice.
Thnx,
Nad

Nad,
If I understand your question properly, you want to prohibit the user from performing a search unless at least one of the search criteria is filled in?
I haven't tried this, but I think you can probably do this by specifying a [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/apirefs.1111/e10684/oracle/adf/view/rich/event/QueryListener.html]Query Listener on the af:query component. In that listener, you could presumably check to see if either of the values is filled in, and if not, add a message to the faces context, otherwise pass on to the default... not a complete solution, but an idea.
