Airport utility not reading my new airport express

Hopefully someone out there can guide me...
I purchased an airport express yesterday. I want to extend my network I have an AEBS.
My airport utility, when it scans can not find my express so I can not configure it. I reset everything multiple times.
Also I purchased the express because I wanted to extend my network, and then use a hardline ethernet cable from the express to give internet service to my powerbook g4. is this possible? the sales guys at the apple store could not give me a hard answer has anyone tried it?
thanks

Same problem : the Airport Utility did not show the AX after installing Leopard.
It is weekend: I figured it out
Actually I got 2 Airport extremes( one old, one new) and two AX base stations (one old, one new):
I disconnected the router and the two basestations Extreme.
I did a reset on the AX: , waited for one hour, recommended less
I connected only my new AX , restarted my Mac Book Pro, started AirportUtilty and the AX showed up suddenly.
Then I connected router and my both extremes and they showed also up in Airport Utilty
I followed the instructions:
I selected my ax : chose continue, chose :join existing network: then I put the name of my existing extreme network and password, WEP 2 etc:
Then it said : waiting to intialize the ax:
(this failed many times in former attempts!!!)
This time it worked. no flashing amber anymore: but a green light
Later I did not have problems doing the same for my 5 year old other AX.
What did the trick? I don't know
Posibilities : Waiting for one hour, shut off everything: router ,mac, extremes?
Why did my AX suddenly show up? Starting first with only the AX plugged in ?
All my personal guesses and answers reading posts that it had to do with Leopard, Firewall settings or putting a $ sign before typing password , or WEP2 seem to be irrelevant.
Waiting a while after a reset is recommended by many people: I don´t know if it is necessary or not: maybe not!?
Tell me if this works for you

I added a new custom resource in FIM portal. I added 5 attributes to it. FIMMA refresh schema is not reading the new schema. It says schema is uptodate. I tried IIS reset and even all server restarts. What am I mising?

Did you add the resource to the synchronization filter? I believe it's administration->all resources->synchronization filter. Then do the IIS reset and sync engine schema update. Only resources in that filter can be seen by the sync engine.

Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. Consider buying PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the latest free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in PSE11 (keep your NEF originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)

  • Referenced files in Aperture 3 are not reading from new hard drive.

I just merged one libary into another library on my machine in Aperture 3. Everything seemed to work fine with that. Many of the images in the new large library are referenced images. I had many of them initially referenced onto external drives. I'm not consolidating into one larger drive (with a back up too of course). I copied the files onto the larger drive from the individual external drives. I plugged in the new external drive with all of the photos on it and when I went to locate referenced images in Aperture, I found them, however many times the "reconnect" or "reconnect all" buttons are greyed out when I choose the photo. It's not letting me reconnect the images and they do have the same file names.
I have no idea what to think or do. I don't want to have to plug in all of the old drives to get to the pictures. I want everything on one drive to access my large aperture library that is now all in one place as well.
    Please help!
    Thanks!

    aperture 3
I meant the full version number:
With permissions I meant the following:
You need to have read & write permissions to the files to be able to reconnect the files. To check the permissions, select an original image filein the Finder and press the key combination ⌘I to launch the "Info" panel. In the Info panel disclose the "Sharing&Permissions" brick.
Check if you have Read&Write access to all your image files, also to the folders containing them. If there is a permissions problem, change the permissions to "Read&Write". It would help to set the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag. You'll find this flag in the "Info" panel for your external drive.
But the safest way really to solve this would be to let Aperture relocate the files to your new drive and not to move them manually. Connect the original drives with your original master image files and move the masters by using Aperture's command "Relocate original file". Then their would be no need to reconnect.

  • POA could not read document new storage area path after the storage was moved to another server

We migrate the whole GroupWise with document library to another server. The
server name and IP address are different from the old server. After the
migraiton, all email could be retrieve properly. However, the POA could not
find the storage area during the startup. All paths have been changed to
the new location. The old path message was showed on the NetWare server
screen once the POA is started.
So, I moved back the document library back to the original location and
changed the path in ConsoleOne. The "Path not found message was gone", but
I found the error message in the POA (Indexing only) - "Invalid path C06A".
When user retrieve the document and then save it, it also showed "Invalid
path c06A" and the document could not be returned to library. It still kept
on the temp folder. It occurred most of the document but not ALL.
How can I move the storage area to the new server without this error?
    Thanks,
    Terence

    Dear Dave,
The NetWare version is 6.5.6. The Technote mentioned that I did try

  • IMac disk utility not reading any FAT32/NTFS related partitions/CD/flash drives

    Hi everyone!
I'm trying to access my drives and later on install bootcamp and windows on my iMac. At moment I can only start the iMac in safe mode (long story, if interested check out iMac 27" (late 2009), freezing - List of solutions tried). Any steps taken so far to read and format other drives has been in Safe Mode.
    Problems:
    - any formats except Mac OS X extended gets greyed out in Disk Utility.
    - Not able to read/mount flash drives, external drives or CD's with any other formats.
    Solutions tried:
    - Tried to format using OSX on current iMac, MBP and PC and no change or luck.
    - Tried on other machines and it works great. So it's related to my iMac.
    - Disk Utility try to Mount drive/partition - getting error "The disk "BOOTCAMP" could not be mounted"
    - Installed Paragon NTFS but no difference.
    - Disk Utility no disk error reported
Searched on internet and forums for a solution w/o any luck. Haven't found anyone with similar problems or I'm using wrong keywords. Haven't found any Knowledge Base about other formats is disabled in Safe Mode state so it can't be that either. Below is a picture that shows any other partitions than mac is greyed out.
Any suggestions or anyone encounter with this wierd behavior?

  • Itunes will not read brand new cd

I am trying to get Itunes to play the new Paul Simon Cd "Surprise." After about a minute, my Mac ejects the Cd without playing it or giving me any message. I have an Imac G5 and am running Mac os X 10.4.6. and Itunes 6.04. Never had this problem before. Is there some kind of anti-copying code built into this (and possibly other) cd's? Thanks for any help.
    imac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I'm just glad to know new CD's aren't coming with some embedded code to keep them from playing (and being copied) on computers.
Hmm, if only that were the case. If you live in the USA, you won't see many copy-protected titles. Here in Finland, however, there are a huge number of them. For the most part, Macs handle the discs just fine. However, most of these discs sold here contain intentional flaws (C2 errors) in the actual audio portion of the discs. Even if you "successfully" import these defective discs, the audio will be filled with defects.
In the USA, it seems that when people unwittingly buy copy-protected discs, they return them to the merchant for a refund when they find out they can't rip them or even play them properly. Here, on the other hand, nobody is willing to buy them at all, so they sit on the shelves in the record shops until there is little choice but to mark the price down to about 5€ (the going price for new releases is over 20€).

  • New Airport Express is not discoverable by Airport Utility

    Hello,
After searching the forums for a while and not finding any posts that really address the issue I'm having, I've finally decided to create my own post.
I received a brand new Airport Express from my girlfriend for Christmas. I've finally gotten some time to set it up, but I seem to be having some issues with Airport Utility even seeing it. I haven't even been able to set it up because I can't access it. Airport Utility simply says that it cannot find any Apple Wireless devices and continuously asks me to rescan.
The first time I plugged in the Airport Express, it flashed the green light once like it's supposed to, then the light turned to solid amber for a couple of minutes, then started blinking. It still does this even after I do a factory reset.
Very rarely Airport Utility will see it, but it takes a lot of rescans before it finally does. When Airport Utility does finally see it after several rescans, I enter manual setup, enter my information and click Update. After I click update, I'm no longer able to connect to the Airport Express at all until I do a factory reset. Then it takes a lot of patience and several more rescans until I can finally connect again.
I first placed it directly below my desk, but have since tried many other locations throughout the house to see if it was location that was the problem. That is not the issue.
The intention is to have it join my current wireless network, so I do not have an ethernet cable plugged into it. I've tried plugging one in, but with the exact same results (Airport Utility still can't see it).
Any ideas as to what may be the problem?
    Thank you!

If AirPort Utility is still having trouble "seeing" the Airport Express (AX), temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the AX. You may need to move the AX close to your computer for this and restart both your computer and the AX.
Once you have the AX configured, you can move it back to the desired location.
So I am able to connect to the Airport Express via an ethernet cable and configure it like that, but I am still unable to connect to it wirelessly. I wonder if there could be something wrong with the unit itself? After configuring it, I can't even see it in the Airport menu on the menu bar on top.
    Any other suggestions?

  • I got a new imac and the airport utility does not work with my older airport express. What can I do???

How can I get my new iMac to see my old Airport Express so I can play my music to a remote speaker?

Move the Mountain Lion version of Airport Utility to the Trash. Airport Utility is located in the Utilities folder.
Kappy, you cannot move AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion to the trash in a normal way. Apple will not let you do this.....It is part of the Mountain Lion operating system....and cannot be modified or trashed.

just installed a new time capsule and i want to use my airport express to extend my wireless range....time capsule working with existing devices at this time...but i am not able to get airport utility to recognize the airport express.....????

Temporarily connecting your AirPort Express to one of the Time Capsule's Etherent LAN <-> ports...as LaPastenagure suggests....is always a good way to setup and configure other network devices.
If you want to configure the Express using wireless, remember that the Express broadcasts a default wireless signal with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx. You must log on to this network first....no password is required....then open AirPort Utility to "see" the AirPort Express.

  • I have a new internet service provider and router and need to re-connect to my airport express. However, Airport Express is not showing up. Also, when I launch Airport utility (new and 5.6), it shows no available devices. What am I doing wrong?

    iMac (2008), 10.7.5
    Airport Express (2008)
    Comcast wifi router

The AirPort Express must be reset back to factory default settings first, and then reconfigured again.
    To reset the AirPort......
    Power off the device
    Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button first, then continue to hold the reset button in for an additional 10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the AirPort back into power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Try using AirPort Utility 5.6 now to see if it will "see" the AirPort so that it can be set up again.
If you are using AirPort Utility 6.x, you must first click on the Other WiFi Devices tab, then click on AirPort Express to start the setup wizard

  • AirPort Utility can't find Netgear router OR new AirPort Express

    Hello,
I couldn't find my situation fully addressed in older posts, so I'm posting one myself.
I am trying to EXTEND my current network with a newly purchased AirPort Express. My equipment is as follows:
Comcast modem connected via ethernet cable to...
    Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 dual-band router
One three-year-old Mac Mini running Lion
One newer MacBook Pro running Mavericks
Two iPhone 4S, latest software updated as of Nov. 2014
Two-year-old iPad, latest software updated as of Nov. 2014
Newly purchased AirPort Express as of Nov. 2014
We have a large house with an office at the extreme end resulting in a week signal, so I need to extend my network. The Netgear router sends a strong signal otherwise, and ALL devices are working properly and are fully connected to the WIFI network.
    So here is the problem:
I've tried many, many times to connect the APE using AP Utility with only two successful connections, but these connections were to "Join Existing Network" not to extend that network, but I selected this option as it seemed closest to what I want to do since "extension" of network was not an option. Then I see that I can edit the APE within AP Utility. I've done so, resetting the unit as a network extender, and the two times I tried this I sat waiting for five minutes for the thing to update only to get an error message. At this junction I could do nothing but remove the APE in AP Utility by "forgetting" it. No other options were available that I could see.
Now, the two times I've done the above, were two times within 20+ attempts to get AirPort Utility to even see the darn thing. I've tried placing the APE near the Netgear router, moderately close (other side of room) and even at the far end of the house, and neither the APE or the Netgear router were ever found in the AP Utility save the two incidences mentioned above. I've scoured the net, rechecked all connections and performed all troubleshooting procedures I can find to no avail. All I get is a flashing amber light and no connection
A: Why won't AirPort Utility find my Netgear Router?
B: Why won't AirPort utility find my AirPort Express?
C: Why, on the two occasions the AP Utility did find the APE, did it not give me the option anywhere to set it up as an EXTENDER to the current network?
D: Is there any other way to add the APE to my network as desired without using AP Utility? (I do have the Negear Genie app, but I don't see options for adding a device for network extension so far)
I'm at wits end. Can anyone help?
Oh, and I've tried using AP Utility on both Macs listed above with the same results.
    Thanks for your help!

A: Why won't AirPort Utility find my Netgear Router?
AirPort Utility works only with an Apple router, as does the utility for a Netgear work only with a Netgear router.
B: Why won't AirPort utility find my AirPort Express?
Any of 3-4 common reasons. We'll have to work on troubleshooting that.
C: Why, on the two occasions the AP Utility did find the APE, did it not give me the option anywhere to set it up as an EXTENDER to the current network?
Apple designed the wireless "extend" feature on their routers to only work with other Apple routers.
D: Is there any other way to add the APE to my network as desired without using AP Utility?
    No
Not sure how you want to proceed at this point. It might be possible to use the AirPort Express to extend the Netgear network if you connect it using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection back to the Netgear router.
If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, your best bet by far is to use another Netgear extender or repeater, which would likely be compatible with your Netgear router.

  • 2008 Airport Express utility doesn't work all of a sudden, name reverted to ID, lost security, message not supported.

The Airport Express I purchased in 2008 worked fine this morning, but when I tried to use Wi-Fi with my cell phone and iMac the light was green on the AE but no signal.  I unplugged AE and unplugged my modem, plugged in my modem, plugged in my AE, it turned green but no signal - that is, the name I had given it did not appear on either my iMac of cell phone.  Then, out of the blue, the original ID for my AE shows up on the iMac and phone and when I selected it my Wi-Fi worked, and is working.  The problem is there now is no security.  I got a message that Airport Utility did not support or something like that.  So then I took the old CD that came with AE (in 2008) and loaded that on my iMac so I could re-establish WPA security.  It seemed to load okay but then the following message popped up, "AirPort can't be installed on this disk [my Macintosh HD]. The version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported."  Well, yes, since I'd purchased my AE I'd gone through all the cats and recently had upgraded to Mountain Lion, 10.8.5, several weeks ago.  But since this morning I had done nothing new.
So, it's 12:30am, Apple Care is not open - I'm not even sure I'm still covered - so maybe some night owl out there can tell me what I need to do.  I'm beginning to suspect it might have to do with my operating system upgrade, but don't understand why this problem should suddenly crop up after several weeks.  Any ideas out there?  Oh, and incidentally, my AE was cutting off a lot about a year ago and I took it into an Apple Store and they did something with the software in the device and the cutting off improved but still would occur at least twice a week - something I just lived with.

Then, out of the blue, the original ID for my AE shows up on the iMac and phone and when I selected it my Wi-Fi worked, and is working.
My first thought is that the AirPort Express is normally good for 4-5 years on average, so you may be getting some signals in that regard.
The AirPort Express reset itself back to factory default settings. The big question now is if you re-configure it again whether it will hold those settings.  Not likely....my opinion.
The other problem that you have is that Mountain Lion operating system no longer supports the older version of the AirPort Express that you have.
Oh, and incidentally, my AE was cutting off a lot about a year ago and I took it into an Apple Store and they did something with the software in the device and the cutting off improved but still would occur at least twice a week
It's really time for a new AirPort Express, which will offer much faster reliable performance....and it will be compatible with AirPort Utility on the Mountain Lion operating system.
