Audio Mixing Board for PPCS4

Does anyone know of or use an audio mixing board that would control the audio mixer in PPCS4?  One that moves the slider in PP when the physical sliders on the board are moved.  Thanks

It is an area that would get a lot of flexing and pressure. I bet someone that knows how to solder can fix those up just fine.

  • __is there a way to save a preset for audio mixer settings...??

    I have CS5
Looking to speed up the process so that I don't have to redo the audio mixer settings for every project - rather just tweak where needed.
So wanted to setup the audio mixer how I want it - and just have it set as default for all projects or have some automated way to apply the same audio mixer settings to each new project.
What's the best way to do this my people ?
    Thanks!

I agree with Jim Simon.  Creating your own template is a good workaround to what would be a good feature.
The ability to save audio presets (and more) is in my feature request list for Pr:

Please add your voice to the chorus requesting this feature, and any (or all) of the other useful features on my list.  Adobe listens.  Strength in numbers.   Here's the feature request link:

  • What do I need to add a mixing board to my G4?

I have a G4 and I want to add an external audio mixing board. I don't have any A/V options on the G4. Is there a card or something I can add to it so I can plug in the board?
    Thanks very much.

    Hi,
Who made your mixing board? Does is have USB or Firewire ports? Or just serial ports?
There are a number of cards on the market that should fit the bill. One company you might look at is Mark of the Unicorn .
With more info, we can narrow done the options better.

  • Best recommended mixing board with usb or lightning output to iMac or iPad for GarageBand?

    hi,
set-up - 2010 iMac w/ intel core i7 processor @ 2.8 GHz, 16 GB RAM, latest mac os x 10.9 "maverick" update and the latest version updated of garage band; also, iPad third generation 64 GB wi-fi only with the latest version of iOS 7.0.3 and iOS GarageBand app v. 2.0 (3090.25). i also have the adapter apple sold for the iPad that gives it a usb interface - this was for usb sticks that had photos, but i'm hoping it'll work well with GarageBand also.
i'm wanting to do some podcast audio recording with multiple inputs (audio round table discussion setting), as well as some home studio recording (mostly acoustic guitar work). i already have several good mics.
i am looking for a mix board that will interface well with digital output to the GarageBand on the iMac, preferably to both the iMac and the GarageBand app on the iPad also. i want the mix board to have some form of _modern_ digital out, preferably usb (but could work, maybe, with lightning/thunder). the iPad is for when i want to record something on the road for a podcast, the iMac stays in my home office/studio. i'm looking for a mix board fitting these specs that i could pick up fairly reasonably on ebay or the like.
i've looked a bit at tascam and alesis. i was wondering what folks here might recommend and what their experience is? also, if not a mix board, then what would you recommend for a multiple digital interface input of the mics, say four or five at a time, going into the iMac or iPad for live recording?
i look forward to your advisement, stories and tips on this. thank you.

It looks like these boards are "class compliant" USB, meaning there are no drivers to install, it's basic plug-and-play.
To use it in Garageband you would have to go to (Garageband) preferences and set it up as the recording/playback device.  The Mac's system preferences have nothing to do with a (decent) audio program's audio device selection.
    Garageband probably defaults to built-in-audio.
The problem you will have is that the USB output is probably stereo only. You can record multiple inputs, but only as a stereo Mix. (or two mono tracks). I say probably because I don't really know. It doesn't prevent you from laying down tracks one (stereo) or two (mono) at a time.

  • Audio Out To A Mixing Board

Is there some way to hook up an external mixing board to a Mac and use that for audio mixing instead of using the faders in FCP? My wife can do this at work with an AVID but I'm trying to figure this out with FCP so I can automate a mix.
Maybe I'm asking for too much?
    Thanks in advance.

I have a Tascam FW1082 and I can use it to adjust the audio levels in FCP...using the mackie control interface.

  • I just bought a docking station for my iPad so I could plug into a mixing board and record a live show.  I was disappointed at the time limitation for the recordings.  What is the maximum amount you can record a song into GB for the iPad?

I purchased a docking station for my iPad so that I could record a live recording of my band directly from a mixing board this weekend using GarageBand.  Unfortunately, I was unaware of the song length limitations of the iPad version of this program.  Basically, was unable to capture more than 15 minutes of the gig.  I've read other conversations on this forum and can't really determine the maximum amount of time this application can record.  Can anyone tell me how long GarageBand for ipad can record at one single time and how to adjust the settings to achieve this?  Also, is anyone aware of any other apps than could be used to record a longer please share.  Thanks.
    CP

I received an email reply from George, the Founder and CEO of Studiomini, he indicated to me that their app does not have any time limitations in regards to recording like GB does, you are only limited by the amount of free space on your iPad.  Fo what it's worth, I think the Alesis IO Dock is an amazing piece of equipment.  I would highly recommend purchasing the IO Dock and plugging your mixing board into the dock to capture your rehearsal.  Hopefully the feedback I received from Studiomini is accurate and I can capture my entire rehearsal at one time.  I hope this feedback helps.  One last note, apparently their will be a update soon to view Studiomni in the landscape view on the iPad instead of just the portrait view.

  • Hardware for Premiere's Audio Mixer?

    Hey Adobe Community!
I probably know the answer to this question but I'll ask the experts, you guys, to be certain of it
When Im 'teching out' and getting very perfectionist with my edits, a mouse and digital mixer on premiere just cant satisfy me.
I've been wondering....is there a hardware device somewhere in this tech savvy world that can be programmed to adjust the audio tracks individually in premiere's audio mixer? To fine tune each track to your liking without having to click here and there?
I thought the ShuttlePro V2 can do that but it's more towards the actual video editing.
If anyone can provide me any possible info, or 'hack' so to speak, or straight up tell me it's not possible, then it can settle my mind a lot.
    Thanks in advance peeps.

So any device that has the Mackie Protocol can work with premiere? Even if there is a control surface that was made primarily for AVID, as long as it has the Mackie Protocol it can work for premiere?
And is it just the Mackie or can other protocols such as ENCON or Red Rover (just saw an adobe video stating these other control surface protocols)?

  • Better work flow for final audio mix

    Hi everyone,
I just finished a 20min documentary shot on miniDV. I did the offline cut on my Powerbook G4 then took it to a post house for online and recording the narration and final mix.
They exported my project to Pro Tools for the audio work. Evidently, when exporting to PT, all my level settings and audio transitions are lost, and we had to re-mix everything from scratch.
Is this the typical work flow? This is my first paid gig as director/editor, so I'm new at this. But it seems quite ineffiecient.
Is there a way to export my audio with all my audio settings intact? or at least the level settings. That way, the mixing engineer can fine-tune my rough mix rather than re-mixing from scratch. I'm wondering because I'm cutting another 20min piece where the audio mix, as rough as it is, is quite intricate, and I'd hate to have to re-do it all in PT.
I suppose one way around this is to work with Soundtrack Pro. But I'm living in Vietnam, and the post houses/recording studios all use Pro Tools.
    Thanks.

When we send out audio for sweetening we export the show as an OMF 2 file. This allows the PT folks to start with your exising clips and settings and then change them accordingly.
From FCP you select your sequence and goto file>export>Audio to OMF. We usally give them a version with transitions and one without selectable on the export window. Once the OMF file is created you then image to a disk and hand it over. In return, they will give you bavk an OMF file which you reimport into your show and sync with your show. If your show starts at the 01 hour mark, start the show with one frame of bars and tone. Then have your show start two seconds later. This will make it easy for you to match back up. Also, you should give them a QT of the show with the same one frame of bars and tone for a visual reference for them.
    Hope that helps.

  • Audio mixing (track not clip) .Precise level entry for KF levels?

Ive done a lot of tutorials on setting and mixing audio levels, both clip and track in PrP 5.5 . I want to know the best way to add a keyframe on the timeline (in track audio mode) and enter a precise db setting. Dragging up and down is pretty random and not accurate, especially when setting levels for 2 mono tracks for stereo.
I am not interested in using the track mixer in live mode because again it is to inaccurate and needs cleaning up. I tried right clicking on the keyframes and got everything EXCEPT the ability for numeric entry. A real basic function for audio mixing.

Well, upon further inspections its the CLIP volume key frames that are displayed in the Audio Effects area. When you are trying to do TRACK key frames on the timeline, its necessary to click on the SHOW KEY FRAMES icon at the start of the TL audio track. When you switch to SHOW TRACK  KEY FRAMES suddenly the clip cannot be loaded in the SOURCE window (which kind of makes sense) and so the TRACK key frames are not visible for numeric entry.
So the problem with no ability for numeric entry assigning key frames a db still exists.

  • What to do when the client asks for changes after final audio mix?

Sometimes a client will want changes after the final audio mix has been done. That is, I've already sent the project from Premiere Pro to Audition, done a master mix, and sent it back to Premiere Pro. If I'm then asked to make changes to the video, I don't know of any way to preserve the work I've already done in Audition and just update it with changes. I find myself making the changes in Premiere Pro and re-sending the whole project back to Audition for a completely new mix. This isn't very time efficient, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can update a project in Audition with changes in Premiere Pro without having to start again?
Obviously it's best to have picture lock before doing the final mix, but things happen and people change their minds.
    I'm working in CS6.
    Thanks
    Carolyn

"The only question I have is whether it is possible to save any of the work
I've done in Audition when I am resending back from Premiere."
    A: Absolutely
"When I add more elements to my sequence and unmute the original track and export the
new sequence to Audition, I am basically starting on a fresh mix, right?"
    A: Yes
    "It's a new sequence?"
No. It's the same sequence. But without the tracks (stems) you previously had in it.
"The only option seems to be to overwrite. My question is whether I can save any of the work I've already done in Audition- there is often a couple of hours of work in already.
A: Before you do anything, save whatever work you've done in Audtion as a session.

  • Editing After Laying Final Audio Mix Into The Time Line - Possible?

    Hello Board,
I finished my film recently and layed the final audio mix (stereo track) into the timeline, replacing all the seperate audio tracks. Now, I want to go in and do some edits at the beginning of the movie.
I still have the main video tracks and several other video tracks for noise filter, credits, etc.
Is it possible to link the video track with the stereo audio file and keep everything synced as I make the cuts to eliminate the need to remix the sound?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Lin

Because the video and audio aren't linked, I'm using the razor tool to cut in and out point on the timeline, first to the video and then to the audio seperately. after marking the spots with the razor tool, I delete the unwanted area in between (I do both to the video and audio track) and then pull the pieces together on the video and audio tracks. So far it has stayed synced.
In your case, Lin, I'd recommend using Add Edit and Ripple Delete instead of the Blade tool and the other steps you're doing.
    That is...
    1. At the point where you want to cut, press Control-V (that's Add Edit)
    2. At the next point where you want to cut, press Control-V again
    3. Select the region to be cutout and press the Del key, that's the key below Help and to the left of End on your keyboard, not the Delete key.
(This is a Ripple Delete, which clears the selection and moves all clips to the left, leaving no gap)
However it seems like doing transitions would be hard because unless I can match the space on the audio track it will all go out of sync.
I'm honestly confused by what you mean about 'space on the audio track' and things not matching - care to clarify?

  • Digital Mixing board recommendations?

I've had Logic Express 7 for about a year. I've been using my 4-track as a mixing board up till this point. My 4-track just got stolen so I want to replace it with a digital board that I can use to record multiple tracks independently and then mix them after I have recorded them. I don't need a lot of tracks, just some options. I want to make sure that the board I get is compatible with the computer and logic express and that I can plug it in and go, or, do I need other stuff too? I don't really want to spend a ton either.... and suggestions?

    Hi,
Well...for a good quality mixing board that is digital, you're looking to spend a few grand. There are some options which I have used before with sucess, like the Tascam DM-24,now not in production, which can run you about 1,500 USD for a used one. Also you can check out products by Yamaha as well, they are good too.
It seems though, that if you are only planning to do 4-8 channels of simultaneous recording (recoring-at-one-time) you can get away with using a multichannel audio interface, and mixing all "inside-the-box" i.e. in the computer itself.Logic is quite good at that.
Here's a rough demo of mine done completely in Logic Pro,and even exported using Logic's mp3 encoder:

  • Using a mixing board as a pre amp?

    Hey all,
I have a decent little M-Audio audio interface but I'd like to record more than 2 real instrument tracks simultaneously for a recording session. I believe I can record up to 8 real instrument tracks at any given time with GB3 and was wondering if I am able to use a mixing board as a pre amp much like my audio interface? If so, how do I connect it up?
Here's the link to our board:
    http://www.behringer.com/UB2222FX/index.cfm?lang=ENG
    Thanks!
    Jay.

For 8 channels you'd need a FireWire interface or mixing console that offers at least 8 channels out.
An example, the interface I use, the Presonus FirePod FireWire Audio Interface
8 Mic PREs and 10 channels out (GB can use 8 of those)

  • Audio Mixer FCP X

I have a project that I do on a regular basis. It is a dance recital where i have live sound picked up from a mic on the stage for audience participation and tap sound in my left channel.
The right channel is a direct connect to the sound board main out that is only music.
Currently I am using FCP 6. FCP 6 has a audio mixer where I can adjust the left channel and right channel independently so that I have a good mix between live sound where the tap is not too overbearing and the music. Different dances require different mixes and there may be 70 different dances. Some are 1 person tap, some are 30 peron tap. you can imagine how loud 30 tap dancers can be. Thank god for my mixer.
Even though my left channel may be way lower than the right channel, the Output left and right are balanced, even. I am not sure why, but I believe that my mixer treats each channel as an input. It has a master output where i am able to get the master outpus equal in volume. This has been working great.
I am now testing out FCP X and all I can see is a panner for each channel. OK, I can pan BUT I am left withwide differnce in left and right channel output levels.
I have been looking for a mixer plug in  but I cant find anything.
Anyone know of a good mixer plugin??
    Thanks

DO you want a mixer or just to see both channels. If the clips are set to dual mono and you use the expand audio components function, you'll see both channels and be able to control them independently.

  • Mixing board

I have Apple Logic Express, and I will be upgrading to full Logic. I am looking for a mixing board that supports Logic so I can use pan knobs and faders to control recording and playback rather then the mouse. Any suggestions?

Is there any reason why you need a "mixing board" - ie one that actually mixes audio internally outside of Logic, versus a "control surface" which looks like a mixer (faders, knobs, transport etc) but actually is a just controller for Logic (ie no audio is mixed by the controller, it stays totally within Logic?)
If you want a control surface, then I recommend the Mackie Control, or the Euphonics Mix series controllers.
If you actually want an analog or digital mixer, that's a different set of recommendations. You also don't mention a budget, so I'm just saying what I recommend. There are budget options, but there are vastly inferior (but again, you don't mention any requirements, so perhaps a budget controller is all you need.)
