    Solution :- Archive log may be stuck. Check disk space .
    start it manually with following command
    alter system archivelog start;
    or
    alter system archivlog to '/abac/dir';

  • Error "ARC0: Unable to archive..." during rman backup

    Hello DBA's!
    Problem:
    When ever I make an archivelog backup with rman it generates the following entry into the alertlog:
    Wed Jun 20 21:00:26 2007
    ARCH: Evaluating archive thread 1 sequence 9013
    Wed Jun 20 21:00:26 2007
    ARC0: Evaluating archive thread 1 sequence 9013
    ARC0: Unable to archive thread 1 sequence 9013
    Log actively being archived by another process
    I use the following RMAN-Script:
    "backup device type disk tag 'BACKUP_AL1' archivelog all not backed up 1 times;"
    The comical thing is when a usual archivlog switch happens it all works fine with no errors or problems.
    The backup also runs with no errors and after searching I found the following entry in Metalink:260040.1, it can't help me because the usual archivelog switch is working fine.
    The environment which I use is an Oracle 10.1.0.4 Database in a Cluster Environment on Windows Server.
    Maybe here is anyone with an idea?

    Thanks for the fast answer.
    I read the metalink entry "Multiple archiver processes FAQ" Note:73163.1 and now I understand why this comment comes.
    The parameter in the database "log_archive_max_processes" is set to 2 (means multiple archive processes).
    I will change paramater back to 1 because the database will handle it by itself if it need more then 1 process.

    Please advice.

    Hi,
    It's an information provided by one of the ARCH process (If you have configured more than one process then during the archiving might other process could not able to get the things to archive the log currently). That might be issue and information is logged in alert log. I think it won't not hurt your database you can monitor further in case of any other information or crutials errors.

    these are the last few lines of my DB alert log file.I have scheduled a shell script to backup all the archive log script but whenever the script is running I am getting this error.
    Can any one explain me what this means.Looks like archiving is done with out any problem.
    I am using "alter system archivelog current" in the script.
    regards
    Joe

    Although this is not a serious problem, it does cause your database to stop briefly. It indicates that you do not have enough redo log groups.
    Essentially, Oracle writes redo information to log group 1 until it is full, then switches to log group 2. While lgwr is writing to group 2, arc writes group 1 to the archive log destination. If arc is not finished archiving group 1 before group 2 fills, then it has nowhere to switch to (i.e. group 1 is not available for lgwr to write to yet). In normal operation, when Oracle is managing log switches, you would see an error about unable to switch logs from lgwr. However, by issuing the archivelog current, arc does all the work. Since it is unable to do the log switch required to archive the current log, it generates the failed to archive message, and waits for group 2 to finish archiving.
    If this is only a problem when doing the backup, you can probably ignore it. However, if you see log switch errors in normal operation, you should add another logfile group, so there will be more time between switches into any sngle group.

  • ORA-16145: archival for thread# sequence# in progress

    Hi,
    10gR2 Database is configured in Dataguard maximum performance mode with no standby redo log file.
    Archive log switching application on standby was working earlier but , it's stopped and unable to apply archive log on standby.For command 'recover standby database' it's giving ORA-16145: archival for thread#1 sequence# 5 in progress. The archive file is copied manually also ,but even though the problem persists.No archive log gap found for the secondary.the archivelogs are getting shipped properly.
    Any suggestion? Thanks..

  • ARC0: Evaluating archive   "Log actively being archived by another process"

    Hi,
    I have this messages many times on my alert log file:
    "ARC0: Evaluating archive log 2 thread 1 sequence 100
    ARC0: Unable to archive log 2 thread 1 sequence 100
    Log actively being archived by another process"
    But i'm not doing any remote archive on this database.
    I'm not having any problem on this database, i just want to know why these messages is happening if i don't have remote archive configured on my enviroment??
    Do you think that this parameter bellow will stop these messages?
    LOG_ARCHIVE_CALLOUT='LOCAL_FIRST=TRUE'
    Tks,
    Paulo

    You have multiple archivers.
    As archivers poll for redolog files, you get this message.
    Arc0 is already archiving, but arc1 will still poll for this archive.
    At least this holds true in 9i.

    They way you are trying to recover will try to recover up to the last know SCN. Try to do a point in time recover up to a few minutes before the database was shutdown or crashed.
    Try something like this
    run{
    set until time "to_date('2013-09-11:00:00:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss')";
    restore spfile from autobackup;

    restore database;
    RECOVER DATABASE;
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;

    Dear All,
    I am configuring data guard between primary and DR databases. After giving "recover standby database" command it is display following error.
    SQL> recover standby database;

    MAX(SEQUENCE#)

    I have checked archive log path and found frequently copying archive logs from sequence# 1424 and later to the physical path.
    I think this is the reason for "ORA-16145: archival for thread# 1 sequence# 1424 in progress" error.
    Please anyone advice why this continuous copying same archive logs from primary to DR.
    Thank you in advance.

    and found frequently copying archive logs from sequence# 1424 and later to the physical pathDo you mean that Oracle is automatically frequently copying the same archivelogs ? Which sequences -- e.g. does it start at 1424 and continue to 1430 and then restarts at 1424 again , running in a loop ?
    Oracle is not known to do that.
    OR do you have a background / cron / scripted job that copies the archivelogs --- and is looping ?

  • RMAN Restore Error - media recovery requesting unknown log: thread 1 seq 7

    Im using RMAN to copy a database to another server. The new server is IDENTICAL to the old one. By identical I mean it has the same sever name, ip address, operating system, Oracle version and directory structure.
    The new server already has the instance created, (same name as the old server instance, paths etc)
    The backup files have been manually restored to the new server, same locations as they were on the old one. ( RMAN did an automatic controlfile backup and also the archivelogs on the old server ).
    Ive restored the control file on the new server from the RMAN backup pieces.
    Ive catalogued the RMAN backup pieces on the new server.
    I know the last sequence available in the archivelogs backup by running on the new server :
    list backup of archivelog all;

    So far its all going swimmingly well.
    Now I want to restore the datafiles and recover. So I ran :
    RMAN run { restore database; recover database; alter database open resetlogs; }
    This gave me the output below which goes great but I get a final error, I think the error is because its looking for an archive log thats not in the backup set, but it should be. However, I think SCN 560851 is for a log that hadnt been created yet on the old server when the backup was ran ?
    How do I address resolving the error ? Its worth pointing out log, "archive log filename=C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA\SAT\ARCHIVELOG
    \2011_05_11\O1_MF_1_6_6WOK1X4W_.ARC recid=10 stamp=750881741" isnt on the old server either which is why its not in the backup set.
    I can do a alter database open reset logs but Id prefer to know why its failing.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    You need to do incomplete recovery i.e. to ask RMAN to restore/recover to some specific point in time. This is usually done with some UNTIL clause or SET UNTIL statement. Example in your case:
    SET UNTIL SEQUENCE 7;See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14194/rcmsynta065.htm#RCMRF160.
