Apple TV wireless connection

Hallo,
I have a Apple TV connected to my wireless network created by a TC 500 GB.
Till now I have used for the TC the wireless setting "Only 802.11n (5GHz) and everything was working pretty good.
Now, since I have bought an iPod Touch, I needed to switch the TC wireless setting to "802.11n (compatible 802.11b/g).
All my device are still working, despite the Apple TV. I try several time to connect the Apple TV to my network but every time the same error: "Error during the connession to the network, try again".
The sw version of my Aplle TV is 2.3.1.
Can anybody hel me?
Thanks

You should post your question in the Apple TV forum.
I think you are describing the reason Apple built the dual band Airport Extreme. You need the greater speed of 802.11n for your Apple TV. The Touch can only use the slower 802.11g.
The new dual band Extreme can create both those networks so they can operate independently.
Your Apple TV should still connect though, so ask in that other forum. Good luck!

  • Lose Apple TV wireless connection with latest Apple TV update

I purchased a new IPhone yesterday and tried to set up the Apple Tv software to use the Iphone as a remote. This involved updating to the Latest Apple TV version 2.1. However once I carried out the update the Apple TV lost connection with the Wireless network and displayed an ip address 169.xxx.xxx.xxx . I manually set up the system to the 192.168.1.xxx subnet and the Apple TV showed up in the Router client table but I wasn't able to ping the Apple TV from the router and the Apple TV had no connection to the internet and would not appear in Itunes devices.
I reloaded itunes and reset the Macbook pro etc but no success. I then restored the Apple TV to factory settings and it reconnected on version 1.0 . I then tried a further software update on the Apple TV to 2.1 and once again I lost my connection to the Local wireless network. Same DHCP address 169. xxx etc.
Can anyone help me to either get the Apple TV to connect under 2.1 or tell me if it is possible to restore the Apple TV to the previous 2.0 software which at least gave me the lastest updates without the iphone remote facility.
Apple TV worked fine on Version 2.0
Really getting anger with the continual crashes and bugs on the software updates now.
    Mac OS X (10.5.4) MacBookPRO
    iTunes version 7.7.1 (11)
    Apple TV (2.1)
    Appreciate any assistance

Ok Guys here's what i found.
*1. Disconnected ethernet wired connection, soft reset apple tv.*
ATV Continued to work and kept ip address 192.168.1.10x
*2. Moved Apple Tv unit back to original location and did a power reset.*
ATV Continued to work and kept IP address 192.168.1.10x
Tried movie trailers etc. everything still functional could see in Itunes devices etc.
    *3.Power reset router*
ATV Continued to work and still had correct IP address
*4. Powered down all network devices including the Router. then powered up router and brought up all devices individually , bring up the Apple Tv last*
Router DHCP client list showed Apple Tv with IP address 192.168.1.104
Apple Tv network setting showed DHCP ip address as 169.xxx.xxx.xxx
Apple TV could not see internet and I couldn't ping the apple TV from the router
*5. Plugged in the Ethernet cable to Apple Tv and Router*
Network setting on Apple tv instantly changed to ethernet and showed correct IP address 192.168.1.104 from DHCP on Router. Unit burst into life and connected to Internet.
*6. Disconnected ethernet cable from Apple TV.*
Network settings showed wireless network but no information on IP addresses etc just had N/A
Did a soft reset and all parameters appeared and they were now correct with IP address 192.168.1.104. apple tv once again started to work and showed up in Itunes.
    7. Final config is Wireless and things seem to be working but it would appear that when I intially set up the apple tv under 2.1 I have to first connect via ethernet to get the apple TV to configure with the correct IP address on the Wireless network otherwise it auto configures with a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address and doesn't appear to be connecting to the network.
Please let me know if anyone else sees the 169.xxx.xxx.xxx address when they initially connect to the wireless network with ATV version 2.1.
I would like to understand whether I have a unique problem or if others are seeing the same thing.
Hope this helps , at least I seem to be able to use 2.1 and the iphone remote facility now , even although I have to mess about with the network setting to start with.
Interested to see what anyone else comes up with
    Cheers
    Alistair

  • Using Apple Tv as a wireless connection to second monitor

I gather from reading here that AppleTv will only display iTunes content
Is there a third party solution to allow anything on my computer to display on my tv also?
Also curious why Apple locked this great device to only display iTunes content and not everything on my mac

you might be able to devise a workaround (with old Mac or PC) using ScreenRecycler.

  • How can I resolve the issues connecting to my wireless connection with my Apple tv?

Ive had my Apple tv for about a month now & I still have not even used it for what I actually got it for. It allows me to use the airplay feature with my ipad2. But when I try to use the home sharing feature it never connects with my apple ID. At first I thought that maybe I'm just typing it the wrong way, but then I used the same ID and password to purchase an app on my iphone & it works. It's not my wireless connection because multiple devices connect to it just fine, without any issues. I tried reseting it, that obviously didnt work. I really just dont know what else to do.

you can't rely on airplay mirror some apps support the old in app airtune audio only option if the video app in question does you can do it from the apps settings somehow
if not then you need a airport express which does pretty much what airplay mirror on the Apple TV does but it's a audio only

  • How do I remove the wireless connection from my Apple TV 2.

I have an Apple TV 2 and I want to sell it. Before selling it, I want to remove my wireless connection which has my home network password from the Apple TV. How do I do it ?
    Thanks for helping me.

Put it in DFU and do an update. This will not only update it, but it will remove all settings. DFU =  hold menu+play while plugging it in.

  • Can I use airport express to create a local wireless network that my apple tv can connect to for AirPlay/mirroring in student halls/dorm without Internet connection

    Hi I was wondering :
Would I be able to make a local wireless network using airport express that my apple tv can connect to which in turn is connected to a projector with hdmi in so that I can mirror/AirPlay from iPhone pad and mac

will the Airport Express allow you to log onto a hotel wireless network, and broadcast a secure wireless network in your room for your wireless devices, like the Ipad, Iphone, etc.?
The bottom line with a single AirPort Express is no.
The AirPort Express can only "extend" a wireless network when the network is being provided by another Apple router.
As you might imagine, it is extremely unlikely that that the hotel network....which no doubt uses professional wireless access points provided by a manufacturer of commercial systems.....would be compatible with an AirPort Express.
In many years of travel domestically and internationally, I cannot recall a time when a single AirPort Express would "extend" the signal provided by a hotel's wireless network.
However, if you had two AirPort Express devices handy, you might be able to configure one to "join" the hotel network and provide an Ethernet signal to the second AirPort Express, which would be configured to "create" your own "private"  wireless network.

  • IMac and other Apple devices lose wireless connections

We have two Apple iMacs, a MacBook Pro, an iPad and iPad2 and they all intermittently lose their Wireless connection to my network.  All of my PC's work just fine and stay connected.  This is funny... the MacBook Pro booted to Windows 7 Pro stays connected, but the MacOS doesn't.
It appears to be a problem with DNS, because if you ping to a remote host, you get a response back.  Also, if you put an IP address into Safari on the iMac and MacBook then a site will come online.  However, the iPads just say "You are not connected" while in Safari.  I have verified that I'm using the correct DNS addresses provided by my ISP, and I have a Windows Domain server running DHCP/DNS on the inside of my firewall.
We recently moved and were issued a new wireless router by our ISP.  I was thinking that might be the problem, but then we don't have the problem with any of the Windows PCs.  This router is manufactured by Arris.  My other router was a Cisco that worked like a champ.
Turning off the Airport feature and turning it back on restores Web Browsing capability.  Interestingly, if I have a remote desktop session running, it never gets disconnected even when the web stops working.  Again, symptoms point to DNS issues.

If you feel it's DNS related then change the DNS setting to:
    1. System preferences
    2. Network
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click DNS tab
    5. Click + sign
    6. Add 208.67.222.222
    7. Click + sign
    8. Add 208.67.220.220
    9. Click OK.
    10. Exit System Preferences

  • I have a new Macbook Air 2012, Apple TV 2 and I have tried wired and wireless connections both result in stuttering during video airplay to the ATV2.

I have a new Macbook Air 2012, Apple TV 2 and I have tried wired and wireless connections both still result in stuttering during video airplay to the ATV2.
I have even bought a new Airport Extreme Router just to confirm it is not the router and it still didn't help.
I have brought all items in the same room with wired connections and still same issue.
I was thinking maybe ATV 3 might help since it has 2 wifi antennas and faster processor.
Have tried everything I could think of.
This was one of the main reasons I bought a Macbook Air for this airplay feature. Very frustrated.
Any thoughts; any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I also disabled Norton Firewall and restarted the Air and Now I'm able to use Air Play.
I know that the Apple remedy said that to do that in the support article, but I totally forgot I had that enabled..
It actually works. I can even stream to the Apple TV now through my MacBook Air.
BTW, Go into setting under the ATV, and click on update...you'll see that there was another update avaialble for the last gen of ATV...
It does have to restart twice..I guess once to download and and nother to apply.

  • Apple Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard not Connecting to iPad

Hey, I try to connect my Apple Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard is not connecting to my iPad. I tap Bluetooth "On" and it searches for devices. Then I slide the switch on the back of my keyboard to the green light and the iPad picks it up and says "Not Paired." So I tap the keyboard and it just spins and spins and spins until the keyboard times out and powers off. Then it disappears and my iPad can't find any devices. I repeated the process several times and I got the same result.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks

I had a very similar problem, with a new model wireless keyboard. The set-up is not very intuitive (and the instructions for both the iPad and the keyboard are not particularly helpful). Here's how I got it to work:
    1. If the keyboard has already been paired with another object -- e.g., I was testing out my iMac keyboard -- you should be completely out of range of that other object (more than 30 feet away).
    2. Make sure Bluetooth on the iPad is disabled.
    3. The keyboard should not be "on" -- i.e., no solid green light.
    4. Press and hold the power button on the keyboard until you get a blinking green light. This should take just a few seconds.
    5. Turn on Bluetooth on the iPad.
    6. At this point, it should detect the keyboard and instruct you to enter a combination of keys to pair the two devices.
I found that you have to follow this sequence or it won't work. For example, if you have Bluetooth on on the iPad before holding the power button on the keyboard, it won't work.
    I hope that helps.

Does Apple TV support wireless connection to the MacBook Pro retina display in an extended display mode? What is the output resolution and is sound also transmitted across?

SB1983, by extended display do you mean mirror?  All MBP since early 2011 support it if they are running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.  The resolution will depend on your Apple TV (2 Gen is 720 and 3rd Gen 1080) and wifi, it will lose some quality but I find it minimal.  It does also mirror the sound.

  • HT4628 After installing the new OS from apple (10.8.2) my macbook pro keeps disconnecting from the internet.  I am connecting with an Airport Extreme and while it shows I am connected, every 20-45 seconds its searching for a wireless connection.  Any sugg

I guess I posted my question as a title but that is my issue.  My airport is connected via wireless yet it keeps searching for a wireless connection, hence I am experiencing bad latency and disconnection issues.  Anyone know a solution?

I have the same problem. And in my case it happens when i transfer "large" files over the WiFi. When i send an MP3 filer over Skype i loose connection. When i transfer updates between my iPhone 5 / iPad 3 and iMac with Mountain Lion i loose connection. When i have a video conference i loose connection. You get the idea.
There is usually like 30 people using their own router on the 2.4 GHz band near by. None on the 5 GHz band which i use. But when my WiFi freezes on ML i can only see my own router. And i am also connected to it. But all my neighbors WiFi routers are now invisble to me. My network stalled.
What i do is that i disconnect my WiFi and then reconnect it again. Thank fixes it. But all my transfers and what not has been dropped. And i have to start all over - and the WiFi will stall again.
While my WiFi is frozen on the iMac with ML i have no problem using the same router on the same 5 GHz band with my iPhone 5 or iPad 3.
Downgrading the AirPort Extreme to 7.6.1 from 7.6.3 helped a bit. Now i only loose connection a few times each day.
It is a software error in ML i am sure of. A driver maybe. But i am suspecting that it is either a speed-sync error or an energy saving error. Like the network card turns of in the middle of a file transfer to save enrgy - maybe.
When i stream movies from my iMac to my Apple TV or  3 there is no problem at all. It is so odd.

  • HT4437 I have followed all relevant steps, my iPhone5 and apple TV are connected to the same wireless network, but I still cannot use airplay. When I choose the airplay option on my phone, the only option I get is "iPhone"

I have followed all relevant steps, my iPhone5 and apple TV are connected to the same wireless network, but I still cannot use airplay. When I choose the airplay option on my phone, the only option I get is "iPhone"

Welcome to the Apple Community Willy.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Old generation Apple TV loses wireless connection

I have an older gen Apple TV (silver).  Recently it upgraded the software...can't remember if it's ever been updated prior to that.  I've had it for at least 3 years...no problems connecting to the internet.  Now it loses connection once per day...goes OK for a few hours, then kicks out.  Seems there are many similar complaints...any answers other than buying the most recent version?  Seems to run perfectly well when it's connected.

Restart your base station or router. Sometimes this is done by turning the router off for a few seconds, and then on again, but check the documentation provided by the manufacturer.
To restart your Apple TV, press and hold Menu and Menu down/scroll for about 6 seconds, and then choose Restart from the menu.
If the issue continues after restarting, reset your router or base station and Apple TV to factory settings
Reset your base station or router. Use the documentation provided by the manufacturer to reset to factory settings.
To reset your Apple TV perform a factory restore.

  • Error while wirelessly connecting Photosmart C5280 to Apple Macbook

I have a Photosmart C5280 All-in-One connected to my PC computer. While trying to wirelessly connect my Apple Macbook to the printer this error occured: Cannot Connect to the Printer Using the Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit Connection Manager in an Infrastructure Network
    How do I fix this?

No - it won't work - AppleTV gets it's data via iTunes.
iTunes fetches data from wherever it is be it attached/internal/network drive, then relays it across the network to AppleTV.
Being able to access an iTunes style library on a NAS or similar would be great in principle but it's not possible in practice.
