Audio Line-in doesn't work....

When trying to use my audio line in port, i.e. in Logic Express, or using Amplitube, all i get is a popping when i try and select the line in as the audio input instead of the built in mic. Also in Logic Express/Pro i have no record function and i cant seem to get it to recognise the audio in port in that either.
I was running Logic pro and before that express on my emac about 2 months ago and i had no problem, and used the same copy on my iMac...

Hi,
It's been a while since I've used Logic, but to remedy the clicking/popping try increasing the amount and size of Disk Buffers (Process Buffer Range). Also, play around with the Audio Buffers (I/O Buffer Size) or reduce it: particularly if it is already set at 1024 samples. You can find these under Audio Preferences and Drivers - Core Audio in Logic.
The clicking and popping noises when you use the built-in line on your iMac sounds like a lack of RAM. If you're not using a Universal version of Logic then it will use more RAM and Processor time on an Intel-Mac due to having to run through Rosetta. The amount RAM you have and the amount of Audio Buffers the programme can handle are in direct correlation - the more RAM you have, the higher the buffer sample rate you can use.
And to remedy the issue with no record function - you need to set up your Audio In and Out as an Aggregate Device. If you don't know how to do this already:
Go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities and launch Audio MIDI Setup. Once open press ShiftCommandA or go to the audio menu on the start bar. The Aggregate Device window will open and display any devices already created (I assume that there won't be any). Click on the + button just below the top pane to create a new device and the - button to delete a device. Click on Aggregate device in the top pane (if it's not already selected), and in the bottom pane check the use box next to the Audio Devices you wish to include (in this case Built-in Input/Output. Next to each Audio Device the number of in's and out's will say 2 - this is normal as the Built-in In/Output are capable of both Analogue and Digital signals.
Back in Audio MIDI setup you can adjust the properties (bit rates/frequency etc.) for the Aggregate Device. The next time you open Logic the Aggregate device should be visible in the Drivers pane of audio Properties, which you can then choose to use. If not, go to sound in System Preferences and set your default In/Out to Aggregate Device.
Hope that helps.

  • Audio out port doesn't work well

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro 13-inch, Early 2011. Since I bought it I always use my Mac whit headphones, but since a month it only works well the left headphone. I think that the problem it was my headphones but no, because I used it on my phone and workes well. So i come to the conclusion that the audio out port doesn't work well. What you think? And what you recommend to me to fix this problem?

Probably still under warranty, but not for long. Take it to the Apple Store or AASP to have it checked ASAP.

  • Audio Line-In Port Not Working

I plugged a Shure mic into the Audio-In Port and is doesn't work. I'm using FCP Voice-Over but I get no audio on Soundtrack either. Worked with all the settings and preferences for audio. Also tested a second mic which also doesn't work. I read some people had problems with Audio-In Port after upgrading to 10.4.10. I ran a check for audio updates, there are none that I haven't installed. Why can't I seem to make a simple mic work when it's been so simple previously?

Your Mac does not have a microphone input, only a line-level input (in fact, no Mac has included a microphone input in quite a while). So you'll need 1) a self-powered microphone that outputs line level, 2) a USB microphone, or 3) an external audio device that supports microphone inputs, either a mixer that will give you line-level output or a USB audio input device. One possibility for a USB device that works for many people and that is relatively inexpensive (ca $40.00 US) is the Griffin iMic. It works with any standard personal computer microphone.

  • Embedded audio in PDF doesn't work

    Hello,
I have a PDF-file with embedded MP3-files. I am up-to date with the latest versions of adobe reader and flash player. I just updated the software, even restarted the computer. But the audio in my PDF doesn't play..nothing clickable...
I am using Macbook Pro and running mountain Lion.
    Anybody anny suggestions?
    Regards, Sven

Hi Eric, thanks for your answer.
Yes I have,  originally I always used preview to read pdf's. I have now installed acrobat reader, because of this audio problem. But in Acrobat it doesn't work either.

  • Update audio in library doesn't work

I'm using Captivate 6.0.1.240 and the Update function for audio in the library does not work. To replace audio, I must delete the existing and import the new audio. I've tried every way I can think of; just doesn't work!

    Sreekanth,
Yes, I did try the methods that you mentioned. Plus, I tried double-clicking the audio file on the timeline. In the “Slide Audio” dialog window, I chose Add/Replace, selected the same name file from the directory, and selected “Yes” when asked if I was sure I wanted to change the audio file. It still maintained the old file.
Trying further to resolve this, I discovered that the “Update” function DOES NOT work when using .wav files. So I converted all of my audio to mp3 format. It DOES work as it should when using .mp3 files.
    Thanks for your interest.

  • Installed Camtasia which wanted Soundflower and now line-input doesn't work

I installed the Camtasia demo which asked to install Soundflower to get the audio recording working, then I went to skype and my mic/headset (attached to the line-input) no longer worked. I've tried attaching different headsets to the same input, visiting System Preferences / Sound and tapping the mic, but nothing seems to fix it, and I haven't installed anything else, so it has to be Soundflower doing something to affect the line-input.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there any easy fix?

Thanks, I've tried that but they haven't responded yet. I wondered if anyone on the apple forums had seen a similar problem...

  • Audio line -in : doesn't seem to be responding

    Hi
My audio line-in port doesnt seem to be working any more.
Does anyone have any advice to help me trouble shoot this issue.
Ive already tried third party recording apps and a new set of mic-headphones but still nothing appears to be coming through.....it worked fine previously and was used often.
It may be an emac hardware issue or a system issue where i updated to Tiger a few months ago.
But perhaps it's something else !?
    thanks for your time.

    1. The type of headset im using is manufactured and ubiquitous for use with any pc or laptop
    see for example :
    http://ooscare.com/products/141_H261N-2%20Binaural%20Headset%20wbpic1.jpg
    or
    http://www.techfresh.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/plantronics-mono-headset-for -internet.jpg
    or
    http://thevoipgirl.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/headset.jpg
which are close to the ones i use. I know they're the cheap end but they are very common - Don't they just get their voltage from the mac itself ??
    Also
    2. Mine worked fine until recently - which means i was able to speak into the mic and hear it in software and adjust the audio input level in the O.S. sound prefs and now can no longer do this because when i have line-in selected as my source it's not showing any reciept signal in the display level indicator.
The simple fact that i was previously for several years able to operate one of these mic head-sets suggests that the issue must lie elsewhere and is has not been about the headset amp level as you suggested- My concern is that it is something to do with the OS Tiger which i recently updated to .....simply because it's the only major change i have in the recent past - i can't think what else it could be or what trouble shooting procedures to follow on this type of problem....

  • In-line mic doesn't work

I want to speak through the Apple headset (earphone with mic on it) but it doesn't work. I chose 'line in'.

I bought mine earlier this year, before the newer one came out.
Funny thing is, I can choose to speak into the mic on the Apple earphone when I used Windows by Parallels.

  • Installed Yosemite - audio line out no longer working

After installing Yosemite, sound will only play from my Mac Pro's internal speakers.
Opening Preferences > Sound and selecting Line Out has no effect.
Why does the Line Out no longer work with Yosemite?

    Update:
Seems issue with keyboard volume not working crops up again each time the system enters "sleep" mode.
Volume controls will visually make the volume appear to adjust on screen, but not affect sound level to external speakers.
Only solution I've found so far is a reboot.
Never encountered this with Maverick's or any previous OS.

  • Audio crossfade tool doesn't work?

    Hi ,
Maybe its a well known bug but reading in the Apple pro training book by Martin Sitter , I noticed that the fade tool in the Arrange window doesn't work.
Or am I doing something wrong?
(B.t.w. This tool isn't discribed in the standard manual??)

  • My audigy 2 nx line-in doesn't work. help m

My external soundcard was working correctly few days ago. But after a virus attack, I had to reinstall windows XP, the audigy 2 NX and CUBASE LE. I can hear the microphone input but not the line-in input with a keyboard. WHYYYYYYYYY ?? It was OK before that.
This is the same problem with the freeware software kristal so I think it's coming from the soundcard or its driver.
(second question : do you understand my french-english ?)

    Rob,
Well if it isn't working on either input then it is most likely a software problem. Is this a platinum version of the Audigy 2? If so you may want to check your mixer and make sure that line2/mic2 is also unmuted to test from it. If this isn't a Platinum dri've, was this card installed in a prebuilt system? Then the front connecter may override the back one. I would launch the Window's mixer, go to options and make sure that every control has a checkmark in it. Then go down the line and make sure nothing is muted. This is mainly a double check step.
I am not sure what else could cause the line in not to work, you might want to consider contacting support directly in this case.

  • Line in doesn't work Sound Blaster Audigy 2 - yes mute is off! - any ide

    Hi,
I've been puling my hair out trying to hook my decks line out to line in on sound card Sound Blaster Audigy 2 (sold with PC). The sound card works fine for TV etc but I can't get any sound from line in for external devices. I've tried hooking up other devices such as iPod and Hifi and can't get any line in devices to play through my PC.
I've run the diagnostics test and tests complete succesfully.
Any ideas about how to get this sorted? Is this a known problem? Any other settings I can check on my PC?
I've searched the forums and can't see any messages related to this subject apart from one and the suggested solution was to check the mute button wasn't on, obviousy I have checked this one ;o), and the problem is elsewhere.
HELP!!! I'm dying to get a mix recorded onto MP3!!!
Thanks a lot for your help!
    Regards

  • FaceTime audio half duplex / doesn't work simultaneously

I gave my parents a new iPad Air for Christmas.  Note: They are 'older' and have a lot of trouble operating electronic devices.  Before sending it to them I did check for recent updates, set up their email and contacts, installed some apps that I  find useful and uploaded some photos.  Otherwise it's a fresh unit right out of the box.
Yesterday we tried facetime with them.  The video worked as it should.  The audio seemed to be in a 'half duplex' mode on our device.  Meaning, they could hear us perfectly and normally on the iPad.  We could only hear them when we were perfectly quiet.  Any sounds or talking on our end would mute their transmission during and about 1 second after speaking.
We tried multiple calls.  (I called them and then they called me).  We tried an iphone 5 and a MacBook, the problem was consistant in all cases.  During one of our calls on the mac, my brother placed a facetime call to my phone and his connection worked perfectly, while my parent's connection continued to have the issue.
I sent them the following instructions, in hopes that it may fix the issue, but I'm doubtful.  I don't have an iPad handy (only iphones and the mac in our house) so there may be some settings that are present on the iPad and not on the iphone that they should try.  Any and all help would be appreciated!   They live on Kauai, HI so if there are any places there that would be helpful that they could visit, I would appreciate the recommendation.
Go into settings, scroll down until you see facetime. Select it. There will be some settings for facetime. One simply says facetime and there is a small green slider button next to it. Touch the button. It should slide and turn white. This disables facetime.
Go to settings, then general, then software update. It should say "checking updates" and then will either display your version (7.0.4 ?) OR it will say there is a new update and you can download it. If so, download/install. (Should be a button asking and just hit yes or ok).
    Next, do a network reset:
Go to settings, general, scroll down to "reset". Select reset and then select "reset network settings". It will ask if you want to do this and yes, you want to do it.
Next, After all this is done, reboot the ipad. This is done by pressing and holding the top (power/sleep) button and the home button down at the same time. Hold it for 30-seconds maybe longer until the screen goes black and then the apple logo appears. Then let go.
(If you hold just the upper button for 5 seconds a red slider will appear to allow you to turn off the ipad. For a reset just ignore that and keep holding down the buttons).
Once it reboots, add yourself back to your network. It may ask on its own, but if not :
Go to settings, then wi-fi. Select your network and enter your password.
Last, go into settings, general, facetime and turn it back on by touching the white slider button. It should turn green.
I found two other cases that sounded like mine:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22808569#22808569
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22705969?searchText=Facetime%20duplex#2270 5969

My parents called apple tech support.  I'm not exactly sure what they did, but I think they just rebooted the iPad again, as done previously.  It seems to be working better now, although it does still cut out now and then from sounds on my end of the line.
Another thing that seems to have helped, I determined that my parents had left it in the original plastic packaging and then crammed it into the case I gave them, which may have slightly muffled their microphones.
Anyway between these two things it is working better.  We can speak on this end and still hear them talking.  But now and then it still cuts out.

  • Audio line-in port stopped working properly

I started to have a perplexing problem that I narrowed down to the audio in-put port on my Mac Pro (MacPro3,1). It was working fine then the sound level increased and the quality became distorted (like a "fuzz base" but affecting all sounds).
I was in the process of digitizing records, and believed the record played broke. So I got a new record player (audio-technica AT-LP120-USB). The same thing occurred with the audio in-put port, so I switched to the USB port and the audio was fine. I also checked with music already on my HD and it played fine. Consequently it has to be the in-put line port and/or a software issue.
I checked BBs but could not find a similar issue.
    Any suggestion?  Thanks in advance.

Since this is a Mac Pro question I'll request this be moved to the Mac Pro forum.  You posted in the PowerMac forum which is pre-Intel Macs.
