Airport extreme suddenly no more internet, tried it all, nothing works

so here i'm diving into my big PC to MAC project. first, bought a new macbook air & an airport extreme 802.11n box a couple of weeks ago. it all worked perfectly for about 3 days. during my installation of it all i got also the firmware updated on the airport extreme automatically to 7.3.1 and even then had no problems for the first 3 days even had another home pc wireless connected.
suddenly now though internet does not work anymore. the white box is connected to a VDSL (super fast connection here in korea) modem. thought something was wrong with that first, got a tech guy in but he showed me all worked well if i connected via a single ethernet cable.
then, when i run diagnostics out of safari (when i get prompted after a while) it shows me that the internet does not work but i'm connected to the white box. during that process, i'm asked to turn the modem on and off and then i can actually can get ONE single page downloaded wireless and then it stops again.
i have read a lot of comments recently from people experiencing time outs or also loss of internet from turning machines off and on for 15 minutes to changing ipv6 settings to downgrade the firmware to 7.2.1 . i have done it all and the best i can get is one page, atfer running that diagnostics prompt within safari.
i'm at the end with my limited mac knowledge and i'm ready to throw the box out of my home office. i start to wonder if my pc to mac strategy was right. i had alrady a headache getting xp installed onto parallels for my couple of windows applications that i can't replace with mac software and now this.
IF anybody has any more ideas, they will be much appreciated, thanks from seoul.

thanks for that dchao99. yes maybe the thing is simply broken .
1) yes can do that of course but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a wireless box and does not help me with my other machines in the home as they are too far away from it. i will test it of course as it will be interesting to see if in that way, the internet will at least work
2) yes i can see it and even upload firmware etc. just no internet connection anymore .
3) thanks will try that once i'm back home later this week (i'm on the road right now) and will let you know if it made a difference. if not , i guess i will finally have to get mac-support korea on the phone somehow as they don't work on weekends and thats mainly when i'm home...

  • New Airport Extreme, Green Light,  No Internet

Trying to get wifi connection so my mom can use her new ipad I bought her for Christmas and so guests can use wifi when they visit. I connected this new airport extreme 802.11n Wi_Fi to their comcast modem. After connecting get green light on airport extreme but now no internet connection on mac desktop computer. Have tried resetting modem, powering off airport and computer... still no internet. Internet works fine using comcast modem but does not connect to internet at all with airport extreme. Help. Extremely frustrated and ready to return this airport extreme.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
It's likely not the AirPort Extreme that is causing your issue. It is the cable modem.
Perhaps you were not aware that a cable modem must be completely reset whenever there is a change in the device that the modem is connected to? Your ISP should have made this clear to you. A good reset often takes 30 minutes or more.
Push the reset button on the modem
Power off the modem for 30 minutes
Pull the battery if it's easily accessible
Power down the AirPort Extreme and your computers
After the wait period, power up the modem first and let it run for 3-4 minutes by itself.
Then power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
Then power up your other devices the same way
Please post back on your results.

  • How do I connect Airport Extreme to U-verse Internet Gateway: Motorola Model NVG510

I tried to set up a new network with the Airport Extreme and get no Internet connectivity from the AT&T gateway.  The Extreme network sets up fine and I can access it from all my devices, but no Internet.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Mick Jones

It will only take a minute to check the Ethernet cable. Just connect it from a LAN <-> port on the Uverse gateway to  the Ethernet port on a computer. Turn off the wireless on the computer and see if you can get a good Internet connection that way.
If you can, great. You cannot, then you either have a bad Ethernet cable or the port on the gateway may not be working correctly.
Power up the AirPort Extreme for a few minutes
Then, hold in the reset button on the AirPort Extreme for 10-12 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Connect the Ethernet cable from a LAN <-> port on the Uverse gateway to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click on Other WiFi Devices
    Click AirPort Extreme
The utility will open up automatically, take a minute to analyze things, then suggest that the AirPort will be configured to create a new network.  The window will look like the example below, except that you will see an AirPort Extreme instead of an AirPort Express.
Network Name......type in a short, simple name that you want to call your wireless network
Base Station Name.....type in a short, simple name that you want to use to identify the AirPort Extreme
Password......type in a password that will be used for both the Base Station and Wireless Network
    Verify the password
    Click Next
You should have a green light on the AirPort Extreme in a minute or two, and you should be able to log on to the new network and get an Internet connection.

  • Just purchased Airport Extreme ac and lost internet connection 3X. Reset to factory settings and worked for 2 days then lost connection and remedied by unplugging power supply. Anyone else having problems?

Just purchased Airport Extreme ac and lost internet connection 3X in less than one week. Fisrt time, reset to factory settings and fixed problem. Has occurred 2 additional times and connection re-established by unplugging AP extreme. Anyone else having these problems?  Do I have a bad router?  Thanks.

I definitely think this is a Mavericks issue.  My iMac running Mavericks is the ONLY system in the house that drops the network randomly while all other systems never lose the network.  No idea how to resolve this, but here is the workaround I'm posting:
I've had the 'network drop' issue with my Airport Extreme for the last 2 months.  It reconnects when I pull the ethernet cable and plug it back in.  I've tried downgrading the AE firmware, resetting to factory, etc.  Nothing worked.  I finally threw in the towel and created a script that monitors my network connectivity and restarts my interface if it senses it has dropped:
    #!/bin/ksh
    while true
    do
      yup=`ping -c1 -t2 www.google.com|grep from`
      if [[ -n $yup ]]
         then echo "Internet is connected!"
      else
ifconfig en0 down; ifconfig en0 up
            echo "Down at `date +%m%d%Y%H%M%S`">>./dropped.out
      fi
      sleep 5
    clear
    done
I know its a workaround, but its saving me the headache of constantly pulling my cable and putting it back in!
    Good luck!

  • After resetting airport extreme, cannot connect to internet

    Hi all,
Few weeks ago, my modem died so today I got a new one. Connected to Airport Extreme, it wouldn't work. I downloaded airport utility for windows (I am now using a window pc with airport) and did a reset and created a new network and none of it helped. The pc is seeing the airport but it just cant connect with the internet. I keep getting message that involves "double NAT"
    Please help thanks.

A Double NAT error indicates that your "modem" is actually a router. Since the AirPort Extreme is also a router, you wind up with two routers in series on a network, which is a no-no.
The AirPort Extreme needs to be configured in Bridge Mode to work correctly with your "modem".
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
    Update
    Then restart your entire network

  • Connects to Airport extreme but not to internet

Whenever I close my laptop and reopen, I lose internet connection thru the airport extreme and I won't get it back. It seems that I will have connection to the Airport Extreme, but not the internet.
Sometimes what fixes it is turning the airport off and then on again (sometimes multiple times). Usually restarting the computer fixes it (but not always).
What happens is this (viewing Sysprefs/network/airport/network status and "internet connect"): the internet connect will report connecting...then will announce "connected", but show no "time elapsed" at the same time the Net status will read "airport is connected to ..network...with it's own IP address and may or may not be connected to the internet" And I won't be.
Then, when it starts working again (after the abovementioned turning off/on) it will start counting time elapsed, then in Net Status it will say "airport connected to ..network. you are connected to the internet via airport."
Also, whenever I use "internet connect" to turn the airport off, when I turn it back on again I will not have internet access, just the messages I list above. The "strenth meter" will say my signal is good (which it should be) and it says I am connected but doesn't show "elapsed time" nor will I have actual internet access.
Again, restarting the computer will usually work (less often, logging out then back in).
Another strange symptom-- When I hit the "disconnect" button under the airport section of "internet connect" it disconnects, then reconnects immediately. When I hit the disconnect button w/ in the Sysprefs/network/airport...etc, it does nothing but bring to the front window the "internet connect" window. So the only way to "disconnect" is to turn off the airport (which results in the above problem).
Side note--I am in the habit of turning off the airport (not the base, but from the computer) when I don't plan on using it for security-- am I being excessively paranoid? I do have my firewall in operation. Should I just leave it (being the airport) on all the time (in your humble opinion?
Sorry if this makes no sense or rambles, it is now 5:30 am and She Who Must Be Obeyed will be getting up in about an hour wanting to know if I fixed the computer yet. I'm tired.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Help setting up using my airport extreme to share my internet connection

I want to use my built-in airport extreme to share my internet connection with my PS3. I have a verizon aircard and have read on the internet that this can be done (but not necessarily with airport). I turned on internet sharing with airport and my ps3 reads my connection and obtains my ip address, but then it says could not connect to internet due to DNS server error.
Could someone run me down the process step-by-step so I can see what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for your help.
P.S. I have a iMac running on leopard if that matters.

ll959reds, Welcome to the discussion area!
Unfortunately the Internet Sharing provided by OS X does not provide nearly the configuration possibilities as even a very inexpensive wireless router.
Also if the firewall is enabled on the iMac, it applies equally to all ports including the AirPort (wireless) connection to the PS3. Therefore the firewall will block many of the requests from the PS3. To solve this issues, you would either need to disable the iMac's firewall or configure the iMac's firewall to allow connections via the AirPort side.
A much simpler solution is to use a wireless router instead of your iMac to provide the connection for the PS3.

  • My ipod doesnt have headphones in but it says it is and i cant hear anything ive tried everything but nothing works help!!

My ipod says theres headphones in but there isnt ive tried everything but nothing works help!!!

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

Installing the latest update on my iPad - error message saying the iPad couldn't synchronize because of an internal error, and then - error message (OxE8004017) when trying to save, and then (2003) when trying to restore - nothing works anymore - On my iPad the only thing I see is a connector cord to iTunes and nothing else.
    What can I do  ???

Same issue for me, recently I started having issues with apps no longer being able to access my Facebook account. But the iPad Facebook account settings will not accept my password, even though the Facebook app and Safari can access my account fine. The only significant events I recall that have occurred that may have triggered this have been that via my Facebook account I killed off a lot of so called authorised connections and I changed my user name, but still have the same email address and password.
I have tried just about every solution put forward on the net, short of a factory restore, back to new, on my iPad.
I have also; deleted my iCloud account, deleted the Facebook app and account, deleted Safari data.
One would think that after I have deleted my account from the iPad that it would ask for both username/email address and password, but it only asks for password, so the username is still stored somewhere that I am unable to delete.
I also see that no one seems to have been able to get an answer from Apple. So I'm guessing they have absolutely no idea themselves.
I am hesitant to put my username on Facebook back to what it was as Facebook only give you a few chances to change your username, then you are locked.
    I have iOS 7.1.1 installed.
I did have a lot of respect for Apple and their devices as they just worked, but they are becoming tarnished by ignoring what seems to be a growing issue.

I have tried everything and nothing works. When the computer starts it makes weird sounds and also when I try to eject it. Nothing Works! Please Help.

I had that happen with a MacBook. It turned out that the metal case above the slot was slightly bent down.
Putting a flat blade screwdriver in the slot and gently twisting it to move the metal case up allowed it to eject. Don't put it in too far you only want to bend the case not the drive.
The case can get bent down by picking it up with your thumb pressing down on the case above the slot.

  • G5, Airport Extreme, and NO MORE SIGNAL!

ok...I hope someone out there can help me with my issue here. I have a first generation 1.8ghz single processor G5 (900mhz bus) and had it built custom with an Airport Extreme card. I've been running the recent software of everything. Well up until about 3 weeks ago, my connection to my wireless network has been great. I have an Airport Extreme base station.
But now all of a sudden, the card refuses to see my network...well..it's a little more complicated than that. Sometimes it sees it, and sometimes it don't. Right now, I'm connected to the internet via a router connected into the Airport base station, so i haven't had a problem connecting to the internet this way. And all of my wireless computers can still connect via airport. I have a g3 ibook and g3 imac. I also have a powerbook that has no problem connecting to my airport.
What happens when I try to connect is..i'll go to the top right hand corner of the OS..where the bars are. It used to connect automatically, but now no more. Sometimes my network name will be there..sometimes it won't. When it is there, i'll click it, and it'll ask me to enter a password. I'll enter my password and it'll say, "ERROR JOINING....yada yada"....so that's one of my problems...
IF I DO get it it to join the network, i'll have FULL RECEPTION for about 2 seconds, and then watch it dwindle down to nothing....right now it's at 1 bar...and barely holding an IP address...it'll probably disappear soon.
Furthermore, I've taken my Airport card to the Apple geniuses and they've popped it into their powerbooks and it has worked...FLAWLESSLY!
So.....i'm at a loss...i've already tried doing a fresh install of the OS and all that...and I don't know what to do now...
Is it the stupid antenna on the back of the G5? I asked the genius and he said that it's just a piece of metal, so he doubts it has anything to do with that.
If anyone has any answers for this it will greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Kevin, are you running Tiger? [Edit: I see that you are. I missed that when I first posted this.]
I ask because I'm having what sounds like the exact same issue.
I'm running Tiger, with the latest version and everything. I have two computers, a G5 Power Mac and an 867 MHz G4 PowerBook. A couple of weeks ago or so, I ran my regular software update on the PowerBook, which included some kind of Airport update. Ever since, my connection doesn't work properly.
I never ran the latest update on the Power Mac, and it connects to the network just fine. No problem there.
But the PowerBook, sitting on the desk right next to it, loses connection all the time. I'll have full strength, then only one bar. I'll be surfing fine, then suddenly none of my web pages will load, and iChat loses connection. Sometimes, when I wake the PowerBook from sleep, it doesn't see the network and will try to connect to a neighbor's network instead. Other times, it will ask for the network password and then fail to connect. Just now, I had to choose "try again" about 8 times before it finally connected.
I've had this PowerBook for over a year and have never had any problem with Airport before. If it makes a difference, I'm connecting to a Netgear wireless router. What about you? Did your problems start around the time of the latest software update? I noticed a few others in the discussions here mentioning similar problems, and I wonder what we might all have in common.

  • Airport Extreme not connecting to Internet

    Here's my setup:
imac with Airport Extreme in home office
Airport Express hooked up to home ethernet network in family room to stream itunes (or connect laptop at other end of house)
Just got home and tried connecting my work powerbook to the Airport Extreme network, and suddenly it does not work. Basically times out after trying to connect to internet, even though i get full bars signal-wise, and network diagnostic says i should be connected. I can connect to the Airport Express network in the family room just fine. And my internet connection is working fine over the ethernet network.
Has my Airport Extreme bitten the dust? It's showing full bars, but my Canon i960 stopped printing from it the other day. I thought that was just a problem with the printer, but maybe the problem is my base station?
ps running all the lastest software...
Any suggestions? (Tried restarting cable modem, Airport Extreme, computer, etc. No go.
    Thanks for any help.

Hmmm... That's odd that you can't administer the Airport Base Station
from the portable computer (the one you'd later use wirelessly) and
essentially check the thing out thoroughly; see if the firmware and
other things are up to par and the settings are chosen properly.
You'd use the ethernet cable in either case, to access the Base from
the portable or the tower; when you are doing an occasional test and
reset of the Base station. Sometimes, details make a difference.
Another factor may be in how you have the Base station set up to
share internet among computers; the ethernet-only G4 that sees
the through-ported IP dataflow should also be able to administer
the base station. But it may require the Portable, hardwired, to
check the settings and get it to work. I had a similar issue once
with my primary AEBS and had been administering it via a non-
wi-fi B&W G3 tower on ethernet cable; the other computers were
all wi-fi. That worked out great. Currently, I alternately run the iMac
G4 via wireless, and sometimes by wire. I have both set up & ready
and only need to go into the control panel/system preferences; to
make a change. Sometimes the wireless telephone (2.4GHz) is too
close and kills the wireless to my desktop Mac; so I change to wire.
What kinds of addresses are you seeing in your set-up for IP
to each computer? Unless you do actual file-sharing between
them, you can set that up so each computer has a full ISP
address; not those 10.0... or 193.00. or other networking ones.
Sharing a printer is another matter, if you run your AEBS as
    though it were a wireless router only, it would be trial & error;
if set up to be wireless printing you'd probably need to get a
wireless USB module to see if that'd work for the G4.
The deal you are talking about, above, is how the device
works. Your G4 tower sees the internet via the through-port
in the AEBS router; it is a wired & wireless router, plus it
can give you wireless printing because it has a USB port.
But only when it is set up correctly. That is easier to do
    than it is to write about. When mine fails, I look into it;
and as I suggested in other posts, it will just work later.
PS: In your Portable computer's System Preferences/
Network control pane, see what order it shows the
items or pathways available to connect to the net are
in; if the wireless airport isn't at the top of the list &
is not activated, drag it there. The check-boxes by
each option of course, need to be activated as needed.
When you see a signal, it should be able to find the IP
if the other settings were correct. Sometimes, the basic
defaults work OK right out of the box.
In the portable's System Profiler, you could also see if
there is an assigned IP address given to the computer.
At that point, there should be no reason for it to not work.
Like I said, it is harder to write or talk about it; easier to
see the things and work the strings in the right order!

  • WHy won't my new Airport Extreme connect to the Internet?

I can connect no problem using direct LAN cable, but when I try setting up the AirPort, it doesn't work. Green light is on and everything, just fails to connect to the Internet. Very frustrating. My ethernet uses PPPoE, so I tried setting that up in the AirPort, but it won't work then either......Network Diagnostics keeps getting me to the "Internet failed" stage if I try using DHCP, or only to "Network Settings failed" if I try using PPPoE (even though my direct LAN cable works fine on the same settings! Grrrrrr!) Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Stress Test:
Thanks very much for the reply. I've actually sorted out the problem since posting - just a few minutes ago. I reset the AirPort and reconfigured everything in manual mode with the ethernet cord from my computer connected to the AirPort. I then disconnected the ethernet cord, rebooted the modem and AirPort, did a bit more troubleshooting and suddenly I was connected to the Internet! Still not sure exactly what I did that fixed the problem, but everything is working ok now.
    Regards,
    John

  • Airport Extrem doesn t give internet access to my new windows 7

    Hello,
I ve bought an ACER laptop aspire one with windows 7. Its wifi + internet has work fine in airports, hotels and friend s homes, but in my home wiht my Airport Extrem it is impossible to get internet access with wifi ( connection limited indicqted with the yellow triangle ).
The Airport extrem works fine with another mac and others windows XP and vista...using the DHCP.
Ther Airport extrem identify the MAC @ of the aspire one but it seems like DHCP servers doesnt give it an IP@. The log:

Download the very latest driver from the manufacturer of the wireless card.
Make sure you load the airport utility for windows into the computer.. use ethernet to do it.
Intel cards are the worst.. they often have issues.
Remember that windows can move location spontaneously.. it should be home.. not work  not public.
Turn off all the firewalls.. there might be several if you buy a laptop with trial software.
If you continue having issues we need more details of what TC and what firmware it is running.
Change all names in the AEto windows compatible.. never forget Apple names are not going to necessarily work. This includes the AE name and wireless name/s.
Windows names.. short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. (it is a bit broader than that.. but it is easier to stick to the known working subset) Certainly no spaces in the name and no apostrophe as Apple setups seem to create.
Use fixed wireless channels can also help.. with separate names for 2.4ghz and 5ghz.
