Aperture exporting to email takes minutes not seconds - Is life too short?

I'm writing this while I am exporting 5 images to email on Aperture. I am lucky that I am even able to write this as when I export images it slows down the entire computer and my typing is spluttering while I am doing this. The email has just appeared with the images just now - after about 4 minutes. Ocassionally they take less time but mostly they hang and hang on exporting and as I say slow my imac to a stop. The only adjustments I used in this batch (and most other batches)  are exposure, sharpness and dodge and burn.
I am not new to posting my Aperture issues here but just wonder does anyone see an Aperture appearing anytime soon that just " works" or should I just move away from it even though I love it (when it does occasionally work properly) and I am tied in to the system with over 100,000 images in the programme.
I do realise it seems to work for some lucky people whose system seems to be the perfect optimal system. - I would just love it to work for me.

It is not about luck, it is about strong hardware very carefully set up. When we lack the strongest hardware we do our best to develop optimizing workflows. Note that on weaker Macs like your iMac any one thing can bog down Aperture, so carefully implement every one of the suggestions below.
Some generic advice I posted in another thread:
Aperture is a heavy pro graphics app that is very demanding of hardware. Your Mac's CPU, GPU, i/o and RAM are all limiting to Aperture so we need to do what we can to optimize. Some steps:
• Set Previews to only be built manually, and only tell Aperture to build Previews when you are not otherwise editing in Aperture. I suggest setting the size of Previews to be the pixel dimensions of your display.
• Update the OS to the current 10.6.x version and Aperture to the current 3.x version.
• Keep the internal drive underfilled for speed, which sooner or later usually requires using a Referenced-Masters-Library with Masters on external drives. Back up originals before importing into Aperture or any other images app.
• The Aperture Library should be on an internal drive.
• Turn off Share Previews with iLife and iWork.
• Remember that HDs slow as they fill and keep the internal drive underfilled. Approx. 70% full _maximum_ is a good guideline.
• If page outs increase significantly during operation, max out RAM and/or try to run Aperture by itself. On my C2D MBP with its max of 3 GB RAM I always did a restart prior to a heavy Aperture session to clear any memory leaks and make sure no other apps were open. Browsers in particular will often suck RAM Aperture would otherwise be using.
IMO all Aperture users who can should routinely bump RAM to at least 8 GB.
• Some users have observed that it can take a new Aperture installation time (weeks) to stabilize on slow computers. So do not panic; and allow Aperture to continue background work by not fully shutting down the computer.

== Some time back, beggining with Firefox updates, at least three, or more updates ago.

Thanks for the tip. I took the following steps:
    1) Backed up the existing profile (presumably corrupted somewhere);
    2) Deleted the existing profile;
    3) Moved the existing Firefox to the Trash and downloaded a fresh copy;
    4) Started Firefox (thus allowing it to create its default profile)
    5) Copied the following files from the backup copy of the previous profile: places.sqlite, key3.db, signons.sqlite, permissions.sqlite, persdict.dat, cert8.db ---
I'm posting this from a Firefox browser, so I guess I'm OK now.

  • Opening Applications Now Takes Minutes, NOT seconds

As I wait for MS Word 2008 to open I have plenty of time to send this note. It now takes FOREVER to open applications, word, excel, iWeb, iPhoto and others to open.
    What's up with that!
    Why is this now happening?

Resolve the conflict/corruption in the original account. This can be a laborious process, but is guaranteed to resolve the problem. Create a new admin user account, log into it, backup the bad account's folder (to another volume, partition, or disk), delete the bad account, selecting the *save data* option (which is stored in /Users/Deleted Users/ as a disk image), recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the recreated original account. Open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it, keeping track of what you're moving to the new account so you can remove them if you encounter problems in the next step. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly. Good luck.

  • Why is my exporting taking over 1 minute per second of video in the sequence?

Hi folks, brand new to Premiere Pro (CS6) here, previous FCP user many years ago. I have a bunch of AVCHD footage shot on a Sony DSLR, and I'm currently playing with bits and pieces of it trying to figure out my ideal workflow. My footage is 1920x1080 (1.0), 59.94 fps, progressive. I took a random 15 second clip and threw it into a new sequence, put a Warp Stabilizer on it, rendered it, and now I'm trying to export it. However, regardless of whether I'm doing a 1080p H.264 export or a 720x480 AVI export, it seems to be taking FOREVER...about 15-20 minutes for this 15 second clip. I must be doing something wrong. Help?
    System specs:
Intel 4770K, overclocked to 4.2 GHz
NVidia GTX 780 (with GPU acceleration enabled, though looking at the GPU loading in GPU-Z shows it consistently at 0% for any type of rendering/exporting)
    16 GB DDR3 1600 RAM
    Windows 7 x64
For the sequence preview file format, I'm using P2 1080i-1080p 60Hz DVCPROHD, at 1920x1080. Max Bit Depth and Max Render Quality are unchecked.

Thanks, but I don't see much of a difference with that checked. Even a 4 second long file is taking 10+ minutes to export with just a warp stabilizer added and previews rendered.
Maybe the fact that I'm using 59.94 fps footage has something to do with it? I can't think of anything else. I'll try recording some stuff in a different format and see what happens. That would be a shame though, I'd like the final product to be in 1080p instead of 1080i.
Still not seeing any GPU usage at all, regardless of what effect or anything I'm using.
[EDIT] And all of a sudden, everything seems to be working fine! No idea how. Weird! [/EDIT]

  • CS4 Doesn't export more than 2 minutes 30 seconds

No matter what format I choose - FLV / Mov / .avi / Premierre only exports 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
It was working fine for a while until I added some titles and some still images.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks Dave

    Dave,
Also check that your Work Area Bar (WAB) is set to the full Duration of your Sequence. I've seen a few glitches, where even when one has checked "Entire Sequence," the WAB seems to override that - seldom, but it has happened to me.

  • Yoga Ideapad 13 touchscreen takes minutes to come to life since Windows 8.1 upgrade

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 then soon after I've noticed a problem where the touch screen doesn't work. Usually it starts working after the laptop has been active for a minute or two. It then works pretty much as normal but can sometimes stop again.
I've checked the drivers for it and it has the latest drivers according to Windows. I have applied other Lenovo Win 8.1 drivers but have seen nothing specific to the touch screen.
Anyone else experienced issues or have ideas to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Nigel

I've got my Yoga 3 14 about a month ago and it always gets ghost touches when I wake it up from sleep, which is solved by putting it to sleep again and waking it up again, which is quite annoying, but solves the problem. As it only happens when waking the notebook from sleep and not every time, it seems to be a firmware problem, which craches every once in a while or something like this.
I saw a thread where a guy returned his Yoga to the factory settings and it didn't have any problem for 2 days, when it came back and he had to send it to support, where they changed a lot of stuff, including the screen.
I don't think that it's a hardware problem, with the screen or the mobo or anything like this, because it'd happen always, but, I may be wrong, as I'm not expert.
If someone finds the solution for the ghost touch recognition, please post it here!
At first, I thought it was my dirty screen, but now I clean my screen everytime I turn it on and it keeps happening every once in a while.
It's annoying, as I said, but knowing that it doesn't happen everytime, it doesn't take any shine from the notebook for now,as I'm loving it!

  • Firefox keeps timing out after 10 seconds. this is too short for big sites, how can I change this?

I regularly use a very busy download site and find that Firefox closes me out of any part of the site, not just the current tab, when it times out after a max.10 seconds - seems less! I want to be able to allow the page to continue loading until it opens - because it will, just not in 10 seconds during busy times.

If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file ''cookies.sqlite'' that stores the cookies is corrupted.
You can rename (or delete) '''cookies.sqlite''' (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete '''cookies.sqlite-journal''' and '''cookies.txt''', if they exist, in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

  • Quitting Aperture 2.1.4 trial takes minutes

Hi, I just installed Aperture 2.1.4 trial over my 2.1.3 trial.
Basically it works, but quitting Aperture 2.1.4 takes minutes (7 to 8 minutes). During this time, I only see the rotating beach ball.
It turns out, that the problem is Aperture accessing my Samba share where all the pictures are. If I mount the drive it takes 7 to 8 minutes to quit. If I don't mount the drive, Aperture quits immediately, as expected. Aperture 2.1.3 did quit immediately.
    a) is it possible to uninstall 2.1.4 and re-install 2.1.3? I tried, but it didn't work (2.1.3 does not install after dropping 2.1.4 into trash)
    b) is there a solution to this problem with quitting Aperture 2.1.4 if accessing the samba share?
I use OSX 10.5.8 on a MacBook Pro.
    Thanks for any hint.

I have been having the same difficulties since installing Snow Leopard. When I perform a "software update" Aperture updates are not listed. I manually downloaded the 2.1.4 update and was then unable to install it for the same reason as above; the original 2.1 version is not recognized as even existing on the computer.
Interestingly, I have the same issue with Safari. The program disappeared from my Mac Pro during the upgrade to Snow Leopard and when I downloaded the latest Safari program and tried to install it, the installer informed me that I had to have OS X v10.5.8 or newer in order to install this program; all partitions on the computer were indicated to be unsuitable for installation including the system (10.6.2) partition. This problem persists. So what gives?
    Thanks for any help
    Jon

  • Switching in workspace between any item to Emails takes 45 seconds for mail to display.

Have a blackberry Q5 on OS10.3. via BES 12.  When switching between items in workspace it takes 45 seconds to switch and siplay mail in corporate email account.  Any switching between other items is instant.
    Device has been replaced twice.
device has been reloaded and also used OS 10.2
User account on BES server has been created on BES 12 server.
This only happens when you switch to look at your emails.  Other than that, the device is working.

    Hi Andy,
The switching time depends on the client buffer state and the keyframe interval of the content.  The switch is not complete until it is visible to the user, meaning the buffer has to play through.  So if the client has buffered 15 seconds of content, it will take around 15 seconds to make the switch.  This also depends on your FMS settings since keyframes can be generated on the fly.
This is easy to monitor if you turn on logging for the OSMF Flex project.  You'll see something like this in your log:
Calling for switch to 4 at 1708 kbps
Switching to index 4 at 1708 kbps
    event.info.code=NetStream.Play.Transition
    info.code=NetStream.Play.TransitionComplete
Transition complete to index: 4 at 1708 kbps
The "NetStream.Play.Transition" means the server has acknowledged the request and has begun the switching process.  The "NetStream.Play.TransitionComplete" is an in-stream event and this means the switch is visible to the user (the buffer has played thru and the new bitrate stream is now viewable).  The time between the "Transition" and the "TransitionComplete" will be very close to the size of the current buffer.  I don't belive we are logging the current buffer size right now, but you can easily do that in your player by getting to the netStream object via the LoadTrait (in sprint 10, sprint 9 will be the loadedContext). There is another thread here about getting to the netStream object if you want to try this yourself.
    Hope that helps,
    - charles

  • I have a problem when sending an email. It takes minutes just to put in the receivers address. More Below:

  • EMail Link in SWF exported from InD CS5 does not work

I'm trying to find a definitive answer on this. I have designed an interactive document in InD CS5 that has buttons and hyperlinks. When exported to SWF everything works except my e-mail hyperlink. It works fine in InDesign's preview pane. I've uploaded the file to my webserver for testing, the problem still occurs.
I found one post in another forum that quoted an Adobe InD developer stating that as of CS4 email links were not exported. However, I've not been able to find any mention of whether this works in CS5 or not.
Does anybody know for sure whether or not email links work in SWF files exported from CS5?

Sorry, no offense was intended. I had found references to problems with CS4, but nothing about CS5, and said as much in my post -- was frustrated that I had spent a long time looking and hadn't found any responses yet.
You mentioned using buttons rather than hyperlinks, and that worked for me -- but it might have just been a problem with my browser not properly reloading the flash file, too -- as I mentioned in my response.
But in any case, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUGGESTION!

If the Reset Ian mentioned doesn't work...
Shut down and restart the Mail app...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Tap and hold any icon in this list until they wiggle
    - Press the red to delete the Mail app from this list.
    - Press the home button twice when done.
    - Restart the Mail app
