Airport Utility KEYCHAIN issues

Since upgrading my airport utility to 5.2.1 I am having the following problems;
After launching the utility and finding the base station I press manual setup and it takes a long time before a UPDATE KEYCHAIN message appears. If I select CHANGE ALL it goes off and thinks about it and may come back a second time. Once base station password is entered correctly the config appears. When I exit the utility the whole machine is crawling and only a reboot returns it to its natural fast state.

i have the same thing happening all the time. any time i open airport utility (i've been having a nightmare trying to get the USB drives connected & working) it hangs f-o-r-e-v-e-r. i get the beachball, not to mention that everything crawls...if it even does that. after shutting down i end up getting messages of something not loading properly when i go to attempt repairing permissions. i have to reboot after a manual shutdown to regain 'normality.' i swear that if i see another instance of this machine asking if i want to update the keychain access because airport utility has been updated, i am going to scream!

  • Airport Utility connection issues

I am running an Airport Extreme with airport express and having trouble connecting my PC. I have no issues with my MacBook or I-phone but when running Airport Utility on XP the Airport Utility can not locate the Extreme or Express. I have tried to connect through cable to the express and wi-fi with no luck and when trying to locate through windows it locates my network then when attempting to connect, I receive a message stating that the network is out of range (while the express is located next to the tower). Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated

didnt mean to enter that yet..
The Airport Extreme is accessable from my XP laptop, and I am connected and using the AE router wirelessly from my Vista laptop, so it is working.
Any ideas how to get the Airport Utility to work? I need access to the USB hard drive and the USB printer.
    Thanks

  • Airport Utility and System Keychain Problem

I'm having a strange issue when trying to access Airport Utility on our imac. When I click on manual update I get a popup box asking for the administrator user name and pass word because Mac OS X wants to use System keychain. When I type those in the boxes and click allow an error message appears saying I typed an invalid password. I've rebooted, I booted up in Safe Mode which asks you for a password before it logs in - no problems there. I didn't try to access AU from there, not sure if that's possible. I've even gone to account settings and changed the password which requires you to enter the current password, that worked. I used the new password with that warning from Airport Utility but got the same error. I went back and changed the password back to the original and tried again, same error.
I don't normally access AU on that computer, I use my laptop and there are no problems there, so I don't know if this is a problem that just cropped up under SL or not. So far that's the only instance of this popping up with that issue. I don't believe I've ever seen it say it needed to access the System keychain before. Another oddity to this is I can open up Keychain Access and click on unlock the System keychain which then asks you for an administrator password, I enter it and it unlocks with no issue. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
    John

Sometimes the Keychain just gets a bit "wonky." The simplest resolve, in most cases, is to delete all entries with the Kind of "AirPort base station password" and "AirPort network password" in the Keychain using the Keychain Access utility.

  • Is anybody else having issues with Software Update Server offering Airport Utility 6.1?

Running 10.7.3. Everything else is hunky dorry, but no matter what I do, I can't get this update to show up to clients.
    Settings are set to:
NOT automatically copy and updates from Apple (but this update shows the blue circle reflecting it's copied)
NOT automatically enabled copied updates (but this update has the checkbox enabled)
DELETE outdated software updates (I had previosly been struggling with Choose Version, but this seems to obviate the need for that)
I've stopped swupd, removed the update, updated the catalog, re-enabled. The catalog updated, the file re-downloaded, but still.... won't show up to clients.
Is this update (Airport Utility 6.1) working for anyone else? Could it be a global issue related to this update, or is this just another instance of swupd flakiness?

You can still use iDVD even though Apple doesn't support it. It still works like a champ.
A lot has changed in the new iMovie. Some of the changes are good, but some not so much. My biggest problem is that the video quality of shared projects is INFERIOR to the old iMovie. So for now, I've gone back to the old version. Hopefully Apple will issue an update that will fix this.

  • Since I upgraded to Lion 10.7.2, my external HD is no longer visible in AirPort utility (in the AirPort disks tab). I also installed the AirPort utility for iOS5, it reported a disk problem, but running Disk Utility on the Mac showed no issues. Help!

To expand on the question, I have performed the following steps:
1 - Unplugged external drive (1TB WD MyBook) from the Time Capsule
2 - Reconnected it. At this point, AirPort utility for iOS5 reported a problem with the disk (Time Capsule light was blinking Orange)
3 - Unplugged external drive, connected it to MacBook Pro, ran Disk Utility. It found no problems (disk visible straight away on the MacBook Pro).
4 - Reconnected to Time Capsule - still doesn't show up under the "Disks" option under Air Port utility. Or rather, the hardware is visible (i.e the physical disk) but not the volume.
5 - I tried another external hard drive, and the volume also doesn't appear in the Disk section under the AirPort utility.
The WD disk is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
This is a big problem for me, as the drive houses my iTunes library.
Anyone else had a similar problem? It all worked flawlessly until last week.

    I love computers.
Have managed to fix this already. Been working the issue for a few days now, and a few minutes after writing the above post I decided to reset the Time Capsule to factory default settings.
After entering all my details again (used same network names, passwords etc) the Time Capsule was rebooted. When it came back on line - guess what? Yep, the MyBook WD drive is now visibile. I can connect via the network from my other machines to the drive, and iTunes is back.
So - thought I would post my resolution in case it helps others.

  • Time Capsule, Sonos, and Airport Utility Issues

I have a new Sonos system that is accessing music on my Time Capsule, to which I copied my whole music folder. It works fine from the handheld controller, however the desktop controller will show the library, but won't show me the Zone Players or allow me to control the system. Can only control from the handheld.
Another problem is while I can access the hard drive on TC, and play music simultaneously on the Sonos, Airport Utility says it can't find any wireless devices (so I can't manually change any settings on the TC), so I can't tinker with its settings and try to get the desktop controller working.
That being said, the Sonos system seems to work wonderfully, main issue seems to be with the computer.
    Anyone have a solution?
    Brett

Thank you for your idea. However, after having imported the setup of the previous TC and having experienced problems, I had already done a factory reset and configured everything from scratch! Without using the profile. So I think we can safely exclude a problem connected with importing the older profile, which was in fact my first idea.
On the other side, I haven't tried your suggestion to give separate names to the 5 and 2,4 GHz wireless signals. I'll try this evening, as a last attempt before sending the TC back to Apple. BTW, I put my old TC back in place, and apart from the fact that the disk is noisy and almost full it works without a glitch. Which makes a software or configuration issue less likely, I believe.

AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion will not support the older versions of the AirPort Express.....model numbers A1084 and A1088. Check on the side of the Express for the model number.
In addition, AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion will not support the older "round" or "dome" shaped versions of the AirPort Extreme.
Can you check to see how your devices might be affected?

  • Discovery issues with airport extreme and issues with airport utility

I lost about 3 hours with connection issues while trying to add a second airport express. The airport Utility couldn't find any of the units anymore. After aging a couple of years and checking lots of forums (many suffered the same problems) I found this link
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1406#
Which seemed to help me reset the units and find them again. Though I can't be certain if it was just luck, the airport utility and detection and resetting of the express and extreme seemed solved.
I would add that this is an area that should be looked at by apple. It is not the first time that I have problems with the airport utility or the extreme.

Check the cabling to the Base Station - make sure the modem is plugged into the Base Station's ethernet WAN port (ie the port labelled with the "circle of dots" icon).
With the modem cabled to the Base Station - pull power to both for five minutes or so. Then plug the modem into power and wait a minute. Then plug the Base Station into power and wait a minute. Then try internet access again.
    If that still doesn't work:
    - on the Mac which can successfully connect to the internet when cabled directly to the modem, tell us what settings are found in System Preferences->Network->Show ethernet built in->PPPoE tab, and under the TCP/IP tab.
    - from either a PC or the Mac connected to the Base Station, run the Airport Admin Utility, select the name of your base station, click Configure, click on the Internet tab. Tell us what settings are found under that tab.

  • So my airport extreme recently had some nat/dns issue and in the airport utility displayed a warning about it and to correct it. I wasn't sure what to do so i pressed the resolve icon and now my guest network is not working.

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

On windows load the airport utility .. latest correct version as possible.. there is no windows 8 but win7 works after a fashion.
Make sure the TC is using SMB compatible names.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Type the name directly into windows explorer.
    \\TCname or \\TCIPaddress
If no luck turn off all the firewalls.. internal windows plus security software plus whatever other gargyoles and other rubbish AV software you have running.
Ensure windows is able to at least ping the TC by IP address and name..
Use the utility in windows to set file sharing to guest account on with full read and write access.. and set workgroup to WORKGROUP.

I have just purchased and installed a new Airport extreme base station but now the Airport Utility cannot see my old Airport Express. Are their compatibility issues and do I need to purchase a new Express?

When you can, take a look at the old AirPort Express and locate the model number in the faint print on the side of the device.
If you see A1084 or A1088, this is an older Express version that is no longer supported by the current version of AirPort Utility that you are using with the new AirPort Extreme.
If that is the case, your Express is at least 6 years old...probably older...so it is about time to treat yourself to a new version with much faster speeds and more features.

  • Issues with Time Capsule (4th gen).. or Airport Utility?

I have som abstract issues with my Time Capsule. After some recent downtime with my ISP I thought I'd start digging around in the Time Capsules settings using the Airport Utility. Thing is though, when/if the TC shows up in the utility and I click it, it spins around at reading my settings for awhile, then I lose the connection to it entirely, it disappears from Airport Utility and I lose WiFi AND ethernet connection for a good five-or-so minutes. The unit still shows a green light.
I have a tiny bit more luck if I use Airport Utility in Windows 8.1 running through Bootcamp. I can click the Time Capsule without it "shutting down" on me and I can restart the unit through the software, but as soon as I try to change any settings or even enter my password to do so, the same thing happens.
This has happened to me in the past around 2012/2013. My first Time Capsule broke down and I had it replaced, the replacement unit did this to me as well, with the addition of WiFi not working at all so I had that replaced for a unit with the same issue... I kept this cycle replacing up and after about four or five Time Capsules I got the one I have right now which I ONCE managed to install and set up properly, but only through Windows and not OSX.
I just don't know what to do. I can't update the firmware because the airport utility can't read the settings properly as mentioned above, so I don't know if this issue is fixed through an update. Is this a common issue with the 4th gen Time Capsule? As I had it (or something like it) happen to four of the four or five units I've had I could guess it is..?
Any tips or hints, some obvious setting in OS X I could have accidentally

    That is quite a story.
The Gen4 up to recently I would say was clearly the best TC they made.. finally got out most of the bugs and it ran cool enough to survive at least the 3years they should. (You cannot hope for too much more in domestic grade routers now).
But there has now come up a heap of strange issues. Mostly the units just die.. but the use of Mavericks is also causing some problems.
It is possible to do this manually even in Mavericks and even using v6 utility.. although IMHO the v5 utility is a lot better.
I hope you have already got a replacement for your TC in terms of network. Anything you do here might remove the settings that work and you will be unable to put them back.. so don't start until you can know that a bypass is possible.
Also I would like you to do this a special way. And we have a problem immediately..
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
You must have ethernet. Do you have another computer with ethernet.. ?? Or can you get a friend to help with a laptop, PC or Mac that still has ethernet. Otherwise you need to buy a Thunderbolt to ethernet adapter which are not too expensive. And well worth having.
You need to factory reset the TC and do this in full network isolation.
So one ethernet LAN port of the TC to the computer. Computer has no internet connection and no wireless on.
    1. Do the factory reset.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    2. Manually setup the TC by ethernet.
I have done this setup with screenshots in this thread. If you would please follow that.. anything you don't follow just ask.

  • Dell computer using an airport utility having connection issues

I'm having issues with our airport utility connecting to the internet throughout the day.  It will be connected and then randomly drop service.  When it does this I check and it says no DSN.  I tried to reset it and start over but it still keeps happening.  I'm not computer "smart"  so I am not sure where to go now with it.  We have comcast as our internet and we have a belkin port adapter so we can hook up additional units to the internet and be "direct" connected not wirelessly.  Can anyone offer some help or advice?
    Thank you!

Add the dns manually to wireless network setup.
In the XP configuration of the TCP/IP for wireless adapter.
Use DNS of 8.8.8.8 or your ISP DNS address not the airport router.

  • Airport Utility 5.6.1 issue in Windows 7

    Hi,
I downloaded Airport Utility v5.6.1 and installed in WIndows 7.I have Time Capsule (4th Gen). After I open the Airport Utilty Iam getting an message "Airport Utility was unable to find any Aiport Wireless Devices...blah blah" Has anyone installed Aiport Utility in Windows 7 and is it working fine? Appreciate your support.

    This is common enough..
Plug the TC into the computer by ethernet.. turn off wireless and do this in full isolation from the network.. so the only thing plugged into the TC is computer.
Set all names to SMB compliant.. Apple uses default names which are difficult for windows.
Names are short.. 2-20 characters .. shorter the better.. great name for TC.. is TC.
    No spaces.
Pure alphanumeric.. no apple apostrophe they love to show ownership I guess.
Fred Blog's big new Time Capsule Might look like a terrific name.. but it is truly awful.
    TRY FBTC.
That includes btw, the TC name and wireless name as well as disk share name.. which by default does comply.. ie data.

  • Airport Extreem/Airport Utility Issue

I have a an Airport Extreem SS#6F6513DGTTF which has never been updated. I purchased this back in about 2007. When I had Airport Utility 5.6.1 I set up the Airport Extreem in my home.
However, once I upgraded my OS the Airport Utility has never been able to access the base station. Also I am unable to install the 5.6.1 utility on my 10.8.5 OS.
What is the work around to be able to access, update firmware, or make changes to this Airport Extreem?

This sounds as if you have one of the old "round" or "dome" shaped AirPort Extremes.
Chances are, there is really no need to update the firmware on this device, since it has been about 8+ years since Apple offered an update for this version.
You can try a workaround to install AirPort Utility 5.6.1 on the Mountain Lion Mac running 10.8.5, if you wish. See this post for details:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22940547#22940547
It seems to work for most users, but any workaround is never guaranteed.
Once you have 5.6.1 installed, you can check to see if there are any updates for the older AirPort Extreme. Post back if you are not sure how to do this, and we will provide the steps.
