Alerts broken after redeploy of Cloud Service?

I've been experimenting with Alerts since they were released into Preview and really like the idea. I have however had enough trouble with them that I am losing faith in their effectiveness. It seems like each time I go into the Alerts section of the Azure
Portal I find my alerts are broken yet again in some way. Right now all 10 of the alerts I have defined are showing errors when I view the dashboard page. These are alerts I deleted and re-created a few weeks ago because they were broken back then for some
unknown reason. Now when I go into the dashboard for any alert I see at the top this error:
Error: Could not find the resource that is defined for this alert rule. Verify that the resource still exists.
If I try and edit the alert I see this at the top of the edit popup:
Could not retrieve the metrics for (microsoft/compute/hostedservices/{mydeploymentname}/deployments/{mydeploymentid}) because the resource was not found. Verify the resource exists and then try again.
I suspect the problem is that we are deploying new builds of our Cloud Service every few weeks. We use the VIP Swap approach so we get new deployment ids each time. It would be completely unworkable for me to have to re-create alerts each time we redeploy.
Can anyone on the Alerts team speak to this issue? I am sufficiently frustrated with alerts now that I just may stop trying to use them.

I ask that you all try to expedite this.  I am having to look at third party tools to accomplish this when the ability is there in the Portal.  It's just not working as it should for VIP swaps.
Also, it may be worth noting that I recently got several alerts that a Cloud service no longer had monitoring data available and could not autoscale.  It makes me wonder if that could have also been due to monitoring being tied to the deployment ID
(but maybe not).
I have heard that this will likely be resolved in the next 2 months though I know Microsoft can not commit to that.  I do ask that you do everything possible to tie this to the slot rather than the deployment ID that can change.
Thanks!

  • Azure Cloud Service Stuck in "Stopping" state for a long time (12 hours)

Does anyone have suggestions what to do with the issue I have. I tried to stop my Cloud Service the service is now basically stuck in "Stopping" State and been there over 12 hours. In my Cloud service there is 16 Virtual Machines I am using in
    testing.
I tried to start Cloud Service but it also failed with error "Could not start the virtual machine deployment.".
Is there something I could do or some way to get Microsoft Support (without paying extra)? I have "Visual Studio Premium with MSDN" so i have no other support but billing from Microsoft :(

Managed to find the solution. I stopped and deallocated all the Virtual Machines. After that the Cloud Service status changed to stopped state. After that it was possible to start the Cloud Service again.

  • Windows Azure Cloud Service Downtime alert

    Hi,
One of the Cloud services that we have deployed on Windows Azure Cloud services using Azure Worker role is unexpectedly transitioning to Stopped state. There doesn't appear to be any valid reason behind this  and it runs normally after we switch to
    running state from portal.
Is it possible to develop some alert service which informs the Administrator or configured alert users that the Cloud service has shut down ? We tried to configure the Windows Azure alert but the metrics & logging doesn't seem to match with Cloud service
downtime. Please let us know what is the diagnositics or logging option which we should make use to come up an optimal design for the Alert system.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
From my experience, several operations in the Service Management API permit you to manage your cloud service either by referencing a deployment by its deployment name, or by referencing the deployment environment (staging or production) in
which the deployment is running. Refer to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/ee460812.aspx for more information about Operations on Cloud Services, we can do lots of things via this API, in “Get Cloud Service Properties” section, it has a “RoleInstanceList” property, refer to
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/ee460806.aspx#bk_roleinstancelist for more information about
RoleInstanceList. In this article it has PersistentVMDowntime property, the detail information as following.
    PersistentVMDowntime
Specifies information about when the Virtual Machine has been started and stopped.
The PersistentVMDowntime element is only available using version 2012-03-01 or higher.
Hope this helps, if this didn’t give you help, please feel free to let me know.

  • Cloud Service Monitor Alert Can't be Created

    Hi Team,
we had a cloud service deployed at Azure North Ireland Data Center,
i would like to create monitor for the role instance, but when creating alert it shows an error, and the alert can't be created.
    thanks in advance

    Hello Baker,
    Thanks for posting here!
I reproduced the issue on my system it works fine for me.
As per the description provided what I have understood is that the configuration did not go successfully or could be a problem in execution.
Delete the configuration and try to reconfigure the Alerts.
Sometimes it could be the browser issue. Try deleting cache and cookies and then try again or try with different browser.
If it doesn't work, I suggest you could try to deploy a new cloud service and the try to configure the Alerts.

  • Is there a way other than redeployment to migrate existing Cloud Services from one data center to another?

We have a need to correct affinity of Cloud Service, Azure DB, Storage and Mobile Services such that they are on a singl datacenter and do not get impacted by network latency when these components communicate with each other. Also to distribute various environments
across different data centers we need to realign some environments to mitigate all environments getting impacted if there is outage.
Existing Cloud Services and related Service Bus queues and topics need to be moved to a different datacenter. Is there a way to do this without having to redeploy cloud services (web and worker roles) or recreate the service bus entities (queues and topics)?
Also, the existing Cloud Service URL need to be retained without with user authentication won't be possible and hence when completed, the new cloud service should have the same URL.
Please provide best available options for achieving this or ask question if more information is needed.

    Hi sumeetd,
As far as I know, currently there is no directly way to move services from one data center to another unless redeployment. You could submit a feature suggestion via this page (http://feedback.azure.com/forums/34192--general-feedback
). And at the same time, you could contact with azure support team via the channel below:

  • After downloading i-clouds I keep receiving a no service message and could not activate iphone. it says the iphone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. i have read several threads with the same but no solution

after downloading i-clouds I keep receiving a no service message and phone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable.
I have read several questions on this but dont see a solution.

Activation requires a SIM, assuming the SIM is functional it should simply activate.
The vast majority of activation issues are the result of devices that have been hacked or jailbroken.  If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

    Hello,
    I have the same problem.
I have above mentioned TV since 3 months So far, everything was wonderful.
Yesterday an update is installed automatically.
After that all stations were adjusted and I no longer get into the cloud menu.
So if I press the button with the "house", nothing happens.
Wi-Fi is enabled and network test was successful. The Red button also works. So I'll be over in the individual libraries.
Three times I set back the TV .Without Success.
Once I was able to get into the cloud menu. When I went out of it and want into the menu again nothing happened.
I also can not access the contents of my USB flash drive.
    The latest firmware is installed.
    Did someone have an idea?

  • WCF Service hosted in Azure Cloud Service errors after published

I have a project with several WCF services (mix of REST and SOAP).  The project has been running On-Prem for 6 months without an issue.  We are moving this to Azure but have run into an issue that will prevent us from going live.
The project uses Autofac for it's IOC.  We are gonig to host this in a Cloud Service in Azure.  Everything appears to work correctly when running locally in the Azure Emulator however once we deploy using the Cloud Service project, everything builds
and deploys correctly, but we receive the following error when trying to access a service.
    Server Error in '/' Application.

    RouteTable.Routes.Add(new ServiceRoute("Event/Calendar", new AutofacWebServiceHostFactory(), typeof(CalendarSvc)));
All of this works fine in IIS and the local Azure emulator, but once deployed to the cloud service is where we get an issue.

I don't know Autofac. What is it doing? If you use a normal WCF REST service, or ASP.NET Web API, do you see the same issue? If it does work, you may want to post a question on Autofac's forum:
    https://github.com/autofac/Autofac/issues.

This used to work fine but lately when i do the first swap the management portal keeps on saying transitioning - sometimes for 30 minutes or more!

  • Windows requiring activation on Cloud Services

With recent deployments of our cloud service I noticed that after a few days Windows displays an alert for activating it from Action Center (visible when connecting through RDP). This in itself is strange, but it gets worse: when I try to activate it it
says that activation can't be carried out, see this screen shot:
The event log is not very helpful, the relevant entry there says "The client has sent an activation request to the key management service machine.
    Info:
    0xC002001C, 0x00000000, kms.core.windows.net:1688, 7eac794e-4217-409b-a14a-bb366918df85, 2014/02/25 16:00, 1, 5, 0, d3643d60-0c42-412d-a7d6-52e6635327f6, 5".
What can I do? It would be inconvenient to have downtime because Windows activation fails.

  • Monitor Cloud service instances

    Hi,
    I have two questions:
    - is it possible to monitor the Cloud Service Instance past states, like when its restarted, and if this restart was from an error, in windows server i know it give the ability to create memory dump files, is this applicable in Azure, and if it is applicable
    is it recommended ?
    - in any way is it possible that Cloud service automatically roll bock it self and get an earlier version from the deployment, what i mean if we deployed a release 1.2 to cloud service and then after a few day we deployed release 1.4 is there any possibility
that the cloud service roll back last deployment and redeploy release 1.2 ?? consider that 1.4 release deployed and been stable for 2 -3 days.
    Thanks,
    Khalid Abdlqader.

    Hi,
As far as I know, we could get the roll past state from azure operation logs, refer to
http://blog.ict.eu/2013/04/windows-azure-operation-logs/ for more information about the details, operation Logs is a Windows Azure Management portal feature which allows you to view historical
logs of all Create/Update/Delete (CUD) operations performed on your Azure services.
Please note, we usually define at least two instances of a role for that role running without downtime, if there are some issues in one of the role instances, Azure Fabric Controller will perform a roll back for this instance, and this issue
will be fixed automatic, details on Rollbacks can be found here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/windowsazure/hh472157.aspx#RollbackofanUpdate. If we do some change to this cloud service, such as redeploy a new version application, this cloud service will running with this new version, cloud service roll back
will not let this applicaiton reback to the old version, if we only do something in azure cloud service instance, after the roll back, the changes we have made will disappear.

  • Cloud Services Swaping BUG

I don't know how to submit a bug for the Azure team.
The bug is very easy to be reproduced. Simply deploy a PRODUCTION and STAGING instances to a Cloud Service.
after some time do a redeployment again.
Now at the DASHBOARD tab in the management portal click SWAP to swap the VIP addresses, You will found that Deployed field is totally wrong.

Base on my description, I try to reproduce as your step, deploy a PRODUCTION and STAGING instances to a Cloud Service>> after some time deploy to staging again, the deploy process as following screenshot, but I didn’t reproduce the

  • Upgrade your Cloud Service deployments to newer Guest OS families in 15 days.

I got this message from Microsoft. I upgraded my roles regarding this note. I still have a few deployments running I use for demonstration purposes. These are also affected by the OS Upgrade. Unfortunately, I don't have the code base anymore so I am not
    able to redeploy.
Question: will these remain to after June 2?
The Azure Guest operating system (Guest OS) family 1.x based on the Windows Server 2008 operating system is being retired. Effective June 2, 2014, you’ll
no longer be able to deploy new Cloud Services or manage your existing Cloud Services on Guest OS family 1.x.

    Hi,
Have you tried to update Guest OS from the azure portal? If you have not changed the OS version from your code and
ServiceConfiguration file, you could change it from azure portal. I suggest you could try those steps:
1.Log into the Azure Management Portal.
2.On the left pane choose Cloud Service, then choose the name of the service you want to modify.
3.Choose Staging or Production as appropriate. You need to configure each deployment independently.
    4.Choose CONFIGURE.
5.At the bottom of the page, find the operating system section.
The version of the Guest OS you are running for this Cloud Service is identified by the OS FAMILY and OS VERSION drop downs. A value of Automatic means that you are running the latest version of the chosen OS FAMILY. A value of Retired OS or something similar
means you are manually configured to use an older version of the Guest OS that is no longer supported.
If you do not take action at some point, your service will be force upgraded to a later Guest OS.
6.In OS FAMILY, select the operating system family you want to run.
7.In OS VERSION, select the version of the Guest OS you want to run. Set this value to Automatic to receive the latest Guest OS release for that operating system family as it becomes available. Setting it to any other value fixes that deployment
to use only that version of the Guest OS. You will need to manually reset this value in the future in order to update the Guest OS.
    Also, you could see this
    document.
    Please try it.
    Hope this helps.
