Alterts for Column Charts

Hi,
I have created a few column charts in Crystal XCelsius and have enabled value alerts so that the bars show up as different colours depending on the data. When I first assign the range for the alerts, the colours show up correctly. However, when I preview the chart, the bars are not coloured correctly-- i.e. not according to the specified range. Has anyone encountered a similar problem with alerts?
Thanks.

I believe this issue has to do with linking an alert to a cell. If that cell changes value, then everything seems to go to downhill. I believe this was supposed to be fixed in SP1, but it does not appear to be. I have a gauge with a value, a maximum limit, and an alert range that are all linked to dynamic cells, and the values change, but the needle never moves.
As an example, the lower limit is 0, the upper limit is 10, the value is 5, so the needle points straight. The user does something to change the value to 2, and the lower limit stays at 0, and the upper limit stays at 10, and the value label changes to 2, but the needle still points up and down.

• How to Enable Alerts for Column Chart

Hi,
I am new to Xcelsius. I have a column Chart with some data, I want to create alerts for that chart but Enable Alerts option is disabled. My question here is Will this option disabled for Column Chart, if not please tell me how to enable this option.
Your reply is always appreciated.

Hi,
By default Enable Alert option is un ticked check box, if you try to bring new colum chart and see if that enable or not.
If you get enabled Alert option in new one then delete old one and use new one.

• How to remove or change default background for column chart

I've spent waaaayyy too much time trying to figure this out: when I make a column chart, the background is gray. How do I change that. What If I want white?
Thanks,

Thanks to both Jerrold and Ashka. Both answers solved my problem. Surprisingly, I never looked at the format bar, ever! I kept looking in the menus and the chart inspector; should have looked at the graphic inspector.
Thanks again, Paul

Hi,
This type of question is almost impossible to answer over a forum .
You need to work with your business to understand what these requirements mean in terms of data modelling and relationships between object entities.
- Some of these metrics should be delegated to source, and calculated in the update routines to your datatargets (aka Cubes/Tables)
- Others could be resolved in the semantic layer (Universe)
- Other will be calculated in the presentation layer as local formulae or variables.
whilst BusinessObjects is a fairly intuitive tool, it may be unreasonble to expect a new learner to deliver an advanced report with conditional formatting.

• SSRS 2008 Column Chart with Calculated Series (moving average) "formula error - there are not enough data points for the period" error

I have a simple column chart grouping on 1 value on the category axis. For simplicity's sake, we are plotting $ amounts grouping by Month on the category axis. I right click on the data series and choose "Add calculated series...". I choose moving average. I want to move the average over at least 2 periods.
When I run the report, I get the error "Formula error - there are not enough data points for the period". The way the report is, I never have a guaranteed number of categories (there could be one or there could be 5). When there is 2 or more, the chart renders fine, however, when there is only 1 value, instead of suppressing the moving average line, I get that error and the chart shows nothing.
I don't think this is entirely acceptable for our end users. At a minimum, I would think the moving average line would be suppressed instead of hiding the entire chart. Does anyone know of any workarounds or do I have to enter another ms. connect bug/design consideration.
Thank you,
Dan

I was having the same error while trying to plot a moving average across 7 days. The work around I found was rather simple.
If you right click your report in the solution explorer and select "View Code" it will give you the underlying XML of the report. Find the entry for the value of your calculated series and enter a formula to dynamically create your periods.
<ChartFormulaParameter Name="Period">
<Value>=IIf(Count(Fields!Calls.Value) >= 7 ,7, (Count(Fields!Calls.Value)))</Value>
</ChartFormulaParameter>
What I'm doing here is getting the row count of records returned in the chart. If the returned rows are greater than or equal to 7 (The amount of days I want the average) it will set the points to 7. If not, it will set the number to the amount of returned rows. So far this has worked great. I'm probably going to add more code to handle no records returned although in my case that shouldn't happen but, you never know.
A side note:
If you open the calculated series properties in the designer, you will notice the number of periods is set to "0". If you change this it will overwrite your custom formula in the XML.

• Values rotation for 3D Column chart not working

Hello,
I have a 3D Column chart type, using the Apex integration kit for anychart 5.1 and have the Values Rotation set to 90 Degrees.
However this setting or any other does not have any effect on the chart. The decimal_places setting also does not have any
effect.
This is the line in the custom XML
<values show="yes" prefix="" postfix="" decimal_separator="." thousand_separator="," rotation="90" decimal_places="0">
How do i get the values to be rotated?
Thanks in advance,

Hello,
I created a complete example site. An example of a 3D Column you find here: http://anychart.apex-evangelists.com/pls/apex/f?p=755:9:0::NO:::
If you click at the bottom, you see the source I use.
In Anychart 5 the values got replaced by labels, e.g.:
<label_settings enabled="true" rotation="90">
<format>{%Value}{numDecimals:0}</format>
</label_settings>Hope that helps.

• Can't add numbers greater than 100 in the Data Editor for a column chart

I'm trying to create a column chart in Keynote '09 but every time I add a data point with a value greater than 100 in the Data Editor it turns the number into a date. I have the Y Axis set to "Number" and it works fine for numbers less than 100 but I want to show a graph that goes from 0 - 1000. Is this happening to anyone else?
Chart Settings:
Y Axis Options:
- Max = 1000
- Steps = 5
- Format = Number
X Axis Options
- Show Axis
- Show Categories
- No Tick Marks
thanks in advance for the help

Welcome to the discussions, AlexEberts.
No, it's not happening for me. This is what I'm doing
1) Insert -> Chart -> Column
2) In the Data editor, for 2007, I enter 110.
The chart automatically expands to 110 (because, by default, it's set to autosize the Y-axis)
Does this work for you? If it does, then we can look at why it doesn't work when you add parameters.

• Creating Custom Theme for Power View Clustered columns chart

Helllo...
Is it possible to create custom theme for displaying clustered columns chart on Power View?
Basically I am looking to create chart with specific colors for the bars? For e.g. for High - RED, Medium - Orange and Low - Yellow color. When I look at themes available in Excel 2013 I don't see this combination as such, so I was looking to create one
myself.
I tried to create a theme using video on youtube, but the theme which I created is not showing up in Power View mode in excel 2013.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs2F1n2-YR8

Hi Sagar,
In Power View, it has several default theme colors for us to apply to our workbook. Also, we can change the Font, Text Size and Background of the chart. However, it is not support to design a custom theme color.
You can refer to the following steps to change the theme colors:
1. On the POWER VIEW tab, in the Themes group, click Themes.
2. Under Built-in, click the theme that you want to use.
Please refer to the following screenshot below:

• Slider + activating column switches for a column chart

Hi,
I am trying to make an Xcelsius presentation and because I am a bit stuck I thought that may be you could point me to some solution.
It is a three element column chart
+ three status switches for every column chart column (if the switch is On, then the slider should affect (i.e. increase/decrease) the corresponding column, otherwise not)
+ a vertical slider which should increase/decrease only those of the columns for which the corresponding column switches are set On. If no column switch is On, then the slider should not affect any column value.
As I see it, an intermediate subtraction value for every column should be calculated, depending on the corresponding column switch and cur slider value. And this value should be subtracted from the current slider value in order to receive the right current value for every column. I have tried with some formulas but with no success.
Or may be a totally different approach should be taken?
(By the way, is there some way that Excel store/memorize in the excel table the various intermediate values for the corresponding columns, so that they dont always depend on a formula, but after they are calculated they are stored for later processing?)
As I have tried many variants with no success, I am beginning to doubt if this could at all be achieved with Excelsius.
Do you think this kind of functionality could somehow be organized with Excelsius?
Just in case I have put [here|
inspire.wdf.sap.corp\INSPIRE_Share\Raptor_share\tmp\example_frames.zip] (
inspire.wdf.sap.corp\INSPIRE_Share\Raptor_share\tmp\example_frames.zip) example frames, which demonstrate what the functionality should do.
Thanks!

Lisa,
Numbers will "wrap" text in a cell if you selec the cell(s) where you want to to wrap and check the box:
If there is more, then please post a screen shot of what you doc currently looks like and what you want to change.

• Decimal Point data for Stacked Column Chart

Hi,
I use a basic version of a Column chart for one of my projects. I use a stacked column chart with 2 data series namely "Expenses" & "Profit".
I use decimal point numbers (with only two or three places after the decimal point) for both series.
When I mouse over the bars of the output for tool tip, I view more numbers after the decimal point for some data.
How to fix the decimal point to only 2 places & what is the reason for this behaviour?
Attached is the sample output (output.gif) showing the above condition for the mentioned data.
-Sen

Create an toolTipShow event handler and use a NumberFormatter to set the precision of the numbers (sample code from LiveDocs):
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!-- formatters\MainNumberFormatter.mxml -->
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">

private var bigNumber:Number = 6000000000.65;
]]>
</mx:Script>
<!-- Declare and define parameters for the NumberFormatter.-->
<mx:NumberFormatter id="PrepForDisplay"
precision="0"

decimalSeparatorTo="."
thousandsSeparatorTo=","
useThousandsSeparator="true"
useNegativeSign="true"/>
<!-- Trigger the formatter while populating a string with data.-->

Hi Srinivas,
I'm using label based menu "filterd rows" only but i couldn't bind the drill down with the 1st stacked column chart.
for mor details:
1) i'm having 2 stacked coumn charts & 1 lebel based menu but eventhough i couldn't able to achieve.
if i select the lebel based values then the 2nd stacked column charts is giving detailed valus but if i keep my mouse on the 1st stacked column chart the there is no changes on the 2nd chart..
somewhere i'm mising the binding data between 1st stacked coumn chart & lebel based menu on drill down part.
Becoz i'm having multiple rows. so can you please try your and send me the xlf file using your concept.

• Help Creating Dynamic Stacked Column Chart with Multiple Criteria

Hi all. Im new here and hoping you can help. I have a dashboard Im trying to rebuild from scratch (our computer had a meltdown and we lost all our files). I did not build the dashboard initially so Im trying to recreate it from the flash file we were able to recover. I have come across a chart that I just cannot figure out how to do. I can figure out how to write an array in the Excel sheet that pulls the data into a table the way I need it to be but found out after I wrote that that Xcelcius doesn't support arrays so all my data disappears when I go into preview mode (which is especially frustrating since I can see the chart working fine in design mode). Anyway this is what the data table looks like

The original chart was built so that you would choose the month from a combo box and then the company names would show up along the X axis with their % amounts shown in the stacked column. I know how to make a combo box work and I know how to make a stacked column chart work with static data. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it to work so that when you choose the month from the combo box it filters the data. I've tried filtered rows but I'm just missing some information that makes it work and I can't figure out what that information is. It has to be able to get the month/year combo from the combo box and then go to the table, filter it by month and year and then create a multi-row table of data with just the company and the percent values. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Which connection you are using?
IF quite difficult if you are working under static data.

• Need EXPERT's suggestion for APEX CHART SERIES

Hello Everyone,
I have been trying to solve an issue with my apex line chart. The scenario is as follows:
I have a table called revenue. revenues per year are saved in it. and revenues are generated from three sources which are also saved in the same table.
I have made a line chart on it. works well.
Now I have to show that if the value of one of the sources had fallen, how must have it affected the total. I made a number field that takes an estimated change value, and build my sql query with it. it works but the problem is that it changes the non-affected source too. it must change the value of the affected source only and hence the total value.
I hope I make sense and anybody can suggest something.
bold or I will put it this way, how can I write a select statement for a chart series so that one of the rows value does not change and the other two change. ... ?

Samooray,
Let's work with this question since there is more detail here than in the other one. {thread:id=2543702}
First it's always help to know:
Full APEX version
Full DB/version/edition/host OS
Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)
Browser(s) and version(s) used
And sometimes this information as well.
Theme
Template(s)
Region/item type(s)
When a question goes unanswered for a while, there is no need to reply to it or to start a new question. You can edit the original question and just add "Bump" at the bottom and save the changes. This will bump it back to the top of the question list. And by that time, you might think of additional information you can add to the question.
Say, why would a question go unanswered? Well, easy questions and frequently asked questions with well-known answers can be answered right away. Your question seems more complicated and I don't think we have all the information we need to understand exactly what the question is.
You are doing a "series" chart. What kind of series chart: bar, column, line? What is each series? For example, components of revenue might be 1) sales, 2) licensing revenue and 3) other. Then you might have one series for sales, a second for licensing revenue and a third for other.
Could you mock up a trivial example on apex.oracle.com http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=4700:1:0::::: ?
Regards,
Howard

In the new Numbers, How can I get a 2D stacked column chart to display only 1 column?

This is one of those things that I find really strange about Numbers 3. The control for what you want to do is not where anyone would expect to find it.
Select the Chart
Click on Edit Data References
Look at the bottom left corner of the Numbers window. It should say "Plot Columns as Series" or "Plot Rows as Series"
Click on it and change it to the other
