An unknown error occurred (5002) in Shopping Cart
I've e-mailed Apple tech. support, and they just keep giving me generic answers.
For the past 2 months, I have been unable to view my shopping cart. I've tried this on 4 different PCs/internet connections, so it can't be that. I'm sure there's something wrong on the server, or some misconfiguration of my shopping cart server side.
Anyhow, does anyone know of a workaround, a way to fix this, a way to get in touch with real tech. support and not people who treat you like an idiot?
You might get better answers over in the music store discussions...
but if you change to one-click and go back, is it fixed?

When trying to sign in to the iTunes store I get the following message, "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (5002). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later." How do you resolve this? Has been going on for days now.
I started getting this message a couple of days ago.
Started a thread of my own before I saw your post. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4660828 -

An unknown error occurred (5002) and Connection timed out issue(s)
Next issue that I have since upgrading to Ver 8 of iTunes:
When trying to make a purchase I get either one of two different problems/errors -- 1.) Following pop-up “Could not purchase song. An unknown error occurred (5002)” or 2.) I get a “connection timed out” pop-up stating there could be a problem with my internet/network connection.
As far as there being an issue with my modem or internet, well...there isn’t one that I can detect. I am able to do everything else in iTunes (download samples, surf the pages, etc.) so my connection seems ok generally speaking.
If someone could get in touch with that super-hip kid in the Mac commercials and tell him to fix all of these problems with iTunes ver 8 that would be great! Honestly, any other issues I have with Vista are typically easy to fix. iTunes is the one piece of software that seems to cause me the most issues and there is very little support from Apple. Seems sort of strange for a company who claims such stability in their products. What gives?
Sorry for the rant...just frustrated.Ok, two seconds after making this post I think I fixed the problem (fingers crossed). I read on a quazi-related post that iTunes was now requiring security codes off credit cards for purchases. Personally I don't use a credit card but I went in to my account just to make sure. The 1st time I tried to access my account I got the 5002 error, the 2nd time I was able to access my account w/o any issue. I did not make any changes to my account at all (just browsed around a bit and made sure everything was ok). After exiting my account I was able to make a purchase. Hey, whatever...right? Of course on my next purchase it will probably throw up some new error. Anyway, try this if you have the same problem.

Trying to purchase music and received this message: Could not purchase "Wish List". An unknown error occurred (5002) in the iTunes store. Try again later. I have tryed multiple times and still keep getting this error message. I have the downloaded the latest iTunes version. What is the answer?
So you already followed these steps?
This alert is often the result of an issue with verifying your billing.
Quit iTunes.
Open iTunes.
Test the issue.
If it persists, sign in to store.apple.com using your iTunes account
Click on Change account information
Modify or remove your credit card information.
Click Continue.

If you have I'd try calling AppleCare back and telling the it is error 5002 and already tried troubleshooting steps as listed in TS3297 and that you have already tried to email iTunes support and have yet to recieve a response. -

What is "An unknown error occurred (5002)" in iTunes for Mac
For the last few days I'm getting this error when I try to update an iPhone/iPod app in my Applications folder. When I click on the Update Available button I get the aforementioned error. Does anyone know what this means and/or better yet how to get rid of it so I can download the updated app.?
I get this error also. It is getting quite annoying. I tried contacting support and this is what they sent me:
"First, make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. It can be downloaded free of charge from the iTunes website:
http://www.itunes.com/download
Certain types of software can cause conflicts and prevent iTunes from connecting to the iTunes Store properly, even if the software appears to be configured to allow iTunes access. This can include firewall, virus-protection, and web-acceleration software.
If the error message persists after you upgrade iTunes, you can pinpoint which software program is the source of the block in the connection by using the MSCONFIG utility on your computer. For detailed instructions, please refer to the following article:
Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows Vista
http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n305415
In addition, if you are connecting to the Internet via a local area network (LAN), your router might have firewall settings that may interfere with your downloads and produce this error message. I suggest removing the router from your computer's connection and then connecting your computer directly to your modem. For assistance with settings for your router or modem, you may need to contact the manufacturer.
When configuring the software on your computer to give iTunes access to the Internet, you'll need to allow the following domains :
phobos.apple.com
phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net
If you require more in-depth assistance, you may wish to consider calling Apple technical support. A representative will be able to tell you about Apple's complimentary and fee-based support options and can help you determine which option might be most helpful in this case. You can reach AppleCare technical support at 800-APL-CARE (800-275-2273). Help is available seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. central time. "
Didn't help me... maybe it will work for someone else.

Error 11111 "Could not purchase song. An unknown error occurred.
When I try to download songs from iTunes, I get a message saying "Could not purchase song "x". An unknown error occurred (11111). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later. This has been going on for 2 months now. Help!
I had the same problem; however, only whenever I wanted to purchase a "complete set" or sets (ie: iTunes Essentials) that had like, 70+ songs... It just so happened that tonight I had one $74.25 set in my shopping basket (simply because I neglected to remove it!) and added three $.99 songs -- I was able to purchase the whole cart in one fail swoop by clicking on the button in the lower right hand corner that says "buy now". Hope this helps! K:)

An unknown error occurred (-1) while trying to restore Ipad 3 new
Happy iPad users, I may need some help from you please.
I’ve got a problem with my iPad new 32 GB WiFi + 4G LTE.
I bought it just recently in China and was using it for nearly one month without any issues.
Then at some point i started getting synchronization problems with iTunes and applications that I have downloaded did not run properly or simply won’t start on my iPad. Then I’ve lost cellular signal.
Trying to resolve the issues I had to reset iPad to factory settings and after that I could not register it with apple. I tried many times with no success.
Then I went through some internet articles and decided to restore my iPad and finally I’ve got my almost new iPad stuck is restore mode!!!
I cannot get it out of restore mode and I cannot get it restored.
When I try to restore it I get the following message:the ipad "ipad" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1)the ipad "ipad" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1)
The ipad "ipad" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1)
Here are the things I’ve done so far trying to restore it
Tried to restore in on Windows XP – no luck, same message
Tried to restore it on Windows 7 – no luck, same message
Tried to restore it on MacBook – NO LUCK, SAME MESSAGE
Tried to use recovery fix option on redsn0w. Did not help. I tried different versions of this program with no success. Maximum what I had is my iPad was entering “white apple mode” after clicking fix restore button.
Tried to restore iPad from DFU mode both on Windows XP and Windows 7, no luck, same message (error -1)
I suspect that my iPad may have a hardware issue however I still hope it can be fixed with your help.
We don’t have an official apple support centers where I leave and I would like to try all the options before I send it to abroad apple support center or to a shop where I bought it.
Please can anybody help me with advice on how to fix my iPad?
Thank you all in advance.I am facing the same issue, have you had luck getting it solved?

Thanks Samif itunes can no longer pickup your ipod, and you cant even do anything to your ipod, your best option is to either call apple care, or just take it to the nearest apple shop. i had a similar problem, mines currently at apple care repairs and they might just end up giving me a replacement.
