Automatically database creation

Can toplink similarly to creating tables when toplink.ddl-generation=create-tables also create database? Maybe there is a special property for such behavior.

No, TopLink needs you to create the database using whatever mechanism (ui, commandline, etc.) your database vendor provides. The only exception I can think of is Derby which allows you to define in the connection URL that a database should be created if not found. But this isn't a TopLink feature, it's Derby's.

  • Oracle 9i manual database creation on the Red Hat 9 Linux

    I installed Oracle 9I on the Red Hat 9 Linux successfully with automatic database creation.
    I tried to create second database manually and everything seemed to be fine until I issued create database statement. I got the following error:

    Please help me to solve the problem.
    Thank you,

    Ok I am having the same exact problem and I am typing this into the shell before I run the installer.
    export DISPLAY=yourdesktop:0.0
    I thought that would fix the problem but it still hangs and gives the same message as the other guy gets. How can I solve this problem and get the installer running? I would really appreciate any help. This is the message I get:

  • Oracle 9i installation hanging in "Clone Database Creation in Process"

    Hi all,
    I have been struggling in installing the 9i in my laptop.
    Here is my setup,
    OS: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 in VMWare
    Database: Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1.0
    When it automatically comes to "Database Configuration Assistant", there are 4 steps.
    Copying Database files
    Initializing Database
    Creating and starting Oracle Instance
    Completing database creation
    The 1st 3 steps has been completed and the installation just hangs at the last step when the completion rate is 88%.
    Anyone got problem like this ?
    Here are the details I have so far for the DBCA during installation process,
    Listener Control complete.
    Listener start failed. Listener may already be running.
    Listener configuration complete.
    Default local naming configuration complete.
    Oracle Net Services configuration successful. The exit code is 0
    Since I am completely new to installing DB, please help me to get rid of this frustration.
    Thanks !
    Regards,
    Chris

    Hi,
    If you getting a problem with DBCA go for manually process:-
    I had listed steps which I follow
    Step 1: Decide on Your Instance's System Identifier (SID)
    Step 2: Create the Initialization Parameter File
    Note:- Name the copied init.ora file init<SID>.ora because this is the default naming convention that the Oracle server looks for when it tries to start up the instance ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory (exists over the prefered path)
    Edit this file's parameters so that your database and your instance will run effectively on your system.
    DB_NAME Must be set to a text string of eight characters or less. During database creation, the value assigned to DB_NAME is recorded in the database's datafiles, redo log files, and control files. If, when you attempt to start the database instance, the value of DB_NAME as recorded in the initialization parameter file and the database name in the control files are not the same, the database will not start.
    DB_DOMAIN A text string that specifies the network domain where the database is created.
    CONTROL_FILES Is assigned the comma-separated list of control file names to use for the new database. When you execute the CREATE DATABASE statement, the control files listed as values assigned to this parameter are created. If you fail to specify a filename for the CONTROL_FILES parameter, Oracle creates a file with a default operating system dependant filename.
    DB_BLOCK_SIZE Specifies the standard block size of the database. This size is used in the creation of the system tablespace and by default in any other tablespaces created. Take care when determining what this value should be because after the database is created, the value cannot be changed.
    UNDO_MANAGEMENT Determines whether the database starts in automatic undo management mode. A value of AUTO enables automatic undo management; MANUAL enables manual undo management mode. In 9i, AUTO is suggested, but MANUAL is default.
    UNDO_TABLESPACE When the instance starts in automatic undo management mode, it needs to have a tablespace in which to store its undo information. The default is SYS_UNDOTBS and is automatically created if you execute a CREATE DATABASE statement with the UNDO_MANAGEMENT initialization parameter set to AUTO and no UNDO TABLESPACE statement in the CREATE DATABASE statement.
    Step 3: Connect to and Start the Instance
    Connect to the instance as SYSDBA either using operating system authentication or the password file method of authentication and start up the instance using the STARTUP command.
    sqlplus '/ as sysdba'
    If your parameter file is not in the default location or is not named init<SID>.ora, you may need to specify the PFILE clause in the STARTUP command for the instance to start.
    Because you do not yet have a database attached to the instance, you need to start up the instance in NOMOUNT state:
    startup nomount;
    The instance is now started and ready for the CREATE DATABASE command.

  • Can we get database creation script using any packages?

    Hi Friends,
    we will get table creation script using dbms_metadata.get_ddl package. just like that is there any way to get database creation script? i know that we can add some lines to controlfile trace to convert it into database creation script. but i would like to know whether it is possible through packages?
    thanks in advance.

    I think there's no package to use it for getting database creation script. But anyway, you can search it in [Oracle Database PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/toc.htm]

  • PointBase automatic table creation mapping reliability?

    If I specify this in the weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml file for Automatic Table Creation:
    <field-map>
    <cmp-field>ADDRESS</cmp-field>
    <dbms-column>U_ADDRESS</dbms-column>
    <dbms-column-type>VARCHAR(30)</dbms-column-type>

    <cmp-field>addresses</cmp-field>
    <dbms-column>U_ADDRESSES</dbms-column>
    <dbms-column-type>RAW(5000)</dbms-column-type>
    </field-map>
    <create-default-dbms-tables>True</create-default-dbms-tables>
    PointBase creates a table w/ the two columns defined as:
    U_ADDRESS VARCHAR(150)
    U_ADDRESSES BLOB(1000)
    If I specify this:
    <field-map>
    <cmp-field>ADDRESS</cmp-field>
    <dbms-column>U_ADDRESS</dbms-column>
    <dbms-column-type>VARCHAR(30)</dbms-column-type>

    </field-map>
    <create-default-dbms-tables>True</create-default-dbms-tables>
    <database-type>POINTBASE</database-type>
    PointBase creates a table w/ the two columns defined as:
    U_ADDRESS VARCHAR(150)
    U_ADDRESSES BLOB(1)
    What's wrong? And how reliable is the PointBase mapping?

    Hi
    The <dbms-column-type> is not intended for generally specifying
    the desired column type for the cmp-field. It is meant to
    cause the container to generate code to handle the cmp-field
    as a java.sql.Blob in the persistence layer.
    What the default table creation does is to examine the
    java type of the cmp-field and then make its best guess
    at a DBMS column type that will support the cmp-field.
    In the case of POINTBASE, byte[] fields are made into
    BLOB.
    Here's the conversion that the container uses to map
    java types to POINTBASE Column types:
    if(type.isPrimitive()) {
    if(type == Boolean.TYPE) return "BOOLEAN";
    if(type == Byte.TYPE) return "SMALLINT";
    if(type == Character.TYPE) return "CHAR(1)";
    if(type == Double.TYPE) return "DOUBLE PRECISION";
    if(type == Float.TYPE) return "FLOAT";
    if(type == Integer.TYPE) return "INTEGER";
    if(type == Long.TYPE) return "DECIMAL"; // PointBase DECIMAL is DECIMAL(38,0)
    // 10**38 is approx: 2**126
    it's big enough
    if(type == Short.TYPE) return "SMALLINT";
    } else {
    if (type == String.class) return "VARCHAR(150)";
    if (type == BigDecimal.class) return "DECIMAL(38,19)";
    if (type == Boolean.class) return "BOOLEAN";
    if (type == Byte.class) return "SMALLINT";
    if (type == Character.class) return "CHAR(1)";
    if (type == Double.class) return "DOUBLE PRECISION";
    if (type == Float.class) return "FLOAT";
    if (type == Integer.class) return "INTEGER";
    if (type == Long.class) return "DECIMAL";
    if (type == Short.class) return "SMALLINT";
    if (type == java.util.Date.class)return "DATE";
    if (type == java.sql.Date.class) return "DATE";
    if (type == java.sql.Time.class) return "TIME";
    if (type == java.sql.Timestamp.class) return "TIMESTAMP";
    if (type.isArray() &&
    type.getComponentType() == Byte.TYPE) return "BLOB";
    if (!ClassUtils.isValidSQLType(type) &&
    java.io.Serializable.class.isAssignableFrom(type)) return "BLOB";

  • Database creation problems

    Help!! I have installed 8i on RH Linux 6.1 and followed the "Friendly" guide steps, it worked perfectly. However when I try to create a database using the Database assistant, I get an error "Oracle Not Logged on" I've reinstalled twice and still have the same problems - can anyone help?
    Thanks for any suggestions/help!
    null

    This problem doesn't just occur on Linux. I have encountered the same on both Digital Unix and HP/UX. I finally gave up and told it to just create the scripts. Looking at the scripts, there are a number of different problems depending on the items that you choose to install and/or customizations to db setup, such as size and placing of files.
    To find them, I generated the scripts and then looked at the contents and used svrmgrl to individually run commands so that I could see the "real" error message.
    It's been awhile but I think the not logged on was a failure in the initial create database command... Or maybe it was the MAX_ENABLED_ROLES being too small in the default init file to support some of the products... Or the rollback segments being created as private and not being automatically added to the init before the assistant does a shutdown and restart... Or it creating the rollback segment tablespace not the size and parameters that I requested...
    You may guess by now I wasn't too impressed by the dbassist program. All I can say is doesn't anyone believe in testing anymore? I have a hard time believing that anyone at Oracle actually tested running this product and actually using any of it's features.
    This really pissed me off because when I first saw the pretty GUI and nice interface I thought WOW, this is great, finally something to make database creation simpler than running all those commands and scripts.

  • Automate partition creation

    Hi,
    Is there any example out there on how to automate the creation of time based partitions?
    As an example, I would like to create 1 partition for each quarter and when a new quarter start have a new partition automatically added with the same attributes than the previous one.
    I would also have the oldest 4 partitions automatically deleted as soon as the total number of partitions reaches 13.
    Any thoughts or links?
    Thanks,
    Philippe

    Hi Philippe,
    The Project REAL Analysis Services Technical Drilldown discusses one implementation of such automation:
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/realastd.mspx
    >>
    Project REAL: Analysis Services Technical Drilldown
    By Dave Wickert, Microsoft Corporation
    SQL Server Technical Article
    Published: September 2005
    Appendix A: Automating Partition Creation
    The Project REAL design uses partitioning quite heavily. The production system has more than 220 extremely large partitions. The sample data uses over 125 partitions that are only tens of thousands of records per partition. The full production system has 180 to 200 million records per partition. With so many partitions, extensive typing was required to create each partition every time we generated a new schema.
    So, as the saying goes, “When the going gets rough, a programmer writes a program.”
    This appendix documents the BuildASPartition SQL Server 2005 Integration Services package that we created to automate the building of Analysis Services measure group partitions in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services databases. This package synchronizes the relational partition scheme with the Analysis Services partition scheme. It loops through the relational database looking for a weekly fact table partition (by using a table naming convention). If a relational table is found, it looks to see if an Analysis Services measure group partition already exists (using the same naming convention). If not, it constructs and executes a XMLA script that creates it.

  • Automatic PO creation of free text PR

    Hi!
    We have all our PRs in free text since we are not yet using material master. One of our purchase organization will only order from one vendor and they will enter that vendor and price in the PR. Is it possible to create a PO automatically from that PR without a material or source list?
    Sincerely
    Anders

    Hi
    Thank you very much. Is it possible to restrict the automatic creation to a certain purchase organization?
    If I understand you right:
    1) Create PR with item category D Service
    2) Activate automatic PO creation in ML91
    That will create POs for all PRs created as a service?
    Sincerely
    Anders

  • Problem during automatic PO creation

    Hi,
                I have run MRP for a certain material using MD03 .Message shows MRP run successfully.Then I checked the status of this by using transactions MD04 and it shows the PR no for that material.But when I want to create automatic PO through ME59n using that PR no , message shows no suitable PR exist.I have also set the Automatic PO indicator in Material master Purchasing view.
                 What is the reason behimd it.

    Hi,
    For automatic PO creation follow the below points.
    1) Material Master purchasing view tick automatic PO check box
    2) Vendor Master purchasing view tick automatic PO check box.
    3) Maintain Source list for Vendor & Material.
    4) Maintain Purchase Info Record.
    5) Create a Purchase Requisition.
    6) Use T.Code: ME59N & execute for PR for vendor, you will be able to create automatic PO.
    Ensure that Purchase Info Record should be there.
    If you have more than one vendor then fixe only one vendor in source list.
    Did you set source determination during PR creation
    Regards,

  • Error during automatic po creation ME59N

    Dear All,
    Following errors has been shown after automatic po creation by ME59N:-
    Message text Message Class Message Number
    PO could not be created
    PO header data still faulty MEPO 2
    Enter Validity End ME 83
    Enter Latest GR Date ME 83
    Can delivery date be met? ME 40
    Requisition could not be converted
    Please suggest how to solve above .

    Hi
    From the messages it seems that system is expecting a Validity end date at PO header & Latest GR date at item level.
    Do you have these two fields as required in the PO??
    If these are required fields then you need to have process to populate them automatically (Programatically) to resolve the error.
    Thanx

  • SRM Classic - Automatic PO creation in R/3 only for PReqs based on catalogs

    Dear Experts,
    in SRM 7.0 Classic Scenario, i am facing the following question w.r.t. automatic PO creation on the R/3 side:
    Is it possible to have automatic PO creation in R/3 only for those purchase requisition items, that are based on shopping cart items from a third party punch out catalog?
    The idea is, that the requisitioner on the SRM EBP side shops in a catalog. Once the the SC is approved and the purchase requisition is created in the R/3 system, automatically a PO should be created based on that PReq. This would save the time for the buyer, who do not need to pay attention to this document, because the purchase from the catalog guarantees the buyer, that the already pre-agreed conditions are getting applied.
    But PReqs that are based on Free Text shopping cart EBP items must not be taken into account for the automatic PO creation.
    Is there a way to distinguish between the catalo-based and the non-catalog based PReq positions?
    Thank you.

    Hello Ashutosh,
    thank you very much for that idea!
    I would have the following question w.r.t. to such configuration:
    If i configure that the PO creation for complete SC should happen for a certain purchasing group, would it be somehow possible to arrange that when a Catalog item is put into the shopping cart, that only that certain purchasing group gets defaultet? (the idea behind this is, to leave the free text shopping carts to already known purchasing groups and to keep the purchase requisition as the backend object for this configuration. And additionally to create new purchasing groups, that should be linked to the catalog purchases and to POs as the backend objects).
    Thanks again for the help!

    Hello,
      to check the errors issued I suggest to try to create the PO converting the PR from transaction ME21N.
    I guess that some fields, mandatory for the PO creation, were not filled in the Purchase Request and could not be determined in any different way. If you can't maintain them on the PR you should set them as optional, if possible, in the customizing for Screen lay-out of transaction ME59N, under "Materials Management --> Purchasing --> Purchase Order --> Define Screen Layout at Document Level".
    Hope to be useful.
    Best regards,
