Anyone importing h.264 from final cut into Toast 11?

Hi folks,
I'm thinking of finally introducing Blu Ray as a few clients have requested it.
I use a compressHD card from matrox to create iphone, ipad, appletv etc.. files.
Of course, it also does blu ray.
Does anyone know if i can export, from compressor, an H.264 blu ray file and import into Toast 11?
I can't find any solid information from Roxio on whether or not Toast 11 will import those files?
The compressHD card is fast and the quality seems to be fantastic so this would be amazing if I can do this task.
Cheers,
Keebler

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the response.
I'm assuming you mean take my edited self or un-self-contained file and drop it into toast for it to convert/burn? Or maybe I'm not understanding the process.
The CompressHD card is faster than real time (in most files I've run to date) so I thought that would be the fastest way to process a file before burning.  ie. if I drop a .mov file into Toast 11, will it take a long time to convert (or does it?)
I was thinking (hoping) my workflow would be:
1. import into FC Studio
2. edit as required
3. export to compressor using CompressHD to create the H.264 file (I'm still investigating on whether or not exporting a .mov then dropping that directly into compressor is faster or more efficient than just exporting to compressor from within FCS)
4. take created H.264 file and add it to Toast 11, create a menu, burn.
Unless there's a more efficient way of burning Blu Ray (maybe WWDC will reveal DVDSP adding such a workflow)?
Hope that helps you helping me?
Cheers,
keebler

  • Retrieving imported AVCHD files from Final Cut Pro X

Hi there, does anyone know how to retrieve raw AVCHD clips from Final Cut Pro X, after they have been imported? I shot some footage on my GH2 and it DID import from the camera into FCP X, but it's not running smooth at all. I heard that it's better to convert the files into pro res first, but I wanted to see if it worked. It does work, but not very well. So now I want to find the original video files I imported and convert them into pro res and then import again. Anyone had experience with this?

I think it all comes back to work flow. The whole reason I have opted to convert the original files to pro res is because it is choppy in the timeline when I'm editing. It seems it's true that FCP X really prefers to work with 'optimized media'...or Pro Res instead of reformatted versions of AVCHD. I would like to work with this original format, mainl because the footage isn't as compressed and hasn't lost a generation...and look absolutely pure and gorgeous in high bit rate from my GH2, however, what choice do I have but to convert to Pro Res if I am unable to edit smoothly? I think Ian had the right idea when he said to compare the footage of both, but again, if I can't even edit in AVCHD then what's the point? I think Apple needs to rectify this in the next update as I'm sure there are so many users out there who would prefer editing in this original format. Is there a noticeable loss of quality, that's what I am curious about.

  • Help importing from Final Cut into Motion!!!!!

Okay im trying to import a selection from fcp using "send to motion project"
The plobleum is that I have a template created and I want to use my selection from fcp to replace the media file im my created template. Is this possible?

Export the selection as a self contained movie with current settings. Use that export to replace the media file.

  • Messed up import of HDV from Final Cut Pro

(I also posted this in the iMovie forum)
I am working on a project in Final Cut Pro, but I want to make use of some of iMovie's effects, like certain titling effects.
The program is an HDV project, which in FCP makes it a 1080i60 project.
I took the clip I wanted to work on and exported it as a quicktime movie, full resolution. The codec involved was HDV 1080i60.
When I tried to import this clip into iMovie, I created a new iMovie project with HDV; apparently this uses 1080i30. I imported the clip; it showed up horizontally shrunk and distorted.
When I just play the clip with QuickTime Player (prior to import into iMovie), it looks fine.
Am I not doing this right? How can I work on HDV clips from FCP in iMovie (and then get them back to FCP)?

Given that there are over 150 clips, and 4 tapes, that would be a significant problem.
Also, I am using Final Cut Studio, not Final Cut Express (which isn't universal and won't run properly on my MacBook Pro anyway).

  • Importing DV files from Final Cut Pro 4.5 to iMovie 6.03

I have a DV quality exported file from file cut pro 4.5 complete with Chapter markers. When I play it in QuickTime - it looks fine - complete with chapters sub headings ( pull down menu) on the bottom right corner - and a white line at the top - with very clear text telling me what chapter I am on right now.
When I drag this same file into iMovie 6.03 - after the import procedure stops - and I tried to play the movie - I noticed that the little white line showing the chapter marker titles - looks very smudgy/ pixilated.
I was under the impression that if I imported a DV quality movie into iMovie - there would be zero degradation - however this appears to not be true.
Question: What is going on here - is the video degraded by importing DV to imovie? Why would the little white line at the top look bad? How can I fix this - is there a better way to import without using a camera?
    g4 dual 1.25   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Why work in iMovie if you have FCP anyway?
good question - because this time I was having problems in FCP and had the mistaken notion that imovie might be easier... guess not

  • Can I import a video from Final Cut Pro

I'm doing a :45 sec. video clip in Final Cut and Kinemac for a local church. They want pre-recorded backround music that fades out at the end. Can I import this video into GB for the music..
    Thanks.
    NN

What do you mean by "this video"? The FCP file? No, but any rendered version: Show the video track in GB and pull the video over.
The question is: Why would you want to do this? If it's just about fading out the music, as you write, FCP will happily do that for you.

  • Compressing and importing from Final Cut into Flash

    Hi,
I am trying to import a short film into Flash to create a swf file which I want to use on the web.
I compressed the film to a smaller Quicktime film and imported it into Flash, worked fine, but I don't get any sound.I did mark the box import audio.
    Any suggestions?
    thanks
    Silke

extract the audio from your original movie and attach it to your SWF
dunno too much about Flash, but you should try importing your audio and video as seperate assets
or forget flash - u could just put it up as a movie (QT,MP4,WMV(!).....) or create an animated gif (e.g. with fireworks) and attach the audio file to it......
    good luck!

  • Can i import a project from final cut express

just bought fcp (couldnt wait for X)...can I import my projects or captured video from FCE ?
    thanks

As far as I know you can just open your FCE projects from within FCP. Only once saved, it cannot be opened with FCE any more.
Why not duplicate a FCE project and try to open it with FCP?

  • Importing chapter markers from Final Cut Pro

I usually set up my chapter markers and screen shots in FCP.
If I share this to QuickTime or iTunes library, the chapter markers are present and work well.
This was not always the case but since the latest update of FCP it works like a charm.
However if I export it to COMPRESSOR (because it works faster) the markers are lost.
I have successfully set channel markers in COMPRESSOR and that works, but my work flow seems to make more sense to set up the channels in FCP. (this is mostly because I often decide to do an edit change when I think about the marker...)
COMPRESSOR gives me the option to load markers, but I don't know how to get them out of FCP.
    So...
What do I need to do to export markers from FCP so they can be imported to COMPRESSOR.
(before you ask, both FCP and COMPRESSOR are the latest post-Christmas, vastly improved versions.
    Thanks.

Barry, You shouldn't have to do anything. What settings are you compressing to?

  • Wish to save export setting of H.264 from Final Cut Pro

I am using the quicktime conversion pull-down menu in FCP to create H.264 or MPEG-4 files with certain settings for Vimeo. I wish to save my settings for export rather to avoid having to re-enter them next time. The most recent settings option is not sufficient for me as I have a couple different sets of settings. In the quicktime conversion menu I do not have the option to save my settings like I do in the export quicktime movie pulldown.
Is my solution using compressor? If so, do I then have to use APak to compress the audio?
    Thank You.

You can build custom presets in Compressor and use those.
The procedure is quite straightforward and covered in the Compressor user manual.
do I then have to use APak to compress the audio
No, you can let Compressor handle the audio too.

  • Inputting footage from Final Cut Pro

I have input footage into Final Cut Pro, but would now like to try iMovie '09.
Can i move my footage from Final Cut into iMovie or do i have to input all over again?

iMovie should read all your FCP footage including ProRes movies as long as it's the same mac or another mac with FCP installed. Make a new folder in 'iMovie Events' and place your FCP movies. Next time you launch iM09 it will build thumbnails and footage will be read to use.

  • TS2179 import files from final cut express to idvd

Import files from final cut express to idvd. When we are making a dvd in iDVD importing the files (widescreen mov files ) from final cut express they automatically change to 4x3. They look correct when played in the quicktime player. Has anyone had this problem.

Generally, I just drag the DV file from the finder to the iDVD menu window. Make sure you don't drag it to any Drop Zones, I think that might be your problem with the DV file showing up as the background. If you have default settings in iDVD, this drag and drop should then create submenus based on your chapter markers.
I'm not sure if you have any issues with the Chapters not showing up in QT. If you're expecting them to show up, then make sure that when you do the Export to QT that the option to include Chapter Markers is set. Upon conversion, you should see the Chapters within QT as well as when imported into iDVD.
    Hope this helps!

  • Importing FCP Hi Rez from Final Cut with Encore Destination

I wonder if i could get some advise and comment on trying to get the best Blu Ray encode from Final Cut.
What I have done is this:
I have imported a 60 minute Quicktime FCP file into Premier CS4. (The file was imported as HDV video from a Canon XHA1 and converted in FCP to 422Hi Rez). I set Premier to HDV and not Quicktime before the import. When the import finished, I notice that playback was very jerky, so I rendered the whole time line. This took about 5 hours. Following this, play back was perfect.
So, what should my settings have been initially....might I have not set everything correctly. What settings should I have set initially?
(I have not figured out how to export a sequence directly from FCP which 4.01 is supposed to do.)
Now that it is play fine in Premier CS4  4.01, I am planning to use the dynamic link system to export into Encore CS4 .01 .  But before I do so, do I have to fill out copyright info in Premier...I noticed an area for this?
I chose this work flow because I did not want to use the FCP's Compressor for make a Blu Ray. I want to use Encore's H264 compression which produces a smaller file and thus less disc space. I do understand that I could have left out Premier altogether and gone directly from Compressor to Encore, but then I would not have had the H264 choice..;is this right...I am not entirely au fait with all the terms:)
So far, no crashes or weird behaviour. I am on a MacPro  Quad Core  2 Porcessor  2.8 GHZ processor.
    Tim

Thanks for the advice. I now have the project in Encore. While it played perfectly in Premiere, it cannot do so in Encore. Maybe this is because I have the settings set to the highest resolution- 1920 x 1080 and Blu Ray NTSC. I am trying to set up chapters and it is very jerky trying to get to the right place. Shou/ld I be doing this at a lower resolution and then changing things at the end?
Also I currently have DVD Transcode set to automatic and Blu-ray Transcode set to Automatic.
Are these settings going to look at the best on a 54" Samsung HDTV  1080i  ?  I notice a whole slew of choices in the drop down!!
I am ploughing through the Lynda.com tutorials, but some of these questions don't seem to be answered there.
I am planning on saving things to hard drive so I can test before burning...is this feasible on a mac?
