Advice needed related to career in SRM

Hi all,
1)Please tell me what exact ABAP is used i mean topic wise like ALV,BADI,EXITS,ALE-IDOC,SMART FORM etc is used
in higher end modules like SCM so that i can plan of becoming
tech-func in scm side.
2)Also to what extent is SCM is functional as i heard these higher end modules are more technical than functional.
3) Which one to choose between SCM/SRM/CRM.
Thanks.

Hi Sandeep,
Below are my comments for your queries:
1. ABAP is as important for new dimensional SAP mosules as it is for basic R/3 modules. Apart from ABAP, a technical consultant should be comfortable working on ITS and BSP for current versions and webdynpro for upcomming versions. Knowledge of workflows and middleware components would be an added advantage.
2. I dont agree with your second statement. I will re-phrase it as "New dimensional components involves  more technical work (knowledge of system integration technologies) as compared to SAP's basic modules. The reason is these components involes web based user interface and are dependent on other SAP modules.
3. Choosing a domain is upto your comfort. All these are totally different areas. For SCM, yo need to be comfortable with manufacturing business process, for CRM, you need to comfortable with SD business processes and for SRM, you need to be comfortable with MM business processes.
The most tricky part for a functional consultant is Business Blue Print phase, where the functional consultant has to understand the business and propose the solution. Some times the requirements can be mapped to SAP (either using standard or thru custom developments), but sAT times we need to play process consultants role and suggest change management, which needs thorough understanding onclient buisiness.
Sometimes people misunderstand functional consulting as system configuration. Its not so.
I will suggest you to take a decision depending on your of expertese.
I hope this answers to your queries.

Prashant

(i've still got the job at the petrol station as the manager)
ive liked data base management subject when i was in the University so, Ive been reading OCA-051 & interested on OCA qualification I just want to know what are the possible jobs i can apply if i get the certification? Basically what should i do to get any IT related job? :( ( i dont like programming)..

Thanks. You'll sit on your bum and ruin your back again with most IT jobs. With your government shrinking, OCA qualification won't have much worth unless you personally know someone in the private sector that needs help. An operator job with your petrol company (assuming it's not just a mom 'n pop station) would probably require heavy lifting.
IT is a good, solid, growing career path, but most of the work is still programming, and most ways up to better jobs go through that experience. You might be an exception if you have a way to join other skills with your IT education, such as business analysis or sales or web prettyfying. Perhaps the determinants are your personality and goals.
I know, it's tough, but if you are honest with yourself and check out some of the "what color is my parachute" kinds of career advice books, you can find a happy medium. There actually are some benefits in starting a career during economically troubled times, but you only see that in retrospect. You have to decide on goals, pursue them vigorously, and reevaluate when it doesn't work for you.

  • Desperate troubleshooting advice needed

I spilled juice on my desk (yes I know the lecture). It went UNDER the machine. I unplugged the mouse & keyboard, wen and got some towels & dried the desk off. Thne I pulled the machine up & wiped all under it & over the desk. I wiped everything down. Then I noticed the display was blank- but the little power light was on. after making sure everything was dry (I THOUGHT) I plugged the keyboard & mouse back in. Then, due to the blank display, I did a hard restart. It has been dead since.
I guess my question is, is this a case where some mopisture DID get in somewhere Y fry the power supply? Or could it be something else- worse or better?
Thanks so much to the community here for any advice.

Once electronics have got wet you need to leave them sufficient time to fully dry off. If the liquid is sticky it'll need to be carefully wiped out of any part of the casing/any parts it has got on to.
The power supply is mounted high up in the dome. In fact the lowest components are the SODIMM RAM and Airport (Extreme) card, above that is the logicboard which is immediately surrounded by the vent hole you can see on the base.
You can see that the logic board is mounted on a black tray but it is very close to the ring of vent holes. The blue mouse mat in this image is where the front of the iMac is.
I'd advise disconnecting the iMac from the mains power for some time. Then follow the instructions mhunter gives in this post (link) to clean down any sticky areas.
After that let us know what symptoms you get.

  • Advice needed on buying iphone as gift

I went to apple store, they do not want to sell iphone to me unless I sign AT&T 2 years plan. I thought AT&T has locked the phone and users must subscribe in order to use it. Why Apple store still not allow me to buy?
Please advice, if I want to buy online iphone for my brother, do I or my brother have obligation to sign out AT&T plan?
One more advice needed, I found the shipment takes weeks, do I have option to arrange for self-collection?
My brother birthday is coming soon, I need above advice urgently.
    Thank you very much

I'm guessing English is not your first language. It's possible that you misunderstood them. Apple Store employees won't refuse to sell you an iPhone and you don't have to sign up for service in the store.
    Well that's not entirely true.
Apple Stores have been instructed not to sell you an iPhone if any of the following is true:
    • You state that you will not be signing up with AT&T.
    • You do not have an ID from a US state, also indicating you will not be activating with AT&T
    • You do not have a credit card
For example, I've seen US Apple Store managers refuse to sell iPhones to European residents because of the AT&T lock-in.

  • Video intensive work on Mac Pro? Advice Needed

    Hi everyone,
I've been originally saving up for a while now for an iMac 24" as it offers the best specification price wise. But now I leaning on the Mac Pro and therefore need some advice.
I know that there are alot of posts on advice - need to buy mac etc. so therfore I would really appreciate if I am afforded some help.
I am mostly going to do ALOT of video encoding (via handbrake) and I am looking for the best configuration available to achieve lowest waiting time.

I think you should go back and look at the other threads with advice, your budget. There is "ideal" and "affordable."
Will it pay for itself in 24 months so you can afford the next revision at that time?
    Start with an 8-Core 3GHz.
Add a Port Multiplier controller and two drive cases, 5 drives each, nearly 400MB/sec RAID.
    Throw in 8GB RAM.
Add in costs for software upgrades, two sets of backups, four internal 500GB drives.
Seagate has 750GB, as does WD. Hitachi has their $450 1000GB monster.
Give yourself time to build, test, and optimize your setup, and expect to change it over time as you learn more.
Can't afford that? then trim the 8-core. But Apple has shown how efficient next generation applications already are for video when it comes to 3GHz 8-core Mac Pro.

    Hi All,
Please provide me all the t codes related to direct invoices , SRM and Manual Purchase orders
    Thanx in advance,
    Ravi.

    Dear Ravi,
use Transaction Se16 and write the table name as TSTC what you will get is a list of all T-codes with there description.
Another method is using the Transaction-SDMO here you enter the text and you will get all transactions related to the text you enter.
Using these two transactions I hope you would be able to find out all the t-codes.
    Cheers,

Had to have a rebuild of my laptop....have now lost all my music from my itunes, but I can't transfer back on from my ipod. Also had to register my laptop (same) as another computers, so now no music showing as purchased, though I have. Also have hours of uploaded music from my own purchased, legitimate CDs, but won't transfer from ipod...it says it will erase. So very frustrated....thanks mr technician!    PLEASE  ....help, advice needed!

I believe that if you do a clean reinstall from your HD's recovery sector (D) or Recovery disks, the hard drive sector C is wiped clean. Everything goes, apps, data, address books, music, pix, viruses
    Is that what you did?

I am using InDesign CS5. I have a body of text which is ranged left with tabbed indents. My client now wants the copy to be justifed, keeping the tabbed indents. Help and advice needed please!

    Hi
That screen grab helps a lot. There’s a much easier way of doing what you’re doing.
Remove all your tabs and set the text in justified paragraphs.
I’ve typed in dummy text in the example I made below, but after “19.1” put in a space and put your blinking cursor after the space and before the ’N’ of ‘Notices'.
Then hold down the Command key and hit Backspace (on Mac at least - it’s the key between the Inverted commas/ apostrophe key and the return key).
The text will jump into place the way you want it to.
    Hope that helps
    Paul
PS You can set a tab, instead of using a space, in the description I gave above. So, after 19.1 or 19.2 or 19.185 etc etc insert a tab, then hit the Command Backspace after every paragraph number and they'll all line up exactly together. You'll find that editing text within the paragraphs
after you've set it will be LOADS easier this way.
You can put the tab anywhere you want it to be using 'Command-ShiftT' and putting a 'left align' tab just after the number. Just type the Command Backspace after the paragraph number and it'll work

  • SRM 7 Server Landscape - Advice needed

    Hi,
We are in the process of upgrading our SRM system to the new version SRM 7.0 u2013 could anybody offer some guidance on the new Server landscape needed for the new SRM.  Our old version had ITS servers and IPC servers and I know the new version is totally different.
We have put together a server landscape but just wanted to check that it was correct, as I cannot find any documentation that helps with this side.
Suggested Landscape: - Unix Central Instance with two windows Dialog Instances (Heterogeneous), then two Windows portals connecting to the Dialog Instance.  Do we need any Web dispatchers for this setup?  We only need SRM available internally (intranet)
    Any advice gratefully received.
    Thank you
    Karen

    Hi
Have a look at the Master and Installation guides at
    https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/instguides
You can find SRM documents in SAP Business Suite APplication > SAP SRM> SAP SRM Server 7.0 on this page.
You dont need ITS with SRM 7.0, Portal is mandatory. Your existing IPC will be used in the same way it was installed and configured in older versions

  • Career in SAP - PS at the age of 42. Advice needed.

    Hi,
I need some suggestions as I am considering making career transition to SAP u2013 PS. I live in the US so I will be pursuing my career in this country. Hereu2019s my background info:
I am a PMP certified and ITIL V3 Foundation certified Sr. Project Manager. I am 42 years old and I have over 15 years of IT experience. Also, I started working on my PMI-Agile certification (PMI-ACP). I work as a consultant.
My expertise is in managing from small to large development and functional projects, process improvement, data management, data strategy, liaison between IT staff and business clients, process Improvement, Software Development Life Cycle, Risks and Issues management, Business Analysis, Software Requirements, Technical Solutions, Time Estimating, Work/ Resource Breakdown Structure, Project Scheduling and Budgeting, Strategic Planning and Solutions, MS Project etc.
Prior to project management, I had strong technical background in Data warehouse, data migration, Database architecture, design, development, performance tuning etc. primarily in Oracle and SQL Server, Business objects, UNIX etc. I have around 13 years of Oracle and Unix experience.
After discussion with several training institutions, they said that SAP u2013 PS is the best option to start SAP career. My questions are:
    - Is it good idea to make a career transition to SAP at the age of 42 in USA?
    - I am at a senior level of my career. Will I be considered an entry level if I start SAP career or will my prior experience be given some credit?
    - My goal is to continue consulting for a few more years and then take a permanent (non- consulting) career. I want to stop travelling on the job. I know a few SAP professionals and they all have a travelling job. Are there good positions in SAP (Manager or director level) that do not involve a lot of travel?
    - Other than SAP-PS, what other functional areas of SAP will be worth looking into?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Is it good idea to make a career transition to SAP at the age of 42 in USA?
It is never too late to start over or make a transition in your career. I know somebody who at 40 transitioned from a manufacturing area to become a BASIS consultant.
I am at a senior level of my career. Will I be considered an entry level if I start SAP career or will my prior experience be given some credit?
With your kind of experience and background, you will fit the bill of a Project Manager. Good knowledge in SAP PS will just be a "good-to-have" item on your resume.
My goal is to continue consulting for a few more years and then take a permanent (non- consulting) career. I want to stop travelling on the job. I know a few SAP professionals and they all have a travelling job. Are there good positions in SAP (Manager or director level) that do not involve a lot of travel?
Yes most SAP Consultants travel a lot. But it depends on the kind of organization you work for. A purely consulting company will demand frequent travelling. But if you work for a product company or if your company is the "client" then the travel is minimal.
Other than SAP-PS, what other functional areas of SAP will be worth looking into?
As I said earlier, you do not have to get your hands dirty with the various modules in SAP. For your experience you can oversee the work done by others. But yes, always better to have a good command in the module. PS module is one of the most robust and "complete" modules in SAP. It is probably the only module that is in some way or the other connected to all the core modules in SAP - MM, SD, FI, WM.... you name it.
So to sum up, if you have a great command over PS, then you pretty much know a thing or two (considering the oceanic size) in SAP.

  • Advice needed on possible virus related prob - please help!

    Evening everyone,
I previously posted on here about an issue I was having with my external hard drive not mounting. I erased it and got it to mount but now I get an error message saying File could not be transferred as it could not be read or written.
I have recently come to suspect I might be harbouring viruses on my macbook as one turned up on my pendrive and on some email attatchments I've sent and was wondering if you think this could be causing the problem with the hard drive? If not - what might be? I've read that some people think it's a prob with tiger. Also can anyone recommend some virus software? I know a lot of people use clam but does that work with intel macs? Also I don't know much about the technical side of things and it doesn't look too user friendly - do you think it would be worth buying a full package like Norton?
Thanks in advance for all of your help!

    Hi Sherman,
Thanks for your help! The ignore ownership box was already ticked. Tried to repair the disk and it did find errors but the repair did not work - it says that the underlying task report failure on exit. Any more suggestions? Is it not possible that I am harbouring a PC virus - it isn't affecting my mac but could it not be playing havoc with the hard drive? Or is that just broken and I should send it back?
I am currently studying in spain for the year but am from the UK and will be back there this weekend so am hoping to sort the problem out before then, or go visit the genius bar in london while I am home.
    Thanks again!

  • Need Advice on LabVIEW as career

Hi all my question is really simple. I enjoy doing LabVIEW and want to do more and more work because I enjoy working with it. Any suggestions please that how can develop my self more and more in it and what about doing it for living ..I've been working on LabVIEW for 1 year now for my different university level projects. Is there any way other than this forum also where I can polish my LabVIEW skills more. Hope you people will guide me through. Thanks in advance.
    Naqqash

Although LAVA can be interseting in an achademic way, the traffic is too low to get any real pratcie working for that forum.
While you are still developing your skills the NI forum are a good place to do your prep work. After you get good and can answer all of the question on the NI side, then LAVA is the next step.
    Find a "Pet Project"
This should be a project that YOU really want and is beyond your current skill set. Work on it regulalry and post up if you get stuck. You can study all day and night but a real project is the best thing for my learning plans.
How I suggest using the NI forum:
    1) Get your basics together. Durring this phase you should gird-up your loins and let people beat you up. If someone honors you by posting your code to the Rube Goldberg thread, you will be getting specail attention. Durring this phase you should find thread that you know the answer and you should code up and POST AN IMAGE of your solution. If none of the frequent flyers jump on your, don't feel bad, you probalbly got it right. If they jump on you, listen to why and re-code as per the suggsetions.
Don't let the quesion already being answered stop you from coding and posting. This will help others by seeing the code and will let you check that you understood the ideas.
    2) When you get past the basics start taking a chance on stuff that you are not sure about. Don't claim to have the answer but mention that you are just trying. Again watch for the experienced contributors to critique your code.
    3) Start "teasing the bears" and review answer that you think you understand but your idea differs from that posted by the others. By knocking heads with the experieinced developers you will be helping them by keeping them honest, and maybe your idea will actually be better.
    4) Write a Nugget. If your Nugget is well recieved, you are there!
    5) Sign-up for LAVA and start all over again.
    PLEASE REMEMBER
The only persons ever "tar and feathered" on this forum were people that thought the new everything and communicated this fact regularly ("Those that think they know everything are particularly iritiating to those of us who do." Author unknown) So stay humble and hope someone beats you up.
    Just trying to help,
    Ben
PS: Please not I am NOT knocking LAVA. I am one of the active contributors there as well and post under the name "neBulus".

  • Formatting/file storage advice needed (Boot camp related)

Here's my situation: I'm about to install Boot Camp so I can run a couple of audio editors in Windows xp. The stuff I'm going to edit is - at the moment - on my Mac HD (i.e. in HFS+).
Here's what I planned to do: make an NTFS partition big enough to comfortably accommodate the XP and the software, run Mac Drive (or something similar) to access the wave files I have on my Mac HD and when I'm finished editing, save them on the Mac HD again. Does this sound plausible? Will I run into any problems? Or should I make the NTFS partition big enough to host the wave files I'm going to be editing? This doesn't really appeal to me, but I'm open to suggestions... I appreciate any tips you may have.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
Here's my situation: I'm about to install Boot Camp so I can run a couple of audio editors in Windows xp. The stuff I'm going to edit is - at the moment - on my Mac HD (i.e. in HFS+).

Sounds resonable to me. Using MacDrive in XP to read and write files on a HFS+ partition usually pose no problem.
A second possibility and/or addition (and one I would prefer) is to use an external harddisk formatted with FAT32 file system for transfer of files and maybe also for backup of your files.
But keep in mind that FAT32 has a built-in single-file size limitation of 4GB.
If timing is critical and/or you are doing real-time editing it might be advisable to have the audio files on your Windows NTFS partition while working on them.
