  • Hissing/Popping/Crackling/Cracking in iTunes 6.05 w/ Quicktime 7.1

    I reformatted and installed Windows 2000 Server. I used to use Windows 2000 Professional, and iTunes worked fine. Now, installing the latest iTunes 6.05 with Quicktime 7.1, I get hissing/popping/crackling/cracking at semi-random intervals (as bizarre as it may sound, with one song it seems to always occur around 10 seconds into the piece if it is the first song I play with iTunes. In another song it tends to be within the first second, but it's not as consistently within that first second as the other is at 10 seconds. After the first crackle, I usually can listen for 2-5 minutes before another crackle occurs.) . I can play the MP3's fine in Quicktime 7.1, VLC, and Windows Media Player 6.4. I'm running a Creative Soundblaster Audigy sound card. I have muted all items in Volume Control excepting Wave and Master. I have experimented toggling with the Quicktime "Sound Out" section (as suggested in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610). I have done various combinations of "safe mode" checked/not checked, 44.1/48/96 kHz, 8/16/24 bit, and Stereo/Quadraphonic. Judging from Creative documentation, it ought be 24 bit/48 kHz, but no combinations worked. I've reverted to iTunes 4 with Quicktime 6? from my iPod CD. Creative EAX and "Sound Enhancer" in iTunes are both disabled, though I have experimented with turning them on and that hasn't helped either. I have used my 5 year old Audigy drivers as well as the latest Audigy drivers. I really don't know what to do.
    It looks like the following threads concern the same topic
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=588534&tstart=15
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=588245&tstart=30
    Both of which come to no resolution.
    Just to be thorough, iTunes is installed on my system disk, a 120 gig Seagate hard drive, and my library is located on a RAID 1 array of Western Digital 120 gig hard drives. I have 640 mb of RAM and an Athlon XP 1700+ on an Abit KR7A-RAID.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    I found new symptoms to my problem. It seems the cracking only occurs when there is hard drive activity on the hard drive where my music is located. When I move a large file to and from the hard drive, the cracking is non stop. This behavior makes sense when you recall that towards the beginning of every track there is cracking as I think this is when the data is being moved from the hard drive to the RAM.
    I don't think this has to do with my music being on a Raid 1 array or the Raid controller since iTunes exhibits the same cracking when playing music off other disks, including those attached to the Raid controller and those not attached.

  • Big Problems with Audigy 4 and Vista 64

    Hi there,?I got the Audigy 4 running under Vista 64 Bit. The onboard Soundmax, connected to the speakers in my?Monitor?is acti've, too. The Audigy is connected to a 5. System from Teufel. With XP64 all ist working fine: The systemsounds come out of the monitorspeakers and the sound generated by mediaplayer etc. come from the 5. Sytem.Under Vista it is not possible to get a fine sound from the 5. System - if something is working, then only the satellites are working. The subwoofer is quiet. Also the sound from the 5. system is very bad, with a lot of breaks and so on. What?s this? How can I resolve this problem?By XP64 I have the possibility to change settings in Mediasoucecenter ... here I got nothing... rgds?McInternet?

    I'm running the Audigy 4 with Vista 64-bit and it's working okay for me. It's not great - and it's pretty substantially crippled, but I'm getting sound. I would love to have proper EAX support and just some simple bass and treble controls, but it is working for me (using the March 9th drivers).

  • Audigy 2 ZS, Vista x64: Finally got bass redirection working!

    =Audigy 2 ZS, Vista x64: Finally got bass redirection working!B Hey guys,
    I have hooked a Teufel Concept G to my Audigy 2 ZS. The Speakers do not have internal cross mix, so unless the sound card provides a bass signal there will be NO bass at all. This has not been a problem under linux, since it automatically configures the sound card to send out bass, but very frustrating in Windows Vista x64. GTA4 is no fun without bass ;-)
    After endless searching and messing with different drivers (breaking the whole vista sound system) I coincidently got bass redirection (and CMSS2 apparently) working today.
    These are the steps I took:
    . Fresh install of Windows Vista x64
    2. Installation of Audigy 2 drivers provided by WindowsUpdate, did not download from Creative Labs
    3. Use an old CtPanel-App which actually could activate bass redirection and CMSS2?
    I uploaded the App:?
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L6J0ZJVA
    If you start the App it will take ages until it pops up, but then it works just fine. Feedback appreciated!
    regards
    Tiedemate?

    I also have the same problem, sound stop working after getting SP2, I updated vista to SP2 because I want to update to windows 7, with win 7 I have try all the drivers without success I still have no sound and with some drivers I get a blue screen. After 2 restarts windows 7 ask me to fix the problem with restore and vola everything works ok but no sound.

    Thank

    Why in the world would a person use 2 soundcards makes no sense to me .Onboard sound is crap i have never liked it ......,boards should come empty no network? card or audio because that crap they use on the motherboard is a crap . I have all that crap on my board disabled because i have a fibre home network . I see no use for copper either the cable companys should all go fibre they don't want the initial cost because they are cheap .Fibre will last alot longer than copper .We arein the year 2009 not the 70's come on .

  • A Potential Solution for Pop/Crackle is

    I have Audigy 2 ZS. Recently, it crackles and pops like crazy. I have tried all methods proposed here. But none of these work. So I did some adjustment in the settings. I opened EAX Advanced HD and change Audio Effects to other options than Evironment Mode. The crackle and pop stopped. However, without environment mode, Creative SB card is just a piece of junk. The bottom line is that the driver and software provided by Creative always have?problems. As a long-term user (back in the day?when?Creative just operates in Singapore until?today), I?can't?really understand why Creative can't make a decent?products these days. I wonder what?Sim Wong Hoo is thinking. -- -

    Ask the Verizon store to exchange your iPhone for a different iPhone 4.
    UPDATE - Sure, try ckuan's solution first.  Then use mine if that fails.

  • Audigy Value: true 24-bit suppo

    Hello. Does the Audigy Value have true 24-bit support? I see a Creative application named "Device Control" that has some 24bit options, but I don't know if these are correct. Is 24-bit supported by software or hardware? If I change the option in "Device Control", will Winamp play in 24-bit's Thanks!

    Yes audigy value has 24 bit support, winamp and all cd audio only support 6 bit,except HDCD it suppports 20 bit but only when you play it in HDCD player, and in windows you can play it using Windows Media Player 0Message Edited by Clickm3 on 04-08-2006 2:20 AM

  • Usb vista to mac protocol problem

    I'm running windows vista on a virtual machine( VirtualBox) mac snow leopard as a host. Also I'm running a program with chip FTDI
    PRODUCT_NAME="FTDIChip CDM Drivers" FILE_VERSION="2.00.01.1 built by: WinDDK" ORIGINAL_FILENAME="ftserui2.dll" INTERNAL_NAME="ftserui2"
    When I sync the program prompt an error 9 subscript out of range, it seems to me a problem with usb vista to mac protocol problem.
    Any Ideas how to fix it?
    Thank you,

  • Audigy Live! 24-bit quest

    I'm using my audigy in combination with a Logitech 680-speakerset. Which allows either digital (optical) input or through 3-jacks, offering full surround in '6 Channel Direct'-mode.
    BUT...if I start a movie with DTS/AC3-signal, I press the button on my Logitech remote, so it switches to optical input, and automatically to DBII/Pro-Logic when it finds a encoded signal.
    But here is where the problem starts: - I had a REaltek 97 on-board soundchip with optical output. Which 'outperforms' the audigy lli've 24-bit in terms of ease of use! -> Driver installation AND configuration is faster, easier and still leaves much to be configured if you like. (Plus, the driver is smaller, and the config-screen doesn't has this 'skinned' interface, which I don't care about, but only slows my computer down.)
    Realtek offered me the option to switch between optical and analogue through my Logitech, but everytime I want to see a movie with Dolby Digital sound, I have to manually set the output from the Creative tool, to SPDIF. And a minute later, when I'm playing a game, I need to switch back to analogue output.
    I want output on the analogue connectors AND the SPDIF, at the same time! Just like with Realtek.
    Any solution?Message Edited by Mizitras on 03-8-200608:59 PM

    I know, it is stupid, my onboard Analog Devices SoundMax?does analog?and SPDIF in the same time, but Creative doesn't know how to do that...
    I have no answer to that except that they?have used sometime ago?the digital out as analog out too (on Li've!) and they got "stuck" with that check box in the drivers.

    What makes you think that. OpenAL works just fine on Audigy cards. Playing BF2 in vista sounds just the same as in XP on my A4.

  • Called CL support. No popping/crackling issue with XFI kno

    yeah.. after a post by Catherina i decided to post this to make sure you guys see it. If CL closes/deletes this thread they simply acknowledge that they dont want you to know the truth.
    i called CL support yesterday around 4ish, and i asked if they got an update on the crackling/popping issue. the reply was "there is no case with popping/crackling issue with XFI that is known". i called again so that i speak with someone else to see if it was the case that only off them was unaware of the situation and got same reply.
    the guys attempted to give me the entire troubleshoot again.. i told him i already done all that for the past 5 months bla bla bla.. he offered an RMA with updated firmware... i told him i already got an RMA 2 months ago...
    now WTF is going on? are they simply BSing us that they have acknowledged the issue?

    Z3RO-CooL,
    I'm not sure what you hope to achieve by starting this thread and essentially calling us liars. Customer Support have to troubleshoot a problem if someone contacts them. They won't have any new info for you yet. Others may contact Support with similar symptoms but resolve them by doing some of the troubleshooting mentioned.
    Everything I have told you here is true, we are investigating this and as soon as I have some information for you I will be posting it here.
    I'm closing this thread, not to silence you or because I "don't want you to know the truth", but because this thread was only started to cause an argument and I don't see any constructi've discussion coming from this. Please use the other thread to discuss this particular topic (crackling).

  • Audigy 2NX USB and PCMCIA 2ZS compatibil

    Currently I use an Audigy 2NX USB with my laptop. I will install the Audigy PCMCIA notebook card on the same laptop. With the USB 2NX, when it is powered off, the laptop automatically configures itself to use the internal (motherboard) sound card.
    () My understand is that with the 2ZS PCMCIA card, you need to physically remove the card (e.g. "Safely Remove Hardware") to revert to the internal sound-card speakers. Is that correct?
    (2) PCMCIA 2ZS comes with the Smart Recorder application. Can that application be also be used with the USB 2NX card enabled (and with the PCMCIA card removed) ?

    I have an Audigy 2 NX myself, and I found it works best off of a direct root usb port (not off a hub). The problem is that on most computers 2 USB ports share hub. Which is why you are having that comflict.
    My conflict doesn't happen there, it was on the mouse at first, now it's on an external IDE Adapter i'm using.
    All I do is unplug the IDE adaptor when it stops working, waiting a few seconds, then plugging it back in.
    So what I suggest is to do like I did, and switch what ports things are plugged into until it's something that can plug & unplug with no real issues.
    Why this happens, in opinion, is that there just isn't enough power getting to all the usb ports when there's alot of stuff plugged into them. My limit seems to be 7 items, even though most of them are lower power stuff, mouse, joysticks. I do have a 3.5" hd in a case, which is self powered, and the ide adaptor which is self powered, and the audigy 2 nx, which is, as you know, self powered. I can plug another item in, but anymore after that will knock my ide adaptor. and i still have usb ports i'm not even using. oh, the joysticks are on a hub which is where I usually plug another item in, either my mp3 player or thumbdri've.
    I think it most likely an electric problem, and that it only affects people with faulty usb componets or something. I haven't heard of it being widespread or specific chipset/usb controller problem. Can't think of anything else it could be, but i'm not an electrition.
    Sorry i could be of much help, but maybe you can at least make it less of a bother to deal with.
    good luck

  • Fixed Popping/Crackling on X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro

    For those having problems and tried all the IRQ fixes+ unofficial drivers but failed..
    You might want to use this DPC latency tool
    http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
    You can read how to use it from the website.
    Anyways, I isolated my problem down to my gigabyte motherboard EasyTune software [used it for fan control]. Audio is working fine now.

    Re: Fixed Popping/Crackling on X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro That spikes (they are rear but they do occur)?im geting is during playing World of Warcraft. So when all components are under (some) load. Doing this tests when you dont do anything seems kinda pointless And ye if you dont notice any issues you shouldnt worry about dpc spikes/latency anyway. This was more like and experiment, when i saw people complaining and i notice on nvidia forums that "dpc fixes just missed 96.75 drver release", so i went and check it out what the hell this actualy is. So also people that are runing nvidia cards and have sound issues, update to latest nvidia driver (97.x+) it might resolve your issues. Also as far as i know occesional spikes are to be expected, whats bad is, when you constant latency is high (over 500ms). This shows as unusual fps drops and/or sound crackling. I personaly suspect that lots of problems about this is actualy caused by something else and not creative driver/card. Known "bad" drivers are lots of times also network drivers, so people should keep updated those as well...

  • Audigy 2 ZS + Vista = Crackl

    I'm running an Audigy 2 ZS with Windows Vista (32-bit) and the latest drivers on a ASUS P4P800 Delxue. I bought a new set of speakers thinking the crackling was coming from there. I was saddened to find out that this was not the case. I still have a constant crackling noise that is driving me nuts! Audio is essentially **useless** because of it. It has been going on for quite some time now, probably starting with the Windows Vista upgrade earlier this year.
    I have tried:
    * All of the values in the PCI latency settings
    * Resetting the BIOS settings to the default
    * Moving the card around in different PCI slots
    * Removing the Hauppauge WinTV card
    * Taking the second hard dri've off the bus
    Nothing has given me any sense of progress. My IRQs are as follows:
    * IRQ0 - Intel 8280EB SMbus Controller - 24D3
    * IRQ6 - Intel 8280EB USB Uni'versal Host Controller - 24D2
    * IRQ6 - Intel 8280EB USB Uni'versal Host Controller - 24DE
    * IRQ6 - ATI Radeon 9800 PRO
    * IRQ8 - Intel 8280EB - Ultra ATA Storage Controllers
    * IRQ8 - Intel 8280EB USB Uni'versal Host Controller - 24D7
    * IRQ8 - Intel 8280EB USB Uni'versal Host Controller - 24D4
    * IRQ2 - Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM)
    * IRQ22 - 3Com Gigabit LOM (3C940)
    * IRQ22 - Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II (Encoder/Decoder)
    * IRQ22 - OHCI Compliant IEEE 394 Host Controller
    * IRQ23 - Intel 8280EB USB Uni'versal Host Controller - 24DD
    There are two hard dri'ves in the system, a 20GB Seagate, and 500GB
    * ASUS P4P800 Deluxe (BIOS rev 09)
    * Creative Audigy 2 ZS + I/O Dri've Connectivity
    * Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350
    * LG GCC-4480B DVD-ROM / CD-RW
    * Seagate 20GB ST300026AS SATA Hard Dri've
    * Western Digital 500GB WS5000AAKS SATA Hard Dri've
    Does anyone have thoughts on what next? I see there is a 84+ page thread on X-Fi crackling issues, so I'm not likely to run out and switch up the video cards to see the problem continue further.

    I can't help unfortunately, but I have a crackling problem myself with Vista 32 bit edition. I have a Sound Blaster Audigy SE running on a Gigabyte P35-DS3P motherboard. ALL the time during any audio playback, there is persitent crackle/skipping. Sometimes I'll go 0-5 seconds without it, but it pops back up randomly. My speakers are fine, when I was using onboard sound there were no crackle issues at all. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I'm going to return the card if I cant fix it soon, I was hoping it would be an upgrade from the onboard sound I have, but it is worse ATM due to this crackling. BTW, there are no other devices on the PCI bus other than my video card.
