Alternative valuation for projects

Hello everyone,
We have a multiple ledger set-up, where we copy actual values to a plan version, run distributions and allocations, calculate plan prices for activities and finally run the AVR cockpit. In this way, COGS and stock values for non-project production are determined for this parallel ledger.
However, in addition to discrete manufacturing, we also have ETO projects. These projects collect material and activity costs and WIP is calculated and posted for them. I presume the AVR cockpit takes care of material costs, but how does one go about applying activity plan prices to projects and calculating and posting WIP for them in the parallel ledger?
Thanks.

Hi Djamel ,
1. Purpose of Material Ledger Run (CKMLCP) is to calculate actual cost of the product .. and you can update material master with actual cost ( optional step).SAP uses weighted average methord when calculating actual cost.
2. Purpose of Alternate Valuation Run (CKMLCPAVR) is to have a actual cost for analysis purpose . You can use weighted average methord or use can use FIFO , LIFO valuation methord also  . Ifd you want to use LIFO/FIFO methord .. you have to configure LIFO/FIFO customization and use the standard BADI give in the SPRO menu .
3. CKMLCP and CKMLCPAVR have no depencies and you can run that for same plant .. or you can run anyone of them . Both the purposes are different .
4. On the screen of CKMLCPAVR I don't have nothing in Creat Cost estimate ?? Implement SAP Note 659447 - No process steps in AVR cockpit ... it will solve your issues .
5. For CKMLCP.. OBYC settings are as per transaction key "BSX" ... OSS Note : 908737 - Post Closing in Material Ledger
6. CKMLCPAVR -- OBYC settings are as per transaction key "BSD " .. as if required manual entry has to be done to have actual costs . So , inventory account must have manual updation tick in GL master
7. To sum -up... OBYC settings you have to do for CKMLCPAVR and any valuation approach you use other than default SAP weighted avergae methord ( LIFO or FIFO)
Hope it clarifies ... Do revert bac for any further clarifications..

  • Actual Costing: Alternative valuation : "Relevant for Costing" indicator

    Hi:
We are using alternative valuation in our Actual Costing
We would like to know the use of the "Relevant for Costing" indicator. (XPCP field).
Documentation said: "If you set this indicator, the results of the alternative valuation run can be used in the standard cost estimate for the material." But there is not a clear explanation in the online doc or other info sites.
How does it works? What is the exact meaning of "can be used in Standard cost estimate"?
How can we get these values from Product Cost planning?
    Best Regards:
    Manuel

    Manuel,
If that Field is checked, it should update the Planned Price in the Costing 2 Tab of the Material Master Record. I did not try this though.

  • Moving avergae price updation in material master for project stock

    Dear All,
My query is pertaining to updation of MAP( moving average price) for project specific procurement ( as project stock) for valuated project stock.
As  definelty the cost of procurement gets consumed by project .but i want to know does the project stock procurement still updates the moving avergae price or not.
Ex:-Suppose MAP in material master is 10 USD ( with qty 1)and i procure the same material ( qty 1)for project with account assignment Q for 9 USD . now will the MAP in material master becomes 9.5 USD or it remains 10 usd.?
    Please reply urgently
    Regards
    Amit

    Hi Amit,
If your Project Stock is valuated, then, the valuation data for it is stored in a different table: QBEW.
The normal, anonymus warehouse stock (the unrestricted use stock which is not assigned to any project or to any sales order) has its valuation data stored in MBEW.
The "Accounting 1" view in the Material Master MM03 ONLY displays the data of MBEW.
In the material master you will never see the valuation data of the valuated project stock (table QBEW) or the valuated sales order stock (valuation indicator "M" - table EBEW).
The valuation data for the tables QBEW and EBEW can be seen in SE16 or in the transaction MBBS.
Also note that these valuated special stocks are managed independently of the normal stock. If, for example, you change the Moving Average Price of your normal stock in MBEW, this will not have any influence on your project stock, as the data is under a totally diferent table QBEW.
    I hope this helps you,
    Esther.

Its upto you if you want maintain material master record or not for non valuated material. With material master you have a material code to input in the field of PO, without material master you put in short text.

  • Account determination for project stock delivery (for movement type 281Q)

    Hello
We are trying to carry out delivery for project stock (CNS0) using  movement type 281Q.
We notice that there is no account modifier availalbe for this scenario resulting in error during PGI. However, we can do PGI after changing the config of account determination without account modifier.
Since working without an account modifier is not acceptable for various business reasons, we must have an account modifier defined. We are wondering why SAP has not provided a standard solution for dealing with project stock delivery.
Can any one please suggest how to deal this situation.
    Thanks and warm regards,
    Jagadeeesh

We have business requirement as stated below:
We need to procure materials for specific Projects but also want to track the stock for the Project by value in the invnetory. In other words, the encumbrance of the procurement needs to take place against the Project but we want to be able to take it into inventory as a valuated stock and issue to the WBS whenever it is required.
Is this possible?  What we know is that as soon as we give reference of the WBS for the Procurement, it gets expensed to the Project and we cannot value manage in inventory.
The reason for this requirement is there is a long time between when the item is procured and when it is used for the project. Till such time we have to track the Project items in the inventory as any other stock but its still tagged for the project and encumbrance would need to have happened
Any ideas on how to deal with this will be appreciated
    Thanks

  • Report Painter Drilldown on Cost Element for Project Systems

I am currently working on a report for Project Systems. I am trying to copy the functionality of the Internal Order summary (60I2-001) into report group 6P3. I was able to copy the whole layout and also the values of 6oI2-001 into a copy of 6PP4-001 but when I double click on "Balance" it is bringin up the ALV report that 6PP4-001 is using. I would like to call another report which looks like 6LS0-001 but contains Project System info made in report painter when I double click on Balance. Is this possible? Please let me know how.

    Hi Avinash,
    See my replies below.
1 a & B: You are planning Qty on NWA and capturing costs - labor & Equipment on NWA elements.
When  you are having elaborated to NWA-Element level, split your total work on each NWA-element and post labor cost. Thus you will have planned Vs actual costs at one place.
coming to equipment cost - are you capturing using PO through GR?.
2.a : Option1- create a separate WBS elements for materials and plan cost at WBS level. That value would be your total planned cost of material procurement as estimated. Under this WBS elements create NWAs and assign the materials. With this set up you can assign material and procure so that will have actual costs coming from GR.
Option 2: Create a one General Cost activity and assign the total planned cost of material on this NWA.
When you assign the material components, diligently you have to reduce the equivalent amount from the general costs activity. Also note that on component screen, you have to check box "Cost relevant" so that material cost will add to Cost NWA. Let the different materials  have their own valuation class and have default CEs accordingly. that would not be big issue.
Please discuss with your MM team to get more information. Also my suggestion is to leave blank CE field in configuration.
The option2 is very cumbersome and high risk but one have to be very cautious to reduce the value from Cost NWA in order to sustain the planned material costs whenever they added.
    3. I have answered the relevance of Cost relevance check box in above.
    Hope above makes sense.
    Thanks,
    Sudhakar

  • Alternatives to Cross Project Links

    Hi,
Cross Project Links (External Tasks) is an out-of-the-box feature that allows to create dependencies between workplans.
The basic functionality has not changed from Project Server 2003 (or ever in earlier versions) to Project Server 2013, including Project Online.
Unfortunately it would be an understatement to say that it is not the ideal tool for creating dependencies of this sort.  For example, There is no mechanism to preview and approve schedule changes (except the notorious "Links Between Project"
form), creating a dependency requires opening the all related workplans, there are many bugs associate to that, and this list goes on.
I'm looking for a 3rd party add-on that provides an alternative to Cross Project Links. What other tools would you recommend?
p.s. I've heard of 'TPG ProjectLink'. Had anyone tried it?

    Dominic,
    I have to be honest
that I'm familiar only with the deliverables feature on Project Server 2007, and not with any updates on 2010 and 2013 versions.
    I have invested many
hours in investigation of this tool and read documentation by Microsoft and bloggers, and reach the conclusion that this is not the right tool for me.
    As far as I know,
the deliverables feature has not been changed dramatically in the 2013 version, therefore I'm looking the alternatives.

  • Goods Received Valuation for Order Delivery

    Dear Experts,
In our business process planned order is created through project system. planned order is converted in to production order. while receiving finished goods throgh production order .
    for exmple:  production order 1:
In finished good A with moving avg price is Rs150
for this we use raw material B  Rs 120
                                 labour & machine                       Rs  20
toatl production cost is                               Rs  140
while goods receiving the production order credited with Rs 140.
For same material again we created one more Production order with another planned order.
                                production order 2:
In finished good A with moving avg price is Rs150
for this we use raw material B  Rs 140
                                          labour & machine                       Rs  20
toatl production cost is                               Rs  160
while goods receiving the production order2 credited with Rs 140. which is previous production order1 cost.
our client wants to credit production2 with Rs 160.
this credit posting Rs 140 is taken for all production order which is created to mateial finished good A.
Define Goods Received Valuation for Order Delivery here i assigned the valuation varient to the plant.
Is there any configuration for this apart from  the valuation type  V in the Material Master.
Please help on this.  I will be grateful for all of you.
    Thanks and Regards
    Raju

    Hi
The situation you are describing is a standard behaviour... SAP documentation states that in MTO scenario, your price from 1st goods receipt is used to valuate the subsequent Goods receipts
I think, both of your production orders pertain to the same project.... Correct me if i am wrong plz...
If you create another project, 140 will not be used... System will use the price from the 1st goods receipt of that project
This behaviour is controlled by requirement class settings. Check what requirement class you are using and see what all valuation settings have you made there.. especially in fields "Valuation" and "Without valuation strategy"
Refer the following path in SAP library or help.sap.com
    - Controlling > Product Cost Controlling > Cost Obj Contr > Product Cost by sales order > Valuated sales order stock >  Std price with valuated sales order stock
This appllies to both sales order stock and project stock
This explanation is very detailed and comprehensive... Believe me, these settings are extremely influential  and must be done with utmost care.... Understand this documentation well b4 doing the settings

  • Material To be Valuated in Project System

    Hi All,
We are implementing PS,MM,SD,FI &CO for a companay which works essentially on engineer to order scenario and using vlauated projec stock & actvity account assigned networks
Inhouse production is through typical assembly processing process - Where input & output materials are transferred through BOM PS Transfer from WBS BOM.
Input materials are issued to activity; work performed by work centers are entered by confirmation; at completion of work out put materials is 'Received from activity'. Both material issue and receipt are done wrt reservation.
When this is done, as per standard process, the cost addition (and hence value addition) is to activity and thereby to WBS element. The output material is not valuated. All the cost(or values) become project value which will reflect in WIP calculation. WIP is calculated as month end process.
At month end if the company wants to know the current asset from project and relevant stocks:
= WIP of project + Inventory value of the mmaterials.
Pl. note that only input materials i.e. raw materials and Bought out materials will have inventory value; the output material will not have any value.
The process is alright and I think we are alos complying to Accounting stanadard for project system - directive from Institute of Chartered accounts - India.
This process was first aceeptable to customer; but now they say -  the out put materials should be valuated. So that, when inventory value is taken - it is RM+BO and valuated semifinished +valuaed finished materials
One big reason they say is that they have to show inventory value to the Banks.
Now I need clarification in following points
    1. How to valuate the out put material when working only with project system. (apart from using user exit )
    2. If this is done, the project cost/WIP calculations will show ups amd downs - as goods receipt with valuated value will be with sign - this will reduced the cost. This will cause variuos problems - almost no standard SAP PS cost report will reflect the reality - WIP can not go up and down...This is illogical.
    3. Have you faced similar situation in implementation - that - Banks can not be conviced about this PSway of WIP calculation? Taking into consideration that project implementation is in India - an experienced reply can be very helpful
    Thanks and regards
    A.Saravanan

    Dear Pradeep,
When we work with network/activity/wbs element, Finished material is assigned to activity with sign. This means GR can be done. Technically system treats lke by-product. This material will not be valuated with in put costs...since there is no logic...For our convention, one WBS element, one network or one activity can be used to book all related costs..but still GR will happen with valuation as per valuation variant in NW only. This is quite logical and correct.
So...customer wants to know the cost of manufacturing a complex project assembly..then process under one WBS element..cost accumuated at that WBS element is cost of mfg. I have kept such finihed material std price at Rs.1. (Ideally it should be '0'.). Meaning material will not valuated.
Now if customer wants to knwo the cost ...look at WBs element
If needed, you can do unit costing and update the value in a suitable field in material master.
Therefore, I have kept all the semifinished/finished material std price at Rs.1.
This way..std functions of PS like RA, costforecasting are work properly.
For WIP calculation, this is of standard method and WIP will be current asset of company..this will be acceptable to Banks...one concern I had..cross checked with a Banker.
Another issue was sub-contracting. In India during S/C..we have Delivery challan and legal requirement of excise. We developed a program integrating dc, excise challan, transfer posting, goods issue against reservation and mateials assigned in activity. For user it will appear as one transcation, and system will propmt/list appropriate excise challan No. based on dc no & material as input...(I hope i remember right).
Again here GR of seni/finished naterial was atRs.1. since Service cosst, matarial issue cost get booked at activty.
    Thanks and regards

    Dear Colleagues,
Our company is implementing for Construction Company.
The client is specialized in Plant Erections, Civil constructions, Hotels, Towers, etc.

    The objective is to control
    1.     Material valuation at Project Level.
    2.     Cash flow at Project level
    3.     Material tracking (movements) at Project level.
We have two options to achieve the same:-

    Hi,
U can think below steps also.
    1) Plant will be one.
    2) New project create project and WBS structure from CJ20N.
    3) Creaate quatation from va21 assign wbs to finish material.
    4) Create sales order using quatation wbs also copied.
    5) Create BOM using CS61
    6) MRP run
7)PR-PO-GR for raw material and Planned order- production order- stock for finished and SFG.
    8) Finish stock will be with ref. to sales order.
    9) Delevry VL01N.
    10) Ur total project cost also booked in wbs u can see reports in CJI3.

  • Revaluation material using Alternative valuation run

    Hi friends!!
    My question is the next:
I´m want to use the Aternative valuation Run to do a Revaluation of consumption of several periods.
The issue is that I can´t find the option "Revaluate material" in the Costing cockpit of the Alternative valuation Run.
Do you must run the "Costing Cockpit: Actual Costing·" for each month to do the revalutate of ending inventory with the PIP??.
I would like to revaluate the ending stock with the Periodic internal price using the Alternative valuation run if this colud be possible..
    Thanks!!!
    Best Regards!!
    Manuel

    Hi Manuel,
It depends how you want to use the AVR.
The 'Determine Delta Postings' and 'Post Closing' steps are optional
steps. They are only displayed if the AVR run is defined as a 'posting run' in the settings of the AVR.
SAP recommends to run the post closing with the periodic actual costing and post a delta with the AVR functionality.
This delta is AVR actual price - periodic actual price.
The system post the revaluation amount to the material BSX account and the delta posting calculated by the AVR to
    the BSD account.
A different option would be to carry out a total post closing only via AVR according to note   633010. In this case,
the system doesn't revaluate materials with the new actual price but post the total revaluation to a LKW account.
In this case the periodic costing run can never be used. For this new posting logic you should use  the parameter
    AVR_POSTING_NO_DELTA in the CKMLMVADMIN table.
I hope the explanation helps to clarify the problem.
    Kind regards,

  • Alternative Valuation Run x IFRS depreciation

    Hi All
Is there anyone here who has implemented this kind of solution by running the CKMLCPAVR (alternative valuation run) to find a new actual price by using a different depreciation method (IFRS) ?
This is one of the requirements for south american companies to report for IFRS.
    Regards

    Hi Ramos,
yes, I know of customers who use the AVR for this purpose. Currently there is an enhancement in the deveopment queue to better align AVR with newGL. Aim is to direct AVR postings to the ledger of choice.
I could connect you with a colleague if you need more info on that.

  • Alternative Valuation Run

    Hi Sap Experts,
In one of our companies, we have decided to use alternative valuation run (CKMLCPAVR) in order to handle the differences between IFRS requirements and Local Requirements. I have two questions:
1-) What is the customization steps of alternative valuation run in order?
2-) Do we need to create a new costing variant for alternative valuatiıon run?
    Thanks In advance,
    Burak

    Dear all,
We have made a test to monitor the postings of AVR. THe following steps has been launched in order.
1-     All actual data for the period has been copied to the plan version *** via t-code KP98.
2-     The report S_ALR_87013611 u2013 Cost centers:Actual/Plan/Variance has been executed in order to compare the actual version (0) with plan version (***). It is seen as equal.
3-     IFRS-Local delta adjusments made on local ledger is from FI reports and these posting has been made in version *** by transaction KP06. For testing, only depreciation cost element in one of the production cost center increased by 10,000 EUR.
4-     Plan splitting (KSS4) has been executed.
5-     Plan price calculation has been executed.
6-     KSBT report for plan prices in each cost center/activity type has been checked. The only difference between the version 0 and *** is in the cost center where manual data updated in step 3.
7-     The report S_ALR_87013611 u2013 Cost centers:Actual/Plan/Variance has been executed and checked again in order to see the balance for all production cost center is 0 and splitting-plan price calculation is succesful. It has been seen that the balance of the cost center where manual data updated in step 3 is 0 and difference in depreciaton cot element has flowed to depreciation activity succesfully. In short, there is a 10,000 EUR balance between version 0 and *** in depreciation cost element (secondary).
8-     Alternavite Valuation Run (CKMLCPAVR) has been launched. Settings in AVR is stated below:
    Posting run:selected
    Revaluate consumption:selected
    Relevant for costing:selected
Credit cost center: Inactive for selection (I will mention this below)
    Acc. modification:blank
Accounting principle: ZTR (Local posting to local ledger) which is assigned to Local ledger in New ledger from customizing.
Provisional price:Price for the last cumulation period
    Price:Plan price for the period
Price for Cumulation in Legal Valuation:***
    Valuation alternative:Blank
Exch.rate diff:Cumulate exchange rate differences normally
After AVR closing document posted, we have realized that there is no posting related to data entered in KP06. The only posting is 0,01 EUR in  one cost element where rounding difference occured during copying actual to plan.
What can be the reason why was planning data not taken into account during delta posting? It seems that  AVR doesnu2019t take updates in  planning data change in KP06 in version ***.
Now, in the customizing step of activate actual costing step, u201CUpdate of Activity Consumption in the Quantity Structureu201D is 0 and u201CControl of Cost Center Creditu201D is blank as it seems below. Although, I changed these selections to 2 and 1, the u201Ccredit cost centeru201D box hasnu2019t turned into active.
Can the problem of planning data be related to u201Ccredit cost centeru201D selection in settings tab in AVR? If it is, how can it be activated?

  • Alternative valuation run AVR and "Following run"

    Hello,
We are using the Material Ledger (Alternative valuation run AVR) with multiple periods, in the "settings "  tab we flagged
    - "Posting run"
    - "Revaluate Consumption"
    - "Relevant for costing".
We would like to use the new costing run as "Following run" (ie we created the costing run for the period 01-2011 (January 2011) starting from the costing run of the period 12-2010 (December 2010); the costing run covers the period 01-2011).
A month later,  we would like to create a cumulated costing run for the two periods 01 and 02 (January and February 2011); the correct way is to create the costing run for the period 02-2011 (February 2011) starting from the costing run of the period 12-2010 (December 2010)?
    In this way we have
    - Initial period '01-2011 '
    - Period '02-2011 '. (following run of 12-2010 (December 2010).
A month later again,  we would like to create a cumulated costing run for the three periods 01 to 03 (January , February and March 2011); the correct way is to create the costing run for the period 03-2011 (March 2011) starting from the costing run of the period 12-2010 (December 2010)?
    In this way we have
    - Initial period '01-2011 '
    - Period '03-2011 '. (following run of 12-2010 (December 2010).
Is it this the correct way to use the "Following run" functionality?
Are There other ways to use the "Following run"?
Could you please indicates u201Chow tou201D documentation or other documentation?
    Thanks in advance.
    Mario

    Hi Gianmario,
I need to run Alternative valuation starting from the alternative of the last period.
For example: we want to create AVR for the period 01-2015 starting from the alternative of 12-2014 (because my user want to take value and inventory from the last alternative that he run in December)
    So :
    In January
    1)      initial period 01-2015
    2)      Period 01-2015
    3)      Following run 12-2014
    In February
    1)      initial period 01-2015
    2)      Period 02-2015
    3)      Following run 12-2014
    And so on…
I need to understand if this is the correct method to use “following run” because I don’t found material or documentation on this aspect, but I found only your post.
So have you found material/Documentation of this aspect? Or if you use “following run” in this mode have you found problems?
    Thanks in advance
    Claudia
