APERTURE3 changing all my in camera color corrections while importing?

hey everyone finally made the switch to aperture 3, not sure what im doing wrong but whenever i import the pictures from my PANASONIC GF1 or CANON 50D all the in camera color corrections (for example white balance or conversion to black and white ) those settings are dumped and the original image (raw file) is imported into the program.
is this right? is there a setting to where i can turn this off? alot of times i like working in my camera to get the image how i want it to look. sorry if this is a very noob question thanks for any help

I use RAW+Jpg in different cameras and I import Both Raw as Master, leaving the originals on an external HD, that is referenced system.
I am missing something ?? For instance if I take a BW with my EP2 I get a RAW colored and a BW jpeg into Aperture only if I import separate masters.
If you use your normal 'Both RAW as Master' option, can you Control+Click (right-click)and use the set JPEG to Master option to switch to the Black & White version displayed?
Probably I am only wasting time shoting BW in camera because you can do it later from RAW with aperture...
If the JPEG captured what you wanted to see and will work for your purpose, then it is not a waste of time - IMHO.
I shoot RAW+JPEG also and import 'Both JPEG as Master' because most of the time the JPEG works for what I want.

  • Do all editing before any color correction?

I have just gotten final cut pro x.
I have some experience (very limited a couple of years back, with a Sony Home Movie Studio Platinum).
I am shooting my own music video.
Really enjoying using FCPX atm.  Niggles aside (the lack of a manual save feature)
    Just curious about workflow/resources.
Should I do all my editing, prior to color correction from a resources standpoint.
Does it make it slower, rendering say a zoom in the transform function with color correction applied, than without?
Eg, I have a clip, I put a keyframe and start and end of the clip. Then I scale the clip to 105% on the end of clip keyframe
    to simulate a zoom in.
Should I be doing all that kind of editing, then applying any color correction or video type effects?
    cheers
    Wiz

That's the SOP for working with professional video. You organize your media, you edit your media, you mix your audio, you add your transitions and titles, add effects and motion, color correct your video.

  • Multi-Cam Color correcting and low light

I have scanned the forums and youtube but am having a hard time trying to figure this out.
I was filmed in Las Vegas at an event by two different cameras. My Sony Z5u (front shot) and a similar looking and priced Cannon using tape.
I have them downloaded and on the timeline synced
I would like to get the colors as close as possible on both clips in the first hour ( brighter pics attached )
Is there a way to match pretty closly the two clips in color with a color corrector automatically...or is this a manual thing i have to do?
Hours 2 - 6 the lights came down for power point and the video has this orange brown hue that looks like crap.
And ideas on how i might make it look a bit better?
    Any help is appreciated :-)
    Thanks!

    It's a manual thing.

  • Color Adjustments while importing from Epson P5000

Hello, I recently upgraded to Aperture 1.5.2. Since doing so, when I import my images from my Epson P5000 portable external hard drive I am having a problem. As soon as all the images are imported in Aperture, one by one each image undergoes automatic adjustments. They become over saturated, develope a color cast (or perhaps a temperature adjustment). This is not a setting in my camera nor do the images look this way on the display on my Epson. Can anyone explain how to turn these adjustments off? Thanks, Phil

  • Error Correction While Importing CDs

Just wondered if people generally keep this switched on or off while importing CD's into iTunes?

If it is on then your imports are slower Turn it on only if you have a problem disc.

  • Scopes / Color-Correction Question

When I apply a color-correction effect - RGB Curves for instance - before I make a single adjustment the scopes jump to new values, as if I had made an adjustment. When I click the eyeball to turn the effect off the scopes all go back to their original values.
The Composite Video doesn't change until I actually make an adjustment, but the scopes all register some change - before I make a change.
What is going on here? It seems so basic I must be missing something simple.
Any help would be appreciated - Thank You!
[edit: btw the changes in the scopes are not small or barely noticeable - they're huge and obvious. Thanks again.]

We made tests raw video files from various camcorders: Sony EX1, Panasonic AG-AC160, Panasonic TM900. In all this tests the pixels shift and even more: changes the tones of the video (particularly in the midtones) just when we apply (without change anything) any tool of Color Correction tab. The "All Scopes" show this clearly. The same problem when we use Colorista II or Magic Bullet Looks. For us this video is the proof of the situation, please watch in 720p:
I remember perfectly that when I was talking about this issue, someone replied: "go to a different NLE!", with plenty of irony, of course. But the problem is not me, canoli99, Ann Bens or others who have seen this problem. The problem is in Premiere and somehow we received this confirmation from Steve Hoeg/Adobe "It can be fixed but we cannot commit to any timeframe. Fixing and testing changes can often take months".
Only one detail that could help solve this bug: if we apply any tool of Color Correction tab on a AVCHD [4:2:0/8 bit] in the timeline, the problem occurs and the scopes jumped. BUT if we convert the same AVCHD to Cineform [4:2:2 or 4:4:4, 10 bit], put this new file Cineform in the timeline and then apply the same tool of Color Correction tab, the problem disappears and the scopes don't jumped.

  • Color correction followed by Film effects = bad vid?

I have some shots at the beach, and the shots look pretty good after I do the color correction. I want to add the film effect, so composite clips using Screen & Soft light modes, and use the gaussian blur. It results in something that I totally dont want, and it looks all washed out. Color correction and the film effects work pretty good individually, but together they are just not working for me. Can someone please tell me how can I preserve the color correction, and that filmic glow at the same time.
    Thanks a lot

You can move the filters around in a different order. Moving them in a particular order will change how the filters interacted with each other.
For example: You might want to do a lighting effect first followed by a blur. In this order you blurring the lighting effect. If you do the blur first and light effect next. You lighting the blur. (OR) You may want to do the color correction last for an over all color effect on the video and how it looks. If you do a color correction first the filter to follow with change how the color correction looks.
Play around with the order and try to get the effect you want.

  • E71 and Color Correction

I have noticed even with the new updated version firmware that when using the camera it still has a blue or purple tint and lacks sharpness.I preceded to http://mosh.nokia.com/content/4F546B0D59DD282DE040050A45300EA2 and D/l this file and installed on the E71.
I took two pictures using the normal camera on the E71 and the conditions were set that both images not use flash. The first image was taken in the living room by the door leading to the deck and the other image was taken in a room just using the overhead fixture.
I then preceded to using the installed program and went to camera-color correction and color corrected blue by adding yellow and increased the contrast slightly. I will add another post so that you might see Roomlight 1.jpg
You decide if its better or worse and i also noticed and using the installed program that the file size just about doubled.

Somebody asked me to make a comparison of that living room photo with and without contrast.
All photos reduced to 640x480 as if they were sent mms.

Living Room Photo color corrected by adding yellow and slight magneta
Living Room Photo same as 1. except contrast added.

  • Batch Exporting  Color Corrected Clips, QT issues

    Hello,
I work for a small ad company with a couple guys on the road shooting video, a video editor(me) and a few graphic designers. For company workflow reasons I take video footage from guys on the road and export to Quicktime movies(5-50 per client, 5-10 sec. apiece) and give to graphic designers, they then use After Effects and Motion to lay graphics on and lay out vid for ad.
    1. I generally capture the whole tape.
    2. I select Ins/Outs from that tape and make (lets say) 50 clips in timeline.
    3. I make all clips independant and rename in order 1-50
    4. (THIS IS WHERE PROBLEM STEMS) I color correct all clips using 3 wheel color corrector
    5. I pull all 50 clips (numbered, color corrected) into a client bin
    6. Right Clip bin, Batch export.
    7. Check Use In/ Out , Make Self Contained, Prefix .Mov, Quicktime movie using MPEG 4compressor, best quality, and set destination.
    8. Hit Export
The result is a Quicktime Movie that has sound but is frozen on first frame of video.
Normally this process works perfect and I have no issues with QT. Step 4 is something that I would like to incorporate but everytime I try I get the issues with Quicktime.
Thanks ahead of time for help, hope I gave someone enough to go off of.
    I.V.

If you drag the clips from the timeline to a bin and select them all and choose batch export and set the option to export in to out, it should work.  Not sure about the naming option, but I suspect it'll work.  Do a test first.

  • FCE not exporting color corrections (help please)

I see there are some really experienced Final Cut folks here. Anyone care to help with this glitch?
I've imported AVCHD footage from a Canon Vixia in 1920x1080. I edit it in Final Cut Express. I add Color Correction and Brightness / Contrast Filters. Then I export it as regular Quicktime (no compression). For some reason the brightness changes get exported but the color correction changes do not. I have tried rendering the footage before export. No change. It only exports brightness edits.
    How can I fix this?
    thank you for your help!

Hi and welcome to the forum!
What are your sequence settings? Are you seeing the color changes in your canvas before export?

  • "change all" never works

"Open with:", then "Change all" never works. It sticks while I'm logged on, but as soon as I log out and back in, it's back to default, or worse, back to pointing to software that I don't even have anymore. It's been like this since I migrated to a MacBook.

then it's a known bug in filevault. see this link for a possible workaround.

  • Color correction change across all clips?

I know how to make a color correction to my first clip, then I can copy and paste it onto all the other clips. However, what if I want to change the color correction later on? I have to delete all the color corrected clips, and then make a new correction and re-paste. Then if I want to do it all again, same hassle. This can be very bad when working with hundreds of clips on the timeline.
I wonder if I can set up a color correction profile and then send the clip to that profile. Then I can change the profile and each clip will follow that.
    Thanks,
    MrD

    Two observations...
    1.  You don't have to delete the clips to change the CC.  You simply modify settings in the effects panel.
    2. Provided that you want to apply the same CC to all the clips in (say) Timeline One - nest Timeline One inside Timeline Two and apply CC to it.  In this way you only have to apply one CC instance..

  • Apply color correction to all footage by changing one color?

    Hello everybody,
I have two versions of the same footage which I want to synchronize and make one video out of them. By masking, I've put one on top of the other and I'm synching the footage, but the colors are slightly different in the bottom one (a bit brighter). I've tried to correct it using several filters, but even though I get some really good results changing the values (I'm using Brightness and Contrast right now, but I've also tried Color Correction, HLS, Hue/Saturation...) they're not as good as I'd like.
In several moments, for example, the sky appears, in both layers at the same time. Is there any way I can make the bottom layer correct the sky color into exactly the one in the top layer, so the changes I make in the HLS of that color apply to all footage? That way the color changes would be perfect.
Maybe this is easy to do, but I'm a beginner at After Effects so I don't really know how to do it. Online tutorials don't seem to help much either.
    Thanks!

I've been using the re:Match plug-in for similar tasks with success. It costs $90 but there is a demo version you can try out:
    http://www.revisionfx.com/products/rematch/
and also a tutorial from Andrew Devin:
    http://library.creativecow.net/devis_andrew/AE_RE-Match/1
You can also match footage in Speedgrade, but I haven't tried that feature yet.

  • MulitCam editing and color correcting each cam

I do a lot of 4 or 5 camera editing of some concerts and I always have to go through each shot and tweak the colors.
This time I'm taking the original clip, color correcting, exporting then using the exported clip in my multiclip editor.
Is there a quicker or better way? Let's say I want to tweak the colors on cam 1 but tweak the colors differently on cam 2, cam 3 and so on. Is there a way in the sequence to quickly add the color correction to one cam at a time? Can you highlight just a certain cam quickly?

Once your edit is locked and collapsed, just set a correction for an angle, copy it, then do a search/find for that angle's name in the sequence.
I run the find using 'from in to out' / 'select all'. Then paste the filter to all at once.
Be advised, the slightest changes in framing, lighting, etc can make a difference between shots (from the same angle), so you still might want to go shot by shot and make any necessary adjustments.
That's the quick and dirty way, anyway.
Bottom line IMHO, is each shot needs individual attention.

  • Lightroom VS Camera Raw 5.5 (color correction)

Hi, does somebody know if discarding the advantage of making layers of Photoshop, is the Adobe Lightroom color correction controls superiors to the CameraRaw PS Interface correction controls ??? I mean for color correction purposes is Adobe Lightroom  better tan PS's  camera raw interface ???? because for me both controls seem to be pretty much the same thing,  does anyone know something about it ??
    Thank you in advance !

They seem the same because they are the same thing. Lightroom is basically an interface built around the camera raw processing core so you will get exactly the same results. The only thing really that you can do in Camera RAW that you can't in Lightroom is point curves (the interface simply doesn't expose them at the moment), which are almost never needed in raw conversion, except if you do special effects. I almost never use Photoshop anymore as Lightroom basically does all I need.
P.S. the latest version of camera RAW is 5.6! Lightroom is at 2.6. The last number corresponds not by accident.
