Ok, here's the setup. Grand total of 6 devices connecting to my home network. 1 smart phone, 2 laptops, 1 wired desktop, 1 wireless laptop and an Apple TV. The router is an Asus Dualband 750 N located in the basement with the wired desktop. (nothing I can do about the location of the router). I live in a 5 story house.....NOT WHAT YOU'RE THINKING. From the outside it looks like a 2 story house. It's split level..there's the catch. Nonetheless, the apple TV is currently on the 5th level and gets decent reception. There's hardly ever lag running Netflix or Hulu Plus. However the Macmini on the 4th floor that's running off wireless is in a dead zone of the house that this new router from Asus can even fix. It's just one of those spots in the house.
Here's my plan. I work at Best Buy so I get discount on all this stuff anyway but I'm also on a budget. The Asus router was $129 minus discount. I've also come to realze that buying routers that say they support up to 300mps and + are an absolute waste of money considering your ISP doesn't even give you more than 25mps. You're essentially paying for the coverage. I will probably return the router.......BUT....before I do I want a little more advance opinions on this.
I was going to go with the Linksys E1200 for $59 and buy a set of powerline adapters to plug in downstairs so I can hardwire my Macmini into the network. I will later be relocating my bed room to the fourth floor in the same room as my Macmini so my Apple TV and HDTV will follow. (I have a 8 port switch waiting for a full wired setup.)
I suppose bottom line, my question is....do you really need DualBand to support HD video streaming? It's really the only thing using internet access at night.

Actually dual band routers will help you get optimum performance especially for the wireless connection but that doesn't mean just speeding up network throughput or making the wireless signal stronger. It means tweaking settings to prevent constant streaming video buffering and lag over the internet. Correct settings shoud also be set on the router and the wireless adapters/ cards on the wireles computers also supports 5GHz. What I could suggest is look for a router that suits best to what you're trying to achieve. These sites might help.

Address Book Sync Probs

I have spent the last 5 hours trying to sync my Address Book with my iPhone. I bought the phone because I though it would have easy syncing with my Mac, unlike by Blackberry, but it has so far been a waste of my time.
I have tried reinstalling the new iTunes and even restored my iPhone. I changed every setting I could find just to see if it would work. I have 155 contacts but even tried to just limit the sync with only 1 contact and it still did not work.
Please help, I am not in the mood to have to stay in another long line to try to return it!!

contact folders that don't even exist anymore in my

I had this as well. I rebooted the computer, ran the .MAC sync
and then it >showed up properly in iTunes. I don't really think
the .MAC part is needed but that is what I did.
I am having this identical situation. I reset my sync to .Mac, over-riding from the computer > .Mac. This operation succeeded, but iTunes 7.3 still shows address book groups and iCal calendars that have long since been deleted, and any attempt to sync Contacts causes a process called SyncServer to gobble up all available processor power, revving up the fan on my PowerBook G4 (1.67 GHz, OS 10.4.10) to full speed. This continues even if I cancel the sync on the phone and/or in iTunes; until I open Activity Viewer and force-quit SyncServer.
I am considering bringing my 'Book and 'Phone to the Genius Bar for advanced assistance, though I suspect a iTunes 7.3.1 will be required to fix this....

Photoshop Elements Menu Bar Troublehsooting

Hey everyone, first time poster here. I have a question concerning a recurring problem that I'm having with Photoshop Elements 4.0's Menu Bar (File, Edit, etc.) I bought Elements 4.0 new in 2005 and have used it often since without upgrading because it still does what I need it to do for graphic design and photo restoration projects, but often, Elements' Menu Bar will lock up after increasingly shorter sessions of use. I can still use photo editing functions in the fields on the left & right, but the Menu Bar's buttons will flicker and not open when I click on them. When this happens, Elements won't close without Task Manager, and I can't use certain keyboard shortcuts on open projects (i.e. I can copy work suing Ctrl + C but I can't save it in Elements using Ctrl + S.) An unistallation and re-installation does solve the problem at first, but the frozen/flickering Menu Bar does return eventually
I don't want to buy a whole new version of Photoshop if I don't have to, so I was wondering if this was a recurring or fixable problem that I can correct, or is this a sign that I should get Elements 11 or 12? I'm running an HP Touchsmart 300 computer with Windows 7, and it flawlessly runs Elements 4.0 despite it's age aside from the aforementioned problem. This has been a recurring issue for over a year, but only now is it getting to a frequency rate where I can't move around it easily. I can provide other information if it's at all helpful, and thanks for any advance assistance!

First, thank you lundberg2 for moving this to the right forum, I didn't know that Elements had a separate forum.
I did delete the preference file for Elements 4.0, though not the way you gave because the Alt+Ctrl+Shift command didn't work on this version. I did it manually by deleting the Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 Prefs.psp file located in AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/4.0/Editor. This did help temporarily, but the problem returned after steady use today on restoring old family photos. Menu Bar buttons still just highlight and flicker, work can't be saved directly, and Elements won't close. I did notice that sometimes, changing the active tool on the left would get the Menu Bar selections open, but not all worked as normal, and the problem returned if I changed tools. Is there another possible fix/remedy that I could try?

Flash Player Won't Work - IE9, Windows 7 64 bit

The topic states my issue. After multiple uninstalls/reinstalls, I cannot get Adobe Flash Player to work with this system running IE9, Windows 7 64 bit. Please, are there any suggestions from anyone who has encountered this problem with this system setup?

After uninstalling flash player install Subinacl and run reset_fp10.cmd as per the instructions from the link. I had to run this from an Administrator command prompt, double clicking the cmd file in step 6 did not produce results, instead just alot of file not found errors looking for Subinacl even though it was installed in the same directory.

Also some of these keys may be remaining that need to be removed from the registry via a registry editor or regalyzer, if you are unfamiliar with this seek some advanced assistance. Deleting the wrong registry values/keys could damage your system.
Run regedit, click edit and Find, then search for each of these and delete the ones you find. Deleting others could damage the system.

All of those were left after uninstalling and running the reset_fp10.cmd file.
Afterwards restart the computer and reinstall flash, all should work properly.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.

The OCR charter set file advanced threshold data is always fixed at 255 upper value and optimize for speed is checked.
I edit them and reopen the file but no change.

Thanks for your answer. Yeah I have seen the examples and I´m familiar with the use of the OCR VI. I have use it a couple of time already with good results.
My problem came last week. While I was trying to run OCR on my image in my LabVIEW code. The algorithm did not detected what I was expecting.
I decided to run the test on the vision assistant and it worked perfectly. I assumed my code had different parameters, so I decided to generate a VI from the vision asssistant and run it on LabVIEW for the same image to verify.
I did not change anything on the VI (all parameters are the same), and used the same image. Surprinsingly the results are different between the assistant and the VI. That strikes me a lot!
I´ll start a new thread as you recommended. Hope to find the solution soon. Thanks

Thank you. Here's the strange part, it did work at one time but when the last IOS upgrade occured, that's when the issue started.

Were you migrating from a Time Machine backup or via WiFi, ethernet, or Firewire?

Hi all,
I want to create an advanced action that adds three variables to a fourth.
I want to create the following advanced action. Total_Score=Best_Score - Medium_Score - Low Score. Is there any way to add the third variable (Low Score) in the dialog window? I can only see 2 places for entering data.

Advanced Pricing - Assistance with Freight Modifier

Can anyone assist with a Freight and Special charge modifier I am trying to create in 11.5.10.2
Scenario:
Due to this being product category related I have to create line level modifiers
1 x item ordered Freight cost = £8.50
2 - 3 items ordered Freight Cost = £15.50 (lumpsum)
4+ items ordered £15.50 (lumpsum) + £5 per additional item
The complete order will have to recalculate to ensure the correct carriage is finally charged

The updater should close those processes for you - it didn't used to do so but should now.
If it won't quit the processes for you, open Activity Monitor (Applications>Library folder), search for the processes and quit them. You should be able to install the update now.
I just find it odd that the updater isn't quitting the processes on its own..

Assisting DP for feature, his workflow is advanced for my experience. Aja..

Hello, I'm assisting a DP on a feature shoot but have only done craptastic indy stuff in the past. He wants to shoot on a Sony EX3 using the HD-SDI output. That output will potentially go to the Aja i/o HD box. He wants to do this to maintain the 4:2:2 10bit uncompressed output.
He's asking me if this is OK since I am in charge of data capture and backup on location and will be organizing post production in FCP. It's a little intimidating and I'm muscling through the manuals now, but want to hear of any red flags or advice to consider asap.
What is the most professional workflow for this situation? I have a MacBook Pro that can be on location and a Mac 8-core for when we shoot in house. Am i going to need a raid HD set up to capture this uncompressed footage?
Any articles you may recommend for this type of workflow to help flatten the learning curve? I know this is an ignorant post, I just want to beat the learning curve as fast as possible before I'm judged as incompetent and possibly demoted.

Hi Monty,
the problems I see are:
1) it sounds like you are assuming that the video you capture on your macbook Pro will be the "Master" for the entire project. That is very risky, unless your Storage is Raid 5 or 6. it is difficult to find a really good Raid 5 or 6 Enclosure that is firewire based. If you have a Mac Pro with the Card slot and put in an E-Sata Raid Card (if there is such a thing?) or a Multi-Lane E-Sata Card that you connect to a Raided Enclosure, then that might work. But the I/O HD uses the only Firewire 800 connection on the 15 inch Mac Pros. so, firewire drives might not be an option.
2) your DP is correct in one respect, taking the HD SDI out of the Camera and recording that will give him the image directly as the Camera's Sensor sees it, which should give you a better overall image (because it doesn't get compressed into MPEG 2), but that approach will force you into the problem above. Because whatever you record will end up being the "Master" for the project and if something goes wrong half way through the project and you lose all your footage, you will not be able to then use the footage from the Camera to rebuild your project, because the Timecode on the Camera Footage will be completely different then the timecode of your original Captured Footage.
Make sure you plan ahead for all possible problems and have a way to work around them.
