Apple tv does not automatically download

My 1st generation Apple TV no longer automatically downloads TV shows from the iTunes store for season passes purchased on iTunes. These need to be downloaded to the computer and synched manually. As this worked previously, I am wondering if anything has changed?

As it happens, this is true for me as well. The fact that there are some movies on my Apple TV that I cannot move to my computer prevents me from simply trying to disconnect and reconnect the Apple TV to my library.
I asked for assistance on this, and they re-initiate the download. Now i have two copies of the movie on the Apple TV and still none on the computer. The movie did appear in the "Downloads" list on iTunes, but dissapeared once the download completed. The "iTunes Extras" is present on the computer, however. Just not the movie itself.

Correct. You must sync your device with iTunes.

We have this problem as well. Unfortunately after years of only supporting IE and finally rewriting our site to be standards compliant we are going to have to force users back to IE because of this issue. It's not feasible for us to walk users through changing the default viewer. The default should stay Adobe (if installed) until a more robust native version is available. I understand you want to promote free and open tools but if they don't work, it's just not good enough.

ITunes 11.x does not automatically download purchased music

Hello to everyone,
after installing iTunes 11.x, the new purchased music (that I buy with my iPhone, iPod and iPad) is not automatically downloaded on my iMac even if I have the iTunes set for doing it (in the preferences). With the previous version of iTunes I did not have this problem.
Now, when I verify if there are new items to download, it says to me that there are no new elements to download, so I need to sync the iPhone/iPod or iPad manually to have them transfered to my iMac.
Does someone else have my same problem or could you help me in solving it?

Are you saying the songs are in you Library but not in the Purchased playlist?
In that case you can simply drag them from the main iTunes display into the playlist.

I had the same issue, went to itunes store on the Apple TV but the rented movie would not download. Tried this over and over again, restarted ATV and it still didn't work. I had itunes open on my Imac so I closed it and forced it to quit. Voila the movie showed up in the top row as a rented movie!

When open up Itunes and get notice that a update is available. I click to download but nothing happens

My problem was that Software Update didn't check for updates every day, and maybe never...

Basically all you have to do is open the Terminal and type:
     sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist ScheduleFrequency 1
The number, 1 in this case, means the frequency which Software Update is going to check for updates, so 1 means every day.
If this doesn't work you can try two things (or both, but in this order)
     - Go to /Library/Preferences/ and delete the file: com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist, then open Software Update... to create a new file, and go to System Preferences to configure it again. Finally open the Terminal and try the command at the beginning of this comment.
     - If Software Update continues without checking for updates every day, open the file: com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist and you will see a preference that is: ScheduleFrequency with the number 1 at its right and you will see that the type is String, copy the file to the Desktop (for example) and change the type String to Number, then drag the file in the Desktop into the Preferences folder and replace the first. It will work. (For this part you will need Xcode)

Purchases not automatically downloading

I just installed new windows 7 operating system and installed latest version of itunes. After authorizing the computer and all my ios devices, the purchases I make on my iphone or ipad does not automatically download on itunes and into the pc designated folder. Please Help.

Mail does not automatically update on Mavericks 10.9.1

My Mac Mail does not automatically download after the Mavericks 10.9.1 update on December 16th. I have set preferences to download automatically. It worked fine until recently but now i have to click get mail option to receive emails. It is true for all my accounts (Exchange, Google IMAP, Yahoo IMAP and iCloud IMAP).
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
Envelope Index
ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Warning: The process may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. For reasonable-sized mailboxes, it should only take a few minutes.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

I don't know exactly what they said b/c they are nolonger on my screen. It said something to the effect of "incomplete dowload, there was an eror during the dowload of *Song*".
The songs purchased were showing in my purchased list with an "exclamation point" by them, which I believe indicates the download was incomplete. I restarted iTunes and the songs are no longer on my "Purchased list".

My Mac has FaceTime 2.0 and it is terrible, I tried to download a new copy but the apple store does not have 2.0 Also I chat was the way I communicated before I upgraded. What happened?

I upgraded to Lion X and have been having problems with FaceTime my version is 2.0 and the Apple store does not have this version, what happened to the changes, I used to use IChat and it was great, this is no longer available. Any hints for video conferencing or for what is going on.

You can video conference with the iChat component of Messages. Not sure if that's possible with Facetime. I have been using Facetime for video chat without any problems. Quality is no different than with iChat.

It sounds like your Mail application is not checking for mail automatically anymore after updating to 10.10.2. It seems to me that the setting for this may have reset, or changed at some point thereafter so I would check the preferences for the Mail application:
General preferences - Mail Help
Check for new messages
When Mail gets new messages from the mail server. By default, the option is set to Automatically (Mail varies how often it gets messages, based on whether your Mac is plugged into an electrical outlet).
An IMAP account may get messages more frequently if the mail server supports the IDLE command; make sure the option to use it is selected in the account’s Advanced pane in Mail preferences.
If you set the option to Manually, click the Get Mail button in the Mail toolbar to check for messages. (Whenever you click an IMAP or Exchange mailbox, it syncs with the server, and shows new messages.)

Why does Safari automatically download files? I want option to download or not. I didn't think it used to automatically download. But now every time I click on a file that has been sent to me it does give me an option to view or not..it just automatically downloads it. Any suggestions?

Safari has always done this. Maybe in the past you had a third-party application installed that did this for Safari.

For more immediate action, have a search around www.macupdate.com or www.versiontracker.com to see if such an 'extension' exists to force Safari to prompt on download. (Bear in mind these kind of things can be sensitive to the version of Safari they're used with, so if Safari starts crashing down the line they would be the primary suspects to remove)

Are you by chance signed in to differnt accounts on iTunes (your computer(s)) and AppleTV? Is AppleTV connected to more than one computer? When you are compairing lists of movies are you looking under the "Movies" button, or under the "Computer" button? Where all of these movies purchased though iTunes?
NOTE: The computer button only shows the content that is downloaded to your computer(s). So it will not show all the content you have purchased. Just all the content on the computer.

When I click on a picture, Photoshop Elements 12 does not automatically open (as it did when I used previous versions Photoshop Elements 4 and 9). I can't even right-click (Windows) on the picture and choose Open With and specifiy Photoshop Elements 12. I have called Adobe several times (Case No. 185140584) and they keep saying it has been sent up to senior management and they will call me back with a solution - but to no avail! No return calls and I still can't really use the Product I paid for and downloaded. The only way I can open up a picture to edit it is to open Photoshop Elements 12 and then then click "Open" and then search for the picture on my hard drive (which takes a lot more time! I did not experience this difficulty at all with versions 4 or 9!

You failed to say which Windows system you have - I can get the "Open With" to work on my Windows 7 64bit system.
When you try to set up the "Open With", are you setting the correct target program?
It's the green one (not the red one) in the above image.
Once you have selected that program, make sure you set it as default so that a double click will open the photo in the editor.

After 4 calls to apple and 8 and a half hours on the phone. The apple people does not how to solve the problem. The last thing they told me is that they will send the problem to their engineers and I will hear from them. unfortunately they have not contact me.
During the phone calls I tried putting the date and time in automatic, changing the username and password, I even tried using somebody elses username and password. Please help, facetime is my tool to telecomute, and it is hurting my job.
