Audio needs rendering...

..not sure why either.
Editing ProRes footage from a Sony NX5
Timeline has native settings
Audio is needs to be rendered if I cross fade the camera's audio
tracks when its on top of a music track (aiff). Also the video track has red,
orange and sometimes blue lines at the bottom of the thumbnails. I
have not seen this before.

In Final Cut Pro, go to the menu Help and select Final Cut Pro Help.
When the widow opens, select the Final Cut Pro 7 User Manual.
When that opens, search for "Options for Displaying Duplicate Frames"
Hope this helps.

  • Sequence is DV-PAL, clips are DV-PAL, but Audio needs rendering in Timeline

    Hello everyone.
I'm just getting started with FCE 4. Here's my problem: i set up FCE with the easy configuration to work in DV-PAL. Then i copied some clips i had captured with iMovie 06 from an old project file to another folder on my external firewire harddrive. I then imported these clips into FCE. These clips are also in DV-PAL, since they came from a DV-camcorder. The videotrack is fine, but the audiotracks are only played back in the viewer but not in the canvas/timeline. All i get there are the beeps, which indicate they have to be rendered. If i do render them, the audiotracks are played back in the timeline as well, but from what i've read in this forum and elsewhere, rendering shouldn't be necessary at all when the sequence and videoclips have the same format. Any ideas why the audiotracks need rendering?
    Thanks and regards, Thorsten

    Hi there!
Fortunately, importing iMovie footage was only some kind of quick way to get at least some footage into FCE to experiment with. I only got FCE a few days ago and had no new Footage on tape, so i thought i might as well use already captured video files. I know better now and won't mix up any projects. Although i have some very useful plug-ins for iMovie like the gee three image stabilization. That's something that (as far as i know) FCE can't do. So i do think about using both programs. Not on whole projects, but probably on single clips. Like working on shaky footage in iMovie, then exporting it as a single clip in QuickTime so that FCE can work with it. Could be a little too much hassle, though. I'll see when i try it.
    Best regards,

  • Audio Needs Rendering After Modification

I have a 48.00 KHz, 32-bit Floating Point sequence.  My primary audio is 48.00 KHz, 16-bit, so no rendering needed.
I am also using some sound FX at 44.1 KHz, so they need to be rendered.  I recently learned about SEQUENCE > RENDER ONLY > ITEM LEVEL.  It works fine, and even if I make changes to the 44.1 track thereafter, there is no need to render again.
Here is my problem: Most of my project was rendered using SEQUENCE > RENDER ALL > BOTH.  I have up to 8 audio tracks and now, when I add audio, even 48.00 KHz, I have to rerender everytime I make a change, e.g., volume or position on the timeline.  I try RENDER > ITEM LEVEL, but it doesn't do anything.  The only render option that works is RENDER ALL and I have to do it after every little change.
    Thank you!

I'm just very confused.  Now, when I put two identically created 48.00 KHz audio tracks in the timeline, I need to render; however, by themselves, I don't need to render.
Also, when they are together elsewhere on the timeline without any other audio tracks, I do not need to render.  For some reason, in one particular spot, I need to render if they are together.  If I inch either one along the timeline, the render bar goes away.
I've tried closing and reopening FCP.
    This is really wierd...

  • ProRes audio needs rendering?

    Hello,
I've just done I haven't done before. I've converted some MP4 video files from a Blackberry Playbook to ProRes and imported them into Final Cut. I've adjusted the settings of the FC sequence to ProRes etc. All the files are there and play well in the Viewer but when I edit and put a piece into the Timeline I have to render the audio. Have I left out some setting? Or is this for some reason natural?
    Thanks.
    John

I converted them in Compressor. I also can recall getting a message on the screen yesterday in FC asking me if I wanted to reconcile the audio and I clicked yes.
I've just created a new sequence and dropped a clip into it. Same problem - red line on top demanding that I render the audio. I suspect that the message you referred to did not appear as it did  yesterday. (Wish I could remember exactly what it said.)
    Here's what's in my Audio/Video Settings:
    Sequence Preset: Apple ProRes (HQ) 1280 X 720 30p 48 kHz
Capture Preset" HDV- Apple ProRes (HQ).... (I didn't think the Playbook was HDV but there is only one ProRes (HQ) setting to choose from. Also this shouldn't matter as the files were converted in Compressor and directly imported.)
    Device Control: Firewire NTSC
Video Playback: [missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720X 480)
    Audio Playback: default

  • Audio needs to be rendered every time

I did a project this week which required me to change my sequence settings to PAL, 44.1KHz audio. I since changed back the sequence settings to easy setup DV NTSC, so I shouldn't have any problem with new sequences. Even so, any time I drop a QT movie into a new sequence, the audio needs to be rendered just to hear it. These are movies that play fine in QT. They are DV-NTSC movies with the audio rate at 44.1KHz. The latest is a project from iMovie; the audio rate on that project is 32KHz. Any setting suggestions so that I no longer need to render every imported clip?

I understand. I have the sequence settings at easy setup NTSC. When I bring in CD tracks, they are 44.1kHz and I recognize that they will eventually need to be rendered, but they should at least play and not give me a red bar.

  • All of a sudden audio needs re-rendering when i do ANYTHING at all...

I've had to rerender the audio (from the beeping) after I did something to the audio (i.e. increased the base volume levels), but editing the associated video never made me re-render the audio before. For some reason, now the audio needs rerendered after each edit, or even just when I move through the project. I've been editing for weeks now and I have not seen this before. I'm working from the same batch of .dv video. I don't think I've done anything differently, why is FCE acting differently and thwarting my progress.
    Help.

yes, this was high-8 footage digitized via imovie.
i have it in hour long .dv files.
i'm multiple files into the project, following the same protocol I have been from the beginning, and for some reason, now its needing re-rendered more often than previously.
previously, audio needed re-rendered at least twice, once when i started the new sequence and once after i changed the audio levels.
now it needs re-rendered on a hair trigger.
when i click between tracks or move through the video at all, or breathe, the whole dern audio needs re-rendered again.
what is different? what am i doing different between this sequence and the last?
the last clip was .dv and imported from imovie in the same batch. i don't get it.

  • Apple ProRes 422 HQ needs rendering, but it shouldn't.

Sequence Settings (hereafter called the master sequence) are:
    Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920 X 1080 24p 48khz preset.
    Frame Size: 1920 X 1080 (HDTV 1080i 16:9)
    Pixel Aspect: Square
    Editing Timebase: 23.98fps
    Compressor: Apple ProRes 422 HQ
    Audio: 48khz/16-bit
    Footage is:
    Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
    Frame Size: 1920 X 1080
    Pixel Aspect: Square
    Editing Timebase: 23.98fps
    Compressor: Apple ProRes 422 HQ
    Audio: 48khz/16-bit
    Data Rate: 19.5 MB/sec
I need to put a timecode window burn on the entire movie for a web clip. So I exported a ProRes master as a QuickTime movie using the sequence settings. I then imported that clip and slipped it into a new sequence with identical settings (hereafter called TimeCode burn sequence) and was surprised to see the red render bar across the entire sequence.
As an experiment, I exported a brief (one minute) clip from the same master sequence. I then slipped that clip into my TimeCode burn sequence and it does not need rendering (it shouldn't).
I shouldn't have to render the Master clip first, only to have to re-render it once I but the window burn on. The movie is 30 min. long and the file size is 34GB. Is there a file size limit on ProRes HQ clips that don't need rendering? Why don't the shorter clips from the same sequence need rendering. I don't understand this. Very time consuming.
EDIT: I will probably end up using the Timecode Generator option in Compressor, so please don't suggest this, as I am aware of it. I want to figure out this mystery.

No, you're absolutely correct to use HQ. Just checking.
The Red footage is has 4:4:4 subsampling, so HQ's the way to go.
If you generally use Recompress All Frames on Export then you probably know that it's pointless to render your timeline before an Export, since your Render files won't be accessed. Unless you need to work in that same sequence with the timecode - but, you could just use your exported master for that.
I know the recompress all frames option is probably overkill for a sequence with only one effect, but I'm also thinking about drive space. With those huge Red files, your render files have to be eating up quite a lot of it.
So, I'm suggesting that you don't need to render this sequence before exporting. Just export the unrendered sequence with Recompress All Frames. That saves you the space the render files would be taking up.

  • Sound import to 25 fps sequence is always out of sync and need rendering!!!

Anyone know why an aif sound file from Pro Tools imported to 25 fps sequence is always out of sync and needs rendering? It is like FCP is converting it to another freq. when it is 48k already! I do this all the time with NTSC and 23.98 projects, what is up with the 25 frame seq.??
    Thanks, Mark

Your audio files must be 48,000 kHz AIFF files if you want to use them in Final Cut Pro.
If the originals are coming from CD's they are 44,100 kHz.
Resample in Soundtrack Pro or convert in QuickTime Player.
Your location says you are in LA. Why are you working in in PAL?
I know that things need to be at 48K this would not matter anyway if it was 44.1 FCP would do the conversion and not make it out of sync in an NTSC Timeline, but a PAL timeline FCP screws with the sound file. The files came from pro Tools, the industry standard should mixing.
I put them through Sound Track Pro and it did not help.

  • Sequence matches clip, but still needs rendering.... what am I doing wrong?

Ok, I've spent HOURS tweaking these settings, and I can't figure it out.
I have files from a Flip Cam that I converted using to a .mov file using MPEG Straemclip with the following settings:
    1280x720
    16:9 Anamorphic
    29.97 fps
    Compression: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Field Dominance - None
I'm using FCP 5.1.4, and I'm almost positive that my sequence settings match perfectly. The audio is not an issue - it's working fine. But the video refuses to work properly, and it constantly needs rendering. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Anything new I can check?
Thanks in advance. I'm pulling my hair out.

DV/DVCPRO and 1280x720...those are incompatible. DV is a 720x480 format. 1280x720 is HD, and typically is either DVCPRO HD, HDV or ProRes.
You exported incorrectly from MPEG STREAMCLIP. You need to export out as DVCPRO HD if you are using FCP 5.1. Or Apple Intermediate Codec.

  • HD Clips ALWAYS need rendering when imported??

I am shooting 1280x720 30fps HD on a SANYO Xacti camera. They are shot in mP4 format. I believe I need to convert them PRIOR to importing them into FC Studio. Any suggestions on settings using Compressor?? Or what settings in FCP?? I can preview the clips from the card by selecting the icon and pressing the space bar. Plays beautifully. However, when I import them into FCP I drag them to the timeline and the audio is RED and needs rendering. No biggy. However, when I add camera two footage BOTH audio and video are RED. 5 HOURS!! to render before editing. HELP! I am shooting using H.264 - my FCP settings are Apple ProRes 422 1280x720 30fps 48kHz. and H.264

Your footage is H.264...A non-native editing codec with FCP. This won't work without rendering as your sequence settings differ from your footage. Either convert to ProRes before editing (highly preferred), or make custom settings with H.264 (possible, but not the best way to go).

  • Cinematized QT's always need rendering... why?

I experimented with every video output option Cinematize has and even the lowest resolution QT file with no audio requires rendering in my timeline. I have FCP 6, so it asks if I want to switch the timeline to match the clip, but still RED LINE. I've tried every easy setup! and i've customized my sequence settings to my clips... so WHY?!
Here are my clip settings: 29.92, 640x480, DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, pixel aspect = square. Is it the frame size? is it my powerbook? I have an HDV project that processes HDV footage fine... but not this!
I already trashed my preferences and fiddled with the sequence playback...
any help is much appreciated. Thank you
    -A-

Cinematized QT's always need rendering... why?
Because your clips are not matching your FCP Sequence settings. If your Sequence settings are DV NTSC, then you need 720x480 (rectangular pixels) with the audio being AIFF, 48khz, 16 bit.

  • MUST be pro here that can help! Opens fine in iMOVIE in FCP, audio need ren

    http://www.filmtv.biz/Shot04.dv.zip
    It's a small clip 9mb.
Tried changing sequence properties to no avail.
This opens fine in iMOVIE, plays audio and video fine. Am new to this (from Sony Vegas) and can not figure out how to get this to play in FCP without rendering.
There must be a property setting that I am missing.
    Thanks again!
    Cheers!

Your audio is 32-bit and you are using a 16-bit
    sequence setting.
Might try exporting at 48/16 stereo.
    Whoa!
Everyones moving just a tad bit fast for me! (grin)...
Ok, now I know if I capture, transfer from DV Cam, etc, there will not be problems, but this was a trial editing per se and the files where submitted as is.
My questions really isn't about iMOVIE vs FCP, how silly (grin), but more to why does iMOVIE play everything so seemless whereas FCP needs rendering?
Now, let us say a client gives me 10 clips such as this for a commercial, when you say exporting 48/16 (which I think I changed in the settings (SEQUENCE) it had no effect, what do you mean by exporting?
If you where to get these clips as is, how would you import them into FCP and make them work without rendering? If this can't be done then what would the next (BATCH PROCESSING) steps be?
I still do not understand export at 48/16 reply! As mentioned I did make some changes in the sequence settings but it did not help, plays fine in viewer but not canvas. I know iMOVIE is a consumer product but it does read/playback much easier than FCP. You would think FCP would inherit at least this part of the "smart" technology or at the very least when importing make the changes on the fly?
    Thanks again!
PS. Where did you get the properties info? I opened in QT and did not see anything that mentioned audio settings in "movie info" or "property setting" nor did I see them when I right clicked the clip, it did not show audio info.

  • PE8 - No audio in rendered clip

I'm getting no audio after rendering, but do have sound before rendering. I've checked all the settings I know to check!
The PE8 audio hardware preference is set to 'Premiere Elements WDM Sound'. Is this a device that should show up in Device Manager? If so it isn't there. No problems with sound on any video except for PE8 rendered clips. I'd appreciate some help.

ATI Radeon HD5850, Catalyst 10.2 driver
    ASUS P6T motherboard
    6 GB DDR3
    Core i7 950 (stock clock)
BTW, PE8 bombs from time to time for no apparent reason. I gather from reading other posts that nobody else is having this problem? Ha! Also have Cyberlink PowerDirector but it rarely crashes. Sorry, had to get some gigs in.
    Thanks,
    Justin-H

As far as PowerDirector goes, I have an older version (think it is 10, but cannot recall clearly), and it has actually crashed more than my PrE 4. Now, in all fairness, I use it to handle some really odd CODEC files, and basically convert with it, for editing in PrPro. My observations do not reflect either the newer versions, do not compare with PrE 8, and also include some very difficult footage. Still, it goes down about 1:5 sessions, while PrE 4 has only "hung it up" twice, and at least one was OE on my part, while the other was definitely a resource issue, as I did not utilize my own tips in this ARTICLE.
Just some personal observations and not a controlled test,

  • Rendering - clips need rendering when they shoudn't

I am working on a new sequence on FCE 3.5.1 (HD imported from sony hdr-hc5 - no previous problems). Now whenever I move a clip from one track to another (whether on top of another clip in another track or not) it requires rendering and when I move it back to a track where there are no clips on tracks above or below it it needs rendering (even though all I have done is move it and haven't done anything else to the clip at all). This didn't use to happen and as far as I know I haven't changed any of the settings. It does eventually auto-render but by my reckoning it shouldn't rendering at all just because the clip has been moved. They never used to

    Hi Al
    Aha.
Sequence is 720x576 DV-PAL. Clip is 1440x1080 aple intermed codec.
So, the sequence is wrong. Is there any way I can change the properties of the sequence without starting all over again as I have got some way down the line on the project and would like to keep the progress made to date.
Thanks for the quick response by the way.
