Asset intelligence: inventoried software, based on add/remove programs?

Hi,
Please clarify where asset intelligence, inventoried software gets its data: is it reading add/remove programs
(software metering is checking .exe but inventoried software ...)?

  • Asset Intelligence, Inventoried Software is empty

    Hi!
I've been spending the whole day trying to find a solution to this problem.
We have been three people looking at it, verifying every single setting there is, but "Inventoried Software" is still empty.
The classes have been marked and the clients inventory every single application.
If I run Asset Intelligence reports I get all the data, so it is inventoried. For example the report to list inventoried softwares that falls under a specific category.
The server is running CM12 R2 with CU1, but I get the same problem in my own lab that runs R2 with CU3.
I've checked every log I can find and they are looking okay, no errors, nothing.
Does someone have an answer to this?
    Best regards

Thanks for the help all! It took something neither of us had, patience!!
Today the applications has started to roll in and all is well. I've added this feature many times before, but it has never taken this long for the list to populate... It came to mind that this is the first time I've done it on the R2 version, could it be
that this is the reason it takes so long?

  • Software Metering and Add Remove Programs Data

So, I pull a lot of data in from SCCM into our helpdesk system (Service-Now). I am trying to pull in the metering data to link it to the software installations so that from our helpdesk system, our Software Asset Managers can easily see a computer, the software
on it, the usage data, who uses it, and this all ties into our licensing information which is all stored in Service-Now. This would give our SAMs one-stop shopping for all they need.
The problem I'm seeing though is that it doesn't look like the metering data exactly or easily matches back to the data in the add_remove_programs_data table. Below is the query which I'm using to pull in all of the metering usage data:
    select sug.ResourceID, sug.StartTimeLocal StartTimeLocal, sug.EndTimeLocal, mf.ProductName, sug.ProductVersion, sug.UserName, sug.CompanyName from v_gs_softwareusagedata sug, v_MeteredFiles mf where mf.MeteredFileID = sug.FileID
The problem with this, is it seems to be dependent on the name of the metering rule. The metering rule names are all over the place, and this is making it to where about 90% of the metering data isn't matching with installations. Is there some kind of system-generated
identifier between the metering usage records and the add_remove_programs data?
If not, then this might be a futile project, as I don't like to rely on the people who create the metering rules to make sure that all of the rules are named exactly the same as the display name from the add_remove_programs_data.
    Thanks.
    Thanks

There is no direct link between ARP data and SWM data. On top of that even if you did make your SWM rules name to match the title of an ARP software. This would be invalid as, many application share the same exe name. Adobe is the biggest example. thereby
    give you wrong numbers.
Now what you might want to look at is 3rd party software that can do this.

  • Core differences between Asset intelligence and Software Metering

    Hello all,
    A small doubt,
What all are the core differences between Asset intelligence and Software Metering.
I am asked to implement License management for certain software in my environment using SCCM 2012 R2, where I should get the report on number of licenses of one particular software used during particular timing. Will this be possible using Software metering
    alone.
Is there any extra cost involved in for software metering or asset intelligence?
    Regards,
    Vishnu
    V I S H N U

    Hi,
    1. Software metering allows you to create a rule and meter application usage very granular, when it is started, how many times , how long it has been used e.t.c, Asset intellegence doesn't require you to create any rules it will only inventory start/stop
so you can get reports like "all computers that hasn't started a application in x days".
2.It depends on the license agreement for that application, but yes you can get how many has started a specific application within a timeframe.
    3.No

  • Asset Intelligence Installed Software class vs Win32Reg_AddRemovePrograms and Win32Reg_AddRemovePrograms64 classes

I am working on a script and I have read that using the Asset Intelligence Installed Software class would be more practical than using the Win32Reg_AddRemovePrograms and Win32Reg_AddRemovePrograms64 classes on a 64-bit system, because I would only have
to query just one class to get both 32-bit and 64-bit programs on a 64-bit OS.
    Is this true?
    Thanks

    Yes, true.

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

  • Add/Remove Programs - export to text file?

    Hello,
I am wondering if it is possible to export a list of everything in add/remove programs to a text file for inventory purposes.
I have not found any easy method to do this short of copying reg files or installer 3rd party software.  Since the idea is to save time neither of those are viable solutions.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

You could try this vbs script that lists installed programs and add info to a text file.

  • Custom icon in Windows Add/Remove Programs list

    Hi all,
I am developing a software with Labview 2011/2012.
When I am creating an installer for my application I am configuring icon section and I can see my icon in windows All programs section.
And I want to see this icon also in windows Control Panel/Programs and Features section. In the list of installed applications my application is without an icon I have specified.
Anybody faced with this issue? Have any idea how to figure out this?
I have also found some thread about this, but I am wondering if some new experience available since this post.

Yeah, I can't seem to come up with any other way.
But for the product ID try these steps.
To determine the value of ProductID:
Open the setup.ini file that was created with the installer.
Near the bottom, in the install.msi section, there is a key called ProductId.
The value of ProductId should be substituted in the registry key chain listed above.

  • Photoshop CC & CS6 doesn't appear in Windows Add/Remove programs

I have 2 versions of Photoshop on my Windows 7 Pro system.  CS6 I own outright and I subscribe to CC as part of a larger suite from Adobe.  I prefer CS6 and have been trying to associate .TIF files to CS6, but it won't let me.  It keeps reverting to CC, no matter what I do.  I decided to uninstall CC (even tho I'm paying a monthly fee for it), but the programs do not appear in Windows Add/Remove programs screen.  In a search of the registry, I find HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Uninstall a very long list of the program available for uninstall, and buried in some obscure Microsoft VC headings are some Adobe programs.  There are no uninstallers in the Adobe program directories, so I can't uninstall these no matter what I try.  Neither Dreamweaver or Flash appear in Add/remove either.  Is this natural?  Is there some problem I'm not aware of?  Thanks for any help and info.

Thank you.  That solved that problem.  I still can't get Windows 7 to associate TIF files to Photoshop.  It's associated to it in Bridge, but when I try in Windows control panel, the file shows as being associated to Paint.  When I try to change it, Photoshop is not even on the list of available programs.  When I Browse to the directory and click Photoshop.exe, nothing happens. The association doesn't change and Photoshop does not appear as a choice.  So I have no idea what to try next.

  • CS4 No longer in Add/Remove Programs

I installed CS4 Master Collection on my computer and had a lot of problems with it, so I decided to wipe it from my system and start over. This wasn't happening for me as it said the software was damaged.
I did a bit of research online and found that I could install a file from Adobe called CleanUp, which seemed to work at first, so I checked into the Add/Remove Programs to see if it was still installed. It was in the list, so I thought Adobe CleanUp didn't work so I tried again to uninstall from Add/Remove programs - It just popped up a message saying the software may have been already uninstalled, would I like to remove it from the Add/Remove Programs list, so I selected Yes.
But after a final check to see if CS4 really had gone, I went into the directory I first installed CS4 to, the files were still there (note: I have a custom install folder other than C:\Program Files, I save software installations to D:\Programs as my HD is partitioned and I use Vista which takes up a lot of space and the C:\ drive hardly has any to begin with, I know I know, but it came like that from the manufacturer).
So now, I can't uninstall CS4, manually or through Add/Remove Programs. I even tried to install CS4 again to see if it would just write over the current installation, but that wasn't happening for me. If anyone has any ideas or advice what I can do, that'd be great. If there is absolutely no way I can remove it, would deleting the CS4 folder cause any problems, especially as I reverted back to CS2 (the only other CS version I have right now).
    - DawnDesigner

It's a really mix to remove the CS4, in my personal opinion you probably have two options.
    1. to try to install the suite again a remove it
    2. to manually remove the folder where you install the software and through register remove from the list of add/remove software the unusable entrance for Adobe CS4
    a) run the utility regedit.exe
    b) if I'm not in a mistake it should be localized in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows\curren version\uninstall\
b.1) look arround the name that appear in the hives and just remove such which will be for the adobe CS4
    Take a look also in
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247501 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481
But first than all I recommend try to install again the suite a remove it.
by the way I hope your experience with Clean Script does not turn in a nightmare like in my case, which after running it, some links to re reference got damage as the help of MS office does not work anymore because xml files is not related to the right program or the starting of software like Windows Defender.

Nice going Lenovo with NOT listing McAfee with the add/remove programs. How do I remove it. I can't use the McAfee tool until I uninstall the conventional way via add/remove programs.

    Hello,
Have you tried the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool to uninstall the software?
If you'd like additional information, here's a blog post I wrote on how to uninstall anti-virus software:  The Secret Guide to Uninstalling Any Anti-Virus Software.  Perhaps it will be of use to you.

  • Windows 2000 prof. I noticed that I have both versions 3.6 and 6.02 installed when i checked the this in the add/remove program in the control panel. Can i remove the v3.6?

I have windows 2000 professional operating system version 5.0.2195 service pack 4 build 2195. I usually logged on as "user1". When i clicked on firefox it will try to install update but will return a message that update cannot be installed "please make sure that there are no other copies of firefox running on your computer". But there are no other copies of firefox running.
I checked the add/remove program in the control panel and found out that I have ver3.6.10 and ver6.0.2 installed.
Can i remove the ver3.6.10 using the uninstall button in the add/remove program?
Another problem is that I cannot logged in as "administrator".
When i logged in as "administrator" the computer just shut down and restart by itself while loading my desktop icons.

    The normal method is simply
    * Help -> Check for Updates
    on Firefox (Window XP)
    * see also [[Updating Firefox]]
You should be able to delete Firefox and remove it, from your Windows XP control panel although that may not be what you intend.
If you have doubts about compatibility stay with Firefox3.6 for now.
Some software extensions will currently have problems with firefox 4 (and that iircc may include some versions of silverlight )
Do NOT use any delete settings (or whatever it is worded) that will loose all your passwords and bookmarks.
BTW the safe mode in relation to Firefox is a totally different concept from Windows safe mode, but you probably have no need to use either of them.
    * see also [[Safe Mode]]
On an ordinary upgrade Firefox will preserve your profile details which include bookmarks any passwords.
You should have no problems in installing Firefox 4. You should be able to install firefox 4, and retain any bookmarks etc that were used in firefox 3.6, but sometimes extensions may be incompatible.

  • ITunes 10.5.2 failed on my Windows XP system.  Now my phone is not recognized.  I tried installing manually.  I tried to repair using Add/Remove programs.  Still get errors.

Attempted update to iTunes 10.5.2 failed on my Windows XP system.  Now my phone is not recognized.  I tried installing manually.  I tried to repair using Add/Remove programs.  Still get errors.

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
    Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive
    Good Luck!!.
