Alternate UOM For indirect purchasing

Hello Experts,
It is possible to maintain alternative Unit of Measurement for indirect purchasing ie without material master?
Our issue is we need to receive Purchase Orders from SRM, where the Int UoM is different from R/3. Commercial unit and ISO Code are same. (R/3 - ZDI (Com SU, ISO: DI) and (SRM - SU(Com: SU, ISO: DI). While processing in SRM this throws an error what Internal UoM SU not maintained. As per our analysis, Int UoM must also be same in both SRM and R/3.
It is difficult to change UoM in R/3 as we have lot of PO's which are open and our landscape is huge.
One option we think might work if we can maintain alternative unit of measurement somewhere? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rohit Garg

before you start using lower case units read OSS Note 789748 - No lowercase letters for unit of measurement IDs
And even this will not stop your problem as Com,Tech units are External units.
BM305 Unit & is not created in language &
the message cleary refers to a certain language, which is usually listed in the message.
So I think is just a translation issue.
Use SE16 at table T006A to see if you missed a translation.  Fiield MSEH3 has the commercial unit, MSEHI is the internal unit.

  • Alternate UoM for Production

    Dear All,
I have maintained alternate UoM for Production in material master work scheduling view.
The ratio is 1000 KG (Production Unit) : 1 EA (Base Unit). Before starting the production the weight estimate is 980 KG for a particular production order, but Base unit remains as 1EA. So in Production order the moment I make the Production amount as 980KG it is changing the Base unit quantity to 0.98 EA. I have different production orders where the ratio becomes different. Somewhere it might be 980Kg and somewhere it becomes 1020KG.
I cannot change the UoM in material master everytime. Please suggest how to resolve this.
    Thanks
    Geravine

    Hi!,
For this scenario you need to implement batch specific unit of measure where you can change the wieght of each produced batch while keeping the base unit value same. Here system will ask for conversion factor for the recieved batch at the time of GR. So you can store for example, one batch with relation 1 EA = 980 KG while the other as 1 EA = 990 KG.

  • Alternate UOM for condition type

    Dear All,
My client requirement is to give the different unit for the charges(Cutting charge, machining charges) applicable on the material which is being ordered in the PO.
    For example :
In a PO of the steel plate (order unit is in EA), vendor takes the cutting charges on the basis of UOM "squre inch".
and for machining charges on that steel plate , it takes on the basis of UOM " number of hours" of machine worked on that particular plate.
so for the above 2 charges I have created 2-2 different condition types , with the Calculation type of "B"-Fixed amount and "C"- qty based in each case.
and I am unable to give the condition values as per the client requirement .
I thought of taking use of Altr condition value routine in the pricing procudure , but unable to think a logic.
    Please help!!!
    Thanks & Regards
    NC

In the PO condition, you can put different price per unit of measure for different condition type. This UOM can be different than Base unit of measure. However you have to put conversion between the two UOM in material master Basic Data 1 field.
Pl try this & revert back, if any further query.

  • Base qty UOM for BOMs

    Hi
I am creating  a BOM for  material M1 with a component C1. For M1 I cannot change the base qty unit of measure. It defaults to the base unit of measure as defined in the Material Master of M1. Is there a way I can use a alternate UOM for M1 in the BOM?
    thanks a lot

    Dear Mr.John,
<b>The Unit of measure given in material master will be taken while creation of BOM.</b>
<u><b>Even if u have manitained some unit of Issue in the material master for the same material, this wont be considered by the system.</b></u>
So if you want to change the unit of measure,it can be done only in material master.
<b>But if there exists stock or some open order quntity u can't change the unit of measure and the system throws you an error message.</b>
    For Eg:
The base unit of measure cannot be changed; choose "Display errors"
    Message no. M3189
    Diagnosis
You wanted to change the base unit of measure. However, you can do so only under certain circumstances, including the following:
    •     If there are no stocks of the material in the current period and in the previous period
If there are stocks in the previous period, you can clear them as follows:
    a) Post the stock in the previous period to the current period (for example, using movement type 561) so that the stock for the previous period is the same as the stock for the current period.
    b) Clear the stock with the posting date in the previous period (for example, using movement type 562).
    •     If no purchase requisitions, purchase orders, or scheduling agreements exist for the material
    Procedure
Choose Display errors to see why you cannot change the base unit of measure for this material.
The pushbutton Display errors appears only in dialog mode, not in data transfer or in mass maintenance. If this message appears in data transfer or in mass maintenance, and you want to know why the base unit of measure cannot be changed, access the material in dialog mode using the relevant transaction below, try to change the base unit of measure as required, and then choose Display errors:
If I'm wrong please correct me Mr.Nandha.
Reward points and close the thread.

  • Mass Deletion of Alternate UOM from MARM Table

    Hi,
We plan to remove some of the alternate UOM for few thousand materials. We would like to delete them in mass. We could remove the UOM conversion factors using mass maintenance. But the alternate UOM stays in the UOM table MARM. Is there any BAPI or IDOC available to handle this using LSMW? Has anyone come across this requirement before? If you have any input, it will be really appreciated.
    Cheers !

  • More than one UOM for an item in sales and quotation

    Dear all,
I am facing a problem with n# UOM and hope to explain to you and see if anyone can resolve my problem.
    Case:
We have sales item (non-inventory) selling in different prices with different UOM.  We could not afford to create one UOM with one item code, it will be very, very huge and un-manageable.  (max 3 types of uom for each item but we have more than 20K of items...)
Next we may set up different type of price list as according to UOM.
    Question:
    1)  How can we relate the price list to UOM at sales quotation, order time?  As each BP only relate to one price list file at a time.
    2)  In one quotation, we can quote same item but different UOM with different price (more than 1 line appear), how to auto read the price by different price list file at that time?
Hope to hear from you .
    Thank you and regards,
    Joan.

    Hi Joan
This is not possible in standard SAP Business One as it caters for 2 levels only (Purchasing/Sales UOM). There is a POS add-on that does cater for this but you will need to purchase the whole add-on, otherwise you will need SDK development to achieve this.
    Kind regards

  • Error Message while entering alternate UOM in BOM, despite being maintained

    Hello PP Angels,
I wish for a solution for this issue.
When I am creating a  BOM,
while entering the line item, with a material number,
when I enter  the UOM for the material, which is the alternate UOM maintained in the material master (already)
I am still getting this error message
"Unit of measure DKG not supported for material XXXXX in plant XXXX"
Wishing for a solution at the earliest.

    Hi,
Thanks for the replies, but my issue is not yet solved.
    I have checked that earlier
    It works that way
But my issue is i have data ( in a different server), such that
the bom is accepting a UOM that is defined in the Alternate UOM and not maintained as the Unit of Issue.
I am trying to replicate the same thing here but when I add an alternate UOM, which is not in Unit of Issue, then error message is thrown while bom creation.
Are any configs to be checked
    Awaiting more responses.
    Thanks

  • Substitution / alternate materials in a purchase order

    Hi
    We have a requirement:
We have in our business  substitute or alternate materials for some materials. That is  Material X can be used in place of  Y and so on.  There are atleast 3000 such materials.
What we need  is a way to prompt the users while creating PRs or Purchase orders that this substitution / alternate material exists when he tries to create a PR for the material X.
So when the user enters material X in the PR or PO ; the system should prompt the user preferably with a POP UP saying that there is an alternative or alternatives (sometimes there could be even Z which is the 2nd alternative) and which are in stock. So the user can decide  whether or not to proceed.  An informed deciion can be made at that time.

  • Using more than one Alternate UOM

    Hello All
I am using Product Qty Management functionality of SAP for a FG, whose Alternate UOM are SQM, MTR & NOS, & Base UOM is KG, I have set valuation for SQM & defined SQM as Leading Batch-specific UOM. When am doing GR I am entering the goods in SQM as "Unit of Entry" & am defining the KG as well during GR, i.e. am having a relation of 1SQM = 4.16KG, but at the time of GR the value comes out to be 10SQM = 43.75KG i.e. 1SQM = 4.375KG. The system incorporates this change in relation betwen different UOM & passes the new value of conversion to the characteristic I used in Batch Classification.
This all goes well & when am overviewing the stock, system also displays Sales Order Stock as 43.75 KG or 10SQM. My problem is that when am displaying the GR document the system shows Unit of Entry in Base Unit rather than Sales Unit, i.e. system shows Unit of entry as 43.75KG rather than 10SQM.
When I deleted other Alternate UOMs MTR & NOS & then i did the GR for the same value i.e Qty in Unit of Entry as 10SQM & Qty in SKU 43.75KG, the system incorporated the changes for this again & in addition when i displayed the posting document system showed Unit of entry as 10SQM rather than 43.75KG as it was doing when other Alternate UOMs were present.
This behaviour of system I am unable to understand, wherein the system shows stock in both Units viz SQM & KG but while displaying the GR document it shows KG for both, "Qty in Unit of entry" & "Qty in SKU". Looking forward to your valuable inputs & guidance.

  • Commitment for inventory purchase

    Hello experts,
our customer it is requesting us to manage commitment not only with direct consumption purchases but also with inventory purcahses. I found that the inventory account can be set as "Cost Element Category" = 90 Statistical cost element for balance sheet.
It seems that with this category I can manage a statiscal cost for balance accounts (such as the inventory account). But the thing is that in order to get this statistical cost I need to assign an account assingment category and a cost allocation object in the purchase order so that  I can allocat the statistical cost in the order (as this is the requirement from the customer).
My question is, for sure this is something I can get using account assignment category "Q" and projects. But is it possible to achieve the same result by using "F" and orders??
In thi end, the requirement from the customer is to manage commitment for inventory purchases.
    Best regards

    Thank you for the information.
For anyone that has a problem creating balance sheet cost elements in the future please refer to SAP Note 75980.
This Note provides guidance on error KS036 that stops a cost element from being created from a balance sheet account.    The Note gives steps to remove error message KI098 which indirectly deactivates message KS036 to allow a cost element to be created.

  • STO Accounting entries for indirect costs

    Hi experts,
    I have following scenario:
    Plant A
    Quantity Update
    Plant B
    Value/Quantity Updatae
Then I create STO from plant A to Plant B. Include Indirect costs. No accounting entries is getting generated at goods issues nor goods receipt. System allows me to introduce invoice for indirect costs through miro. However, it doesn't propose the values as it happens in purchase orders.
Is there anything in custominzing I am missing.
    Thanks.

But that's not the standard behaviour (i know it's strange, I made that error myself in the past).
Remove the K, and the system will make the posting to the cost element defined in OKB9.

  • Unit of Measure(UOM) for PO and Packing

    Dear all,
we have got issue about UOM for Purchase order and Packing.
When we create PO with vendor then we use UOM is  set for example: sofa.
but when we GR from Vendor  the storekeeper check artice follow UOM is Set. (packing).
    pls help us

    Dear,
Basing on your post - your stock keeping unit is SET.
    Purchase order is SOFA.
Go to material master and maintain basic UOM as SET and Order unit as SOFA.
Whenever you are raising PO using this material, the PO UOM will be SOFA. Maintain the conversion factors if applicable.
One more way in PR - Source of supply tab you can mention purchase organization and order unit as SOFA (this wihthout making changes in material master). But everytime create PR indentor has to pay attention towards this entry.

  • ISO UoM vs USA UoM for SO and Transfer Order

    Hi to All,
I've an issue  that I must resolve urgently!!!  So, I hope in your precious advices.
Case: Customer Model: Holding with european company codes and americans ones.
The corporate is an Italian Company. So, Materials Master Data are created centrally at Italian Company; consequently the Base Unit of Measure in which stocks of the material are managed (Master Data: view Basic data 1) is expressed in ISO UoMs( Kg, dm3....).
I have the necessity to use also american UoMs so I've created in Additional Data -> Unit of Measure  alternative TU and CU using USA  UoMs for the dimensions (lb, "3....) in corrispondence to europeanTU and CU.
I can use them on Sales Order, and Transfer Order with type ZT02 STO Cross Company but I can't use them for ZT01 STO from APS: Transfer order intra- company becouse as default the Base Unit of Measure is used.
Does it exist a way to convert the Base Unit of Measure expressed in ISO UoMs to USA UoMs for dimensions without modyfing the Base Unit of Measure set in Master Data: view Basic data 1?
    Thanks in advance
    Roberta

    Hi,
If you want to create any transaction with only alternative unit of measure  you don't active variable active unit of measure in purchasing view of material master. In this field take not active.
    Variable Active unit:
When you required to create any transaction with both unit of measure  base unit and alternetive unit of measure you active it and if you want to create transaction with only alternative unit you don't active it.
NOTE: - In case of Purchase order system take order unit of measure(In Purchasing view) and for stock transfer order take unit of issue(Plant Data1) - If variable active unit is off.

  • Filling a characteristic with quantity of MIGO for a purchase order

    Hi everyone,
    I have the following issue.
I have a class Z_BATCH and an assigned characteristic Z_BATCH_LENGHTS.
My material has a UoM in "mm" and the class is assigned to it.
What I want to do, is to automatically fill the characteristic Z_BATCH_LENGHTS according to the quantity that is entered during MIGO for a purchase order for example. I tried to define the refereence field in the characteristic definition using GOITEM-ERFMG or MSEG-ERFMG but without success.
So my question is, how can I automatically fill the quantity into the characteristic?
    Thank you!

Done by using an user-exit in MIGO to fill the lenghts to the characteristics.

  • Good receipt for indirect material using MIGO

Hi all, our company has a trouble in receiving PO for indirect material.
We would use the MIGO transaction for these order but withouth having an inventory movements (since they are indirect material)
I don't know how normally these PO are managed, if we're using a wrong process or we need a customization of the normal procedure.
thanks in advance for any help

If you want to track Inventory then you need the material code & Quantity updating to be managed for those material type in OMS2 , If you are doing purchase without any Material code & against the cost center then those items directly get consumed after GRN, So now you have to decide which process you want to follow , Normally both are Standard Process.
