BC data source and functional module

Hi Gurus
I know that we can extract data via functional module in case of generic extractor but when we use business content data source ( for ex.0MAT_PLANT_ATTR) is it possible to use functional module to extract the data?
How can we find the functional module? my requirement is I need to enhance this data source with few more attributes.
Pl help. also advise where I need to write the code?

You can see if it FM based or not, in RSA2, or, in table ROOSOURCE (on the source system).
In general, it is not possible/advisable to change the BC extractor FMs.
Right way to go about is to use enhancements. For this case 0MAT_PLANT_ATTR, if the other attributes are coming from same material tables, you may be able to get those by enhancing the extract structure.
If not, you can enhance the extract structure, and write the code in the user-exit provided for extending master data extraction (function EXIT_SAPLRSAP_002 - check its documentation in SE37).

    the datasource frame work starts the function module several times.
    1. the initialization
    2. the serval times, until you "raise no_more_data".
    check you coding: have you refreshed necessary internal tables.

    HI rkiranbi,
    1. FIrst you excute function module according to your paramers, you will get some records. then goto tcode RSA3 --> excute
    Provide your Data source name and under setting we have options like Data records/calls, Display extractor calls and selections --> fields .
    in that options you have to increase the values. and then you have to pass paramers in RSA3 according to your function module
    selections in SE37. Now you will get equal values in both functin module selection and RSA3 Selection. if it fail means  you need to
    check coding logic in function module. 
    2. if your  are getting wrong values in BI System then check with
                  1. compare with PSA data and data target data (here you need to check with characterstic as well as keyfigures)
                  if you find any mistake you need change the coding in function module according to client requirement.
                  2. compare data with RSA3 and bi report data or data target data.
                                 check it properly above steps, you will get solution.

  • Generic Data source on Function module

    Hi All,
    We are working on generic data source based on a function module for the first time and we do not know how to start with.
    Our requirement is to fetch mode of communication field from SRM. We have identified a function module in SRM which does this job. But when we try to create a generic data source on this function module it is throwing an error.
    Are the import parameters for a general function module and function module for a BI generic data source different?
    If so could someone please guide us in creating the function module so that we can create a generic data source on top of it.
    The function module should serve the same purpose as the function module BAPI_BUPA_ADDRESS_GETDETAIL.

    My suggestion would be creating Z-program to store the values in a custom table and use this for extraction.
    Further if still want to use the FM itself, post the error details you are getting.. or try to analyse the FM and find the base table so that you can directly use in extraction.

    Step1-Create a table structure which you need to create same as the fields you require in you data source.
    Step 2-create a custom abap program and inside that call the Client abap program with the selections as required and save the result data in some table
    Step 3-create infoset query.In the infoset query give your table structure name and  program name which you developed.
    Step4-create data source on top of that query

    I think check FM's contain these value in any paramters.
    Otherwise check CDHDR/CDPOS with appropriate OBJECT number etc.

  • Delta Problem while extracting the data by using function module

    Hi Experts,
    I have extracted the data by using Function module, for delta loads I have given Calday and additive delta in Generic delta settings, in BW side I have initialized the data after that I have given delta update option in infopackage and I made process chain also, every day process chain is running successfully but it is showing zero records, but there is a data in Data source (RSA3), means delta is not working.
    What is the problem,
    Is there any another settings for delta loads,
    Please help me to do this,

    Try this delta type :NEW STATUS FOR CHANGED RECORDS.

    1. New status for changed Records.
    2. Additive delta.
    New status for changed records means
    New Order
    order no quantity
    1000 10
    order changed to quntity 8. then 2 records will posted 2 BW in first case.
    1000 -10
    1000 8
    if you come to Additve delta.
    for the same case it will send the same record as
    1000 10
    changed records
    1000 -2
    this is the difference. New status with changed records should be used only in association with ODS not cube becoz we don't have overwrite option.
    Additive delta we can use for ODS and Cubes with update mode Addition.

    BAPI: Standard Interface in the R/3 system that allows the system to communicate with components of other business suites.
    FM: These are the procedures that are defined in the Function Groups and can be called from any ABAP Program. FM allow you to encapsulate and reuse global functions int he R/3 system.
    The main basic difference between BAPI and FM are
    1) All BAPIs are FM but not all FMs are BAPIs
    2) BAPIs are remote enabled
    3) BAPIs interface will not have a changing and exceptions. They can not be used to have use dialog.
    Interface programs can post data to SAP either through a BDC, BAPI, IDOC etc. It depends on the type of requirement.

    I see we are calling both as the same way we call function modules. May be for bapis, we need to be careful in declaring and passing those exact structures. Can you please make it clear reg. the differences between them?

    Hi,
    - Go to SE37 and execute your FM
    - Enter the data you want to pass to FM
    - Hit 'Save' button. Enter the meaningful name for your test scenario and save. That's it you have saved the test data.
    You can also enter some other test data and save that also. In short, you can save multiple test scenario. Also, you can give multiple test scenario a same name and they do not overwrite each other ( but normally you give different name to differentiate them)
    Next time you come to execute the FM again, hit the "test data" button and it will show you all the test scenario you have stored before. Select the one you want to use and it will load the data in FM parameters.

    Function Group creation -
           A function group is a program that contains function modules. With each R/3 system, SAP supplies more than 5,000 pre-existing function groups.
         In total, they contain more than 30,000 function modules. If the functionality you require is not already covered by these SAP-supplied function modules, you can also create your own function groups and function modules.
          We can put all the relevant function modules under one function group and all the global variables can be declared in this FG.
    FG Creation:
    1)     Function group can be created in SE80. There choose the 'Function Group' from the list of objects.
    2)    Then give a name for ur function group (starts with Y or Z) and press ENTER.
    3)   The click 'YES' in the create object dialog box and give a short desc. for this FG and save.
    Function Module:
                 A function module is the last of the four main ABAP/4 modularization units. It is very similar to an external subroutine in these ways:
    Both exist within an external program.
    Both enable parameters to be passed and returned.
    Parameters can be passed by value, by value and result, or by reference.
    The major differences between function modules and external subroutines are the following:
    Function modules have a special screen used for defining parameters-parameters are not defined via ABAP/4 statements.
    tables work areas are not shared between the function module and the calling program.
    Different syntax is used to call a function module than to call a subroutine.
    Leaving a function module is accomplished via the raise statement instead of check, exit, or stop.
    A function module name has a practical minimum length of three characters and a maximum length of 30 characters. Customer function modules must begin with Y_ or Z_. The name of each function module is unique within the entire R/3 system.
    Defining Data within a Function Module
    Data definitions within function modules are similar to those of subroutines.
    Within a function module, use the data statement to define local variables that are reinitialized each time the function module is called. Use the statics statement to define local variables that are allocated the first time the function module is called. The value of a static variable is remembered between calls.
    Define parameters within the function module interface to create local definitions of variables that are passed into the function module and returned from it (see the next section).
    You cannot use the local statement within a function module. Instead, globalized interface parameters serve the same purpose. See the following section on defining global data to learn about local and global interface parameters.
    Defining the Function Module Interface
    To pass parameters to a function module, you must define a function module interface. The function module interface is the description of the parameters that are passed to and received from the function module. It is also simply known as the interface. In the remainder of this chapter, I will refer to the function module interface simply as the interface.
    To define parameters, you must go to one of two parameter definition screens:
    1) Import/Export Parameter Interface
    2) Table Parameters/Exceptions Interface
    Then in the FM interface screen, give the following
    1) Import parameters
    2) Export parameters
    3) Changing parameters
    Then give
    1) Define internal table parameters
    2) Document exceptions
    You enter the name of the parameter in the first column and the attributes of the parameter in the remaining columns. Enter one parameter per row.
    Import parameters are variables or field strings that contain values passed into the function module from the calling program. These values originate outside of the function module and they are imported into it.
    Export parameters are variables or field strings that contain values returned from the function module. These values originate within the function module and they are exported out of it.
    Changing parameters are variables or field strings that contain values that are passed into the function module, changed by the code within the function module, and then returned. These values originate outside the function module. They are passed into it, changed, and passed back.
    Table parameters are internal tables that are passed to the function module, changed within it, and returned. The internal tables must be defined in the calling program.
    An exception is a name for an error that occurs within a function module. Exceptions are described in detail in the following section.
    Syntax for the call function Statement
    The following is the syntax for the call function statement.

    F is the function module name.

    n is any integer literal; n cannot be a variable.
    x1 is an exception name raised within the function module.
    The following points apply:
    All additions are optional.
    call function is a single statement. Do not place periods or commas after parameters or exception names.
    The function module name must be coded in uppercase. If it is coded in lowercase, the function will not be found and a short dump will result.
    Use the call function statement to transfer control to a function module and specify parameters. Figure 19.9 illustrates how parameters are passed to and received from the function module.

    You can proceed with create function module using SE37, thereu2019s sample in system RSAX_BIW_GET_DATA_SIMPLE,
    You need to know the logic how to populate the structure,
    after that RSO2, create datasource specify extract structure and
    function module,
    activate and replicate to bw.

  • OWB 10g -- Can't Create Database Links for Data Source and Target

    We installed OWB 10g server components on a Unix box running Oracle 10g (R2) database. The Designer Repository is in one instance. The Runtime Repository and the Target are in another instance. The OWB client component was installed on Windows XP. We create a data source module and a target module in OWB. The data source is on another Unix box running Oracle 9i (R2) database. We try to create database links for data source module and target module, respective. But when we created and tested the DB links, the DB links were failed.
    For the database link of data source, we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.
    SQL Exception
    Repository Error:SQL Exception..
    Class Name: CacheMediator.
    Method Name: getDDEntryFromDB.
    Repository Error Message: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
    For the database link of target , we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.
    API2215: Cannot create database link. Please contact Oracle Support with the stack trace and the details on how to reproduce it.
    Repository Error:SQL Exception..
    Class Name: oracle.wh.ui.integrator.common.RepositoryUtils.
    Method Name: createDBLink(String, String, String, String).
    Method Name: -1.
    Repository Error Message: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
    However, we could connect to the two databases (data source and target) using the OWB’s utility SQL Plus.
    Please help us to solve this problem. Thank you.

    As I said prior the database link creation should work from within the OWB client (also in 10).
    Regarding your issue when deploying, have you registered your target locations in the deployment manager and did you first deployed your target location's connector which points out to your source?
    I myself had some problems with database link creations in the past and I can't remember exactly what they were but it had something to do with
    - the use of abnormal characters in the database link name
    - long domain name used in as names.default_domain in my sqlnet.ora file
    What you can do is check the actual script created when deploying the database link so see if there's something strange and check if executing the created script manually works or not.

    once u generate datasource from test cube it acts as an data source for further upload.
    now u choose update target3.x in additional functions in context menu of the test cube.
    u will get an infopackage pop up with data target to the cube ZCO_1,processing to datatarget only.
    selection criterion can bve selected from the first tab.
    under schedule tab you can start extraction.

    Hi Rajesh,
    You use create subroutines within your programs for those block of codes which are used often within the scope of the development. Function modules are like global subroutines , hence any number programs which might want to use the functionality within the function module can do so.
    Creating includes is a good programming prctise, e.g. one for data declerations , one for subroutines, so that it makes the code more reader friendly and also helps in modularizing the program. Also once you put a subroutine in an include, you can use the same subroutine in other programs by referring to the include with the INCLUDE statement in your other programs.
    Hence basically they are used for :
    1. Reusability
    2. Modularization of code (make it more readable)
